Abstract:
Multilayer ZnO varistors were prepared by aqueous gel tape casting with water-soluble acrylamide as binder. 0.8wt% PAA dispersant was found to be the optimum concentration needed to prepare stable slurry. Plasticizer glycerol has a positive effect on the fluidity of the suspension and oxygen anti-polymerizing inhibitor PEG 2000 deteriorated the fluidity. The addition of 15wt. % PEG2000 eliminates the surface exfoliation absolutely due to the oxygenation of ether units. The solid loading of the slurry was about 71wt% compared to the custom acrylic formulation binder 60wt%. The multilayer ZnO varistors prepared by aqueous gel tape casting display comparable good electrical properties to those prepared by water-based tape casting using custom acrylic formulation binder which is attributed to the high solid loading of slurry.

Abstract:
The diploma thesis is focused on preparation of thin and highly flexible ceramic tapes from zirconia with a thickness from 70 to 200 m. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part presents a literary research that focuses on the properties of zirconium dioxide, the preparation of thin ceramic foils and the evaluation of the mechanical properties of ceramic materials. The second part is experimental. It deals with the preparation of thin ceramic foils from colloidal ceramic suspensions produced by epoxy gel-tape casting method. The suspensions were prepared from zirconium dioxide stabilized by 2 and 3 mol.% of yttrium oxide. The maximum deflection and strength was determined on sintered foils. The maximum biaxial strength of 1806 MPa was achieved for 3Y-PC 75 foils with a thickness of 190 m. The maximum deflection of 10.5 mm at a ceramic foil thickness of 75 m was achieved in a 3-point bend with a support span of 30 mm on 3Y-PC 75 samples. At a support distance of 50 mm, the samples were pushed through the gap without damage. These results indicate excellent mechanical properties of the prepared ceramic foils.

Abstract:
This thesis deals with fabrication and optimization of lead-free piezoceramics based on (Ba0,85Ca0,15Zr0,1Ti0,9)O3 (BCZT). The BCZT precursor powder was synthesized by sol-gel method. Dependence of relative density, microstructure, phase structure and piezoelectric properties on the sintering temperature in a range from 1300–1500 °C was studied on disc shaped samples, which were prepared by cold isostatic pressing (CIP) using pressure of 700 MPa. It was found, that sintering at 1300 and 1350 °C leads to ceramics with fine-grain microstructure, which exhibits poor piezoelectric properties (d*33 = 50 pC·N1 and 65 pC·N1, respectively). The highest value of piezoelectric charge coefficient was obtained by sintering at 1500 °C (d*33 = 390 pC·N1). Furthermore, BCZT thick films were prepared by tape casting. The composition of the ceramic slurry was optimized and various sintering techniques were tested to obtain completely flat films of BCZT ceramics. The correct sintering configuration has not been found. The least deformation of the films was achieved when the samples were sintered hung on the ZrO2 rod. The highest value of d*33 for BCZT films was measured when the sample was sintered at 1400 °C with the dwell time for 4 h (d*33 = 340 pC·N1).

Abstract:
Vzorky v konfiguraci 3-3, slinované při 1500 °C, vykazovaly nejvyšší dielektrické a piezoelektrické vlastnosti, kde Curieho teplota = 86 °C, tan = 0.021, remanentní polarizace = 4.56 µC/cm2 a d33 = 100 ± 4 pC/N.

Abstract:
Television is popularly used to offer information to viewers during elections. There will always be citizens who register to participate in an election and then refuse to take further steps, like casting their votes. This study sought to find out if television broadcasts made citizens like these experience the crystallization effect. This effect causes uninterested citizens to make crystal clear choices on particular contestants. This study sought to find out about the crystallization effect on voters in Ado Odo/Ota communities in Ogun State of Nigeria during the 2007 Nigerian presidential election. The survey method was used to get required data from 782 respondents who were not members of any political party, had no candidate preference, and were yet to decide on who to vote for in this election. It seems plain from this study that television broadcasts sharpened these citizens' decisions to make specific choices. These undecided, indifferent, or neutral voters had their ideas crystallized or decisively formed to vote for specific candidates after exposure to television broadcasts.

Abstract:
A novel gel-casting method has been developed from general slurry tape casting technique to prepare electrolyte films and bi-layers of electrolyte and anode. This method permits to fabricate electrolyte layer as thin as 10–30 microns after sintering. In the study, a factorial experiment design was performed on the quantities of the gelling agent and the binders for the gel casting of electrolyte thin films and fuel cell bi-layers. The quality of the green films was assessed to determine the optimal amount of the gelling agent and the binders. The films were sintered at different temperatures from 1200°C to 1450°C to test the sinterability of the films. The sintering were also performed with impregnation of Bi(NO3)3 resulting in a great improvement in densification at lower temperature.

Abstract:
Photocatalytic reduction of contaminants in wastewater or polluted water can be enhanced by finding a suitable catalyst with property that utilizes an extended light adsorption spectrum, reducing the recombination of electron-hole pairs, and casting the catalyst into a form with large surface-to-volume ratio to be in contact with the contaminants. Based on these objectives, Zn-doped TiO2 nanoparticles with high photocatalytic activity were synthesized by the sol–gel assisted nozzle-less electrospinning technique followed by calcining the precursor Ti(OiPr)4/ZnAc/PVP nanofibers in air in the temperature range of 450–650°. The thermal decomposition behavior was studied by thermogravimetric analyser and differential scanning calorimeter (TGA–DSC), and the morphology and crystal structure were monitored by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). With the different concentration of zinc acetate in the precursor solution, the diameter of fibers ranged from 80–130 nm. The photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B dye under visible light irradiation was also studied. It is found that the photosensitized degradation activity can be optimized by doping an appropriate amount of Zn (0.30 wt. %). Hence, the enhanced photodegradation of dyes with a new photocatalyst nanofiber under visible irradiation can be realized, which can take better use of solar energy.
