Abstract:

Abstract:
I approach the question of human fascination for, and the inspiration of, astronomical phenomena, based in the concept of elementary experience developed in the work of Luigi Giussani. I follow Giussani’s ideas in some detail and argue that man’s attraction for the world around him is rooted in the most fundamental experience of wonder before the ‘otherliness’ of reality. In the process of discovery and confrontation with something that is ‘other’, a dynamic is set out in which man’s reason is provoked and inspired to question and to create. To emphasize man’s personal experience of wonder before the skies and its cultural impact, the discussion is guided by several extracts from the literature and arts.

Abstract:
Currently, value-based education occupies a leading position within the contemporary academic discourse on education. Catholic education holds a decent share in this overall discussion. This is partly due to the growing number of Catholics in Africa and Asia as well as globalization and secularization processes. Considering this fact, the philosophical underpinnings of Catholic education, its identity issues, and future perspectives are gaining more and more attention from the academic audience worldwide. In this study, an attempt was made to examine and compare two different concepts of Catholic education, one of Italian Catholic priest Fr. Luigi Giussani and that of the Jesuits. The research was aimed at analyzing and evaluating the similarities and differences of these concepts, revealing their interrelation. The analysis showed that these educational concepts have only slightly different goals and use different wording to define their aims. This situation is preconditioned by different historical-cultural contexts and experiences. In conclusion, Jesuit education tends to stress academic achievements and a value-based education approach, while Giussani’s concept emphasizes an interest in showing the importance and meaning of human reality and value education through its verification according to real-life needs. This allows to categorize Jesuit education as more traditionally-Catholic oriented while viewing Giussani’s concept as more suitable for Western secularized societies, which are not or less familiar with such notions as fate, religion, Christianity, God, etc. Despite the fact that these concepts employ different educational methods and approaches and have only slightly different goals, their interrelationship can be described as complementary rather than differentiated or competing.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The opposition of the categories of institutional and charismatic leadership has become a common topic of discussion in the social science of the XX century. However, this opposition has been discussed not only in sociology and political science, but also in theology and church law. This article is devoted to the charismatic-institutional concept of Eugenio Corecco (1931-1995), a Swiss Catholic canonist, Bishop of Lugano, a participant of the legal reform process in Catholic church law in the second half of the XX century. His concept was influenced by the legal theory of the German Catholic canonist Klaus Mersdorf, the ecclesiology of the Second Vatican Council, the ideas about the charisma of the founder of the Communione e Liberazione (Communion and Liberation) movement Luigi Giussani and, finally, the reform of the 1983 Code of Canon Law. The first part of the article discuss how Corecco approaches the problem of church institutions in the modern era, critically starting from the legacy of the Church Public Law school of the XIX - early XX centuries. The second part is devoted to solving the institution-charisma problem in Corecco’s theology of law. It is shown how from the ideas of the Munich school, founded by Mörsdorf, about the Word and the Sacrament as the pillars of church legal order, the Swiss canonist comes to the idea of charisma as an essential element of church order. Referring to the canonical theory of the Protestant lawer Rudolf Sohm about the antagonism of law and the spiritual nature of the Church, Corecco suggests solving this dilemma through the term communio, which is key for the ecclesiology of the Second Vatican Council. He emphasizes that law serves church communion, therefore, along with the liturgical heritage, the charismatic experience of the past and present should be reflected in the canons of church law. In the third part, the problem of charisma is clarified in connection with a priest status and preaching in modern and postmodern society. According to Corecco, the necessary response to the crisis of church discipline in the Catholic Church of the 1960s and 1970s could be found in the attempts of canonists to rethink the relations of the episcopate, clergy and laity in the Church. In this context, he particularly emphasizes the importance of the including of charismatic element in the reformed post-conciliar Catholic theology and church law.

Abstract:
In his Apostolic Letter Novo Millenio Ineunte, Pope John Paul II wrote that the Church must become the ‘home and school of communion’ if is to ‘be faithful to God’s plan and respond to the world’s deepest yearnings’. For this to take place, he indicated that even prior to making practical plans that ‘we need to promote a spirituality of communion’, a spirituality which ‘indicates above all the heart’s contemplation of the mystery of the Trinity dwelling in us, and whose light we must also be able to see shining on the face of the brothers and sisters around us’ (43). This paper will examine the spirituality of communion as it is proposed in the teachings of two prominent leaders within the new ecclesial movements within the Catholic Church in the 20th century, Chiara Lubich (1920–2008) and Fr Luigi Giussani (1922–2005).
