Full texts formulation of sovereignty gives rise. Underlying this endeavor is to probe into the ways in which these implications enrich our understanding of sovereignty. One of the most important achievements of Bataille&rsquo
s approach to sovereignty is that it does not treat sovereignty as merely an administrative and legal issue. This achievement is highly critical in the sense that it enables us to realize the metaphysical dimension of sovereignty. This metaphysics has an important potential to render the problematic points in sovereignty visible. Through the analysis of these points, this study elaborates on the historical development of political authority and state sovereignty. Taking the anthropological data provided by Bataille into account the study claims that with the emergence of modernity, there came into existence a new metaphysical representation of sovereignty.

Full textArising as direct fruits of keen nightlife observation, the new paintings George Desvallières and Georges Rouault exhibit at the Salon d'Automne from 1903 are gradually pervaded by an implicit Christianity, translating a deep sense of pity felt on prostitutes and showmen. The emergence of this new type of production, which is quickly associated with the figure of suffering Christ, seems to be encouraged by the strong personality of the writer Léon Bloy, met by the two painters in April 1904. By privileging the emotional impact, Desvallières and Rouault set up a new iconography with singular and resolutely expressive plastic that seems to be part of a social approach to denounce the masked monstrosities of the world, and which participates in the questioning of the Sulpician art at the beginning of the century. The term "neo-Christian" is used by Desvallières to describe all "intellectuals, poets, scholar and artists" longing for a renewal of religious art. Since the failure of Joris-Karl Huysmans' attempt at Ligugé in 1901, to which Rouault has joined, it seems that Desvallières has become the main actor of this renewal, both in his painting and writings. In addition to a renewed Christian art, more modern and constructive, he is advocating for the creation of a new school of religious art placed under the protection of Notre-Dame de Paris. Despite the fact this project would not succeed right away, it arouses the interest of Maurice Denis and is undoubtedly at the origin of the creation of Workshops of Sacred Art in 1919

Full textOur objectif in this thesis is to analyse the «romantic» development of George Orwell. For the base of the study we have chosen both realist novels and «political satire». The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part will discuss the ideological and socio-historical period in which Orwell lived, his intellectual development, the political-litterary climate of the time giving more details to the life of the author and his works. The second part will concentrate on the actual text of the realist novels of Orwell. We then proceeded with a more thematic reading, the critical way with which the author views the world around him, developping themes such as marginalisation and alienation, rebellion against established order, the search to belong, his fight against totalitarianism. The third part is a political and literary analysis of Animal Farm et Nineteen Eighty-Four

Burmese Days, Keep the Aspidistra Flying and Nineteen Eighty-Four in terms of the main political ideas expressed through these works. It begins with an overview of Orwell as a political writer and the political atmosphere of the era. The thesis then asserts that the novels are used as a form of propaganda by the writer. The central political ideas that appear in the novels are imperialism in Burmese Days, capitalism in Keep the Aspidistra Flying and totalitarianism in Nineteen Eighty-Four. This dissertation is therefore primarily organized around these topics, and Orwell&rsquo
s use of his novels as a way of conveying his political message will be illustrated and exemplified in the study.

______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
The present work aims to analyze the theme of motherhood in the novels of the 19th century English writer Mary Ann Evans, who published her writings under the pseudonym George Eliot. Although motherhood is a recurrent theme in her fictional production, it has not been sufficiently explored in the innumerable critical studies I identified about her work. The focus almost never is on her female characters, on their experiences, though Eliot’s novels present a rich variety of women of diverse social classes of Victorian society, with different and complex experiences, including motherhood. Eliot, who opted against having children, portrays mothers in different situations, presenting those women who perform the role of traditional mothers and women who become transgressors of the values of the epoch and defy this role. I intend to analyze the representation of motherhood in her seven novels – Adam Bede (1859), Silas Marner (1860), The Mill on the Floss (1861), Romola (1863), Felix Holt, The Radical (1866), Middlemarch (1874) e Daniel Deronda (1876) – developing new readings of her fictional production, from the perspective of the feminist and gender studies. With this study I hope to contribute to new perspectives of this theme and to the problematization and deconstruction of patriarchal values and myths.
