Abstract:
Voice onset time is known to be affected by phonetic context, age, native language of the speaker, or presence of a communication disorder in the speaker. The role of gender in VOT production has not been investigated. The present study reports a significant gender difference in VOT production of the /d/ and /t/ stops, with men having shorter VOTs than women ( n subjects = 16). Qualitative differences in VOT based on gender are also noted. Although a significant difference in speaking rate between the genders was found, this was not correlated with VOT. Gender differences in VOT have implications for other research.

Abstract:
In general, females have been reported to be more susceptible to motion sickness and experience greater malaise. However, conflicting findings suggests that gender differences may be driven by susceptibility rather than gender. In this study, susceptibility was balanced within the genders and treatments to determine if gender differences are due to gender or susceptibility. Analysis of motion history questionnaire data found no significant differences between genders, but did find a significant difference between hi and low susceptibles. Analysis of Simulator Sickness Questionnaire total scores revealed consistent insignificant differences between the genders in all treatments and significant differences between hi and low susceptibles at all sampling points except baseline. Analyzing dropout and percent exposure duration completed data revealed an unsubstantial difference between genders, but did yield a dropout rate 2.3 times higher among high susceptibles compared to low susceptibles. As a result of the aforementioned findings, future research in motion sickness gender differences should account for susceptibility as a subject variable.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Despite increasing attention to gender issues in the humanitarian sector, the notion of gender equality as a humanitarian goal remains largely rejected, as some argue it would require interfering with cultural values and practices, and thus lie beyond the remit of humanitarianism. This paper questions this by examining the close relationship between certain humanitarian goals, and cultural values and practices. It ultimately calls for a gender-transformative humanitarian action that recognises and supports local feminist actors, in an effort to transform gender relations both in local communities and within humanitarianism itself.

Abstract:
Abstract The aim of this research is to examine the retirement timing of older men and women in the United States and to find what factors impact such timings. This research used the 2014 Health and Retirement Study datasets. A total of 2,401 respondents were included in this research. All of the participants were over 60 years old, half were women, and the majority of participants were full-time workers (81.8%). The dependent variable was expected years until retirement which was measured as a continuous variable, asking when the respondent thinks he/she will stop work or retire. Controlling for age, race, marital status, education, health, full time, and a number of children, the results revealed that males expect to work 1.2 years longer than women. Yet women have reasons for working longer that are not found among men. Older age and poor health predict a sooner retirement for both men and women. Yet women differed from men in wanting longer work lives if they are African American, employed part-time, and have large families. Women are living longer than men, and the labor participation of women is increasing. Older women will have more challenge in preparing for retirement than men due to their greater need to extend work to secure income. Gender differences in expectation for retirement financial security and their effect on retirement timing. Deserves future research, to understand women’s decision making at this life stage.

Abstract:
While studies of gender differences in burnout using the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) report contradictory results, those using the Burnout Measure (BM) indicate a consistent gender difference — women report higher levels of burnout in both their work and their marriages. The present study examined gender differences in burnout among Israelis due to the Palestinian intifada. Ninety seven women and 94 men from six political groups took part in the study. Participants responded to the BM as well as to questions about stresses that were related to their burnout and their ways of coping with it. A two-way analysis of variance (gender by group) indicated that while there was a significant difference among the six groups in levels of burnout, there was no gender difference. However, there were some differences in coping with burnout. The findings are interpreted as supporting an existential perspective on burnout.
