Full textThe main object of our research is the poetic work of Giuseppe Conte. His entire poetic production, although differentiated, reveals a continuity in stylistic research and philosophy of existence. Conte's poetry collections are an attempt to express in artistic form his personal vision of literature, the world, society, man and different cultures. Our study explores a poetics that expresses Conte's relationship with poets and writers of the past and present. For Conte, poetry is necessary and fundamental to contemporary civilisation, it is an essential nourishment of the human imagination and soul, it must be understood as fundamental to the aesthetic, moral and economic rebirth of the world. In our study, we first analyse Conte's distance from the neo-avant-garde : he has always considered himself an «outsider» in relation to the artistic and literary movements of the 20th and 21st centuries. His conception of myth and nature as an antidote to the materialism of Western society led him to be one of the founders of «Mythomodernism». We ask why the poet was interested in lost non-European civilizations and examine his reinterpretation of classical myths. We study the role that Conte attributes to poetry in bringing together Western and Eastern cultures ; we also analyse the influence of Ligurian «culture» and landscape on Conte. Finally, we focus on the values of language, in particular the expressive value of metaphor (on which Conte wrote fundamental essays), on poetic form and the analysis of language. The techniques used by Conte allow poetry to become the bearer of a new energy and a renewed work of civilisation
Coduti, C. Leonard. "Giuseppe Verdi| The Paris Opera commissions." Thesis, California State University, Long Beach, 2013. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=1523336.
Full textThis thesis examines the relationship between Giuseppe Verdi and the Paris Opera and the stage works that Verdi composed or reworked as a result of this business venture. Between 1847 and 1867, Verdi accepted four formal commissions for Paris: Jerusalem (1847), Les vêpres siciliennes (1855), Le trouvère (1857) and Don Carlos (1867). After a brief introduction discussing Verdi's career before Paris, each commission is discussed in detail from the genesis of the work through its premiere, and the eventual outcome of each opera. This study also evaluates the benefit of this collaboration to Verdi's international career given the requirements and time expended to produce each commission. It explores Verdi's adaptation to cultural differences, his handling of foreign business affairs, and his personal feelings toward French society. Much of the source material is drawn from Verdi's own writings and correspondence, as well as the writings of several Verdi scholars.
Păcurar-Leroux, Simona. "Giuseppe Berto et l'écriture de soi." Paris 3, 2003. http://www.theses.fr/2003PA030120.
Full textAfter the Second World War, the commitment of Italian authors to the public good put at a disadvantage autobiography and its private nature. It explains why the writer Giuseppe Berto had to develop various ways of expressing himself (diary, autobiographical novel. . . ) in order to fulfil his own writing needs as well as audience expectations. The text analysis of Il male oscuro as an analytical account is coupled with the study of the links between Berto and psychoanalysis (his theorapeutical process, his theoretical readings on the subject) and the situation of Il male oscuro among works influenced by psychoanalysis, from Svevo to Camon. With La cosa buffa, Berto found other new ways of the self-reflexive writing (narrative voice, reading convention, titles' fonctions). The diachronic analysis of the movement of the writing in the text and the study of documents with respect to the novel illustrate the self-reflexive writing, its genesis and its aims. The way Berto went from a first period of "collective" writing, linked to realism but rich of personal elements, to a writing he calls altruistic or, at least, humanistic, leads to show the whole range of Berto's writing and his originality in Italian literature

The genovese lawyer's action is partly largely apened on the world and partly clandestine in the sphere of secret societies. His friends all over europe helped him and one of them, pierre leroux, managed to win his admiration since mazzini vas a humanitarian until 1850. Yet, humanitarianism did not rank first among the objectives of the leader of the young italy movement. Once he had suffered the humiliating failure of the republic, the former member of the triumvirate considering that humanitarianism was not endowed with the political clout that he neededfounded his new system : mazzinian nationalism, it is a state religion with a leader that is organized as a party. Full textThis research work is an inquiry about the relationship between Giuseppe Ungaretti and Anglo-Saxon world, a relationship partially unexplored by literary criticism till now. A particular interest is given to Ungaretti's translation of English poems. First of all there's a presentation of the main reasons that led the Italian poet to take an interest in Anglo-Saxon culture. The core of the thesis is represented by the analysis of Ungaretti's versions of 40 Sonnets by Shakespeare and of many poems by Blake, collected in Visioni; then follows a study, even if less important, of the translations from other two Anglophone poets, Joyce and Pound. This enquiry shows an intrinsic dependence between English poets, above all Shakespeare and Blake, and Ungaretti; this dependence is structured through thematic affinities, but it's present, also, at a textual and lexical level.

Full textIn the Garibaldi commemorative literature and art, from Italy's Unity to fascism, the story relating to the RedShirts' revolution reflects the existence of a modern political myth. That is to say a cosmogonical myth which attempted to ritually transmit a new vision of the world, and of which the intellectual middle-class preached. In whatever conceptions it appeared, the myth related a violent end of one world era followed by a new genesis, by a total new start thanks to a new messiah : Giuseppe Garibaldi. It explained with the passing Italian generations how, from a collective sacrifice, Italy and its line of descendants have begun to exist. Garibaldi, glorified as a secular father creator, reigned in all these conceptions so as to justify the political Unity and the liberal power which existed since 1860, and so as to stimulate or intensify Italian patriotic feelings. However, beyond its etiological function, this cosmogonical myth, which was raised to the rank of secular belief, took on another paradigmatic function. In the rituals, it peacefully taught to Italians the sacred code of social behaviour, asking them to abide by noble, civic and human virtues of Garibaldi. But, when the control of the secular religion fell into the hands of preachers more belligerent than pedagogic, the myth urged the Italians to copy the heroic, patriotic and warlike virtues of the father of their fatherland. The myth crystallized like that their dream of a new start obtainable by violence

Full textThe thesis makes a proposal for a critical edition of Allegria of Giuseppe Ungaretti according to different criteria than those that have guided the preparation of the first. It receives the criterion of “last will of the author” as a solution able to place in perspective the processing procedure, that author's intention was to faithfully reflect «progress as a man». It is also felt that this option allows to identify more easily the parable of corrections, which lasted about thirty years but driven by a coherent plan, and at the same time to isolate the most historically characterized. This edition, starting on the willingness to reconsider all the evidence, including re-emerged in recent times, places for the first time in linking with each of the existing historical sources, in order to provide the most complete picture possible of the history of opera.

Full textThis research focuses on the Sicilian police during the Garibaldian dictatorship of 1860 and analyses how the “red shirts” ruled the island. The goal of this work is to retrace continuities and discontinuities of local control, public order and police service during the construction of the modern Italian state. The new Sicilian revolution brought about the collapse of the Bourbon regime in Sicily and the beginning of a deep social and political crisis all over the country. Therefore, the main goal of the local administration was to guarantee public order and respect for the law. In order to gain the support of local elites, the administration had to achieve a new social and political balance based on a national outlook. New practical instruments to rule the country were developed alongside existing military ones. This thesis provides a different interpretation of the history of the Garibaldian dictatorship through the “police prism”, in an effort to understand the complexity of the Sicilian context. In the end, this work underpins new elements that are useful to grasp the key moment of the Italian Unification and suggests a different interpretation of this phenomenon compared to the traditional analysis of the subject
