Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract:
This article consists of four sections. Firstly, it reflects on the public debate regarding Jesus' alleged illegitimacy. The article argues that illegitimacy here refers to fatherlessness. Secondly, Joseph is focused on. According to New Testament writings of the latter part of the first century, Joseph is either Jesus' biological father (John's gospel) or the person who adopted him as son (the gospels of Matthew and Luke). Thirdly, Joseph as a legendary literary model is discussed (in the Old Testament, intertestamentary literature, the New Testament, writings of the Church Fathers and the dogtrines of the Orthodox Church). Fourthly, the articles sketches a picture of a fatherless Jesus based on evidence from the earliest intracanonical writings (the Sayings Gospel Q, traditions in the Gospel of Thomas, Paul's letters and the Gospel of Mark). Joseph does not appear in these writings. The article concludes with a reflection on the relevance of fatherlessness for today.

Abstract:
Background Aquatic subterranean species often exhibit disjunct distributions, with high level of endemism and small range, shaped by vicariance, limited dispersal, and evolutionary rates. We studied the disjunct biogeographic patterns of an endangered blind cave shrimp, Typhlocaris, and identified the geological and evolutionary processes that have shaped its divergence pattern. Methods We collected Typlocaris specimens of three species (T. galilea, T. ayyaloni, and T. salentina), originating from subterranean groundwater caves by the Mediterranean Sea, and used three mitochondrial genes (12S, 16S, cytochrome oxygnese subunit 1 (COI)) and four nuclear genes (18S, 28S, internal transcribed spacer, Histon 3) to infer their phylogenetic relationships. Using the radiometric dating of a geological formation (Bira) as a calibration node, we estimated the divergence times of the Typhlocaris species and the molecular evolution rates. Results The multi-locus ML/Bayesian trees of the concatenated seven gene sequences showed that T. salentina (Italy) and T. ayyaloni (Israel) are sister species, both sister to T. galilea (Israel). The divergence time of T. ayyaloni and T. salentina from T. galilea was 7.0 Ma based on Bira calibration. The divergence time of T. ayyaloni from T. salentina was 5.7 (4.4–6.9) Ma according to COI, and 5.8 (3.5–7.2) Ma according to 16S. The computed interspecific evolutionary rates were 0.0077 substitutions/Myr for COI, and 0.0046 substitutions/Myr for 16S. Discussion Two consecutive vicariant events have shaped the phylogeographic patterns of Typhlocaris species. First, T. galilea was tectonically isolated from its siblings in the Mediterranean Sea by the arching uplift of the central mountain range of Israel ca. seven Ma. Secondly, T. ayyaloni and T. salentina were stranded and separated by a marine transgression ca. six Ma, occurring just before the Messinian Salinity Crisis. Our estimated molecular evolution rates were in one order of magnitude lower than the rates of closely related crustaceans, as well as of other stygobiont species. We suggest that this slow evolution reflects the ecological conditions prevailing in the highly isolated subterranean water bodies inhabited by Typhlocaris.

This research reports the imagery representation of the Moon in the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception with Saints and Angels (1611) by Domenico Cresti (Passignano). Our goal is to defend this image as a telescopic representation of the Galilean Moon, that is, a cratered Moon as presented by Galileo Galilei in his work Sidereus nuncius (1610). Passignano was a friend of the artist Lodovico Cardi (Cigoli) who corresponded with Galileo and exchanged information on telescopic observations. This relationship between the artists and Galileo reinforces the possibility that the two painters had represented cratered the moons. The research consists of bibliographical and imaginary research and, at the end, the Moon of Passignano as the first representation of a Galilean Moon inside a Church.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Galileo Galilei supported Nicolaus Copernicus astronomic theory, from which the former has attracted philosophical as well theological consequences. The celestial discoveries made possible with the usage of spyglasses allowed Galileo to challenge some of the aristotelic principles of cosmology and to break up the limits imposed to astronomy as hypothetical discipline which would aim just to "save the phenomena".

The present work aims to analyze the development of the notion of inertia in Galileo, dealing, therefore, with a investigation that goes back to historical origins to then carry out philosophical analysis. In this way, it seeks out to understand the Aristotelian conceptions concerning movement, which are indispensable so that we can reflect about the relationship between movement and causality. In the sequence, one looks for to present the main thinkers later to Aristotle whose ideas contributed for the scientific development that made possible the Copernican revolution and, consequently, the Galilean conception of inertia. We analyze the main writings of Galileo, namely the Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems and the Discorsi, works in which the Italian researcher develops more accurately his vision concerning the inertial movement. Lastly, it presents a contemporary discussion on the subject, namely whether Galileo would have defended a linear or a conception of circular inertia.

Abstract Background: Action-research in schools in Arab Israeli Galilee, aimed at exploring the context of a high drop out rate. To the extend that teachers and families are enabled to jointly expose the problem and to participate actively as part of the solution, the desired results can be expected. Methods: T-Lab content analysis. Focus group. Individual and group interview. Mapping of context. Results: The relationship between families and schools was found to be the main cause of drop out, and cooperation between them was found to be the solution. The dropout rate was lowered significantly. Conclusions: The lack of a sense of community and belonging in the schools, cause the loss of prestige of the institution and of teachers, resulting in an accusatory attitude between students, families and teachers. Furthermore, we emphasize the need to involve mothers to actively participate in the schools on an ongoing basis.

Abstract:
The RTS-1 “Galileo Galilei” is an open pool research reactor with light water as moderator and coolant, it has a nominal power of 5 MWth and an average thermal flux of 5 E+13 n/cm2sec. It went critical for the first time on April 1963 and it was definitively shutdown in March 1980. The reactor is situated at CISAM (Joint Centre of Studies for Military Application - Italian Ministry of Defence), S. Piero a Grado, Pisa, Italy, and its decommissioning is in progress. In this paper the preliminary activities necessary to eliminate the most part of radioactive materials present into the plant are described. Emphasis is placed on the description of the “Irradiation Channel” facility, used to manage safely all the activated materials to be conditioned and on the MASCOT robot, used in the channel. All the conditioning devices to be used are described with particular consideration to the cleanness of the cutting process and the radiological risk due to the operations. The first cutting and conditioning operation carried on in the Galilei Reactor is described. This operation regards the conditioning of some experimental equipments used during the reactor life, with particular attention to the radiation protection of the personnel and to the control of radioactive emission.

Abstract:
My story is a tale of extremes. Extreme artificial structures that we have built on and around planet Earth. Extreme natural structures that exist in our Universe, and extreme structures in our mind, when we try to understand how this all works. Of all the possible artificial structures, consider telescopes. The first one, invented by Johannes Lipperhey of Zeeland, was soon copied by Galileo Galilei, which dramatically changed our understanding of the Universe. The object itself did not look very dramatic, but its human impact was extreme. Currently, engineers in Chile are building the European Extremely Large Telescope, which will contain a segmented mirror with a total diameter of 39 meters. The building of this extreme instrument could more than cover the full grounds of the original Leiden Observatory, which is the oldest still operating observatory in the world.

Abstract:
For many years American GPS and Russian GLONNAS were the leading navigation systems widely used for navigation purposes. In recent years two new navigational systems have been developed. These systems are the European Galileo system and the Chinese BeiDou System. The full operability of both systems is foreseen for 2020. The full Galileo constellation will consist of 30 Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellites. In this paper the GPS and Galileo combination is used to obtain precise positions using the MAFA method. Results from GPS only and GPS+Galileo positioning are presented. In the test 11 Galileo satellites were used. The number of visible GPS satellites during the test was between 8 and 12. For Galileo the number of visible satellites was between 2 to 4, with 4 satellites visible for most of the day. Adding Galileo satellites to GPS reduces the PDOP factor value and improves the DGNSS and RTK results.
