Caballero, Rubén. "FLIGHT TEST INSTRUMENTATION OF THE PUSH-PULL EFFECT ON A CF-18 AIRCRAFT." International Foundation for Telemetering, 1999. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/608524.
Full textDuring high performance fighter aircraft manoeuvres, a fighter pilot may be exposed to a physiological phenomenon known as the “Push-Pull Effect” (reference (ref) [1]). This effect will alter the pilot’s homeostasis whereas blood flow to the brain will be increased during low negative normal acceleration (-Gz) and suddenly decreased during positive normal acceleration (+Gz). It has been hypothesized that this effect can lessen the Gtolerance of the human body thereby making the subject more susceptible to G induced Loss of Consciousness (G-LOC) (refs [2], [3] and [4]). G-LOC is not a desirable state for a pilot in a high performance aircraft such as a CF-18. To better understand and study the Push-Pull Effect on a fighter pilot, the Aerospace Engineering Test Establishment (AETE) and the Defence and Civil Institute of Environmental Medicine (DCIEM) produced an In-Flight Research (IFR) Program sponsored by the Canadian Forces (CF). The aim of this program was to measure the physiological response of relaxed test subjects, unprotected by a G-suit, when exposed to the Push-Pull manoeuvre in flight. This IFR would validate the centrifuge data and confirm that the Push-Pull Effect can occur in flight. This paper will present the instrumentation, design, telemetry system and installation methodology utilized to perform experimental physiological research on a high performance, ejection seat equipped fighter aircraft (CF-18). Also, preliminary results on the Push-Pull Effect, obtained through this IFR Program will be presented.

A low-frequency, low-g piezoelectric MEMS energy harvester has been designed. Theoretically, this new generation energy harvester will generate electric power from ambient vibrations in the frequency range of 200~30OHz at excitation amplitude of 0.5g. Our previous energy harvester successfully resolved the gain-bandwidth dilemma and increased the bandwidth two orders of magnitude. By utilizing a doubly clamed beam resonator, the stretching strain triggered at large deflection stiffens the beam and transforms the dynamics to nonlinear regime, and increases the bandwidth. However, the high resonance frequency (1.3kHz) and the high-g acceleration requirement (4-5g) shown in the testing experiments limited the applications of this technology. To improve the performance of the current energy harvesters by lowering the operating frequency and excitation level, different designs have been generated and investigated. Moreover, a design framework has been formulated to improve the design in a systematic way with higher accuracy. Based on this design framework, parameter optimization has been carried out, and a quantitative design with enhanced performance has been proposed. Preliminary work on fabrication and testing setup has been done to prepare for the future experimental verification of the new design.

Nitrides, carbides, borides and oxides of transition metals in the form of nanoparticles have received in recent years the attention in the scientific world, by their specific physical and chemical properties, with direct applications to the high technology industry. This thesis was motivated by the development and experimental evaluation of a new reactor concept, tubular and cross-flow, which promotes better contact between the gas-phase reactants, allowing the execution of nanoparticle synthesis at lower temperatures. The reactor consists of a quartz tube and a gas supply system (NH3), equipped with baffles that redirects the gas promoting a more homogeneous distribution of it in the holes that feed the reactor. The TiCl4 vaporized is carried by argon gas, in the axial direction, to the reactor and NH3 is injected in the radial direction in the central region of the reactor. In the experimental apparatus developed were evaluated the effects of process variables, temperature, space time and TiCl4 partial pressure, on average crystallite size of the synthesized particles. The experimental results obtained show that in the proposed reactor was possible to produce, at room temperature, titanium nitride with 100% conversion and crystallite size below 20nm. Besides the production of the titanium nitride was also observed the formation of a particulate co- product, the ammonium chloride (NH4Cl). In the X-ray diffraction analyzes was observed the presence of titanium dioxide (anatase) and titanium oxynitride. The occurrence of these phases can be explained by the high reactivity of titanium nitride with oxygen and water vapor present in the atmosphere and their high specific surface.

Full textSince the success of the song "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee, the urban reggaeton genre has been gaining more presence in Spanish-speaking countries. Just as this musical genre has become internationally popular, various movements have arisen in favor of gender equality and the defense of women's rights, and at the same time new reggaeton singers appeared who excelled in showing female empowerment both in the lyrics of the songs as in the music video clips. Therefore, this work is an audiovisual narrative analysis of Karol G's reggaeton video clips between 2017 and 2019 from a gender perspective to explain the representation of women in video clips as audiovisual and advertising products with high musical diffusion. From an interpretative paradigm and a qualitative approach, a case study is proposed applied to the artist's six most viewed video clips on YouTube released between 2017 and 2019. It is proposed to analyze three categories related to narrative and art direction from an approach of gender; character profile, actions and context.
