Abstract:
The paper revises the biographical data about Michel Foucault’s stay in Poland in 1958-1959. The main inspiration comes from the recent very well documented literary reportage book by Remigiusz Ryziński, Foucault in Warsaw. Ryziński’s aim is to present the data and tell the story, not to analyse the data within the context of Foucault’s work. This paper fulfills this demand by giving additional hypotheses as to why Polish authorities expelled Foucault from Poland and what the relation was between communism and homosexuality. The Polish experience, the paper compels, might have been inspiring for many of Foucault’s ideas in his Madness and Civilization, Discipline and Punish, and The History of Sexuality. On the other hand the author points to the fact that Foucault recognized the difference between the role of the intellectual in the West and in communist countries but did not elaborate on it. In this paper the main argument deals with the idea of sexual paranoia as decisive, which is missing in Foucault's works, although it is found in e.g. Guy Hocquenghem.

The forms and specific situations of the government of men by one another in a given society are multiple; they are superimposed, they cross, impose their own limits, sometimes cancel one another out, sometimes reinforce one another. (Foucault [SP, 224])According to a commonplace in the critical discussion of Foucault's later work, he is supposed to have decided to take up Nietzsche's interpretation of power asWille zur Macht, ‘will to power.’ For instance, Habermas believes he has criticized Foucault when he says, ‘Nietzsche’s authority, from which this [Foucault’s] utterly unsociological concept of power is borrowed, is not enough to justify its systematic usage.’ Charles Taylor finds in Nietzsche ‘a doctrine which Foucault seems to have made his own,’ viz., that ‘there is no order of human life, or way we are, or human nature, that one can appeal to in order to judge or evaluate between ways of life.

Abstract:
In this artide, certain key issues in the Foucault-inspired research on gender, power and sexuality are discussed. One such theme is the relation between Foucault and the established "classics" of gender research. The awareness of gender and sexuality as social constructions is not new, it belongs to the history of feministic research. Another main thente is Foucault's concept of power. What implications does a multiple theory of power like Foucaults have for the understanding of gender related power? Does his relational power-concept lead us to analyses where the "objects" of the wielding of power are the only visible actors, causing them to appear as guilty of their own oppression? The "dUltlor maintains that Foucault has more than one concept of power, in fact several. Just to state, as many researchers do, that an analysis of power is inspired by Foucault, may give rise to more questions than answers. The third main theme deals with sexuality, marginality and hegemony. Foucaults analyses of marginalized groups, of "the others", those disregarded and silenced by the prevailing power/knowledge struetures, have often been regarded as a clear source of inspiration within gender research. The problem is just that Foucault s "others" often become anonymous shadows in the margins of society, shadows without an identity, a face, a voice. It is difficult to imagine how these "nodes in the network of power" could be able to generate alternative discourses, how they could represent a "counter-power" capable to break the discourse hierarchies.

Abstract:
A growing body of interpretive literature concerning the work of Michel Foucault asserts that Foucault’s critical project is best interpreted in light of various strands of philosophical phenomenology. In this article I dispute this interpretation on both textual and philosophical grounds. It is shown that a core theme of ‘the phenomenological Foucault’ having to do with transcendental inquiry cannot be sustained by a careful reading of Foucault’s texts nor by a careful interpretation of Foucault’s philosophical commitments. It is then shown that this debate in Foucault scholarship has wider ramifications for understanding ‘the critical Foucault’ and the relationship of Foucault’s projects to Kantian critical philosophy. It is argued that Foucault’s work is Kantian at its core insofar as it institutes a critical inquiry into conditions of possibility. But whereas critique for Kant was transcendental in orientation, in Foucault critique becomes historical, and is much the better for it.

Theoretically no Brothers: Marx and Foucault as Antagonists_ In spite of Foucault'sfrequent and positive references to Marx he does not deal with the critique of politicaleconomy. Foucault defines power in demarcation to Marxism and to approaches that theorizepower in relation to economy. This leads to serious flaws in Foucault's analytics of power. If wecompare Foucault's analysis of discipline and law to Marx' we can see that the two theories areincompatible. Attempts to merge Foucault and Marx otten lack methodological considerations.However it may be possible to re-interpret certain of Foucault's findings from a Marxian perspectiveand in doing so connecting Foucault and Marx.

Edward Saids Orientalism blev kendt som en anvendt udgave af Michel Foucaults diskursteori. Said hævdede at være inspireret af især Foucaults Archaeology of Knowledge og Discipline and Punish i sine analyser af det essentialiserede islambillede i orientalistikken. Med udgangspunkt i Saids hævdede inspiration fra Foucault kritiserer denne artikel Orientalism’s teoretiske ramme fra et sociologisk perspektiv. Dermed følger artiklen Sadik al-Azm’s argument, at Said ikke havde øje for det fænomen, som al-Azm kaldte ”orientalism in reverse”: Islamistiske og arabisk-nationalistiske tænkeres anvendelse af orientalistiske begreber i deres egne ideologiske konstruktioner. Artiklen argumenterer for, at Said som selv-erklæret foucaultianer burde have været opmærksom på diskursers reciprokke magt. Efterfølgende vises hvordan orientalister og islamister var tæt forbundne i den diskursformation, hvorfra det essentialiserede islambillede opstod. ENGELSK ABSTRACT: Dietrich Jung: Edward Said, Michel Foucault and the Essentialist Image of Islam Edward Said’s Orientalism became known as an applied version of Michel Foucault’s discourse theory. In analyzing the essentialist image of Islam as a core feature in Orientalist scholarship, Said claimed to be inspired by the work of Foucault, in particular by his Archaeology of Knowledge and Discipline and Punish. In using Said’s claim as a point of departure, this article criticizes the theoretical framework of Orientalism from a sociological perspective. Doing so, it examines Sadik al-Azm’s argument that Said had a blind eye to a phenomenon which al-Azm called “Orientalism in reverse”: the self-applications of Orientalist concepts in the ideological constructions of both Islamist and Arab Nationalist thinkers. The article argues that taking Foucault’s theoretical position seriously, Said should have been aware of the reciprocal power of discourses in shaping this essentialist image of Islam. The article then analyzes the phenomenon of “Orientalism in reverse” from a Foucauldian perspective, and shows the ways in which Orientalists and Islamists were closely knit together in a discursive formation from which the essentialist image of Islam emerged. Abstract:
This paper examines how Foucault and Deleuze understand each other’s work, arguing that they are united in their common endeavour to make it possible to think again. Focusing on Foucault’s ‘Theatrum Philosophicum’ and Deleuze’s Foucault, it shows how each of Foucault and Deleuze considers the other as someone who opens anew the possibility of thinking. The first section examines Deleuze’s interpretation of Foucault’s work. It demonstrates that, despite sounding as if he is elucidating his own philosophy, Deleuze is correct in saying that Foucault re-thinks thought by positing the disjunction between the articulable and the visible, among other things. Turning to Foucault’s review of Deleuze’s works, the second section explains why Foucault deems Deleuze’s notion of thought as a disjunctive affirmation. By underscoring the disjunctive role ‘and’ plays in the disjunctive affirmation of ‘the event and the phantasm’ and/or of thought itself and its object, Foucault considers Deleuze as someone who re-thinks thought not by conceptualising it but by thinking difference. The paper concludes that, while each endeavours to consider thought in a new light, both Foucault and Deleuze believe that the other makes it possible to think again.

Este trabalho busca investigar a possibilidade de que, partindo da concepção de poder em Foucault - definida como relações estratégicas que implicam necessariamente em resistência e liberdade - podemos compreender a ética como o ato de interagir com tais relações e, a partir daí, com a possibilidade de constituir a si mesmo através de práticas de liberdade. Existem algumas noções fundamentais em Foucault a serem analisadas. O poder não é algo que se detém, mas algo que se exerce; a ética é definida como a "prática refletida da liberdade"; e o sujeito é sempre historicamente constituído. Neste contexto, vemos Foucault em um primeiro momento, como um autor preocupado principalmente com as sujeições a que o poder submete os indivíduos, para em seguida, vislumbrarmos um autor preocupado com a interação destes indivíduos na medida em que tentam constituir a si mesmos, questionando o poder em seus efeitos de verdade e a verdade em seus efeitos de poder. Surgem então, algumas temáticas trabalhadas pelo autor que podem ser entendidas como práticas de liberdade, resistência ao poder e constituição do sujeito; tais como o cuidado de si, o papel do intelectual, a atitude crítica, a ética da amizade e a parrhesia.
Le but de ce travail est chercher la possibilité que, à partir de la conception de pouvoir chez Foucault - définie comme des relations stratégiques qui impliquent nécessairement en résistance et liberté - nous pouvons comprendre l'éthique comme l'acte d'interagir avec ces relations et, par la suite, avec la possibilité de se constituer soi même à travers de pratiques de liberté. Il y a quelques notions fondamentales en Foucault, pour être analysées. Le pouvoir n'est pas quelque chose qui subsiste, mais quelque chose qui est exercée; l'éthique est définie comme la "pratique réfléchie de la liberté", et le sujet est toujours historiquement constitué. Dans ce contexte, nous voyons Foucault, dans un premier moment, comme un auteur essentiellement préoccupé avec les sujétions que le pouvoir soumet les individus, pour en ensuite, apercevoir un auteur préoccupé avec l'interaction de ces individus, qui essaient se constituer eux mêmes, en questionnant le pouvoir dans ses effets de vérité et la vérité dans ses effets de pouvoir. Apparaît, alors, certaines questions élaborées par l'auteur qui peuvent être comprises comme des pratiques de liberté, de résistance au pouvoir et à la constitution du sujet; tel comme le soin de soi, le rôle de l'intellectuel, l'esprit critique, l'éthique de l'amitié et la parrhesia.

Meisterdenker zu erfinden ist sicher ein ganz gewöhnlicher Ausdruck von Epigonalität, zumindest seitdem die Philosophie ein Publikum hat. Es ist seit langem ein lesendes Publikum, dessen Meisterdenker also Meisterschreiber. In der Fiktion des Urhebers schließen sich auch gegensätzliche Interessen zusammen; denunziatorische und apologetische Absichten gehen darin konform, kritische und hagiographische Schreibweisen kreuzen sich. So erfahren wir auch von Michel Foucault. Längst ist sein Autorname so anerkannt, daß er zum Sujet eigener Abhandlungen wird. En passant, absatzweise, über Seiten hin ersteht die Figur des Philosophen aus der Lektüre; eine gewisse Aufmerksamkeit wird ungeduldig und drängt zum Ausdruck - so vermehren sich Bücher. Und?, wird man fragen, Foucault wird eben rezipiert, kein Problem! - Foucault?

Abstract:
One of the main influences on Judith Butler‘s thinking has been the work of Michel Foucault. Although this relationship is often commented on, it is rarely discussed in any detail. My thesis makes a contribution in this area. It presents an analysis of Foucault‘s work with the aim of countering Butler‘s representation of his thinking. In the first part of the thesis, I show how Butler initially interprets Foucault‘s project through Nietzschean genealogy, psychoanalysis and Derridean discourse, and how she later develops this interpretation in line with the progress of her own project. In the main part of the thesis, I present an analysis of Foucault‘s thinking in the period from The Archaeology of Knowledge (1969) to The History of Sexuality volume 1 (1976). This analysis focuses on the aspect of his work which has most influenced Butler‘s thinking: namely the notion of a relationship between knowledge, discourse and power. The other issues in his work which Butler addresses—genealogy, the subject, the body, abnormality, and sexuality—are discussed within this framework. I show how, in the early 1970s, Foucault develops the notion of power-knowledge, and sets out a relationship between power-knowledge and discourse which is overlooked by Butler. I argue that Butler interprets Foucaultian power through the notions of repression and social norms, and ignores the concepts of technology and strategy which form a key part of Foucault‘s thinking. I show how, from The Archaeology of Knowledge on, Foucault develops a socio-historical ontology and a genealogy of the subject, both of which are at variance with Butler‘s interpretation of his thinking.

Heidegger wird neben Sartre, Wittgenstein oder Habermas als eine prägende Gestalt des philosophischen Denkens zitiert, meist im Vorübergehen. Erst in seinem allerletzten Interview bekennt Foucault 1984, daß die Auseinandersetzung mit Heidegger sein eigenes philosophisches Denken angestoßen habe. Man sieht methodische Parallelen zwischen Heideggers Verfallsgeschichte des Abendlandes und Foucaults archäologisch-genealogischer Vernunftkritik. Man spürt gemeinsamen Quellen nach, etwa dem vor-logischen und vor-moralischen Denken der alten Griechen oder dem Machtdenker Nietzsche. Man erkennt gemeinsame Themen wie das Humanismusproblern, Tod und Endlichkeit. Es bleibt dagegen schwierig, trotz der interpretierbaren thematischen Nähe beider Denker zueinander und jenseits der expliziten Verweise Foucaults auf Heidegger, auch im philosophischen Gestus Foucaults eine Rezeption Heideggers anzuerkennen.

Den Anspruch, Philosoph zu sein hat Michel Foucault nur gelegentlich erhoben, gleichwohl ist aus vielen Stellen seiner Schriften und aus seinen Interviews klar, daß er als solcher verstanden werden muß. Die meisten seiner Bücher sind historische Arbeiten, immer allerdings mit einer aktuellen Erkenntnisabsicht verfaßt: als "Archäologien", "Genealogien" und "Problematisierungen" gehören sie dem Projekt einer "Geschichte der Gegenwart" an, dem sich Foucault verschrieben hat. Heute liegt sein Oeuvre, das in Deutschland relativ spät, ab den 70er Jahren aber immer zügiger übersetzt wurde, in Einzelausgaben so gut wie vollständig vor und hat inzwischen zu rückblickenden Betrachtungen eingeladen, die den polemischen Ton druch die Bemühung um eingehendere Lektüre abschwächen. Seit dem Tod des Denkers ist ein Abstand aufgetan, der es ermöglicht, Verständnis und Kritik allein an den Texten zu üben.

Atualmente, o termo #biopolítica# é empregado por inúmeros autores, e não apenas no domínio da filosofia política. Essa difusão, como era de se esperar, terminou por diluir, quando não alterou completamente, o uso que o filósofo Michel Foucault fez do termo, nos anos 1970. Por esse motivo, pareceu-nos interessante fixar, nesta dissertação, o significado ou significados originalmente atribuídos ao termo #biopolítica#, por Foucault, em seus livros, artigos e entrevistas. A pesquisa identificou cinco formulações, relativas a cinco mecanismos de poder distintos: o poder medical, o dispositivo de raça, o dispositivo de sexualidade, o dispositivo de segurança e a governamentalidade neoliberal. Nesta dissertação, reserva-se um capítulo para a análise de cada um destes mecanismos. Na conclusão, busca-se responder à questão a respeito das diferenças e das identidades entre essas cinco acepções de #biopolítica#.

Abstract:
The Foucault test (referred to as the knife edge or wire test) was invented by L. M. Foucault in 1858. In its most basic form only a white light point source and a knife edge are necessary to qualitatively detect small errors on an optical surface. It has been shown that under ideal conditions, errors on the surface as small as λ/600 can be detected. Thus this is one of the most sensitive yet economical tests and should always be considered as an option when one has a limited testing budget.

Abstract:
Abstract The Foucault pendulum is a well-known mechanism used to demonstrate the rotation of the Earth. It consists in a pendulum launched on linear orbits and, following Mach’s Principle, this line of oscillation will remain fixed with respect to absolute space but appear to slowly precess for a terrestrial observer due to the turning of the Earth. The theoretical proof of this phenomenon uses the fact that, to first approximation, the Foucault pendulum is a harmonic isotropic two degree of freedom (2-DOF) oscillator. Our interest in this mechanism follows from our research on flexure-based implementations of 2-DOF oscillators for their application as time bases for mechanical timekeeping. The concept of the Foucault pendulum therefore applies directly to 2-DOF flexure based harmonic oscillators. In the Foucault pendulum experiment, the rotation of the Earth is not the only source of precession. The unavoidable defects in the isotropy of the pendulum along with its well-known intrinsic isochronism defect induce additional precession which can easily mask the precession due to Earth rotation. These effects become more prominent as the frequency increases, that is, when the length of the pendulum decreases. For this reason, short Foucault pendulums are difficult to implement, museum Foucault pendulum are typically at least 7 meters long. These effects are also present in our flexure based oscillators and reducing these parasitic effects, requires decreasing their frequency. This paper discusses the design and dimensioning of a new flexure based 2-DOF oscillator which can reach low frequencies of the order of 0.1[Hz]. The motion of this oscillator is approximately planar, like the classical Foucault pendulum, and will have the same Foucault precession rate. The construction of a low frequency demonstrator is underway and will be followed by quantitative measurements which will examine both the Foucault effect as well as parasitic precession.

Abstract:
The numerical integration of Foucault test data is simplified when readings are taken for the centers of contiguous zones of equal area. Height errors from the reference surface are shown to be proportional to the simple sump of knife-edge shifts from nominal settings. Change of reference curvature for minimum zonal error is effected by changing each shift by the same amount. Errors are exact to third-order for conic surfaces. The method is especially helpful when many tests must be made in the figuring process. Formulas are derived and an example is given, using both arithmetical and graphical error adjustment.

Abstract:
Este Working paper saca a la luz del conocimiento un manuscrito poético inédito del siglo XVIII que narra, en versos de arte menor, el asesinato del secretario del virrey del Nuevo Reino de Granada en 1780. Este objeto de estudio constituye la primera parte de una extensa elegía cuya conclusión ya fue estudiada y publicada en la década de 1970 y se concentra en describir el castigo a los delincuentes. Como pregunta de investigación, el trabajo indaga cómo este inédito artefacto literario representa la violencia en el Nuevo Reino de Granada. Se explora, además, cómo reputados historiadores y académicos describen las características socioeconómicas de la época para relacionar y entender mejor el contenido del poema con el contexto social en el que se inscribe. Como sustento teórico, el texto retoma la noción freudiana del unheimlich para discutir sobre la perplejidad que produce ver tratado un tema tan macabro en una forma poética. También se consideran las observaciones de Michel Foucault sobre el castigo y la función de los cuerpos sobre los que éste se inflige. Finalmente, se discute el aporte del historiador William Cronon quien reconoce el poder de silenciar unas voces y privilegiar otras, según la agenda ideológica de quien crea o narra una historia. Como conclusión, se observa el fuerte papel de la religión en la incorporación del perdón y la misericordia divina como ingrediente fundamental para mitigar la severidad del castigo. Se propone que tal elemento de fe forma parte protagónica de la narración como una forma de expiar el hecho de que el castigo sea aún más cruel y descarnado que la forma como se describe el crimen mismo.

Die hier vorgestellte Studie wurde durch eine konstruktivistisch informierte Betrachtung kontrastiert, um dadurch sowohl das methodische Vorgehen der quantitativen Empirie als auch deren Ergebnisse zu reflektieren. Abschließend sollen diese beiden Aspekte noch einmal aufgegriffen werden. Bezüglich der empirischen Methodik macht sie offensichtlich, dass die quantitative Studie eine Reifikation eingeschränkter Raumbilder darstellt. Sie reproduziert eine Denkweise, die komplexe soziale Prozesse anhand vereinfachter Faktoren nachvollziehbar zu machen versucht. Bei der Einbeziehung der Raumstrukturtypisierung des BBR in die Auswertung zeigt sich eine begrenzte Aussagereichweite von räumlichen Strukturdaten bezüglich (sub-)lokaler und regionaler Analysen. Die komplexen sozialräumlichen Bedingungen schulischer Präventionsarbeit, so das Ergebnis, entziehen sich weitgehend einer Analyse mithilfe von Geodaten, die entweder aus mehreren Einzelkomponenten aggregiert sind (im Falle der Raumstrukturtypen20, Bevölkerungsdichtewerte und Zentrenerreichbarkeit) oder relativ große räumliche Einheiten umfassen (z. B. siedlungsstrukturelle Gebietstypen21). Eine differenzierte Sicht auf spezifisch urbane oder rurale Settings schulischer Präventionsarbeit können die (bisher) zur Verfügung stehenden räumlichen Daten nicht leisten. Darüber hinaus wäre es selbst bei Verfügbarkeit räumlicher Daten in größerer Detailschärfe unmöglich, eine kontingente soziale Wirklichkeit vor Ort mit Hilfe sozialstatistischer Raumdaten adäquat abzubilden. Als zum Teil sehr aussagekräftig im Sinne des quantitativen Forschungsparadigmas ergaben sich hingegen die Einschätzungen der Befragten bezüglich ihres räumlichen Umfeldes. Aus Sicht eines konstruktivistisch informierten Forschungsverständnisses geben aber auch diese Ergebnisse nur eine ganz spezifische Form einer durch den quantitativen Forschungsprozess geprägten Wahrheit wieder. Trotz dieser erkenntnistheoretischen Einschränkungen können die Ergebnisse der Umfrage zur Präventionsarbeit an Schulen Anlass für weiterführende Diskussionen sein und als Basis für eine kritische Reflektion dienen. Im Folgenden werden daher die zentralen Punkte der Diskussion der empirischen Ergebnisse noch einmal aufgenommen und zusammengeführt. Pädagogen an Schulen in Deutschland sehen sich in sehr unterschiedlichem Maße mit Herausforderungen konfrontiert. Die Verschiedenheit der Bedingungen des schulischen Alltags ist vor allem geprägt durch die hohe Selektivität und die darin zugrundeliegende Ausdifferenzierung des deutschen Schulsystems. Wie bei anderen schulischen Belangen auch liegen die Differenzen bezüglich der Herausforderungen, die sich den Schulen stellen, und der Ausgestaltung von Präventionsarbeit zumeist zwischen den Schulformen. Die Aussagen der Pädagog/-innen deuten dabei auf den Einfluss sehr unterschiedlicher sozialer Wirklichkeiten auf den Schulalltag hin. Aus Sicht der Schulleiter/-innen ballen sich Herausforderungen, insbesondere was die Thematisierung abweichenden Verhaltens von Schüler/-innen angeht, vor allem an Förder- und Hauptschulen. In städtischen Quartieren, die aus Sicht der Befragten durch soziale Problemlagen gekennzeichnet sind, konzentrieren sich die Probleme in Schulen zusätzlich. Präventionsarbeit an Schulen versteht sich häufig als Antwort auf problematische soziale Verhältnisse. Da sich insgesamt ein sehr positives Bild bezüglich der von Schüler/-innen erlernten sozialen Fähigkeiten ergibt und andere Studien auf einen Rückgang beispielsweise der Jugendgewalt hindeuten, muss davon ausgegangen werden, dass es andere Gründe für die Konjunktur von schulischer Präventionsarbeit gibt als zunehmend aggressives Verhalten unter Kindern und Jugendlichen. Die Ergebnisse der Untersuchung belegen auch, dass Präventionsarbeit unabhängig von der Problemwahrnehmung an Schulen zur – oder nicht zur – Anwendung kommt. So spielt die Problemwahrnehmung beispielsweise keine Rolle für die Schwerpunktsetzung bei ihrer Finanzierung. Der verstärkte Einsatz von Geldern in Städten und vor allem dort, wo das Umfeld der Schulen für „multikulturell“ oder „sozial schwach“ gehalten wird, macht einen kulturalistischen bzw. sozialökologischen Einschlag von Präventionsarbeit an Schulen offensichtlich. Eine eingeschränkte Problemorientierung wird ebenfalls durch die Ergebnisse bezüglich der Prävention politisch motivierter (Hass-)Kriminalität deutlich. Fremdenfeindlichkeit im Schulumfeld wird zwar wahrgenommen, in vielen Fällen jedoch folgen darauf keine Präventionsaktivitäten. Auf der einen Seite reagiert schulische Präventionsarbeit gar nicht auf offensichtliche Missstände, auf der anderen Seite wird Prävention eingesetzt, obwohl kaum Probleme thematisiert werden (vgl. z. B. Gewaltprävention an Gymnasien). Im Wesen des Präventionsgedankens liegt begründet, dass sich Präventionsarbeit nicht unbedingt an den Herausforderungen des schulischen Alltags orientiert. Selbst wenn keine konkreten Probleme vorliegen, ist im Sinne von Primärprävention vorbeugendes Handeln angezeigt. So kommt es auch dazu, dass Präventionsarbeit häufig die Durchführung allgemeiner Lebenskompetenzprogramme bedeutet. Die Vielzahl sehr allgemein auf die Aneignung von Sozialkompetenzen ausgerichteter Präventionscurricula macht deutlich, wie der Präventionsgedanke/- diskurs den Schulalltag auch in Bereichen durchdringt, die vormals von anderen Diskursen beeinflusst waren. Unter dem Begriff „Prävention“ wird heute explizit vermittelt, was in früheren Jahrzehnten als „Erziehung“ en passant von den Lehrer/-innen geleistet wurde. Mit dem Erstarken des Präventionsparadigmas hat sich der Umgang der Lehrer/-innen mit ihren Schüler/-innen verändert. Das Fördern sozialer Fähigkeiten findet stärker institutionalisiert statt und erhält, das ist ein entscheidender Machteffekt (im Sinne Foucaults (1978)) des Präventionsbegriffs, mit der neuen Bezeichnung auch eine neue Konnotation. Sie ist verknüpft mit Begriffen wie „Risiko“, „Gefährdung“ oder „Sicherheit“. Schon die Vermittlung grundlegender sozialer Kompetenzen wird, durch den Präventionsgedanken geprägt, zunehmend von dem defizitorientierten Ziel geleitet, abweichendes Verhalten zukünftig zu verhindern oder zu minimieren. Gerade an Grundschulen, die nach den Ergebnissen der Umfrage die wichtigsten Sozialisationsinstanzen unter den Schulen sind, ist der Aspekt der frühen Förderung von Sozialkompetenzen bei Kindern Ausgangspunkt für die zunehmende Durchdringung mit dem Präventionsgedanken. Der Präventionsdiskurs, so zeigen die Ergebnisse der Umfrage, besitzt die Macht, Eingriffe in das schulische Miteinander von Lehrer/-innen und Schüler/-innen zu legitimieren, die ohne seine Popularität kaum denkbar wären. Geht man davon aus, dass unter der Bedingung „individualisierter Lebenslagen“ (Beck 2003: 144) und einer damit Einhergehenden Pluralisierung von Lebensweisen Grenzerfahrungen ein wesentliches Element von Sozialisation und Identitätsbildung sind, kommt abweichendem Verhalten eine große Bedeutung im Prozess des Aufwachsens zu. Schädlich für die Gesellschaft, im Sinne einer Verstetigung in Form kriminellen Verhaltens, ist es in den seltensten Fällen. Aus dieser Sicht erfordert nicht jedes abweichende Verhalten ein präventives Entgegenwirken und es müsste ein besonderes Augenmerk darauf liegen, dass der Präventionsgedanke nicht unreflektiert als Legitimationsfolie für ordnungspolitische Eingriffe instrumentalisiert wird. Ob der verdachtsgeleitete Umgang mit Kindern wünschenswert ist, bleibt fraglich. Bezweifelt werden kann, dass die Notwendigerweise mit Prävention einhergehende Defizitorientierung lustvolles Lernen befördert.
