Abstract:
The fare-free public transport policy (FFPT), the characteristic feature of which is abolishing fares in public transport, influences the transport system in favour of one means of transport. By joining the academic disputes over the outcomes of the FFPT policy, the aim of this paper is to understand the effects of the FFPT on overall mobility strategies and on the dynamics of the transport system where the policy is implemented. To do so, the paper is analysing a concrete example of the FFPT practice in Frýdek-Místek (Czechia) by conducting surveys with the residents and interviews with the city planning authorities. The results show that the FFPT influences mobility strategies and dynamics in the given transport system, which imprints in an increased use of public transport. However, the FFPT does not represent a universal tool of urban and transport planning and its implementation into practice should take place in synergy with other transport (dis)incentives.

Abstract:
Abstract Type sections/areas for all four formations distinguished in the sedimentary succession of the Subsilesian Unit on Czech territory were revisited and described. New data on lithology, sedimentology, fossil record, biostratigraphy, heavy-minerals and geochemical proxies are based on observations and analysis of these sections. The historical type section of the Frýdek Formation was destroyed during railway construction in 19th century. Outcrops of Campanian to Maastrichtian marls and sandstones on the southwestern slope of “Castle hill” at Frýdek, are proposed as a new type section. The Ostravice riverbed in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí was originally designated as the type area, not mentioning the particular section. This area, even when supplemented with Sibudov Creek, does not show all typical facies of the formation. The outcrops range from lowermost Eocene to Eocene-Oligocene transition. In the original description of the Menilite Formation Glocker mentioned several localities in the area covering the Ždanice, Subsilesian and Silesian units, not mentioning the principal one. The single sections, each not exceeding a thickness of 2 m, are not sufficient to be a type section. Instead of that, we propose the area between Paršovice and Bystřice pod Hostýnem, covering the historical localities, as the type area. The type locality of the Ženklava Formation is an outcrop in an unnamed creek in Ženklava according to the original definition. It seems to be reasonable to extend the type section to the whole 500 m long section of the creek with the outcrops that better illustrate the lithological variability of the formation. New biostratigraphic data allow assignment to late Egerian (Eggenburgian?).

Abstract:
The Czech mining industry has undergone a deep transformation and a damping down. In the year 1996, quality black coal is only mined in the Karviná part of the Ostrava basin and in one colliery in the Frýdek-Místek part of the basin. The used caving technology of underground extraction, however, caused a number of ecological and economic problems in the Karviná region. The question of the future of coal mining and the consequent negative effects on the local countryside are connected with numerous factors. A more extensive application of new laws concerning the protection of environment, the prices of imported coal, and other factors come to the fore in the economy of coal mining.

Abstract The Slender-billed Curlew (Numenius tenuirostris) is a worldwide endangered bird species on the brink of extintion. For the last time it nested in Siberia, Russia. It flew trought Europe regulary in the 19th century. Because its records are unrepeatable, each date has a high scientific value. This article describes the historical record probably of the Czech Republic, probably in north-eastern Moravia in the environment of Místek in Lachia, probably between the years 1884 and 1897. This record might come from the collection of J. Bednař from the school in Místek (now Frýdek-Místek). These indirect data are provable and it is not possible to agree with the conclusion of the Czech Faunistic Committee which considers the location and date as unknown.

Abstract:
Engineering-geological conditions of the effect of a landslide from mining activityThe paper deals with a slope deformation in Řepiště (Paskov), which is located between the towns of Ostrava and Frýdek Místek; Řepiště is situated in the Ostrava-Karviná District within the reach of the effects of mining activity. The deformation involves the Paskov Mine, which is the only active mine in the Ostrava section of the district. The study included mapping complemented with a geophysical survey using resistance tomography; along with the information obtained from the inspection, it provided an overview of the engineering-geological conditions of the slope deformation. The interpretation of the data obtained identified a very complicated structure, including several levels of slip surfaces. The landslide is thus a textbook example of slope movements with a very complicated geological structure occupying an extensive spatial area in the mining landscape and affecting the stability of a road running directly through its body.

Abstract:
The aim of the article is to present the results of a method of public preferences – a questionnaire survey finding an awareness of the relation between the modifications of watercourses and recreation in urban environment. The aquatic ecosystem and the water itself in a landscape are regarded by citizens as a mere source of energy, food, and water used for industry or as a means of transport. However, water elements along with the flora and fauna belonging to this living ecosystem provide a plethora of opportunities for a development of e.g. recreation, tourism, even an entire region. The questionnaire method used has been applied in selected cities in the Czech Republic, e.g. in Frýdek‑Místek, Olomouc, Vlašim, Benátky nad Jizerou and others. The criterion for selecting the cities has mostly been the construction of nature-friendly modifications to watercourse while seeking to increase the recreational potential of the area. The outcome of this article is to present the original results of the public survey which have subsequently served for a further processing of drafts and measures for recreational potential in the selected locations. The most important finding of this research was the minimum level of selected site citizens’ awareness of revitalization and flood modifications, projects that were realized on watercourses in the cities.

The Late Ordovician tropidodiscid gastropod Alaskadiscus, known only in two areas in Alaska, was named by Rohr, Frýda, and Blodgett (2003). Peter Wagner and Stephen K. Donovan have pointed out to us that the name was previously used for a Cambrian trilobite, Alaskadiscus Zhang, 1980. We propose the new name Alaskodiscus with the same type species, A. donensis Rohr, Frýda and Blodgett, 2003. We feel the similarity in names is not likely to cause undue confusion since the taxa are widely separated by phyla and age.

Abstract:
Recently described small outcrop of the upper part of the Barnasiówka Formation yielded several manganese oxidic minerals. Outcrop at the bank of the Krnalovice Stream (GPS N 49°38.623’ E 018°14.630’) consists of Lower Turonian greenish to grey-black laminated claystone alternating with grey chert. The whole sequence is a part of the Baška facies of the Silesian Unit, Outer Western Carpathians. In the middle part of the profile occur concretional aggregates containing manganese minerals. The central pale part of these aggregates is composed of quartz (ca. 90 wt.%), albite (ca. 9 wt.%), and muscovite, the darker rim of quartz (ca. 80 wt.%), goethite (ca. 10 wt.%), illite, todorokite, plagioclase, K-feldspar, and pyrite. Occasionally, remains of Mn-rich siderite were preserved in the cores. We suppose that they are in fact weathering products of carbonate-rich silicites. Manganese oxides also enter fissures in form of thin black coatings. Powder X-ray diffraction proved the presence of todorokite, ranciéite, pyrolusite, and possible vernadite. Todorokite forms black coatings with submetallic lustre, often associating with ranciéite. Ranciéite is dark pink to pinkish-brown, with a metallic lustre. Back-scattered electron images reveal its extremely thin tabular, sometimes undulated crystals and hexagonally oriented intergrowths. Powder diffraction data are strongly affected by preferred orientation, with dominating basal reflections of 001 plane at 7.4849 Å and plane 002 at 3.7424 Å. Its average formula from nine WDS spots (Ca0.14Mg0.01Ba0.01K0.01)Σ0.17(Mn4+0.86Si0.02Al0.03Fe0.01)Σ0.92O2.00·0.88H2O (based on 2 anions, water calculated from the ratio of cation sum / H2O in the formula according to Post et al. 2008) and CaO/MnO2 ratio 9 to 12 correspond well to the published data for this phase. Ranciéite is a rather common phyllomanganate from various geological environments, but this locality represents its first unambiguous occurrence in the Czech Republic. It closely resembles the one from Polish flysch Carpathians from Nowa Wieś near Rzesów.

Abstract:
The topic of my diploma thesis is the architectonical study of the new synagogue of Frýdek-Místek. The plot contained the original synagogue in the past, which was, like many other synagogues in Czechia, burned down by the Nazis. The only memento to the original synagogue left was the Jewish school. Its frontage was however stripped of all architecturally valuable elements and therefore lost all its historical value. For this reason, in the scope of this thesis, I have decided to tear down the old building and create a completely new complex, which will comply with the requirements of the Jewish quahal, with regards to architecture and utilization of the object. I’ve designed a monument, consisting of simple stone blocks in place of the old, torn down synagogue. The stone blocks mark the location of the outer walls of the original synagogue.

Abstract:
The diploma project handles the design of the synagogue and other buildings of the Jewish community in Frýdek - Místek. The project is formed as an architectural study. The complex of the Jewish community includes, in addition to the synagogue itself, a kosher restaurant, which is characterized by a specific cooking convention, as well as a Jewish gallery, a library and the administration of the Jewish community. The whole complex is complemented by an underground car park. The area is located close to the border of the historic city center. The land is not monotonous, in some parts it is relatively flat, in others it is sloping. It is bounded on the north by a blind road and on the south by road II. class on Revoluční street. At present, the territory of the former synagogue is unused and neglected. The idea of the design is based on simple principles of basic geometric shapes - circle and square. The circle is a symbol of heaven and eternity and the square is a symbol of earthliness and transience. The symbolism of numbers is also applied in the proposal, especially "1" - a sign of unity, indivisibility, as well as God; "2" - number of opposites - heaven and earth; "3" completeness and stability. From the compositional point of view, it is a line of 3 blocks of the same base and height, while one of them is fitted with a cylinder, which is the tallest of all objects. This results from the Jewish tradition. All objects are designed on a platform that symbolizes the ascent to the Temple Mount. The above mentioned functions are divided into separate objects. A uniform architectural language is chosen for all buildings. The principles of construction and layout of individual buildings differ according to their operation.

Abstract:
The thesis deals with a hypothetical project of a new building complex of a synagogue, a kosher restaurant and a community centre at the location of the former synagogue in Frýdek. The proposal includes a memorial of the destroyed synagogue and Jewish community, as well as the incorporation of the complex into the urban structure of the city. The project proposes a building distributed into three volumes. The restaurant and community centre are connected by an underground garage within a U-shaped floor plan. The buildings are axially symmetrical, white, with expressive rhythmical perforations of the facade. They surround the building of the synagogue in the shape of a seven-sided pyramid, which is clad with blue tempered steel and creates a strong contrast with the associated buildings. The whole complex is oriented towards the park and the chateau in Frýdek, from which it is clearly visible and thanks to its distinct volumetric and material expression and axially symmetrical composition creates a new landmark for the city.

Architectural study deals with the design of a new synagogue in Frýdku-Místku, located on the site of the original synagogue from 19th centruy, which was burnt by fanaticized Germans in 1939 and then demolished. Nowadays, it is an undeveloped area without any historical significant. There are other functions beside the building of synagogue – mikveh (ritual bath) and its access tunnel, the jewish community administration and kosher restaurant with two shops. The design concept works with the symbolish of the Star of David, triangles‘ intersection. The synagogue depicts the Mount Sinai, where the Ten Commandments were received.

Abstract:
The assignment of the diploma thesis was the elaboration of an architectural study of a new synagogue in the Frýdek-Místek. The solved area includes the original lands of the Jewish community, on which stood a synagogue, a Jewish school and a rabbinate. The synagogue was burned down in 1939 and currently only the rebuilt Jewish school building is located in the area. The main idea of the design is to build a memorial on the site of the original synagogue and a new synagogue with an adjoining community centre. The main goal is to support the development of the Jewish community in the city and to remind citizens and visitors of the history, because of which the Jewish community in Frýdek-Místek disappeared. In contrast to the monument, the entire building is set in the terrain so that the terrain passes freely in a public space with the main entrance to the community centre and a kosher restaurant. The building opens up to the south side of the slope and offers a view of the historic city centre of Frýdek. The area is connected by a footbridge to the park under the castle. Part of the community centre is a space for a ritual bath - Mikveh, the administration of the Jewish community and a multifunctional hall, which can be opened to the area in front of the residential staircase. The area is separated from Revoluční Street by a retaining wall and thus form an attractive place to spend time near the historic centre.
