In this article, the authors for the fi rst time using little-known historical and archival footage to trace the history of the origin, formation, development of Kostroma provincial gendarmerie management (hereinafter referred to as the КPGM). The chronological framework of the article covers the period of 1857—1890. The theme of daily life of employees of the КPGM is not widely enough disclosed in modern research, the history of one person, including the heads of local law enforcement agencies.
