Abstract:
To improve the effect of multi-point stretch forming of sheet metal, it is proposed in this paper to replace a fixed ball head with a swinging ball head. According to the multi-point dies with different arrangements, this research establishes finite element models of the following stretch forming, i.e., fixed ball heads with conventional arrangement, swinging ball heads with conventional arrangement, swinging ball heads with declining staggered arrangement, and swinging ball heads with parallel staggered arrangement, and then numerical simulation is performed. The simulation results show that by replacing a fixed ball head with a swinging ball head, the surface indentation of the part formed was effectively suppressed, the stress and tension strain distribution of the part formed was improved, and the forming quality was improved; the thickness of the elastic pad was reduced, the springback was reduced and the forming accuracy was improved; and when the ball head was applied to a multi-point die with staggered arrangement, a better forming result was achieved, where the best forming result was achieved in combining the swinging ball heads with the multi-point die with a parallel staggered arrangement. Forming experiments were carried out, and the experimental results were consistent with the trend of numerical simulation results, which verified the correctness of the numerical simulation.

Abstract:
Head forging is an indispensable part of major technical equipment, which is required to produce high quality products because of its large volume and complex structure and long service under high temperature and high pressure. By means of DEFORM-3D numerical simulation and scaling experiment, the dynamic recrystallization dynamics model of SA508-3CL steel is established. Meanwhile, the head forming scheme is designed. The effects of different blank height-diameter ratio size, punch shape size and upper and lower die matching relationship on forging forming are emphatically analyzed. Finally, the reasonable head forming scheme is determined, and the 1:8 head forming scale test is carried out. The results show that the size of the head forging basically coincides with the design size and meets the load of the hydraulic press, which proves the rationality of the forming process of the head. The study provides a theoretical basis for the manufacture of the same type of large variable wall thickness head forgings.

The structural basis for the phosphoryla- tion-dependent regulation of smooth muscle myosin ATPase activity was investigated by forming two- dimensional (2-D) crystalline arrays of expressed unphosphorylated and thiophosphorylated smooth muscle heavy meromyosin (HMM) on positively charged lipid monolayers. A comparison of averaged 2-D projections of both forms at 2.3-nm resolution reveals distinct structural differences. In the active, thiophosphorylated form, the two heads of HMM interact intermolecularly with adjacent molecules. In the unphosphorylated or inhibited state, intramolecular interactions position the actin-binding interface of one head onto the converter domain of the second head, thus providing a mechanism whereby the activity of both heads could be inhibited.

Abstract:
This paper proposes a new joining approach for dissimilar materials, called ‘the fastenerless-riveting,’ employing the friction stir forming (FSF). The FSF is a friction stir process invented by Nishihara in 2002. In FSF, a substrate material was put on a die firstly. Next, friction stirring was conducted on the back surface of the material. The material then deformed and precisely filled the cavity of the die due to high pressure and heat caused by the friction stirring. The authors utilized the FSF approach to generate rivet like joints as followings. First, a substrate which is capable for friction stirring, i.e. an aluminum alloy plate, was put on a dissimilar material plate having holes, i.e. a steel plate. The authors call the former ‘the host member,’ the latter ‘a joined member.’ These members were put on a die having the cavity to fabricate the head of the rivet-like structure. Then FSF was conducted to form the stems and heads of the structure. Joint members are able to be stacked within the forming limit. In the study, the authors firstly conducted the proof of the concept (PoC) tests to generate rivet-like structure between steel and aluminum alloy plate and between CFRP and aluminum alloy plate, then investigated the forming conditions, i.e. tool feed rate, tool pass and the corresponding results, including the volume of the generated stem and head of the individual rivet-like structure. 3mm-thick A5083P-O aluminum alloy plates was utilized as the host member, and a 0.7mm-thick SPCE steel plate and a 0.8mm-thick CFRP plate as the joined members.

Abstract:
Abstract The head on a pressure vessel with curved shapes such as hemispherical, torispherical, and ellipsoidal is derived from the formed plate. Generally the plates available in the market have a width of 1.6 m, this condition becomes a limitation if you want to use one plate material integrally so that a plate is needed to make a head with a larger width. Therefore, to make a head with a width of 2.5 m, a cold forming process is carried out on two welded plates. However, after the process is carried out, failure occurs in the form of cracks around the weld area. In this paper, we will discuss the failure analysis of the cold forming process that occurred on two ASME SA516 grade 70N plates used as base metal. In order to analyze the causes of failure, hardness, tensile, metallographic, and chemical composition tests were carried out. In addition, calculations were also carried out to determine the value of crack consists of hot (UCS), cold cracking (Pcm), and carbon equivalent (CE). From the calculation results it is evident that the material has a UCS value below 30, the PCm value is between 0.23-0.35%, and is in zone II on the Graville diagram where this value indicates that the material has good weldability. Meanwhile, from the results of mechanical testing, the hardness and tensile strength values are greater than the standard, which are 300 HBW and 621 Mpa, respectively, with a high elongation value, which is 21.8%. The results of metallographic observations showed that the martensite phase was formed but in small amounts in the heat affected zone (HAZ) area with needle-like grain shapes. This martensite phase acts as a stress concentration which is the starting point for cracks when the cold forming process is carried out. The formation of the martensite phase is caused by an inappropriate preheat process and the heat input is too large.

Abstract:
Voice syncretism is widely attested crosslinguistically. In this paper, we discuss three different types of Voice syncretism, under which the same morpheme participates in different configurations. We provide an approach under which the same Voice head can convey different interpretations depending on the environment it appears in, thus building on the notion of allosemy. We show that, in all cases under investigation, allosemy is closely associated with the existence of idiosyncratic patterns. By contrast, we notice that allosemy and idiosyncrasy are not present in analytic passive and causative constructions across different languages. We argue that the distinguishing feature between the two types of constructions is whether the passive and the causative interpretation comes from the Voice head, thus forming a single domain with the vP or whether passive and causative semantics are realized by distinct heads above the Voice layer, thus forming two distinct domains.

Due to the increase in the coefficient of friction with the punch side, the plate thickness reduction ratio decreases, and is the lowest when it is close to non-lubrication; Stress concentration occurs at the die shoulder with forming processing. With the increase in the friction coefficient value, forming limit parameter (FLP) increases slightly, but as it does not reach the limit value of 1, the forming process can be safely performed without mechanical damage; When the formability is comprehensively evaluated using the plate thickness reduction ratio and FLP, the friction coefficient μ = 0.4 to 0.5 is reasonable.

Abstract:
Nowadays, step reduction in the manufacturing process is an important issue because it reduces both the cost and time. The objective of this research is to reduce the steps used in the cold forging process of a socket head screw from 3 steps (existing design) to 2 steps (new design). The commercial FEM (Finite Element Method) software was used for simulating the values of flow line, forging force and die stress, which were then used to determine part quality and tool life. The results have shown that the simulated values of 2-step design are similar to 3-step design.

Abstract:
This article presents new joining-by-forming processes to assemble longitudinally two metal–polymer sandwich composite panels perpendicular to one another. Process design draws from an earlier development of the authors for metal sheets to new concepts based on the combination of sheet-bulk forming with mortise-and-tenon joints. Selected examples obtained from experimentation and finite element modelling give support to the presentation. A new three-stage joining by the forming process is capable of producing mechanically locked joints with larger and stiffer flat-shaped heads than those fabricated by alternative single- or two-stage solutions. Failure in the new three-stage joining by the forming process is found to take place by cracking instead of disassembling after unbending the flat-shaped head of the joint back to its original shape. The required forming forces to produce the new metal–polymer joints are below 15 kN, allowing them to be an effective, easy-to-implement alternative to existing solutions based on adhesive bonding, welding and mechanical fastening.

Abstract:
Considering that the trajectory of the cutting head of the longitudinal axis roadheader directly affects the surface morphology of the roadway, the formation mechanism of the outer profile of the roadway obtained by the cutting head is analyzed, and the dynamic model of the cutting part was constructed. The variation law of the vibration swing angle of the cutting head under different working conditions was obtained, and the coordinate of the cutting head of the roadheader in the roadway space coordinate system was determined by using the robot kinematics analysis method. The mathematical model of cutting the outer outline of the roadway by the cutting head is constructed. Through the numerical calculation and analysis, the characteristics of the formed outer profile of the roadway were analyzed considering the influence of the vibration of the cutting head. The results show that the difference between the “pit” and the “peak ridge” obtained by considering the vibration of the cutting head is larger than that without considering the vibration of the cutting head, which shows that the outer outline of the roadway obtained by the real cutting is more rougher than that without considering the vibration of the cutting head. With the increase of the cutting lifting angle, the maximum and average value of the difference between the “pit” and the uplift “peak ridge” on the coal and rock shows an increasing trend, and with the increase of the cylinder pressure, the maximum values of the horizontal swing angle “pit” and the uplift “peak ridge” gradually increase. The vibration of the cutting head when cutting coal and rock will have a great influence on the outer profile of the roadway, which cannot be ignored in the research of accurate autonomous cutting control algorithm of roadheader. The research results of this paper can provide a basis for the optimization of cutting parameters and high-precision forming control method of roadheader.

This study investigated hollow stemmed hip forging for enhancing the biocompatibility of Ti-6AL-4V titanium alloys. Instead of using the expensive titanium billet, this study applied DEFORMTM 3D finite element analysis software to simulate and analyze stem forming with respect to different die temperatures, friction factors, punch types, forging velocities, and billet temperatures. On the basis of its shape, a punch can be classified as flat head, ladder shaped, spherical, and conical. These differences affect the effective stress and punch load after stem formation. The experiment parameters were determined using the Taguchi L16 (45) orthogonal table. Both the simulated and experimental results indicated that the error for the size of the bone stem was less than 2%.

Abstract:
The possibility of avascular changes of the metatarsal heads following forefoot surgery has been previously documented. The aim of this study was to investigate the arterial supply of the lesser metatarsal heads with regard to osteotomies of these bones. We used epoxy resin injections and a modified Spalteholz technique in human cadaveric specimens to demonstrate the intraosseous and extraosseous blood supply of the lesser metatarsals. The metatarsal heads had two arterial sources: The dorsal metatarsal arteries, which arose from the dorsalis pedis artery, and The plantar metatarsal arteries, which are branches of the posterior tibial artery. These two vessels typically anastomosed at two sites about the metatarsal heads, forming a vascular ring and provided an extensive extraosseous arterial network around the metatarsal heads. Small arterial branches of this network run distally on the metatarsal cortex to enter the bone of the metatarsal head. The nutrient arteries traversed the cortex of the metaphysis close to the capsular and ligamentous insertions to provide multiple branches for the supply of the subchondral bone. Extensive capsular stripping during metatarsal head osteotomies results in damage to the medial and lateral head vessels.

Abstract:
The existing double sided incremental forming (DSIF) mostly uses two tools with the same diameter as the upper/lower tools, which is not conducive to improve the forming quality and forming efficiency. In this paper, the influence of the different combination of the upper and lower tool head diameters on the thickness distribution and the contour dimension accuracy of the formed part is studied by using ANSYS / LS-DYNA software and by taking the model with bidirectional convex features as the research object. It is found that the reasonable combination of different diameters of the upper/lower tools based on the characteristics of the parts to be formed can improve the forming quality and forming efficiency.

Abstract:
Railway spike screws are manufactured by hot forging on a massive scale, due to each kilometer of railway track needing 8600 spike screws. These components have a low market value, so the head must be formed in a single die stroke. The service life of the dies is directly related to the amount of energy required to form a single screw. The existing standard for spike screws specifies only the required tolerances for the head dimensions, particularly the angle of the hub faces and the radius of agreement of the hub with the cap. Both geometrical variables of the head and process conditions (as-received material diameter and flash thickness) are critical parameters in spike production. This work focuses on minimizing the energy required for forming the head of a railway spike screw by computational simulation. The variables with the highest degree of incidence on the energy, forging load, and filling of the die are ordered statistically. The results show that flash thickness is the variable with the most significant influence on forming energy and forming load, as well as on die filling. Specifically, the minimum forming energy was obtained for combining of a hub wall angle of 1.3° an as-received material diameter of 23.54 mm and a flash thickness of 2.25 mm. Flash thickness generates a lack of filling at the top vertices of the hub, although this defect does not affect the functionality of the part or its serviceability. Finally, the wear is mainly concentrated on the die splice radii, where the highest contact pressure is concentrated according to the computational simulation results.

Abstract:
There are various ways to grasp the spatial and temporal structures of sound field. Sound field visualization is an effective technique to understand spatial sound information. For example, acoustical holography, optical methods, and beam-forming have been proposed and studied. In recent years, augmented reality (AR) technology has rapidly developed and is now more familiar. Many sensors, display devices, and ICT technologies have been implemented in AR equipment, which enable interaction between real and virtual worlds. In this paper, we propose an AR display system, which displays the results obtained by the beam-forming method. The system consists of 16ch microphone array, real-time sound field visualization system and optical see-through head mounted display (OST-HMD). Real-time sound field visualization system analyses sound signals recorded by 16ch microphone array by beam-forming method. Processed sound pressures data are sent to OST-HMD by using transmission control protocol (TCP), and colormap is projected on real world. Settings property of real-time sound field visualization system can be changed by using virtual user interface (UI) and TCP. In addition, multi-users can experience the system by sharing sound pressures and settings property data. Using this system, users wearing OST-HMD can observe sound field information intuitively.

In the research process, SolidWorks matched with 3D scanning is first used for drawing the physical mold, which is then imported to DEFORM, a finite element forming software, for the tapping screws forming simulation and analysis. Through the spring constant adjustment of three different sliding upper dies, the simulation results and the physical measurement size are compared the difference in diameter or length before and after the formation, which does not exceed 2.38% at most. The research result could assist manufacturers in establishing the forming analysis process of tapping screws to find out the optimal mold and process parameters.
