Abstract:
AbstractModern zoos utilise a variety of education tools for communicating with visitors. Previous research has discussed the benefits of providing multiple education communications, yet little research provides an indication of what communications are being employed within zoos today. This research is a two-phased, mixed-methods investigation into the communication between zoos and their general visitors. Phase 1 involved an online questionnaire to which 176 zoos from 50 countries reported on the types of education communications they typically use for their general visitors. The second phase comprised nine zoo case studies, enabling direct observation and face-to-face interviews on site with zoo staff and zoo visitors. The findings of this research provide a snapshot of education communications offered to zoo visitors, and indicate that zoo exhibit signage remains the most prevalent medium. The findings further indicate that 95% of visitors read at least some exhibit signs and that more than 70% of participating zoos utilise person-to-person education. The implications of these findings for improving zoos’ educational communication are discussed.

Abstract:
Introduction. Due to the fact that modern military-political communication science deals with very contradictory both factual non-verbal and text-discursive phenomena, it seems necessary and relevant the scientific systematization of military-political terminology. The development of a unified terminological apparatus and methodological approach also needs to be clarified in modern communication science. The aim of the article is a communicative-cognitive and textual-discursive study of the segment of political communication science called military-political science. Methodology and research methods. Adhering to the traditional three-term division for discursive, communicative and lexico-grammatical levels of description, we present the communicative-discursive model "modern war" based on the materials of the official Russian media in 2021-2022. The article uses the research methods of linguoconceptology, linguoculturology, such as modeling concepts, methods of component lexical analysis that help to establish the seme composition of individual lexemes. And there is also lexicographic analysis aimed at compiling a fragment of the dictionary, which concerns modern military-political terminology. Results. The article demonstrates that the communicative-discursive fragment "war" not only forms the core of military-political communication science, but also sets many directions for interpreting and modeling the basic dominant associative-semantic components."Modern war" is presented as a hybrid, multifaceted, multicomponent, covering and connecting absolutely all spheres of human and social life, both real and virtual. It is the latter that transforms war into a cruel game, where certain actions are carried out in a false, illusory space according to easily violated rules. Interpretation and modeling of modern military-political discourse creates a communicative-cognitive base for a correct understanding of real events, excludes the possibility of manipulating public consciousness, excludes the possibility of effective information and propaganda wars, and therefore serves as a powerful methodological tool for verifying the modern most complex information field. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the systematization of the structure and content of the terminological system of military-political communication science as a section of political communication science and communication science in general. The practical significance of the study lies in the use of modeling methods for various text-discursive fragments in the communicative aspect, which is aimed at clarifying existing models and constructing and interpreting the latest ones.

Abstract:
The quality of care which patients receive within the NHS is dependent upon the communication between general practitioners (GPs) and specialists and the letter is the most widely used instrument in this process (Freeling & Kessel, 1984). There are only a few studies which have evaluated the efficiency of communication between the GP and the hospital specialist. For example, de Alarcon et al (1960) showed that 96% of specialists' reports to GPs were found to offer a definite contribution to the understanding of the case, whereas 4% were “vague and useless”.

Abstract:
he article provides an overview of Russian articles on media linguistics. In the articles, PRspeech is described in terms of media linguistics. The purpose of the article is to present a spheral approach to the study of PR activities. PR-speech is described as an applied communication technology that serves the administrative, economic, socio-cultural, commercial and political activities of subjects in a highly competitive media environment. In the article, the types of PR-discourses are identified by induction, their typological and genre forms are defined. The review showed that the PR media style is determined by extralinguistic factors of political, commercial or cultural and educational activities, the content and subject of publications, the goals of communication, and the forms of communication with the addressee. PR-discourse can be divided into four types: administrative-economic, political, commercial and cultural-educational. Each discourse has a specific genre-typological system, which helps to optimize communication between the customer and the performer in the implementation of the contract and is an indicator of the effectiveness of communication in a professional environment. The author comes to the conclusion that the metalanguage of PR-speech in the categories of media linguistics demonstrates stability and proves that the institutionalization of this direction in the field of education and professional activity has taken place and is included in the register of scientific specialties “Media Communications and Journalism”.

Abstract:
This study examined trends and patterns of mobile communication research across 10 communication journals between 1999 and 2014 with the intent to increase knowledge about mobile communication and to help scholars understand the future research directions. A total of 131 articles were coded for general information about journals, primary topic/context of the study, use of theories or models, research methods, units of analysis/types of sample, and countries or locations. Findings showed that the number of mobile communication-related studies increased over the time period of interest. Scholars examined uses and users’ characteristics of mobile communication as well as the effects of mobile media on everyday life. Most studies used quantitative methods such as survey of the general population. Theories or theoretical models were not frequently used in mobile communication research. Regarding the usage of theories or theoretical models, about half of mobile communication studies (48.1%) used theories and/or models as theoretical frameworks. Implications for improving this field of research are specifically discussed.

Abstract:
The article considers the specifics of the modern studies of the media and mass communications. It describes the possibility and the necessity of metatheoretic research in this field similarly to the studies in social sciences. The authors stress the need for analytical research aimed at conceptualizing the existing approaches to the media studies. The paper presents the methods and the results of the analysis of the dissertations in 10.01.10 — Journalism which belong to the period from 2012 to 2016. This period was chosen as a relevant one taking into account the necessity of studying the real state of the modern media research projects with a possibility of identifying certain dynamics of the researchers’ interest in the context of digitization, extension of communication space and transformation of sociocultural practices. The communication process scheme was taken as a basis of the empirical analysis. It includes a communicator, a channel of communication, its content, audience and communication effect and is completed by contextual factors of interaction. Taking into account the obtained empirical data, the study demonstrates the misbalance of the scholars’ attention to different elements of the communication process and the stress on separate elements of the mass communication process. It also points out the lack of studies dedicated to the modern media audience. The authors trace certain disproportion of the scientific knowledge structure about the media sphere, the lack of generalizations and also emphasize the difficulties in the description of the subject-object field of the media studies caused by inconstancy and changeability of the media landscape. The authors suppose that the typological specifics of dissertation works on journalism and mass communications could be seen as a factor of a general media theory construction.

Abstract:
The present paper shows the results of research on general zones in large European multispeciality hospitals. A dozen or so institutions, flagship examples of large contemporary hospitals, were selected for the study. The research focused on internal zones, in particular the reception area linked to the main communication system of the hospital, which functions as a public space offering a range of services and provides space for communication, waiting and meetings. This work aims to determine design trends in the location and forms of general zones, their characteristics and proportion to other zones in hospitals, architectural features and functional-spatial solutions. The relationships between the shape of the hospital, its internal general zones, and their percentage share in the total building area were examined. Art and greenery in these zones were also investigated, along with the presence of natural lighting, the colours, and the type of finishing materials used in this type of space today. The study revealed noticeable differences between the form of general zones in large contemporary as well as 20th-century hospitals. In addition to their form, the arrangement of zones has also changed, and they often do not resemble a hospital space. Art and greenery play an increasingly important role. The general zone is a hospital’s essential communication hub, constituting the main public space where people may meet.

Abstract:
In their institute authors teach medical communication skills in three languages (Hungarian, English and German) for medical students in the first year of their studies. In order to improve teaching methods, authors wanted to explore the attitudes of students towards the communication skills learning. For this purpose authors applied the Communication Skills Attitudes Scale created by Rees et al., which is an internationally accepted and well adaptable instrument. Aims: In this survey authors wanted to validate the Hungarian and German version of the Communication Skills Attitudes Scale. In addition, their aim was to analyze possible differences between the attitudes of each of the three medical teaching programs. Methods: Questionnaires were filled anonymously at the beginning of the practices. Principal component analysis with varimax rotation was performed to evaluate the attitudes using the SPSS 10.5 version for analysis. Results: Authors created a model consisting of 7 factors. Factors were the following: 1: respect and interpersonal skills; 2: learning; 3: importance of communication within medical profession; 4: excuse; 5: counter; 6: exam; 7: overconfidence. It was found that students had mainly positive attitudes. Except the learning factor, all other factors showed significant differences between the three medical teaching programs. Conclusions: although students had mainly positive attitudes toward learning communication skills, there were negative attitudes which can be partly modified by improving the teaching methods. However, results may create a proper base for further research to help improving communication skills teaching methods of the authors. Orv. Hetil., 2011, 152, 1535–1543.

Some light is shed on the visualisations of the current condition of the nation-state with respect to globalizing or Europeanising tendencies. Abstract:
After a general mapping of the different understandings of affect, this article focuses on two aspects of a Deleuze-Guattarian understanding of affect which are of particular relevance for media and communication studies. The first is understanding affect as potential. It is through the forces of encounter that bodies are affected and that these affections then can be turned into action, into their capacity to affect. The second is understanding the perpetual becoming that takes place through continual encounters between bodies; with each encounter, the body changes, however slightly and subtly. The concept of assemblage that allows one to grasp these dynamics and complexities is discussed as an approach towards a much more complex theoretical grounding for processes of agency and power. Working with affect in media and communication studies, a three-fold strategy will be presented: to analyse how media generate affects and capitalise on them; to analyse what media do—in the sense of mobilizing potential; to analyse phenomena of mediated communication as assemblages. The article ends with challenges and new paths for conducting research on affect.

Abstract:
An great body of research has been carried out to study physician-patient communication and its impact on quality of care, patient satisfaction, treatment and health. Good physician-patient communication is proved to increase patient’s health. Most of the existent literature on the field has been done on younger patients and only a small part of the studies conducted took into consideration the older patients’ communication and relationship with their doctors. We depart from the idea that age has an important role in doctor-patient interaction, as age moderates the relationship between the style of interaction and patient satisfaction. This study aims to explore the physician-older patient communication by analyzing the way elders experience the relationship with the general practitioner. By doing so, the current study looks at the way elders perceive their relationship with the general practitioner and the level of their satisfaction. Elements like tone of voice, forms of address, topics, explanations given, motifs of the visit have been considered in the present study in order to explore de doctor-older patient communication.

Abstract:
Abstract A single but collective, multifaceted, and multidimensional theory of terminology relies on the contributions of scholars in different ways and in different languages. Local terminology practice and exploration back-feed the general theory and jointly contribute to the completion of a comprehensive theoretical framework. This paper analyzes the application of terminology as the driving force of the discipline, which includes standardized application, domain-specific communicative application, and cross-cultural/cross-lingual application. Specifically, the characteristics of terminology translation practice in China are introduced, with terminology translation conducted as a practice of knowledge dissemination and discourse contribution bound by and affecting Chinese language. Then, several characteristics of Chinese terminology studies are introduced. It is pointed out that Chinese terminology studies, based on the answering of the local terminology problems in China, have universal value for the construction of terminology as a whole discipline.

Abstract:
In the last few years, the development of Multi-Core architectures was driven by the crescent advance in integration technology. In this scenario, when the number of cores increases, problems found on shared communication media, such as busses, can be addressed by using a network approach. This paper proposes the usage of communication capabilities of Networks-on-Chip (NoCs) to execute general purpose instructions. The main idea behind this approach is to allow networks-on-chip architectures to execute general purpose instructions inside each router architecture. This paper addresses the main architectural concerns involved on creating datapaths for routers as well as the programming model suggested to pack instructions on messages. Simulation results on two case studies illustrate the benefits of the proposed architecture when compared to an equivalent NoC-based MP-SoC.

Abstract:
Communication as a process of information sharing is a key segment of all management functions. Insufficient or poor-quality information sharing suggests unproductive communication. Globalization and development of modern, sophisticated technologies allow management to adapt and create productive work communication. Considering the statements above, in this paper, the emphasis will be on showing aspects of productive communication considering a maritime organization reflecting metacommunication as a tool for improving communication skills. This paper will descriptively explain the process of communication in the organization, the ways and actions a manager must take as his activities in the function of business success, and how to improve communication to maximize productivity with the main goal of incorporating metacommunication in an organization. For such, pilot research was conducted on Graduate students of the Faculty of Maritime Studies in Split, majoring in Maritime Management (imagining students as employees and professors as managers), which showed that 75% know the concept of metacommunication, but only 51% use metacommunication with their colleagues as a part of productive communication.

Abstract:
The article studies the origins and the world historical experience of corporate communications branch which with the growth and globalization of large business in the early XX century was separated into an independent public relations sphere of activity. The attempt has been made to generalize and to structure the acquired theoretical material dedicated to this topic. Based on the analysis of English-language scientific sources the corporate communications concept is characterized and its connection with other related areas including media activities is studied. The object of the study is considered through a historical prism as a set of management and communication approaches of business organizations aimed at effective interaction with internal and external stakeholders, harmonization of relations with society, management functions implementation, brand promotion, and business development in general. The influence of the most important historical events, certain companies, and individuals on the corporate communications evolution is traced. It is described how the historical realities affected the establishment of the studied concept, the peculiarities of its implementation, as well as transformations in the modern business and social and communication environment. It is proved that the corporate communications history largely coincides with the general chronology of public relations but at the same time has its clear line. The maturity, global nature, rich content, and practical significance of this activity for both business and society are demonstrated. One of the conclusions is that corporate communications integrate a number of applied management functions, covering the various communication roles, activities and tools due to a set of historical factors, and public relations is a macro-phenomenon under the auspices of which corporate communications have been formed and continue to develop.

Abstract:
This article argues that the term ‘technoculture’ is frequently used in a woolly manner to refer in a general way to technologies implicated in Western cultures, and to constructions of culture that incorporate technological aspects. The opportunity for the term to convey a specific meaning is lost in the generality of this everyday usage. Arguing from first principles about the nature of technology and culture, the paper suggests that technoculture as a term should be applied to communications technologies that are used in the mediated construction of culture. To be technocultural, the technology concerned must facilitate cultural communication across space and/or time and should, in some way, raise issues of place. Since culture is a construction involving communication and more than one person, technoculture involves the communication of cultural material in technological contexts — which is to say, other than the face-to-face. If this definition were to be adopted, future discussions of technoculture would indicate reference to a technology that allows the construction of culture across space and time.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to distinguish the corporate communication channels by typology, by the designation of their characteristics and features of application, as well as to institutionalize the concept of corporate media. Design/methodology/approach In the theoretical part, with the help of general review, critical analysis, systematization and generalization, the main scientific works devoted to corporate communications have been studied. In practical part, the method of typology there has been used and descriptive analysis of types of communication channels has been carried out. Findings The research distinguishes the types of channels used in modern corporate communication. It reveals that corporate communication channels can be divided into two main types according to the criteria of relation to the company: outsiders and insiders. Then the channels can be divided into broad functional subtypes: events, advertising, media and a specific category – social media. The typological separation also can be based on the auditorium and communication technologies indications. Originality/value This study makes a significant contribution to the development of studies of corporate communication through structuring communication channels. The establishment of types, features and prospects for the development of communication channels, in particular such specific ones as corporate and social media, contribute to a more systematic approach to the methods of their use. From a practical point of view, companies can be guided by the results of this research during the formation of a mix of corporate communication.
