Full textThe author experiment the geographical documentary as a tool of research and communication during a geographical mission. The film "karakash, the black jade river" is presented as the main component of this work. It was produced by cap'tain nemo (tel: 33-1 47 07 50 13) a company co-founded by the author. A text: "reflexions paralleles" present the specific contributions of the documentary, his interest, his limits, the various shooting device and a chronology of his direction. A 2nd part : "panorama du documentaire geographique" treat of the geographer's eyes specificities in the lap of a cinematografic family : the documentary. After a presentation of the grammatical elements of the cinematografic language available for the "geo-filmmakers" this essay propoond an historical retrospectiv about the geographical movie and his financial supports

Full textThis work presents studies made on an operational algotihms for atmospheric correction over land for the sensor ENVISAT/MERIS (Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer). First, we explain the theoretical basis of the algorithm based on the retrieval of the aerosol characteristics above Dark Dense Vegetation (DDV) targets. Then we lead a sensitivity study on the products : the surface reflectances, the aerosol optical thickness, the Angström coefficient which is a parameter of the granulometry. This study shows what are the limits of both approximations and hypothesis, regarding particularly the single scattering. Then we show how we ameliorate the modelling of the coupling during the retrieval of the aerosol characteristics. We also propose a method to correct this retrieval of the surface effects : BRDF or adjacency effects. Finally, we present a preliminary validation of the MERIS level 2 products using images of the sensor IRS/MOS. Then, we illustrate the continuity of the aerosol characteristics in coastal zones. We also compare the aerosol products to AERONET (AErosol RObotic NETwork). This way, we show how necessary it is to set up an aerosol climatology in order to get a representative aerosol product. Then, we get encouraging results regarding the stability of the surface reflectances after atmospheric correction

Full textThis research aims at clarifying the progressive establishment of geographical knowledge about French Africa on the part of French geographers. After a first phase, that of colonial geography, one sees the birth of a true African geography. The choice to limit my research to French west Africa and French equatorial Africa presupposes the privileged relationship between French geographers and the former colonies. My geographical approach uses the techniques of sociology of science, conceived to study laboratory research. In this sense, the homologue for the laboratory is the field studied. To study the field I took as an analytical tool the discourse produced. Actually, the individual discourses show thought patterns and reveal the research, but also carry discursive contexts, according to the directives given by Michel Foucault in the archaeology of knowledge
Archambeau, Olivier. "Images au sol, images aériennes et images satellites : regard d'une géographie dynamique." Paris 1, 1997. http://www.theses.fr/1997PA010542.
Full textThis work shows the efficiency of an observational geographic method created with a combination of pictures of several scales. The combination of satelite images, aerial and ground pictures is able to answer geographical problematics. We have analysed the evolution of the photographic and iconography observations in geography. The "archives de la planete" experimentation, realised by Albert Kahn and Jean Brunhes, between 1906 and 1930, constitutes the base of our research. Three of their expeditions (Canada, 1926 ; India, 1913 and 1927) have been revisited during this study. After that we looked for the different methods of observations by images until today. We propose a new method, to prouve and test the efficiency of this method, we organised an expedition around the world wich lasted 20 months with a truck and an ultra-light aircraft. The satelite images were supplied by spot image, 32 sites were studied. The conclusion of this work are presented in three examples : Vancouver (Canada), Calama (Chili), et Sao Luis (Brasil)

Full textWe approach the teachers’ “didactic activity” as the individual and collective process of drawing up and realizing the task, when this one involves both teaching and instructing disciplinary knowledge. We will focus on primary school teachers’ didactic activity in geography, which becomes the “teachers’ geographical discourse” while interacting with pupils. For this purpose, we mobilize a framework of geography didactic, based on the concept of personal geographical relationship to the world, as well as some concepts of ergonomic and clinical analysis of the activity. This study is based on the analysis of four geography “teaching units”, led with 9 to 11 year- old pupils, and on a corpus resulting from self-confrontation interviews. The results present both the singularity and the generic characteristic of the didactic activity and of the teachers’ geographical discourses. They highlight the important place taken up by the resources produced by the individual world experience, by the subject matter and by the endogenous prescription within the didactic activity of the pluri-disciplinary teachers. The analysis of the self-confrontation interviews reveals the central role of subjective mobilization in the drawing up of the task and in the opening of a potential development area of the teachers’ didactic activity

Full text: Inter-, pluri-, multi-, trans-: these many prefixes all denote how keen today's school is on making knowledge and skills circulate within a framework traditionally renowned for its segmentation. Starting from an epistomological study of the fruitful interaction between spontaneous geography and reasoned geography, this thesis offers to define and develop tools to implement it within the geography class. This research work's hypothesis is that this interaction can be positively impacted by artistic practice. To verify it, I designed and tested three tools, in an apporach that was altogether a teacher's, a trainer's and a researcher's : a photography contest, a "sensitive postcard" cartography contest, and a performance

Full textThis dissertation questions the way XXth-century French geographers represented their research activities by exploring the different meanings the terms field and fieldwork had for them, and especially their place in heuristic processes and in the scientific psyche. It aims at applying the different approaches and methods of sciences studies to geography. Throughout the period, field and fieldwork led to a dominant order of discourse which structured representations and practices. This study is a response to works inspired by the theory of scientific revolutions and emphasizes the immutability of discourses. The “crisis of French geography,” which refers to the period of doubt the discipline went through during the 1960s and 1970s, may be regarded as a mutation of discourses rather than a radical change in practices. This change of focus on the history of geography leads us to reconsider the theoretical tools to be used to write it. When viewed as a “total scientific fact”, field and fieldwork thus represent a relevant approach to geography as a whole – that is to say its methods, aims, content and actors
