Abstract:
In sixteenth-century Germany, a particular financial operation called widerkaufflicher Zins or five percent contract sparked massive legal and theological controversies. This contract produced effects like a loan and therefore countered the interest-taking prohibition. Martin Luther (1483-1546), Philipp Melanchthon (1497-1560), Johannes Brenz (1499-1570), Johannes Aepinus (1499-1553), Urbanus Rhegius (1489-1541), Martin Chemnitz (1522-1586), Aegidius Hunnius (1550-1603), and Johann Gerhard (1582-1637) addressed this issue. They ended up reformulating the prohibition on interest and mapping out a set of rules for the right use of this contract. This article will survey their opinions paying attention to the points where their teachings resembled the Catholics or where they took a different path.

Abstract:
International tourism is one of the most important sectors of the open economy. The aim of this paper is to investigate the effects that income as gross domestic product, tourism price as the real exchange rate, and travel cost as the price of Brent crude oil have on inbound tourism demand (tourist arrivals) from Poland, Slovakia, Germany, and Austria in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic over the period 2002:M1–2018:M5. The number of Polish, German, Slovak and Austrian tourists accommodated in collective accommodation establishments within the South Moravian Region as a dependent variable are considered. To achieve this aim, cointegration analysis under the VECM approach is applied. The results show that Slovak, Polish, Austrian and German tourists respond positively to their income changes. Austrian and Slovak tourists respond negatively to changes in tourism prices in the Czech Republic. Tourists from Germany and Poland do not respond to changes in the Czech price level since their elasticity coefficients are non‑significant. German, Austrian and Slovak tourists respond negatively to transportation cost changes. Polish tourists do not respond to transport cost changes since their elasticity coefficient is non‑significant.

Abstract:
Abstract In 1995 Royal Dutch/Shell-one of the world’s three largest companies-faced two major crises. The first involved the proposed maritime sinking of an aging offshore drilling platform-the Brent Spar. Careful research conducted by Shell had supported sinking as the least environmentally damaging alternative for disposal of the rig. Nonetheless, Shell became the target of a Greenpeace ‘action’ that portrayed Shell as a greedy and irresponsible company whose support for sinking was motivated by purely economic reasoning-sinking happened to be the low cost alternative. Physical boarding of the inoperative Brent Spar by Greenpeace militants drew worldwide media coverage that sullied the Shell image, provoked massive boycotts of Shell stations in Germany, and ultimately forced the publicly humiliated company to back down in June 1995.

Abstract:
In 1563, Wier published his De praestigiis daemonum. The premises and evolution of this work is analysed in this chapter, from Wier’s choice to publish in Basel to the various editions that followed, which contained significant revisions. For the first time, providing explanations based on a variety of aspects, Wier defined actions that were considered to be witchcraft as demonic tricks, and not as reality. In this early phase, he debated on what punishment should be imposed on witches with the prominent theologian Johann Brenz. The French and German translations of his work attest to the positive reception Wier’s thought received.

Abstract:
The Eucharistic controversy entered a new phase at the beginning of 1526 with the publication of several Latin pamphlets attacking Oecolampadius’s position. The most important of these were by Johannes Brenz and Theobald Billican. In his responses to these pamphlets, Oecolampadius developed a number of arguments against Christ’s bodily presence that were shaped by both Aristotelian philosophy and Erasmian hermeneutics and exegesis. He also addressed broader questions concerning the purpose and value of the sacraments. Ludwig Hätzer translated Oecolampadius’s treatises into German, and by the fall of 1526 the debate had shifted to the vernacular. In the process, it became more polemical and the arguments against the sacramentarians were simplified to make them easier for the less literate to understand. Oecolampadius was not merely Ulrich Zwingli’s follower but was instead a major contributor to the debate in his own right.

Abstract:
This chapter talks about Barry Goldwater, who regarded William E. Miller's church membership as an asset rather than a liability when he chose him as his running mate in the 1964 presidential election. It describes Miller as the grandson of German American immigrants and reared in the Roman Catholic Church. It also covers Conscience of a Conservative as the ghostwritten product of L. Brent Bozell, which identified Goldwater with the conservative movement and challenged the GOP's East Coast establishment. The chapter notes how Bozell grew up in Nebraska as nominal Protestant then converted to Roman Catholicism before enrolling at Yale University. It discusses how local circumstances, such as national origin and personal convictions, did more to color perceptions of politics than the church's social teaching.

Abstract:
The nuclear power plant Wu¨rgassen in Germany entered into decommissioning in 1995. The project has currently advanced to the clearance of the buildings. Clearance of buildings has commenced in 2007 with establishing the clearance procedure in pilot rooms. It has entered the “productive” phase in 2010 and will last until about 2014. In 2007, Brenk Systemplanung has been commissioned by E.ON / NPP Wu¨rgassen to perform clearance of the pilot rooms in the turbine building. It has been one of the goals of this work to establish an innovative clearance procedure which would not rely on 100% surface measurements but which should be based on the use of in situ gamma spectrometry and the application of approaches to minimise the number of clearance measurements. In 2010 and 2011 Brenk Systemplanung has been commissioned by E.ON / NPP Wu¨rgassen to perform clearance of rooms with partly considerably higher contamination levels in other buildings. Central points of the concept for clearance of buildings which is presented in this paper were the establishment of averaging areas of up to 10 m2, which is an ideal size for the use of in situ gamma spectrometry, and the application of statistical methods, which allow an efficient performance of the clearance measurements. As a first step the measurement instrumentation necessary for the performance of clearance measurements had to be qualified. The innovative concept was first tested and implemented in the pilot rooms and has now been used also in various other parts of the NPP Wu¨rgassen. The procedure which has been established by Brenk Systemplanung for NPP Wu¨rgassen allows rapid measurements making best use of the averaging area and measurement area of collimated in situ gamma spectrometry and minimising the number of single measurements in comparison to other clearance procedures for nuclear installations of similar size. The paper highlights the relevant approaches and the conceptual differences and innovations.

Abstract:
Clearance of buildings of nuclear installations in Germany has to comply with general requirements laid down in Section 29 of the German Radiation Protection Ordinance (RPO; Strahlenschutzverordnung), clearance levels as stipulated in Table 1 of Annex III RPO and technical guidance given in the technical standard DIN 25457. Clearance procedures are usually proposed by the licensee and are made part of a decommissioning licence after appropriate review by the authorities. The clearance procedures consist of a radiological characterisation of the various parts of the buildings, a decontamination step if necessary, followed by measurements for checking the success of decontamination, and the actual decision measurements for demonstrating compliance with clearance levels. These three steps rely on various measurement methods, selected depending on the relevant radionuclides to be measured, like sampling with subsequent gamma spectrometry (and if necessary separate evaluation of beta and alpha emitting nuclides), measurements with surface contamination monitory and in situ gamma spectrometry. For a nuclear power plant, the number of samples taken during this procedure can easily reach a few 10,000, while the number of single measurements can reach several 100,000 single surface measurements and several 10,000 measurements with in situ gamma spectrometry. This large number of data together with the correct interpretation according to the valid nuclide vector, the penetration depth of the contamination, the correction for radioactive decay etc have to be managed, which is a error-prone process if carried out manually or with insufficient support by customised software. For this reason, a versatile software tool has been developed by Brenk Systemplanung GmbH that supports the operator in all aspects of clearance of buildings, based on the extensive experience with various clearance procedures in nuclear power plants that Brenk Systemplanung has carried out in the past. Many steps of the data evaluation and report generation during the clearance process outlined above can now be carried out automatically. This includes the time-consuming steps of: • support during the acquisition of the geometry data for a room, • generation of the lists for sampling and measurements, • automatic acquisition of the measurement and sampling results from the instruments, • evaluation of compliance with clearance levels, both for measurements on the entire surface and for statistically distributed measurements or samples, • generation of the documentation on clearance, • storage of all data, generation of nuclide vectors, correction for radioactive decay, connection with photo, CAD drawings etc.
