My lady, in composing this little book, I remembered that you bear the name of monseigneur Saint Louis, your ancestor, … and that I once composed a short treatise about him, in order to respond to those who wanted to ruin his good reputation by saying that in his time he destroyed the kingdom of France because of the two expeditions he made overseas, wishing to recover the Holy Land, and that he had been constrained to have leather money made and to impose sales taxes (gabelles) in this kingdom, which is not true, saving their reverence, as will be shown below.

Abstract We consider, in the setting of convex metric spaces, a new class of Kannan type cyclic orbital contractions, and study the existence of its best proximity points. The same problem is then discussed for relatively Kannan nonexpansive mappings, by using the concept of proximal quasi-normal structure. In this way, we extend the main results in Abkar and Gabeleh [A. Abkar and M. Gabeleh, J. Nonlin. Convex Anal. 14 (2013), 653-659].

In this paper, we introduce a semi-cyclic Berinde contraction pair on a metric space which is more general than that of semi-cyclic contraction pair defined by Gabeleh and Abkar [Gabeleh, M. and Abkar, A., Best proximity points for semi-cyclic contractive pairs in Banach spaces, Int. Math. Forum, 6 (2011), 2179–2186] and prove an existence result concerning global monomization of best proximity points of this pair. Our main result can be used to obtain a common fixed point theorem of some contractive mappings related to Berinde’s contractions without commutative assumption. An example supporting our main result is also given.

L'historiographie occidentale s'est tôt intéressée à l'histoire du sel en Chine, non seulement par souci d'exotisme, par curiosité pour un monde lointain qu'elle découvrait avec la même surprise que le Vénitien Marco Polo à la fin du XIIIe siècle, mais aussi parce que le sel fut activement mis au service de la politique financière de l'État impérial comme dans tous les systèmes fiscaux qui faisaient largement recours à la gabelle sur ce produit , avant qu'il ne soit placé au service des politiques impérialistes de l'Occident européen ou américain à partir du milieu du XIXe siècle.

Weather radar is an active remote sensing instrument for various hydrological and meteorological applications. One advantage of weather radar is its ability to detect rainfall in space and time with high spatial resolution. However, one of the issues that contaminate radar observations is ground clutter. Ground clutter is a signal or echo from non-meteorological objects on the earth’s surface that are stationary in the time domain. Detecting and mitigating clutter effects is crucial to achieve precise weather measurements. This research aims to implement the Gabella and random forest methods to detect ground clutter in Padang weather radar data and determine the optimal method between the two. The implementation of the Gabella method for detecting ground clutter in Padang weather radar data was suboptimal. This was due to the most duplicated data at the same point being only 15.97% of the total data. Meanwhile the random forest method obtained a kappa value of 92.03%. This indicates that the random forest model created using 2000 trees as the parameter performs well. Based on these results, the random forest method identified as the most optimal approach for detecting ground clutter in Padang weather radar data.

La juridiction des gabelles en Languedoc est créée en 1411 et remodelée à la fin du XVIe siècle. Trois sièges sont répartis en Languedoc, à Toulouse, Narbonne et Montpellier. Un triumvirat de juges sont à leur tête, des visiteurs et contrôleurs généraux des gabelles dont les compétences sont mixtes, tant administratives que fiscales. L'appel de leurs sentences ressort à la cour des comptes, aides et finances de Montpellier. Créées dans un objectif d'efficacité, c'est une juridiction extraordinaire de l'impôt indirect sur le sel, dans une province assujettie au régime de la petite gabelle. Juridiction hybride, composée d'officiers royaux "moyens" et financée par la ferme générale, elle pâtit du mépris des juges ordinaires envers cette administration fiscale. Le contentieux généré par la gabelle est l'enjeu de maints conflits de compétence entre la visitation des gabelles et les tribunaux ordinaires menés par le parlement de Toulouse, dont le roi se fera l'arbitre. La juridiction souffre également de la concurrence des intendants et commissions extraordinaires du conseil, cependant son activité reste constante jusqu'à la fin de l'Ancien Régime, avant d'être balayée par les bouleversements révolutionnaires
The salt tax tribunal in Languedoc was created in 1411 and restructured at the end of the 16th century. Three courts were spread throughout Languedoc in the cities of Narbonne, Toulouse and Montpellier. Salt tax inspectors and controllers made up a triumvirate of judges with differing administrative and fiscal competences. Appeals against their sentences were made to the Court of Accounts, Aid and Finance in Montpellier. The tribunal was created in the interest of efficiency and was an extraordinary court of indirect salt tax in a region subject to the small salt tax regime. It was a hybrid tribunal made up of middling royal officers and financed by the General Farm ; as such it was disregarded as a fiscal administration by other judges. The debate generated by salt tax was the cause of numerous demarcation disputes between the salt tax visitations and the ordinary courts in Toulouse over which the King presided. The tribunal also suffered from competition from the intendants and extraordinary council commissions but continued its activity up until the end of the Ancient Regime before being swept away by revolutionary upheaval

En 1561, l'Etat savoyard a entrepris un dénombrement exhaustif de sa population afin de contrôler la gabelle du sel. Le recensement des familles, par paroisses voire par lieux-dits, comprend les nom, avant-prénom, prénom et surnom de chaque chef de feu, son métier éventuel, l'identité de chaque membre de sa famille, la qualité de solvable ou de misérable et la constitution du cheptel familial. Nous avons dépouillé intégralement un corpus de 85 communes soit plus de 80000 personnes représentant près de 16000 familles. Cette importante base de données donne lieu à différentes analyses thématiques : structures familiales, anthroponymie, toponymie, paupérisme, élevage, activité économique, flux de populations, encadrements administratifs et religieux, etc. L'outil informatique a été largement utilisé pour effectuer des statistiques et des analyses cartographiques. Cette thèse met en évidence quelques villes qui sont des pôles socio-économiques dans une société globalement très pauvre, surpeuplée, où l'encrage territorial des familles ne génère pas d'exode rural malgré une atomisation de celles-ci en foyers nucléaires. La coexistence des structures châtelaines et des communautés d'habitants témoigne d'un siècle de transition où la montée en puissance des syndics s'oppose à la décadence des châtelains. Quant à l'encadrement religieux, sa présence est bien aléatoire, mais nombreux sont les indices d'une société profondément catholique. The state of Savoy undertook an exhaustive census of its population in 1561 in order to control the Salt Tax (also called "Gabelle"). The couting of families in each parish or even locality implied the registration of the name, forename and nickname of each family head, his activity, the identity of each member of his family, his financial status and the composition of the family livestock. We have studied in detail the corpus of 85 villages, which represents more than 80 000 people and about 16 000 families. This huge data base allows us to carry out several thematic analysis such as family strcture, anthroponomy, toponomy, pauperism, cattle breeding, economic activities, movements of population, administrative and religious frames. . . The calculating of statistics and the cartographic analysis have been largely undertaken on a computer-aided basis. This thesis brings out a few towns that were important poles of social and economic development in a society which was on the whole very poor, overpopulated and in which the strong geographical roots of the families didn't produce any drift from the land although they were scattered in nuclear households. The coexistence of squirearchy and groups of inhabitants shows how much of the transition period that was, a century when the ever-growing power of syndics was opposed to the decadence of squires. As far as the power of religion is concerned, we can say that its presence was not always secured but several clues hint at the fact that the society was deeply catholic. Les formes gothiques du Palais des doges de Venise se mettent en place à partir de 1340 et les travaux se poursuivent sans solution de continuité durant les derniers siècles du Moyen Âge et pendant toute la Renaissance. L’édifice acquiert ses formes actuelles vers 1625 et n’a depuis plus connu que des chantiers de restaurations. Cette thèse en histoire de l’architecture analyse la phase conclusive de ce processus constructif afin de comprendre comment et pourquoi à partir de 1595 ce grand chantier s’achève. Les dynamiques de financement des travaux publics à Venise sont dans un premier temps inscrites dans une perspective de longue durée analysant le rôle de l’Office du sel dans l’amortissement de la dette publique entre le Moyen Âge et l’époque moderne. Cette étude permet de reparcourir à l’aide de la bibliographie disponible les principales étapes de construction du Palais des doges et de reprendre sur le plan financier l’étude de quelques grands chantiers vénitiens de la fin du XVIe siècle tels que la construction du pont du Rialto ou de l’église du Rédempteur. L’analyse du rôle institutionnel de l’Office du sel est dans une seconde partie confrontée à la conjoncture politique que traverse la République de Venise au moment de la crise de l’Interdit. Des recherches biographiques portant sur la commande publique et privée des différents doges qui se succèdent entre 1595 et 1625 sont développées avec un intérêt particulier pour les représentants respectifs des vecchi favorables au pape et de leurs antagonistes, les giovani, Marino Grimani et Leonardo Donà. Des recherches dans des archives de la République et de la famille ont également été accordées au parcours exceptionnel d’Antonio Priuli entre Padoue et Paris. Il conduit en effet tant que Réviseur de tous les lieux de la cour du Palais des doges de 1601 à 1614 les transformations de l’édifice puis relance les travaux lorsqu’il monte sur le trône ducal entre 1618 et sa mort en 1624. Pendant toute cette période, le charpentier Bartolomeo Manopola dirige le chantier en tant que proto de l’Office du sel. Une analyse détaillée est accordée à l’organisation de son entreprise familiale de construction associant tailleurs de pierres, charpentiers et maçons. Les relations entre la fabrique publique et des personnages de premier plan tels que le tailleur de pierre Giovanni Grapiglia, l’architecte Vincenzo Scamozzi ou le marchand d’art Daniel Nijs sont également développées en croisant une analyse des réseaux des commanditaires, des détails de l’architecture et de la comptabilité du chantier. Cette micro-histoire de l’infrastructure productive du chantier sert de support à une analyse de la suprastructure, c’est-à-dire des transformations architecturales que connaît le Palais des doges entre 1595 et 1625.Après avoir interprété à la lumière des rapports de force internes au chantier le programme fonctionnel qui se définit progressivement pour les salles réaménagées au rez-de-chaussée de l’édifice et dans les loges, les représentations du pouvoir sur la façade dite de l’horloge et dans la nouvelle salles des banquets sont analysées en regard de la situation politique qui se dégrade avec la guerre de Gradisca et devient explosive au moment de l’avènement d’Antonio Priuli en 1618 avec la conjuration Bedmar. Un chapitre d’ouverture replaçant le processus de modernisation du Palais des doges dans les cycles de transformation que connaissent à la même époque les autres sièges du pouvoir vénitien dans les villes du Stato da Terra et da Mar permet enfin de saisir la fonction politique qu’assume projet d’architecture dans une République. Le palais public sont des représentations du pouvoir sophistiquées dont les processus de transformations matérielles servent de support à de complexes négociations permettant de dépasser des moments de crises politiques
The gothic Venice Ducal Palace was realized for 1340 but all the last centuries of Middle Ages long and for whole Renaissance, works have gone ahead seamless. Around 1625, the building reach its actual design and till this moment, only restoration works have been realized. This PhD tesis in architecture history studies the conclusive moment of this building process in order to understand why and how for 1595 so big a building site achieves. Financing dynamics of public works in Venice are first of all inserted within a long term analysis from the amortization of public debt between Middle Ages and Modern times. Such a study consent to pass in review thanks to available publications the main steps of the Ducal Palace building and to advocate a financial study of some of the major public buildings in Venice late XVIth century such as Rialto bridge or Redentore church.This study on the institutional functions of the Salt Office is in a second moment addressed to a specific political moment for the Venice Republic, the Interdetto crisis. A series of biographic researches about public and private commissions of several doges on power from 1595 to 1625 is developed, focusing on the respective leaders from the pro papalist vecchi and their opponents, the giovani patricians, Marino Grimani and Leonardo Donà. Specific research on public records and family archives are also dedicated to the exceptional journey from Padua to Paris of Antonio Priuli. Indeed, as Surveyor from all the Ducal palace places, he is responsible for the transformation of this building between 1601 and 1614. Then, he relaunches the works when arriving on power from 1618 till his death in 1624. During all this time long, the carpenter Bartolomeo Manopola conducts the works as Salt office proto. A detailed study is realized on his family building firm associating stone carvers, carpenters and masons. The relationships between public building and important figures from the time such as the stone carver Giovanni Grapiglia, the architect Vincenzo Scamozzi and the art seller Daniel Nijs are also developed associating a study on the commissioners network, architecture details and building site accounts. Such a micro-historic approach from the productive structure of the building site is the base for an analysis from the superstructure, ie for a survey on the Ducal palace architecture transformations from 1595 to 1625.Internal conflicts enable an interpretation of the functional program for the room gradually arranged on the ground floor on the building and inside the lodges. The powers representations shaped on on the clock facade and inside the new banqueting room are then analyzed through a political length, considering the difficult situation resulting from the Gradisca war and the hot moment of the Bedmar plot in 1618, just when Antonio Priuli finally became doge. An opening chapter concludes the tesis putting the Ducal palace transformations within the current transformation cycles of the other headquarters of the Venitian power in Main Land and Sea Land main towns. The aim is to catch the political function from architecture design process in a Republic. Public palaces are sophisticated representations from power. Theirs material transformations are as a consequence the tools from complex negotiations in grade of overall political crisis moments

Masaniello also pulls off raids on the street of the sword-smiths and at the dwellings of noble Ferrante Caracciolo, to arm the troops of the populace to secure the food supply. Meanwhile, fires sprout, targeting those who had battened off the gabella, or who had rallied support to vote the hated taxes in.

La sal ha sido un artículo de vital necesidad en las distintas épocas de la historia universal. Elemento esencial en cualquier dieta que incluya productos animales, también ha sido ampliamente usada como preservante de los alimentos e inclusive se empleó en las momificaciones egipcias. En los inicios de la industrialización en América fue un elemento básico, ya que era utilizada en la amalgamación de la plata, en los obrajes, las curtiembres y la producción agroindustrial. Estas necesidades básicas concedieron a la persona o instituciones que tenían el control de la sal un poder más de orden político que de orden económico. A lo largo de toda la historia podemos advertir la importancia de su control y distribución: en la época griega se crea «el salario», posteriormente tenemos las grandes rebeliones del siglo XVI relacionadas con la sal. Por ejemplo, en Francia se producen rebeliones por las gabelles, de donde deriva la palabra «gabela»; del mismo modo, en España se suscita la rebelión del conde duque de Olivares contra los vascos. En tiempos más recientes, tenemos la gran marcha de la sal de Ghandi, que inicia las luchas por la independencia de la India en el siglo XX. Hay que notar, en relación con esto último, que fue costumbre del sistema colonial inglés tener el monopolio de la manufactura de la sal, incluida su recolección en las playas públicas, lo que se realizó en sus dominios hasta el siglo XIX.
