Abstract:
Embedded devices are ubiquitously involved in a large variety of security applications which heavily rely on the computation of hash functions. Roughly, two alternatives for speeding up computations co-exist in these resource constrained devices: parallel processing and hardware acceleration. Needles to say, multi-core devices are clearly the next step in embedded systems due to clear technological limitations on single processor frequency. Hardware accelerators are long known to be a cheaper approach for costly cryptographic functions. The authors analysis is focused on the five SHA-3 finalists which are also contrasted to the previous SHA-2 standard and to the widespread MD5. On the hardware side, the authors deploy their implementations on two platforms from Freescale: a S12X core equipped with an XGATE coprocessor and a Kinetis K60 core equipped with a crypto co-processor. These platforms differ significantly in terms of computational power, the first is based on a 16-bit Freescale proprietary architecture while the former relies on a more recent 32-bit Cortex core. The authors’ experimental results show mixed performances between the old standard and the new candidates. Some of the new candidates clearly outperform the old standard in terms of both computational speed and memory requirements while others do not. Bottom line, on the 16 bit platform BLAKE and Grøstl are the top performers while on the 32-bit platform Keccak, Blake and Skein give the best results.

Abstract:
This paper describes Freescale company’s DSP device MC56F8013 implementation of a control method for sensorless BLDC motor, which is according to fuzzy neural network. The inductance of stator core varies according to the variation of rotor position, and the rotor position can be estimated with the variation of current response caused by six direction voltage vectors. Then use fuzzy neural network PI control method to optimize the dynamic performance, accelerate the rotor to a certain speed, and switch to EMF mode. The experiment results show that the proposed method can have fast response, strong robustness and superior performances.

This paper describes Freescale company’s DSP device MC56F8013 implementation of a fridge compressor control system about BLDC motors without position sensors, which includes motor starting and back EMF running. The motor start-up detects the variation of rotor position according to inductance of stator core. Then when the rotor is accelerated to a certain speed, EMF mode is switched. The EMF mode estimates the rotor position by back EMF zero-crossing detection method. The experiment results prove that the proposed system based on MC56F8013 can work normally and efficiently, and guarantee the demand of domestic refrigerator.

The truck with Electrically Controlled Air Suspension(ECAS) could reduce the loss of goods by setting running height when transporting, and to enhance the loading &unloading efficiency, a height modulating model was built by combining the theories of thermodynamics of variable-mass charging-discharging system and the vehicle kinetics. To solve such problems as “over-charging”, “over-discharging” and surging, a height control strategy of variable integral PID/PWM was proposed and its controller was developed base on the Freescale single chip. Finally the semi-physical rig was built for simulating the truck with the height controller, and the testing results show that the designed control system satisfies the requirement of height modulation.

In this paper, we present a high efficiency Doherty power amplifier (PA) employing dynamic power dividing network which automatically adjusts the input power division ratio in accordance with the level of input power to enhance efficiency. Doherty PA circuit parameters of each amplifier are determined by basic performance analysis according to the datasheet. Simulated circuits through Advanced Design System (ADS) exhibit an improvement of 4% at a 6 dB backoff point from its saturated output power (PSAT) than that of a conventional Doherty PA. Implemented Doherty PA using two Freescale MRF6S27015N laterally diffused metal oxide semiconductor (LDMOS) field-effect transistors (FETs) achieves excellent drain efficiency of 46.5% at a 6 dB backoff point from PSAT, which is 2% higher than conventional Doherty PA.

Abstract:
With constantly increasing demand in connected society Internet of Things (IoT) network is frequently becoming congested. IoT sensor devices lose more power while transmitting data through congested IoT networks. Currently, in most scenarios, the distributed IoT devices in use have no effective spectrum based power management, and have no guarantee of a long term battery life while transmitting data through congested IoT networks. This puts user information at risk, which could lead to loss of important information in communication. In this paper, we studied the extra power consumed due to retransmission of IoT data packet and bad communication channel management in a congested IoT network. We propose a spectrum based power management solution that scans channel conditions when needed and utilizes the lowest congested channel for IoT packet routing. It also effectively measured power consumed in idle, connected, paging and synchronization status of a standard IoT device in a congested IoT network. In our proposed solution, a Freescale Freedom Development Board (FREDEVPLA) is used for managing channel related parameters. While supervising the congestion level and coordinating channel allocation at the FREDEVPLA level, our system configures MAC and Physical layer of IoT devices such that it provides the outstanding power utilization based on the operating network in connected mode compared to the basic IoT standard. A model has been set up and tested using freescale launchpads. Test data show that battery life of IoT devices using proposed spectrum based power management increases by at least 30% more than non-spectrum based power management methods embedded within IoT devices itself. Finally, we compared our results with the basic IoT standard, IEEE802.15.4. Furthermore, the proposed system saves lot of memory for IoT devices, improves overall IoT network performance, and above all, decrease the risk of losing data packets in communication. The detail analysis in this paper also opens up multiple avenues for further research in future use of channel scanning by FREDEVPLA board.

Abstract:
Fan-out wafer level packaging (FO-WLP) has shifted from standard single die, single sided package to more advanced packages for System-in-Package (SiP) and 3D applications. Freescale's FO-WLP, Redistributed Chip Package (RCP), has enabled Freescale to create novel SiP solutions not possible in more traditional packaging technologies or Systems-on-Chip (SoC). Simple SiP's using two dimensional (2D), multi-die RCP solutions have resulted in significant package size reduction and improved system performance through shortened traces when compared to discretely packaged die or substrate based multi-chip module (MCM). More complex 3D SiP solutions allow for even greater volumetric efficiency of the packaging space. 3D RCP is a flexible approach to 3D packaging with complexity ranging from Package-on-Package (PoP) type solutions to systems including ten or more multi-sourced die with associated peripheral components. Perhaps the most significant SiP capability of the RCP technology is the opportunity for heterogeneous integration. The combination of various system elements including, but not limited to SMD's, CMOS, GaAs, MEMS, imaging sensors or IPD's gives system designers the capability to generate novel systems and solutions which can then enable new products for customers. To enable this ever increasing system integration and volumetric efficiency, novel technologies have been developed to utilize the full package space. Technologies such as through package via (TPV) and double sided redistribution are currently proving successful. For this discussion, an emerging technology for 3D RCP package stacking that can further enhance design flexibility and system performance is presented. This technology, package side connect, utilizes the vertical sides of packages and stacked packages to capture a normally unused piece of package real-estate. Mechanical and electrical characterization of successful side connects will be presented as well as reliability results of test vehicle packages using RCP packaging technology.

Abstract:
In the context of the session of the freescale Intelligence Car Competition, this paper designed the intelligent vehicle system based on MC9S12XS128 microcontroller and its mechanical system considering the driving-stability and comfort of car module. In the system, CCD camera gathers real-time track road conditions information, and then the microcontroller will identify road situation and realize tracking control with these information. Using time-optimal to control the DC motor speed and the positional PID to control the steering gear, adjust PID parameters dynamically based on the position of the black line. These measures guarantee the intelligent vehicle travel along a specified route safely、smoothly and fast, and then realize automatic tracing. The results show that the system meets the need of path recognition and anti-interfere well.
