This research intends to reflect on the concept of "science education" in Brazil , starting from a grounded epistemologically in the genealogy of this expression and exploring discursive marks that denote the evolution of his career as a field of knowledge and concept analysis. The research of genealogy and production conditions of this concept was based on a more general and historical view to exploiting their linguistic materialization through the vocabulary used in publications listed in the database of theses and journals CAPES science education . With support from methods of Scientometrics and Analysis of French Discourse, discourse tags that can be attached to historical ruptures and transformations that have occurred in the field of Brazilian science education were identified. The delimitation of discursive sets of clippings is inspired by the concepts of genealogy and archeology of knowledge Michel Foucault , started from extemporaneous considerations Nietzsche as critical to the traditional concept of science bias. The processing of sets of discursive excerpts taken as the reference field concept introduced by Pierre Bourdieu, discussed here in his lexicographical representation. The results were, first, the contribution to a family view of the concept of science education in Brazil , avoiding a priori treatment is generally given. Secondly, the contribution to the creation of a mixed methodology for genealogical approach to a field of knowledge , balancing qualitative work conceived in the Discourse Analysis of French bias line and quantitative focus of Scientometrics (in its constructivist approach). Research on the Brazilian scientific educational field revealed aspects of their dynamics and permeability interference , revealed through the character of suspension (ambiguity) in the lexical practices and reflections on the concept " science education ".

This research discusses the naturalization of the idea of a “child with a say” in contemporary critical-scientific discourses. This conception was constituted in these discourses so as to criticize the idea of modern childhood, related, among other things, to notions of immaturity and dependence on adults. The figure of subjectivity “child with a say” is used to justify an ensemble of varied practices – juridical (“child-witness”), political (“citizen child"), mediatic (“protagonist child”), educational (“competent child”) – which aims at investing on the child figure for which the constitution of a child as a subject of opinion and representation is determinant. The analysis of this discursive field – which comprises Sociology of Childhood, Anthropology of Childhood, Pedagogy of Childhood and Social Psychology – based on M. Foucault’s archaeo-genealogy, identified the kinds of statements present in this network, as well as the kind of discourse used. It was noticed that the functioning of these discourses depends on some presuppositions, which, in this research, are denominated mechanisms of critical discursivity. They are: the development of the concept representations of childhood and child, the constitution of the adult as an interdictor, the rediscovery of childhood, speech as a natural possibility and the idealization of the “childhood with a speech”. It was concluded that such presuppositions cooperate to produce the “childhood with a speech” as evidence, to which knowledge must devote itself and experience. Finally, an assemblage of investigation lines were elaborated and served as a base for the constitution of a genealogy of this subjectivity figure, typical of present times.

This thesis intends to present the knowledge obtained from research concerning the process that leads to the interdiction attributed to a health "technique" called autohemotherapy (AHT). Here it is intended to demonstrate the political dimension of the action (taken, jointly, by political and biomedical entities) to make health practitioners "forbidden" to practice AHT. The interdiction of the AHT is treated here as an event permeated by three dimensions of social life, namely, economic, scientific and political. The central focus is concentrated on the latter two. The thesis I present here is that the change in the scientific parameters of medicine was influenced by the discovery of penicillin. I develop this thesis from some hypotheses, namely: 1) "Medical-scientific" agents (or biomedical ones, figured in the Federal Medical Council) are carrying out a political action in suggesting the "ban" to the AHT – based on alleged lack of scientificity – since no research is used, Required by them, attesting to any risk of using the therapy; 2) The interdictive act is the result of an "institutional thought"; 3) The prohibition of AHT is based on the change in the criteria of scientificity and the reduction of "medical authority" in the production of health knowledge for pharmacological knowledge.

It quesJons the way values and ancestral pracJces are perceived and transported to the present, once exposed to the permeability of locality phenomena with the network of global flows and the interacJon generated by the massive circulaJon of informaJon, people and commodiJes. The project reflects on the process of transmission and reproducJon of the "knowhow", as a knowledge of the raw materials and technical competence of the cramsman, moving hands and body, incorporated and conJnuously pracJced, becoming a lived memory, thus ensuring that the material and symbolic values of the idenJty and sociocultural heritage of a group, are conserved and / or adapted to their individual performance in the present. Full textIn 1974, Elizabeth Noelle-Neumann presented the theory of the spiral of silence, where she proposes an explanation for the formation, continuity, change, effects and functions of the public opinion. In her vision, public opinion guarantees social cohesion, threatening with ostracism and exclusion everyone that challenges it. In the elaboration of the spiral of silence theory, Noelle-Neumann has acknowledged the contribution of other authors. In fact, her theory aimed at recovering the concept of public opinion that had its origin in Classical Antiquity. To propose a genealogy of the spiral of silence is the first objective of this thesis, using the references in the author’s texts and also of the concepts of public, public sphere and public opinion. The second objective of this thesis is to provide an empirical test of this theory of the public opinion. We will consider the critical approaches and the methodological developments raised by the spiral of silence in the last four decades. Our empirical investigation focus on opinion expression on hazing. We use a sample of 701 students from Universidade da Beira Interior and Instituto Politécnico da Guarda to investigate two questions. First, are the students restrained on their opinion expression on hazing? Second, is there a spiral of silence associated to hazing? Our results suggest a positive answer to both questions.

Full textAfter the financial crisis of 2008, financial institutions "too big to fail" went bankrupt causing the eurozone crisis. Since the beginning of the sovereign debt crisis, which mainly affected the countries of southern Europe, the application of "structural adjustment programs" has been proposed as a solution. The European Commission's dominant discourse from 2010 to 2014 based its approach on the idea that the affected countries "were living beyond their means", an argument that justified the adoption of measures such as labor flexibility, liberalization of services, privatization, reduction pensions and salaries. The solution presented by the EC was dubbed by various neoliberal or ordoliberal authors. This whole speech has been increasingly questioned since the beginning of the crisis by economists who warned of the poor results of the liberalization process and the policies implemented during the euro. Based on this context, the dissertation traces a critical genealogy of neoliberal discourse at the international level and ordoliberal level at a regional level to understand the dominant discourse of the EC 2010 2014. It intends to identify the main agents, contexts and concepts that structured neoliberal and ordoliberal discourse. The research starts from a genealogical approach based on the critical analysis of foucauldian discourse, to understand how discourse has become dominant throughout recent history. In this process, we analyze the epistemic communities that formed the neoliberal discourse and its international institutionalization as well as the ordoliberalism at European level, in order to understand the systemic influence that these two discourses had on the main EC proposals 2010 2014. At the end of this investigation, it will be concluded that there is an influence of international neoliberal discourse and regional European ordoliberalism in the discourse of EC 2010 2014.

Full textThe Brazilian way of Liberalism: A Sociological Study on the Genealogy of the Brazilian Citizen Type (1822-1891) is a master's thesis in Sociology that critically reviews the agenda of Brazilian liberalism, its relationship with Brazilian independence and slavery, as well as the Brazilian State’s promotion and diffusion of formal citizenship during the nineteenth century. Moreover, the State has omitted and neglected to provide substantive citizenship. This thesis discusses both the independence of Brazil and the Brazilian way of liberalism as a revolution building a democratic State and nation of law in parity with other international liberal formations, but which remains with colonial practices of governance of the population. This study provides a deconstruction of the “ideology of backwardness” in developing countries, thereby exploring the emergence of insurgent citizens related to practices of freedom and equality.

Full textThe current work focuses on the time we live in, marked by rapid change, the increasing interdependence between people and countries, as well as the rise in imminent danger. Our time demands a knowledge and a thinking which must stem from a wide and accessible reflection on the conditions we are given to assert ourselves as free autonomous people, prepared to live together, either locally or globally. Learning to think critically is thus essential to build this discerning reflective attitude. Hence, it is our belief that teaching Philosophy in Secondary Education is, for its initiating nature, an excellent area for students to prepare and exert themselves in this activity. Criticism, which was the guiding principle behind political action throughout the 18th century, may turn into the dynamics of pedagogic and didactic practice, so that its main goal will consist in teaching students to formulate judgments in which they will be able to distinguish between authentic and inauthentic, true and false, right and wrong, beautiful and ugly. For this reason, we must acknowledge that, in this context, it is important to deepen the understanding of the art of criticism, following Kant’s tradition, the project of critical theory and critical pedagogy. On the other hand, our purpose is to show how the questions around criticism may become particularly inspiring in syllabi concentrating on its principle, like the ones relating to techniques for text analysis, discussion and research, which can be found in Richard Paul, Linda Elder and Gerald Nosich. We intend to demonstrate that the art of criticism turns into an asset which may effectively teach students to think, when it becomes the core of a critical didactic syllabus. In conclusion, our main goal is to set the Philosophy syllabus of Portuguese Secondary Education in a framework where learning to think is crucial. This challenge can only be met if those involved can take and follow it as a learning process requiring a special attention to the elements, criteria and features underlying critical thinking.
