Abstract:
The performance of two kinds of functional polymers were evaluated by lab experiments. Furthermore, relationship between viscosity and concentration, viscosity stability, flow characteristics of two kinds of functional polymers are studied. The results show that two functional polymers have a higher viscosity at different concentrations. The viscosity of functional polymer increases with the time. Flow characteristics show that functional polymers have a higher drag coefficient and residual resistance factor. Meanwhile, we conducted displacement efficiency experiments and expand swept volume experiments. The studies show that two kinds of functional polymer provide significant improvement in displacement efficiency, and after conventional polymer flooding, it also can expand swept volume of low permeability layers effectively.

Abstract:
PurposeThe major marine functional zoning plan (MMFZP) and marine functional zoning (MFZ) are two important kinds of marine spatial planning (MSP) in China. Their developing and implementation are integral to rational marine utilization and sustainable marine development. The purpose of this research is to study how these two kinds of MSP work in coordination in China.Design/methodology/approachThis paper reviewed the present status of MSP research in China and abroad and presented a comparative study of the MMFZP and MFZ from different aspects, analyzing the relationship between the two.FindingsThe study found obvious differences between the MMFZP and MFZ, with respect to their concept and connotation, purpose and goal, as well as zoning methods and zoning functions. MFZ provides reference with respect to data, zoning methods and partial zoning results for the MMFZP, which in turn takes measures for addressing issues faced by MFZ and promotes the national MSP work.Originality/valueIn the process of developing and implementing the two zoning plans, this paper emphasizes the necessity to strengthen data sharing, reference of zoning techniques and coordination in zoning work, which will help to improve China's marine spatial management.

Two kinds of chemical functional single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) are covalently coupled into special V-type superstructure by the esterification in pyridine medium. Both SWNTs bundles and individual SWNTs can be bound effectively through the deacidification path. The esterification between different kinds of modified SWNTs takes place on their ends and the crystallinity of SWNTs are well remained during the course. Interestingly, the inclinations between coupled SWNTs are very closely to the ester bond angle (109o18’). Furthermore, the formation mechanism about the peculiar structure has been proposed in the paper. The results suggest that selected connection bonds will determine the different angles of coupled SWNTs.

Abstract:
This review provides insight into consumer attitudes toward functional food (FF), with the purpose of better understanding the needs and behavior regarding this kind of product. A total of 47 articles were selected for this paper. The available studies from last 20 years differ according to the focus (awareness, attitudes, motivations, willingness, acceptance by consumers) and methodologies used. Several factors, including socio-demographic, cognitive and attitudinal ones, seem to be serve as the basis for the acceptance of functional products. The research papers showed that nutritional knowledge is the most important of these. Older people are more interested in functional products than younger consumers, because of their stronger belief in the health benefits of FF. Moreover, women are more open to compromise between taste and health properties. Claims concerning the disease preventative properties of FF are the most attractive for consumers. This review focuses also on future perspectives for the functional food market. Adequate knowledge and evidence-based communication seem to be the most promising ways to increase consumers’ interest in these kinds of products.

Although GPS kinematic relative positioning can provide high accuracy, GPS observables, like any other kind of measurement, are not free of errors. Indeed, they have several kinds of errors. In this paper, we show how to construct a functional mathematical model within the context of a Kalman Filter in order to eliminate most of these errors. Furthermore, we discuss how the multipath effect, a kind of error not modeled in the functional model, can be corrected using the proposed wavelet method. The behavior of the double difference functional model in the kinematic mode is also demonstrated and analyzed aiming to provide better insight into the problem. The results obtained from the multipath experiments were very promising and are presented here.

Abstract:
This paper relies on the idea that syntactic change stems from linguistic factors that are different in nature and, consequently, trigger different results. Specifically, I distinguish the causes, processes and results related to two different kinds of syntactic change, a ‘formal’ type of change vs. a ‘functional’ one. The hypotheses pursued here are the following: (i) Mismatches between the formal features a learner has acquired and certain data she receives during the language acquisition period lead to a syntactic change type, which restructures completely the syntactic derivation involved; (ii) The advantage of parsing one variant over parsing another triggers a different kind of change, namely one that affects specific instances or uses / registers of the crucial syntactic structure. To illustrate this, I analyze the role of functional advantage and formal changes in the historical development of the case system of Russian non-verbal predication.

Abstract:
Abstract It is often indeterminate what function a given computational system computes. This phenomenon has been referred to as “computational indeterminacy” or “multiplicity of computations.” In this paper, we argue that what has typically been considered and referred to as the (unique) challenge of computational indeterminacy in fact subsumes two distinct phenomena, which are typically bundled together and should be teased apart. One kind of indeterminacy concerns a functional (or formal) characterization of the system’s relevant behavior (briefly: how its physical states are grouped together and corresponded to abstract states). Another kind concerns the manner in which the abstract (or computational) states are interpreted (briefly: what function the system computes). We discuss the similarities and differences between the two kinds of computational indeterminacy, their implications for certain accounts of “computational individuation” in the literature, and their relevance to different levels of description within the computational system. We also examine the inter-relationships between our proposed accounts of the two kinds of indeterminacy and the main accounts of “computational implementation.”

This paper deals with kinematic pairs in the most general sense, and, in particular, with those used in gear design. The paper begins with a brief overview of the earlier performed research in the field. Different kinds of kinematic pairs are distinguished, namely, point-contact kinematic pairs, line-contact kinematic pairs, and surface-to-surface-contact kinematic pairs. Contact geometry of functional surfaces in kinematic pairs is involved into the analysis aiming more in detail analysis of design, and the development of a scientific classification of kinematic pairs. A scientific classification of all possible kinds of kinematic pairs is developed. All known designs of kinematic pairs are covered by the classification. Moreover, kinematic pairs of all notknown yet designs are also covered by the classification. This means that the proposed classification of kinematic pairs possesses predictive properties.

Abstract:
It is a very important but difficult task to seek explicit variational formulations for nonlinear and complex models because variational principles are theoretical bases for many methods to solve or analyze the nonlinear problem. By designing skillfully the trial-Lagrange functional, different groups of variational principles are successfully constructed for two kinds of coupled nonlinear equations in shallow water, i.e., the Broer-Kaup equations and the (2+1)-dimensional dispersive long-wave equations, respectively. Both of them contain many kinds of soliton solutions, which are always symmetric or anti-symmetric in space. Subsequently, the obtained variational principles are proved to be correct by minimizing the functionals with the calculus of variations. The established variational principles are firstly discovered, which can help to study the symmetries and find conserved quantities for the equations considered, and might find lots of applications in numerical simulation.

Abstract:
Abstract On the one hand, Aristotle claims that the matter of a material thing is not part of its form. On the other hand, he suggests that the proper account of a natural thing must include a specification of the kind of matter in which it is realized. There are three possible strategies for dealing with this apparent tension. First, there may be two kinds of definition, so that the definition of the form of a thing does not include any specification of its matter, whereas the definition of a compound does. Second, the definition of a substance may not include a specification of its matter at all, but still reveal in what kinds of matter its form can be realized. Third, there may be a special kind of matter, functional matter, which belongs to the form of certain things. I will show that the functional matter of a thing does not belong to its form (in a strict sense of “form”), but that an adequate account of natural substances and their functions must nonetheless involve a reference to their functional matter. This means that the function of a natural thing is not the same as its form and that its adequate account as a natural thing is not a definition (in a strict sense of “form” and “definition”).

Abstract:
It is an assumption that different kinds of nutrition, diet, and functional foods might have different positive or negative effects on multiple sclerosis (MS), a neuroinflammatory disease of the central nervous system (CNS). This brief paper involved a study on various kinds of nutrition including salt, fat, dairy, fruit, and vegetables. At the end of this study, appropriate diets were evaluated for MS patients. Based on previous studies both on animal models and on MS patients, excessive dietary salt intake and animal fat had worsening effects on MS patients but fruit and vegetable intake helped the remission of MS and decreased the risk of developing it. There were, of course, conflicting results in different studies over the role of some nutrition in MS and future studies on larger numbers of cases were required to collect reliable results. As a result, at the end of this study and based on literature, it is suggested that a diet should be programmed by nutritionists containing fewer salt, fat, and dairy intake and more fruits and vegetables for MS patients in order to better management of the disease.

Abstract:
In this study, we investigate a mathematical model that describes the interactive dynamics of a predator-prey system with different kinds of response function. The positivity, boundedness, and uniform persistence of the system are established. We investigate the biologically feasible singular points and their stability analysis. We perform a comparative study by considering different kinds of functional responses, which suggest that the dynamical behavior of the system remains unaltered, but the position of the bifurcation points altered. Our model system undergoes Hopf bifurcation with respect to the growth rate of the prey population, which indicates that a periodic solution occurs around a fixed point. Also, we observed that our predator-prey system experiences transcritical bifurcation for the prey population growth rate. By using normal form theory and center manifold theorem, we investigate the direction and stability of Hopf bifurcation. The biological implications of the analytical and numerical findings are also discussed in this study.

Abstract:
Dual end and single end MacroRAFT agents of polystyrene were obtained respectively by polymerizations of styrene in the presence of benzyl 1H-imidazole-1- carbodithioate (BICDT) and 4,4‘-bis(imidazole-1-carbodithioatemethyl)biphenyl (ICTMP) via the thermal initiation. Then copolymerization of allyl glycidyl ether(AGE) with methyl acrylate(MA) was performed to prepare the functional block copolymers in the presence of PSt maeorRATF agents. The results show that the process has good characteristics of living free radical polymerization. However, the top monomer conversion of triblock copolymers comparing diblock copolymers is lower under the same theory molecular weight and the content of monomer.

Abstract:
In this paper we discuss the optimizing compilation of Constraint Handling Rules (CHRs). CHRs are a multi-headed committed choice constraint language, commonly applied for writing incremental constraint solvers. CHRs are usually implemented as a language extension that compiles to the underlying language. In this paper we show how we can use different kinds of information in the compilation of CHRs to obtain access efficiency, and a better translation of the CHR rules into the underlying language, which in this case is HAL. The kinds of information used include the types, modes, determinism, functional dependencies and symmetries of the CHR constraints. We also show how to analyze CHR programs to determine this information about functional dependencies, symmetries and other kinds of information supporting optimizations.

Abstract:
It is shown that a geometric optical description of the electromagnetic wave with respect to its polarization in a curved space-time can be obtained straightforwardly from the classical variational principle for the electromagnetic field. For this purpose the entire functional space of electromagnetic fields must be reduced to its subspace of locally plane monochromatic waves. We have formulated the constraints under which this can be achieved. These constraints introduce variables of another kind which specify a field of local frames associated with the wave. They contain some congruence with null-curves. The Lagrangian for constrained electromagnetic fields contains variables of two kinds, namely a congruence of null-curves and the field itself. This in turn yields two kinds of Euler- Lagrange equations. The equations of the first kind are trivial due to the constraints imposed. The variation of the curves yields the Papapetrou equations for a classical massless particle with helicity 1

Abstract:
A complex liberal version of utilitarianism is introduced which bears similarities to John Stuart Mill's moral and political philosophy and offers a promising approach to liberal democratic theory. Formally, liberal utilitarianism is represented as a type of generalized social welfare functional which maps any given set of individual vector-valued utility functions into a social ordering. The generalized social welfare functional in question relies on the experienced members of society to classify ond compare the different kinds of utilities found in individual vectors; to grant and protect libertarian rights with respect to a well-defined private kind of individual utilities; and to make the interpersonal comparisons required to aggregate over each of the public kinds of individual utilities. At the same time, it is dynamic in that it implicitly comprehends many different levels of a society's moral development from a liberal perspective. An axiomatization of the ideal liberal utilitarian social welfare functional is provided such that, on the one hand, each person has an absolute right to individual liberty over the issues within his private sphere, and, on the other hand, has an equal voice in a liberty-respecting, strongly monotonk, anonymous and neutral public choice rule operating in a distinct public sphere. The harmony of these private and public components implies the possibility of an ideal liberal democracy.

Abstract:
Analysis of predator-prey dynamical systems that have the functional response which generalizes the other types of functional responses in two dimensions is mainly studied in this paper. The main problems for this study are to detect the if and only if conditions for attaining the periodic solution of the considered system and to find the condition for global asymptotic stability of this solution for some different types of predator-prey systems that are obtained from that system. To get the desired results, some aspects of semigroup theory for stability analysis and coincidence degree theory are used.

Abstract:
Because of industrial water, many groundwater sources and other water bodies have a strongly acidic medium. Increased bacterial resistance against multiple antibiotics is one of the main challenges for the scientific society, especially those commonly found in wastewater. Special requirements and materials are needed to work with these severe conditions and treat this kind of water. In this trend, nanolayered structures were prepared and modified in different ways to obtain an optimum material for removing different kinds of heavy metals from water in severe conditions, alongside purifying water from a Gram-negative bacteria (E. coli), which is an indication for fecal pollution. An ultrasonic technique effectively achieved this dual target by producing nanolayered structures looking like nanotapes with dimensions of 25 nm. The maximum removal percentages of the heavy metals studied (i.e., iron (Fe), copper (Cu), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), and manganese (Mn)) were 85%, 79%, 68%, 63%, and 61%, respectively for one prepared structure. In addition, this nanostructure showed higher antimicrobial activity against the most common coliform bacterium, E. coli (inhibition zone up to 18.5 mm). This study introduces dual-functional material for removing different kinds of heavy metals from water in severe conditions and for treating wastewater for Gram-negative bacteria (E. coli).

Abstract:
A kind of sulfanilic acid molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was synthesized by reverisible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) process using (4-cyanopentanoic acid)-4-dithiobenzoate (CTA-2) as chain transfer reagent, methacrylic acid (MAA) as functional monomer and hydrophobic ionic liquids, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexfluorophosphate ([bmim]PF6), as functional reaction medium. The results showed that the obtained MIPs had regular shape with high affinity to sulfonamides, and when it was empolyed as the adsorbtion sorbent of solid phase extraction for selectively extracted the three kinds of sulfonamides (sulfamerazine, sulfadiazine and sulfamethoxazole) from chicken samples, the interferences of chicken matrix could be eliminated efficiently and the recoveries at three spiked leves were satisfied.
