A revolução ocorrida em princípios do século XX no México teve grande impacto sobre o país e a sua repercussão foi sentida em diversos campos sociais e culturais. Nesta dissertação me ocuparei sobretudo de abordar a transição ocorrida no meio artístico, uma vez que este também teve papel fundamental nas transformações por que passou o país a partir desse momento histórico, ocupando, concomitantemente, os espaços de sujeito e objeto da história. Identificando a artista plástica Frida Kahlo como uma intelectual engajada no cenário político em questão, utilizarei sua vida e sua obra para discutir a influência que o ambiente social exerce sobre o indivíduo, podendo modificar e/ou determinar suas atitudes em relação às transformações sociais que acompanha. Através de análises estéticas, artísticas e de contexto histórico de suas obras plásticas, de cartas e fragmentos de seu diário pessoal, procuro mostrar que a artista reconheceu ao longo de sua vida a necessidade de aliar arte e política, por identificar na sua própria prática o potencial transformador do fazer artístico, seja como forma de conscientização, seja como forma de contestação. Esta pesquisa visa também reforçar a necessidade de estudar-se cada vez mais os aspectos relativos à realidade latino-americana. The revolution that occurred at the beginning of the twentieth century in Mexico, had a major impact in the country and its impact was felt in several social and cultural fields. In this dissertation I will seek particularly to address the transition that occurred in the art context, as it also played a fundamental role in the transformations that the country went through from this historical moment, simultaneously acting like subject and object of history. By identifying the plastic artist Frida Kahlo as an intellectual engaged in the referred political scenario, I will use her life and work to discuss the influence that the social environment exerts over the individual, potentially modifying and/or determining his attitudes regarding social transformations that he witness. Through an aesthetic, artistic and historical context analysis of her paintings, fragments of letters and from her personal diary, I will show that the artist recognized throughout her life the need to combine art and politics, because she identified on her own practice the transforming potential of art making, whether as a form of consciousness, or as a contestation. This research also aims to reinforce the need to study ever more aspects of Latin American reality.

O conceito de biografema, de Barthes, servirá como base de uma leitura através de fragmentos e detalhes.
This dissertation aims to show how different narratives can build a diversity of images (auto) biographicals of Frida Kahlo from her own legacy material: letters, journal and self-portraits. The writing of herself and the daily life eternization by her memories lead to biographical constructions of Frida Kahlo specially the ones written by Patricia Mayayo in Frida Kahlo- against the mith; Rauda Jamis in Frida Kahlo; and Jill Laidlaw in Frida Kahlo.The biografema concept, of Barthes, will serve as a basis of a reading through fragments and details.

This research led to our perception plural verb-ups of visual artistic languages present in the art of the mexican Frida Kahlo. Analyzes her artistic construction, making associations between pictorial art in its diverse self-portraits and literary art of intimate diary, marked by pain and suffering. We are guided our work in translated form of the work Pain and Art, Urania Peres; The Diary de Frida Kahlo, transcribed by Carlos Fuentes, translated into Portuguese by Frederico de Morais. We use the theoretical, Sigmund Freud to ramble on flows conscious and unconscious; Jacques Lacan in the refractions of the signs in mirrors; Claude Zilberberg in tensividade of signs; Gonçalves, for the conduct of studies on the signs, among others. The rich creative inner world of the artist who combines in his major work in analysis – O Intimate Diary - a profusion of codes in expressive movements and semantic pluralities linked in a distinctive style in the visual arts and correspondences between them. The discursive resulting from cosmetic procedure produced by Kahlo generates various types of signs associations, making their many meanings arts and unique art with unusual character of its aesthetic exercise.
Esta pesquisa conduziu nossa percepção para as intermediações plurais das linguagens artísticas verbo-visuais presentes na arte da mexicana Frida Kahlo. Analisa-se a sua construção artística, fazendo associações entre a arte pictórica em seus diversificados autorretratos e a arte literária do diário íntimo, marcadas pela dor e sofrimento. Norteamos nosso trabalho na forma traduzida da obra Dor e Arte, de Urania Peres; O Diário de Frida Kahlo, transcrito por Carlos Fuentes, traduzido para o Português por Frederico de Morais. Recorremos aos teóricos, Sigmund Freud para divagar sobre os fluxos conscientes e inconscientes; Jacques Lacan nas refrações dos signos em espelhos; Claude Zilberberg na tensividade dos signos; Gonçalves, para o desenrolar dos estudos sobre os signos, entre outros. O rico universo interior criativo da artista que conjuga dentro de sua obra principal em análise - O Diário Íntimo - uma profusão de códigos em movimentos expressivos e pluralidades semânticas, vinculados num estilo diferenciado nas artes plásticas e nas correspondências entre eles. A resultante discursiva do procedimento estético produzido por Kahlo gera associações de variados tipos de signos, tornando sua arte plurissignificativa e singular com caráter insólito do seu exercício estético.

Mexican artist and global phenomenon Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) fascinates and inspires people from all walks of life. Rather than simply approaching the life and work of Kahlo from a traditional art historical perspective, this dissertation draws from the interdisciplinary nature of critical human geography to investigate Kahlo. Specifically, this work is informed by two sub-fields of critical human geography—feminist geography and cultural geography. Kahlo’s iconic status as a feminist symbol makes feminist geography an obvious choice while cultural geography provides the dominant methodology of textual analysis. Both sub-fields are drawn together by the use of a poststructuralist theoretical foundation that views no one meaning or interpretation as fixed, but rather posits that meanings and interpretations are fluid and open to a variety of conclusions. The primary research question in this dissertation is, “How are the critical geographies of hybridity, embodiment, and glocalization developed and explored in Frida Kahlo’s art and life?” The question is answered through the geographical exploration of Kahlo’s work, life, and iconic status as a major public figure. I delve into each of the three components of the question (hybridity, embodiment, and glocalization) by connecting geographical concepts and understandings to Kahlo and her work. I extend this exploration by arguing that Kahlo demonstrates how the self both mirrors and constructs critical geographies. This research seeks to expand and deepen the understanding of Kahlo as a significant geographical figure—an artist who was intensely aware of people and place. Additionally, this research draws together diverse threads of geographic inquiry by highlighting the interdisciplinary and humanistic qualities of the discipline. Perhaps most importantly, this dissertation positions Kahlo as a critical geographer—defying the sometimes arbitrary and limited notions imposed on the discipline and its practitioners. I assert that Kahlo’s work and life are inherently a lived expression of geographical ideas that manifest themselves in a physical, mental, and emotional sense. Ultimately, Kahlo constructs an embodied geographic text—creating knowledge and helping people understand identity and place in a different way.

Resumo Esta pesquisa propõe perceber a simbiose entre o artista e sua obra, reconhecendo a proximidade que vida e criação artística podem assumir, convergindo para uma arte autobiográfica. Investiga-se a relação entre dor e arte/ morte e criação como ciclo possível e necessário ao processo criativo. Frida Kahlo é escolhida como artista expoente para suscitar essas questões. A pesquisa mergulha em seu universo para, a partir dele, ver surgir o seu próprio, numa criação em dança. Nasce Entre Chagas e Borboletas. Os intermédios por que ela passa para estruturar-se - o processo criativo - são o material que interage com todos os temas investigados, para registrar o caminho anterior à obra.
Abstract This research propose to sense the symbiosis between the artist and his work, recognising the proximity that life and artistic creation can built, converging to an autobiografic art. Investigating the relation between pain and art, death and creation as a possible and necessary cicle to creative process. Frida Kahlo is chosen as an expoent artist to bring up these questions. The research dives deeply into her universe to, starting from that, built its own universe in a dance creation. Among Wounds and Butterflies born. The inner - ways it passes though to built itself - the creative process - is the material that interacts with all the themes investigated, to register the path before the creation.

O campo disciplinar de Relações Internacionais subjetiva e objetiva corpos a partir de saberespoderes pouco compreendidos ao longo da graduação ou pós-graduação. Os conceitos de subjetivação e objetivação, assim como de resistência aos discursos e práticas, foram utilizados por mim a partir da obra de Michel Foucault, cujos livros me aportaram base para escrever esta dissertação. Nesta, busquei expor a minha materialização enquanto sujeita internacionalista, a partir de uma genealogia do curso, assim como a minha resistência a essa materialização advinda de estudos da filosofia política e de outros debates proporcionados pelas sujeitas com as quais conviviam, as quais me desafiaram constantemente a repensar a ontologia e a epistemologia utilizadas por nossas professoras e colegas. Partindo deste início, minha metodologia se faz de um estudo sobre a resistência e a reprodução de Frida Kahlo dos discursos e práticas de sua época, durante sua vida, utilizando seus escritos e obras. Estes últimos considerei como os saberes poderes seus, os quais estão imbuídos em sua vivência. Por fim, meu argumento principal é que Frida desafiou as normatividades da sociedade na qual viveu, porém ao mesmo tempo reproduziu muitas das relações de poder pelas quais era perpassada.
The discipline field of International Relations subjectify and objectivify us in the short term of graduation or postgraduation. The concepts of subjectivation and objectification, as well as resistance to discourses and practices, were used by me through the work of Michel Foucault, whose books provided me with a basis for writing this thesis. In this writing of mine, I tried to expose my materialization as an internationalist subject, from a genealogy of the course, as well as my resistance to this materialization from studies of political philosophy and other debates provided by the subjects with whom I lived, which challenged me constantly to rethink the ontology and epistemology used by our teachers and colleagues. Starting from this beginning, my methodology is based on a study of Frida Kahlo's resistance and reproduction of the discourses and practices of her time during her life, using her writings and works. These last ones I considered like the his knowledge-powers, which are imbued in his experience. Finally, my main argument is that Frida challenged the norms of the society in which she lived, but at the same time reproduced many of the relations of power by which she was pervaded.

Esta pesquisa pretende analisar a produção artística e pessoal da pintora Frida Kahlo sob a perspectiva dos Estudos de Tradução, com maior ênfase nos Estudo de Tradução Intersemiótica. Muito se comenta que a obra da mexicana reflete, em grande parte, o que foi a sua vida, fortemente marcada por acontecimentos de diversas ordens: sérios problemas de saúde causados, sobretudo, por um grave acidente deônibus sofrido ainda na juventude, além de um relacionamento amoroso bastante conturbado com o muralista Diego Rivera. Não por acaso, esses são os temas mais representados pela artista em seus autorretratos. Partindo dessa constatação, a pesquisa objetiva, primeiramente, comprovar essa possível e estreita relação entre a vida e os autorretratos produzidos pela pintora, e, em seguida, a partir da leitura e análise das anotações do seu diário e das cartas escritas por ela e as recebidas – considerados, aqui, como textos de partida – identificar, nos autorretratos – os textos de chegada – a tradução desses documentos escritos e neles o registro feito pela artista dos sentimentos e emoções por ela experimentados em decorrência dos acontecimentos. Os fundamentos teóricos que sustentam o trabalho são, sobretudo, aTeoria do Polissistema, de Itamar EvenZohar, o conceito e a aplicação dos Estudos de Tradução Intersemiótica proposto por Julio Plaza, além das contribuições no campo da análise semiótica feitas por Lúcia Santaella. A pesquisa contempla, ainda, algumas reflexões acercado crescente número de admiradores de Frida Kahlo.
Esta investigación pretende analizar la producción artística y personal de la pintora Frida Kahlo sobre la perspectiva de los Estudios de Traducción, con mayor énfasis en los Estudios de Traducción Intersemiótica. Mucho se ha comentadoque la obra de la mexicana refleja, en gran parte, lo que fue su vida, fuertemente marcadapor acontecimientos de diversos órdenes: serios problemas de salud causados, sobre todo, por un grave accidente de tranvía sufrido cuando aún era joven, además de un relacionamiento amoroso conturbado con el muralista Diego Rivera. No es casual, que esos sean los temasmás representados por la artista en sus autorretratos. Partiendo de esa constatación, la investigación se centra, primeramente, en comprobar esa posible y estrecha relación entre la vida y los autorretratos producidos por la pintora, y, en seguida, a partir de la lectura y elanálisis de las anotaciones de su diario y de las cartas escritas por ella y las recibidas – considerados aquí como textos de partida – identificar, en los autorretratos – los textos de llegada – la traducción de esos documentos escritos y en ellos el registro hecho por la artista de los sentimientos y emociones por ella experimentados en el transcurso de los acontecimientos. Los fundamentos teóricos que sustentan el trabajo son, sobre todo, la Teoría del Polisistema, de Itamar Even-Zohar, el concepto y la aplicación de los Estudios de Traducción Intersemiótica propuesto por Julio Plaza, además de las contribuciones en el campo del análisis semiótico hechas por Lúcia Santaella. La investigación contempla, además, algunas reflexiones acerca del creciente número de admiradores de Frida Kahlo.
