Abstract:

Abstract:
Generational Attitude measures the level of acceptance or non-acceptance of gay men in the community as perceived by them. This study's primary purpose is to determine the generational attitude of gays in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines. A quantitative research method was employed using a self-constructed questionnaire. Percentages, Weighted Mean, Chi-Square Test, ANOVA, and Spearman Rank Correlation were used to analyze the data collected. Overall results showed that the gay respondents' level of attitude yielded a Moderate Level of Acceptance. As a result of the survey's analysis, gay respondents think and believe that non-gays treat them appropriately. They feel that they are respected and accepted for their gay rights. The data revealed that there was a moderate level of acceptance of gay marriage. The findings of the study would form a basis for the intervention program. Moreover, the study lacked respondents who were not members of the LGBTQIA+ Community Tagbilaran. Additional research among gays who came out publicly but are not members of the LGBTQIA+ Community Tagbilaran must be conducted to validate the result of this study.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Drawing on work with a Malawian LGBTI-rights nongovernmental organization (NGO), this article’s entry point is the “fake gay,” a person who, according to state political discourse and news media, allegedly fakes a marginalized sexual identity to gain access to foreign resources channeled through NGOs. For LGBTI-identified persons in the NGO’s orbit, meanwhile, fake gays—infiltrating inauthentic gays—breed fear and resentment amid circuits of scarce resource distribution and homophobia. This mythologized figure, rooted in racialized arbitrations of fake or real, sincere or cunning, reveals NGOs, dismissed in critical scholarship as “unqueer”—for spreading homonationalism, sapping radical agendas by institutionalizing liberal human rights frameworks, and smuggling in Euro-American logics of sexual modernity—to be unlikely sites of queer complexity. Reading NGO spaces as customary forms and drawing on discourse analysis and ethnographic vignettes, the author shows how ritualized practices associated with audit culture in aid economies (monitoring and evaluation, paperwork, counting) operate as queer sites of multiplying possibilities and emergences. Rather than expose faking as duplicity or insincerity, the author argues that faking and normalizing practices rooted in logics of standardization, quantification, and replicability are co-constitutive. In addition to proposing the fake gay as a mode of theory that draws attention to (queer) world-making practices within postcolonial aid geographies, this article broadens understandings of the (queer) customary beyond narrowly defined cultural practices such as customs, rituals, and traditions.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper draws on linguistic-ethnographic fieldwork in Chengdu, China to consider the utility of broad labels such as Chinese, Western and gay in accounting for the performance of sexual and cultural identity. I problematise work which takes such notions to be stable and self-evidently referential, arguing instead that identity is much more fluid, emergent and discourse-dependent than conventional understandings tend to imply. I focus on visibility of queer sexual identity partly because it is an especially accessible example of the role of language in identity performance, being most often achieved through verbal interaction. More broadly, however, this focus emerged through my ethnographically informed, discursive-sociocultural approach to my life and research in mainland China during the period 2008–2019. Specifically, I use spoken data from the interviews which formed part of this process to argue that social practice within related ethnic and/or social groups is best understood in terms of the situated use of sociolinguistic tools and the entailed negotiation of pertinent ideological systems. From this perspective, the ostensibly insurmountable ideological pressures that “Chinese gays” are typically seen to face, and which tend to be attributed to a taken-for-granted and monolithic “Chinese culture”, are better interpreted with reference to the complex relationship between language, culture and identity. Thus, I do not assume the right to make broad claims about what Chinese gays do, or to state that they are categorically different from their presumed homogenous Western counterparts. Instead, I discuss what certain individuals say in certain conversations, noting how their performance of identity is often highly individualised, being shaped according to the interactants present and the interactional aims relevant to specific moments of communication.

Abstract:
Older gays and lesbians are one of the most invisible social groups as they experience “double invisibility”: in Western societies that celebrate youth, they are invisible as older and as older homosexuals. Existing research shows a different structure of social networks of older gays and lesbians compared to older heterosexuals, it points to fears of discrimination in care activities and feelings of exclusion from the LGBT community, which, like society at large, is defined by youth. This exploratory study for Slovenia identifies similar trends, with the key problem being the tension between an individual's stigmatized homosexual identity, which the elderly still mostly hide, and the LGBT community, which is not inclusive for older gays and lesbians. The purpose of the research was to identify key characteristics of everyday life of older gays and lesbians in the period before the existence of activism in Slovenia and the characteristics of the current position of older gays and lesbians in the LGBTIQ + community and society at large.

This study focuses on the depiction of homosexuality in American films. It is intended to identify the images of gays depicted in American films as well as the characteristics of American gay movies. It incorporates library research by applying an analytical descriptive approach in analyzing the data. The symbol and reflective theory is used to analyze 18 American movies and 14 gay films from other countries in the early 2000s. It shows that gay films can attract audiences by describing gays as the objects for laughs; gays revealing their sexual identities; sexual scenes of gays; masculine gay men; and violence in gay life. They appear in genres like drama, comedy, romance, detective, western, and horror/mystery with two images of gay people shown in American gay movies; they are the portrait of gays as a minority and the pessimism. However, it also shows that some American gay films picture good gay life, happy gay couples, gay marriage, etc.

Abstract:
Culturally the gay phenomenon has existed in the historical record of culture in Indonesia. The spread of gays in the country will continue to grow, not even closing the possibility of venturing into sharia circles, including Aceh. The existence of gay people in Langsa city caused a variety of strong reactions in the community. The phenomena ultimately force gays to camouflage in people's lives with conformity that is played slickly and massively. This research is intended to obtain answers about gay conformity in interacting in the sharia earth of Langsa City. Using qualitative descriptive measures, it was found that most gays in Langsa City always strive to demonstrate gender conformity to hide their true identity from the wider community. This is done to realize a sense of security and as a existed self-protection against discriminate people of Langsa City who uphold the values of Islamic sharia. So that with the gender conformity carried out by gays in Langsa city will create a calm because gays will feel protected from all prejudices and suspicions of the community.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract This article examines the analogy between gays and Jews in John Boswell’s scholarship in order to analyze the role of Jewishness in the construction of the field of history of sexuality. Boswell argues that Jews and gays have a similar social status throughout history until contemporary times, when gays continue to struggle while Jews have found a measure of social acceptance. The difference between them, according to Boswell, is that Jews pass down survival knowledge from within Jewish families, while gays are not generally born into gay families. While critiquing the sexual, racialized, and gendered politics of Boswell’s analogy, this article will argue that the current antitrans political moment requires us to return to the fundamental questions that Boswell poses about the relationship between history, the historian, intergenerational knowledge transmission, and communal survival.
