AbstractComparison of the infrared spectra of georgeite and a phase which can be reproducibily synthesised in the laboratory shows that the mineral is an amorphous analogue of malachite, Cu2CO3(OH)2. Synthetic studies also explain the chemical conditions under which georgeite may form, as well as those which can cause it to react to either malachite or chalconatronite. Parallels may be drawn between the laboratory observations and known mineral associations of georgeite.

Abstract:
Two species of freshwater turtle coexist in the Bellinger River: Elseya georgesi is common but limited to the Bellinger River, whereas Emydura macquarii is widespread but rare in the Bellinger River. The Bellinger River population of E. macquarii has been proposed as a distinct subspecies, so it may be endangered. Survivorship, fecundity, growth, size and age were determined for El. georgesi and the finite rate of increase (λ) was estimated by a life-table analysis using mark–recapture data from surveys between 1988 and 2004. These parameters were compared with those of well studied populations of E. macquarii to assess whether modelling the demographic parameters of El. georgesi could serve as a surrogate for estimating the influences of these demographic parameters on λ in the Bellinger River population of E. macquarii. We estimated that ~4500 El. georgesi inhabit the study area and, despite a size distribution strongly biased towards large individuals, the population is increasing (λ = 1.15) in the best-case scenario, or slightly decreasing (λ = 0.96) in the worst-case scenario. Comparing El. georgesi with E. macquarii from the Bellinger River and elsewhere suggests that E. macquarii grows faster, attains greater maximum size, has a greater clutch size and a higher fecundity than El. georgesi. Hence, El. georgesi does not serve as a good surrogate to determine demographic influences on λ in E. macquarii.

Abstract:
Abies georgei var. smithii (Abies George I varsmithorr. II (Viguie et Gaussen) Cheng et l.) belongs to Abies of Pinaceae, which is distributed in the southeast of Tibet, southwest of Sichuan and northwest of Yunnan. In this study, Abies georgei var. smithii in Sejila Mountain of southeastern Tibet was studied, the contents of Malondialdehyde (MDA), proline (pro), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), soluble sugar and chlorophyll as well as the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in the leaves, twigs, tree stems and roots of Abies georgei var. smithii were measured at different altitudes in the growing and non-growing seasons, single factor analysis of variance and multiple comparison were used to process the data. The results showed that the contents of Malondialdehyde (MDA), proline (pro) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in the roots of Abies georgei var. smithii were significantly higher than those of other tissues in both growing and non-growing seasons, the content of chlorophyll in the leaves increased at first and then decreased with the elevation gradient, on the contrary, the ratio of chlorophyll a/b (CHLA/CHLB) increased with the elevation gradient. The activities of Peroxidase (POD) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were the lowest. When the altitude was more than 4300m, the activities of POD and SOD decreased. The results showed that the physiological resistance of Abies georgei var. smithii decreased when the elevation was over 3900m, which was not beneficial to the growth and development of Abies georgei var. smithii, therefore, the distribution of Abies georgei var. smithii along the higher elevation gradient was limited by the unfavorable environmental factors at high altitude.

Abstract:
SUMMARYIn the blood of a Cercocebus albigena and of a C. galeritus agilis monkey, the infection with Plasmodium gonderi was found to follow its well-known chronic course; P. georgesi seemed to occur as a relapsing type of malaria parasite; P. petersi was found for only a few days and at a low level in C. albigena (end of an attack?). As shown by using polarized light, the pigment granules appeared mostly as fine dots in P. georgesi, short rods in P. gonderi and long needles in P. petersi. The three species can be distinguished by the morphological appearance of the nucleus of the young trophozoites, and also by the measurement of its surface area (Sa): small round nucleus (Sa= 0·81 ± 0·06 μm2) in P. gonderi, large 2-coloured nucleus (Sa= 1·43 ± 0·21 μm2) in P. petersi, and long crescent-shaped nucleus (Sa= 2·18±0·25 μm2) in P. georgesi. The first colour illustrations of the blood-stages of P. georgesi are presented. The dynamics of single and mixed blood infections in primate malaria parasites are discussed, with a proposal to classify them into 3 types.

AbstractRecently, Reese et al. (2008), Lignières & Georgeot (2008) and Lignières & Georgeot (2009) showed that the frequencies of low-degree acoustic modes in rapidly rotating stars, also known as “island modes”, follow an asymptotic formula, the coefficients of which can be deduced from ray dynamics. We investigate how this asymptotic behaviour is affected by μ gradients by comparing pulsation spectra from models with and without such a discontinuity.

Abstract:
Jane Austen has become one of the English writers whose legacy continues to be admired two hundred years after the publication of her novels. She possessed a unique style and view of the English upper class, and her ironic settings and characters introduce readers to a vivid description of the daily lives of her heroines. Austen's influence in modern times made it possible for other women writers to emerge not only through Regency novels, but also through other literary genres, as is the case of Georgette Heyer, one of her literary heiresses or simply a contemporary admirer. Methods such as the historical-logical method, text analysis and analysis-synthesis contributed to this research. The main character of The Grand Sophy is analyzed through literary analysis from a deconstructionist approach. This article presents a study of the characteristics of Modernism and Postmodernism, a biography of Georgette Heyer, a comparison between Heyer and Austen, as well as a study of Deconstruction Theory. The comparative analysis of both novels demonstrates that Sophy is a deconstruction of the character of Emma from the eponymous novel written by Jane Austen.

Abstract:
Climate change has an inevitable impact on tree radial growth, particularly at mountain timeberlines. To understand climate effects on conifer radial growth in the central Hengduan Mountains, and the potential impacts of future climate change on conifer forests, we studied the growth responses to climate variables in Abies georgei, the major tree species of conifer forest in the Hengduan Mountains. We collected tree ring samples from four sites near the timberlines and analyzed the relationship between principle components (PC#1) of four chronologies and climatic variables (monthly mean temperature and monthly total precipitation) by using response function analysis (RFA), redundancy analysis (RDA), and moving interval analysis (MIA). A. georgei growth was affected by both temperature (positive effects) and precipitation (negative effects). Specifically, the radial growth of A. georgei was significantly and positively correlated with current July (by 6.1%) and previous November temperature (by 17.3%) (detected by both RFA and RDA), while precipitation of current June (by 6.6%) and September (by 11.7%) inhibited tree growth (detected by RDA). More rapid warming in the most recent 20 years (1990–2010) clearly enhanced growth responses to July and November temperature, whereas the relationship was weakened for June and September precipitation, according to MIA. Under the climate trend of the study area, if the increasing temperature could offset the negative effects of excessive precipitation, A. georgei radial growth would likely benefit from warming.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Climate warming has been detected and tree growth is sensitive to climate change in Northwestern Yunnan Plateau. Abies georgei is the main component of subalpine forest in the area. In this study, A. georgei ring width chronologies were constructed at four sites ranging from 3300 to 4150 m a.s.l. in Haba Snow Mountain, Southeastern edge of Tibetan Plateau. We analyzed the relationship between four constructed chronologies and climatic variables (monthly minimum temperature, monthly mean temperature, monthly maximum temperature, monthly total precipitation, the Standardized Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index, and monthly relative humidity) by using response function analysis, moving interval analysis, and redundancy analysis. Overall, the growth of A. georgei was positively affected by common climatic factors (winter moisture conditions, autumn temperature, and previous autumn precipitation). At low and middle-low sites, May moisture condition and previous December precipitation controlled its radial growth with positive correlations. At middle-high and high sites, previous November temperature was the key factor affecting tree growth. The result of moving interval analysis was consistent with correlation analyses, particularly for May moisture at low altitudes.

The feminists of thequerelle[des fewines] were reacting to changes they seemed to have no control over, or to a Puritan revolution that served mainly to confirm their subjection to men. Lacking a vision of social movement to change events, their concern lay with consciousness. By their pens, they could at least counteract the psychological consequences of what they felt was a recent, steady decline in the position of women.Joan Kelley, “Early Feminist Theory and theQuerelle des Fannies,”inWomen, History and TheoryGeorgette de Montenay has been the object of enduring scholarly interest, not only as the first woman author of an emblem book, but also as the creator of a new literary and artistic genre: the religious emblem. Most probably converted to Protestantism under the influence of Jeanne d'Albret, Queen of Navarre (to whose court she was attached after her marriage to Guyon de Gout, c. 1562), de Montenay composed a series of one hundred militant Christian octets in the mid-i56os and closely supervised their illustration by a gifted Lyonnais etcher, Pierre Woeiriot, who was also of the reformed persuasion.

Abstract:
The effect of sodium species on the physical and catalytic properties of Cu/ZnO catalysts derived from zincian georgeite has been investigated. Catalysts prepared with <100 ppm to 2.1 wt% Na+, using a supercritical CO2 antisolvent technique, were characterised and tested for the low temperature water–gas shift reaction and also CO2 hydrogenation to methanol. It was found that zincian georgeite catalyst precursor stability was dependent on the Na+ concentration, with the 2.1 wt% Na+-containing sample uncontrollably ageing to malachite and sodium zinc carbonate. Samples with lower Na+ contents (<100–2500 ppm) remained as the amorphous zincian georgeite phase, which on calcination and reduction resulted in similar CuO/Cu particle sizes and Cu surface areas. The aged 2.1 wt% Na+ containing sample, after calcination and reduction, was found to comprise of larger CuO crystallites and a lower Cu surface area. However, calcination of the high Na+ sample immediately after precipitation (before ageing) resulted in a comparable CuO/Cu particle size to the lower (<100–2500 ppm) Na+ containing samples, but with a lower Cu surface area, which indicates that Na+ species block Cu sites. Activity of the catalysts for the water–gas shift reaction and methanol yields in the methanol synthesis reaction correlated with Na+ content, suggesting that Na+ directly poisons the catalyst. In situ XRD analysis showed that the ZnO crystallite size and consequently Cu crystallite size increased dramatically in the presence of water in a syn-gas reaction mixture, showing that stabilisation of nanocrystalline ZnO is required. Sodium species have a moderate effect on ZnO and Cu crystallite growth rate, with lower Na+ content resulting in slightly reduced rates of growth under reaction conditions.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Maurice Leblanc, Gustave Flaubert’s countryman, author of the famous series of novels and short stories about adventures of “gentleman-burglar” Arsène Lupin, from his youth had an interest in works of the author of Madame Bovary . The interest was shared by his sister Georgette Leblanc, a singer, actress and writer. This essay critically examins the early prose of Maurice Leblanc, its connections with the traditions of Flaubert and with typical for “fin de siècle” erotic prose of decadence. A special attention is paid to the novel A woman and its parallels and allusions to Madame Bovary . This essay shows the peculiarities of Leblanc’s description of Roune (against the background of a nagative perception of the city by Flaubert).

Abstract:
Abstract The 2010 eastern North Pacific hurricane season was one of the least active seasons on record. Only seven named storms developed, which is the lowest number observed at least since routine satellite coverage of that basin began in 1966. Furthermore, only three of those storms reached hurricane status, which is also the lowest number of hurricanes ever observed in the satellite-era season. However, two tropical storms made landfall: Agatha in Guatemala and Georgette in Mexico, with Agatha directly causing 190 deaths and moderate to severe property damage as a result of rain-induced floods and mud slides. On average, the National Hurricane Center track forecasts in the eastern North Pacific for 2010 were quite skillful.
