Full textAim and research questions: The aim of this study was, trough systematic observations and qualitative interviews, to highlight the usefulness of knowledge of strength training, to gather knowledge about behaviour of football coaches or strength and condition coaches in football clubs and to show how these are implemented in the practice for boys and girls aged 16-20The research questions were: (1) how does a trainer's perception of his / her knowledge correspond with his / her actions in a practical situation?(2) how does the coach feel that strength training can contribute to the development of youth's physical qualities and health?(3) how can differences or similarities in behaviour between different coaches be explained?Method: Methods used to collect empirical data in this study were through observations and interviews. The sample consisted of five football / strength and conditioning coaches at youth level (U19 / F19) from five different football clubs. The observation instrument used in this study was a modified version of the Coach Analysis and Intervention System (CAIS). The modified observation instrument contained only 12 behaviours since the study focused solely on exercise form. Results: The most common behaviour was silence and instructional behaviour. Instructional behaviours occurred more often than feedback behaviours. There were similarities and differences in behaviour between the five different coaches. Conclusion: In summary, the analysis is that the coaches who have a tertiary-level sports science background and a higher knowledge in the subject area of strength training have a better self-perception of the competence they possess and implementation of strength training in practice. Parallels can also be found between adequate knowledge of strength training and a safe execution that promotes the development of youth’s physical qualities and health. Differences or similarities in behaviour and choice of role can also be linked to the level of subject knowledge and experience.

Full textThe amount of members in organized sports in Sweden has declined. Football is the biggest sport in Sweden and also the biggest youth- and adolescent sport. How high is the participation motivation in adolescent football players and do they have thoughts about dropping out? Has Covid-19 had an impact on their motivation? The purpose of this essay was to examine the participation motivation in adolescent football players and if it has any connection to their thoughts about dropping out. The purpose was also to examine the impact of Covid-19.The method of this essay has been implemented with a quantitative perspective, where the design of the essay was in form of a survey study. The selection of the essay was 140 football players between the ages of 15 – 19.The results of the essay showed that the participation motivation was generally high but they also have had thoughts about dropping out of football. The results showed a connection between amotivation and thoughts about dropping out and a negative connection between intrinsic motivation and thoughts about dropping out. The results also showed that the motivation has declined during Covid-19.The results of the essay are consistent with previous research and the self-determination theory. More studies on the topic needs to be done and examine the impact of Covid-19. Studies with a qualitative perspective is needed to further examine and gather more information about the impact of Covid-19 on the participation motivation in youth- and adolescent athletes.

Full textAthletes do not always make healthy food choices meanwhile the right nutrition is prerequisite to meet the physiological commands of a soccer player. The purpose of the study was to investigate dietary habits of young people at soccer gymnasiums and compare the results with the Swedish Olympic Committee's dietary recommendations. The study was quantitative and a web survey was used as a data collection method. The questionnaire was made to collect information regarding the respondents' dietary habits, food choices, and diet in connection with performance and was answered by 132 participants, of whom 100 responses could be analyzed. Data was analyzed with descriptive statistics. The results of the study show that the majority of young people have a regular meal arrangement for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. However, they have less control over timing and what should be taken after training. In addition, the study also showed that saturated fat is popular among the participants and that they have a great desire for reduced intake of saturated fat, sweets and fast food. In conclusion, the result of this study is a basis for advice and guidelines on diet for soccer youths and can be a useful tool and support for health counselors, teachers, trainers, and parents.

Eriksson, Christoffer. "Swedish Players’ Transition From Junior to Senior Football in Relation to Perceived Health and Athletic Identity." Thesis, Halmstad University, School of Social and Health Sciences (HOS), 2010. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:hh:diva-5031.
Full textThe objectives of this study concerning Swedish players’ transition from junior to senior football were to examine: (1) transition, perceived health, and athletic identity variables, as well as the relationship between them; (2) how transition, perceived health, and athletic identity variables contribute to: (a) healthy sport participation; (b) unhealthy sport participation; (c) quality of adjustment on the senior level of football; (d) life satisfaction. The theoretical frameworks included: the developmental model on transitions faced by athletes; the career transition model; the perceived health and sport/exercise participation model; the circle of health model. The participants (n = 126) were Swedish adolescent football players at local, national or international competitive levels. Three instruments were used in regard of the quantitative approach: the Transition Monitoring Survey; the Perceived Health and Sport Participation Profile; the Athletic Identity Measurement Scale. The transition variables were examined and several relationships were discovered between transition and perceived health variables, and athletic identity. Four multiple regression analyses showed that satisfaction with different spheres of life and coping strategies are significant positive predictors of healthy sport participation. Athletic identity, personal resources, and environmental pressure are significant positive predictors of unhealthy sport participation. In addition, environmental support was revealed to be a significant negative predictor of unhealthy sport participation. Importance of different aspects of sport and satisfaction with sport participation are significant positive predictors of the quality of adjustment on the senior level of sports, whereas importance of different spheres of life and athletic identity are significant negative predictors. Importance of different spheres of life and healthy sport participation are significant positive predictors of life satisfaction. The results are discussed in relation to theoretical frameworks and previous research.
De teoretiska referensramarna inkluderade: the developmental model on transitions faced by athletes; the career transition model; the perceived health and sport/exercise participation model; the circle of health model.
