Abstract:
Abstract This article aims to reconstruct the history of eravassimo (first-person plural of the imperfect indicative of essere) and other Italian verbal forms ending in -vassimo. These rare verbal forms began to appear in grammars and dictionaries in the 17th century and in some literary and non-literary texts in the 18th century. Some examples of the verbal forms in -vassimo can still be found in texts produced in recent years on the Internet.

Abstract:
The digital shift has radically changed the way of 'watching' television: this cultural, perceptual and cognitive revolution has transformed viewers from passive consumers to manipulators and producers of messages. A new factor is the interconnection between the different semiotic codes, verbal and non-verbal, that cooperate in the construction of the message. The article deals with the theme of popularisation and teaching in television, commenting on some of its forms and suggesting, with concrete examples, how to use television products born with other purposes in teaching Italian to foreigners.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
2010 - 2011
The aim of this experimental study is to investigate the representation and processing of regular, sub-regular and irregular verbal forms of Italian. In psycholinguistics, the debate on the processing of regular and irregular verbs is based on the contrast between Dual Mechanism models (Pinker and Prince, 1988; Clahsen, 1999; Caramazza, Laudanna and Romani, 1988), which claim that regular forms are processed through the application of inflectional rules, while irregular forms are retrieved as whole words from the associative memory, and Connectionist models (McClelland and Patterson, 2002; Joanisse and Seidenberg, 1999; Rumelhart and McClelland, 1986), which claim that a single associative mechanism accounts for both regular and irregular form processing. Despite Dual Mechanism models clearly support distinct mechanisms for the representation of regular and irregular verbs, several studies point out that this dichotomy is challenged by the existence of families of "sub-regular" verbs, which share morpho-phonological features and follow the same inflectional patterns. The debate on sub-regular patterns evolved especially with respect to languages like Italian, based on the organization into inflectional classes, each characterized by a specific regular paradigm, and on a varying aggregation of sub-regular families. The coexistence of multiple regular patterns and sub-regular families seems to be consistent with the Optimality Theory (Prince and Smolensky, 1993; Benua, 1997, Bernhardt and Stemberger, 1998; Smolensky, 1999), which departs from the traditional concept of inflectional rule and invokes the use of phonological constraints, based on phonological analogies between surface forms of words and on different degrees of relevance and "violability". Borel, Marine. "Les formes verbales surcomposées en français." Thesis, Université de Lorraine, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019LORR0066.

Full text
Abstract:
My research consists in a semantic and morphological analysis of the so-called “surcomposé” verbal forms in French (j’ai eu fait, j’avais eu fait, j’aurai eu fait, etc.). The most frequently used and best-represented form is called “passé surcomposé”, such as j’ai eu fait. However, all the forms of the paradigm are attested to some degree. The passé surcomposé displays two distinct uses. The first one, known as the “standard use”, is attested throughout the French-speaking world. This type can be described as a resultative past. Indeed, through its “perfect” aspect, it points to the phase, in the past, following the process. Used in association with the passé composé with an aoristic value, which points to the on-going process, it creates anteriority effects (quand il a eu mangé, il est parti). The second use, referred to as “regional”, is only attested in the areas with an Occitan and a Franco-Provencal substrate. This second passé surcomposé can be described as an experiential perfect because it always has an “experiential” value that indicates that a given situation has occurred at least once within a certain temporal interval. Speakers who use these forms understand an utterance like j’ai eu mangé du requin as I have eaten shark at least once. The “standard” and “regional” forms do not only differ in terms of semantics. They are also different at the morphological level: whereas the former are constructed by auxiliary composition (avoir eu + fait), the latter are constructed by the insertion of the morpheme eu, which is an experiential marker, in the composed verbal phrase: avoir (+eu) fait. Of course this difference is not “visible” for forms constructed with the auxiliary “avoir”. It is however revealed with verbs requiring the auxiliary “être”: resultative forms are constructed on the model avoir été + parti (quand il a été parti, je suis allée me coucher), while experiential forms are constructed on the model être (+eu) parti (on est eu partis en vacances en Italie). As the form-meaning correspondence is absolute, the present work proposes a view according to which these forms correspond to different verbal forms and not only distinct uses

Abstract:
The augment in Homeric past tenses is an optional feature. In this thesis, I study the coexistence of augmented and unaugmented verbs in Homer, offering an overview and a discussion of the literature on the topic, and suggest a new approach to the phenomenon from a syntactic and textual perspective. The aim of this work is to describe, on a synchronic level, some of the distributional tendencies of the augment and to explore if these tendencies are related to its diachronic reconstruction as a temporal marker. Having first considered the phenomenon within a Comparative Philology framework, I then highlight the distribution of augmented and unaugmented verbs in Homer through a detailed investigation of scholarship on this matter. I then give an account of the different opinions on the reconstruction of the original function and morphology of the augment, also underlining how Homeric data can contribute to this general debate. The comparison and discussion of the various proposals suggest that the more reliable theory is the reconstruction of the augment as a temporal marker. In the second part of the thesis, I present a personal analysis of a corpus of four books from the Iliad. The textual analysis of the data shows that the presence or absence of the augment is often related to narrative effects or strategies. Syntactic analysis, carried out within a Generative Grammar framework, then explores whether augmented and unaugmented verbs have different syntactic behaviour. Results from this investigation illustrate that the syntactic distribution of augmented and unaugmented verbs constistently match with certain narrative effects. In the conclusion, having presented the time related information given by tenses as a complex structure, I try to discuss how the augment in Homer can be considered a temporal marker and I explore whether tendencies which have emerged from my analysis can be related to this interpretation.

Abstract:
This thesis focuses on the linguistic expression of feelings and emotions in a corpus until now little questioned in this type of studies, in this case the forms of instantaneous communication made possible by a new technology and that seems predisposed to many expressive markers. It moves the cursor studies on the linguistic expression of these emotional categories of the system to employment, interviewing a corpus formed by four forms of communication: blogs, discussion forums, Facebook and Twitter. The work anchors reflection cognitively seeking to show, in a dynamic perspective, how to build this type of discourse in mediated interaction. It studies the different linguistic and extra-linguistic manifestations that load these electronic writings an emotional dimension opening on a large interactive dimension. It allows reflection on the written / oral borders and the construction of a new expressive language specific to electronic writings. This language, resulting from the immediacy, spontaneity but also the technical constraints inherent to mediators’ tools, promotes a new discourse of emotions and feelings in this digital context and participates in the construction of a heterogeneous discourse combining the verbal and the non-verbal.Keywords : emotion, feeling, verbalization, discourse, CMO, context, interaction

Abstract:
The West Wing, Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip i The Newsroom.
This thesis studies the narrative strategies used by Aaron Sorkin in his television series: Sports Night, The West Wing, Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip and The Newsroom. Taking as a starting point the episode as an analytical unit, the research identifies a style and some persistent narrative phenomena in the work of the writer and showrunner, paying attention to both structural aspects and verbal discourse. In this regard, the investigation devotes special interest to the use and specific form of dialogue and monologue. Furthermore, this dissertation considers the contribution of Sorkin’s serial fiction to classic television genres. The aim of the research is to uncover a concept of individual television authorship by means of Aaron Sorkin’s technique and writing process.

Our study concerns suffixes used in the training of verbal forms. This work has allowed us to release properties that concern morphological, semantic and intonative dimensions, of these suffixes. We have studied in detail the form, the sense and the melody in verbal forms that use these suffixes for the expression of the time and the mode. After having known all the variations of all suffixes, we have past to the semantic study where we have tried to release modals and temporal values of these markers in the utterances borrowed to the daily language. From real contexts, we have tried to discover conditions that necessitate such or such verbal form to fill the good function. The intonative analysis completes the study of modal and temporal suffixes. After having analyzed the form and the sense at these suffixes, we have studied the intonative aspect of verbal forms through the utterances extracted of an oral corpus. The turkish utterance presents it self usually following the order of word (s)ov. But the speaker can change places of these elements according to demands of its context. Then even a predicate can appear in head of the statement. But, in most of the utterances the order of words is standard. They are at the end, and the descent of the declarative statement realizes on the last suffix of the combination. Therefore, what marks the operation of assertion, is the last marker of the combination. Consequently, this research has allowed to put in obviousness the fact that intonative variations that allocate the last two suffixes of the verb in the turkish oral statement are not linked to semantic values of markers, but on the contrary they indicate always the modal position of the speaker

Abstract:
Anna Akhmatova's poetical works have been heard of a lot in the past few years, mainly because of the celebration in 1989 of her 100th birthday. But if literary analyses of her works can be counted by the hundreds, to find something written about her in, let's say, a more semantical fashion can prove very difficult. A writer is nothing without his words, and among these words, the verbs play an important role, since their mission is to convey the action of a sentence. If one can dispose of all the verbs of a given writer, one is in a better position to analyse this writer. Furthermore, if this list of verbs comprises all the conjugated forms of these verbs, then one has a fantastic data base with illimited possibilities. A frequency dictionnary is a first rate tool in order to establish comparisons, and this is what I attempted to do in this work.

Abstract:
This paper investigates how language can help describe the quality within a product that make up it's identity, what's embedded in design aesthetics and what designers do when they give shape to objects. For this I have looked into research in the neurological phenomena synesthesia and ideasthesia which help us translate abstract concepts between our different senses. With this in mind, I have conducted a test in using personal traits to describe colors and shapes, later using the data to to describe three different design companies' design aesthetics. What I've found is that this language can't be objective and therefore cannot be used as a way of putting data in to get a finished product, where shape a plus color b equals response c. All without requiring a designer to make subjective decisions to make sure the tiny details and nuances get picked up. At the same time I've realized that this language is a good foundation for me, as a designer, to stand on and use to reflect on my decisions and give me clarity in my process.

This paper discusses the morphological means used to express verbal aspect in Resian. A marked difference can be observed between the native Slavic verbal lexicon, which mainly shows prefixation, thereby creating perfective forms, and that of Romance origin, where prefixation is almost completely absent and suffixation abounds, thereby creating imperfective forms.

Abstract:
This research aims to discover a different definition of interpretation and to prove that non-verbal communication is a fundamental part of interpretation. Therefore, an interpreter without a good knowledge of non-verbal communication cannot be a complete interpreter. The interpretation process is not only the process of meaning transference from one language to another; it is also the transference of the meaning of non-verbal communication such as; facial expression, tone of voice, eye contact etc. The problem of this study is that most interpreters do not take non-verbal communication into consideration, and they do not have enough information about it. This will be proved through an incident occurred while USA president Joe Biden delivered a speech in April this year for which all details of the reason illustrated clearly. The lack of knowledge about non-verbal communication can cause problems while interpreting or analyzing a speech of a president or a government official or speaker. It leads to misunderstanding and misinterpretation that might be embarrassing for the interpreter and the organization or the Media network they are working for. Non-verbal communication can be used in different forms, each illustrating or replacing a specific part of verbal communication. It contains many more figures than anyone might think in the first place. So non-verbal signs/Communications play a significant role in the interpretation. It is the essential base in the interpretation process; interpreters have to concentrate on these elements to carry out a successful interpreting process and achieve great interpretation results. The data of this study is mainly taken from books and articles about translation, Interpretation and Nonverbal Communication. The exemplification is primarily drawn from English sources, books and articles that have partly been opted out depending on self-experience. Therefore, it is analyzed through a questionnaire in which eighteen professional translators/interpreters are asked seven questions regarding the importance of Non-Verbal Communication in Oral Translation. In conclusion, the outcome of this manuscript reiterated that interpretation and Non-Verbal Communication complete each other; the latter cannot be perfect without the former.

Abstract:
In the present paper, we apply a debriefing technique aided by eye movement recordings to elicitation of clinical reasoning processes during chest x-rays diagnosis. It can be expected that this technique allows us to obtain elaborated information regarding hidden cognitive processes compared to conventional verbal protocol approach. Two experiments where medical tasks of 20 medical doctors (10 majoring in radiology/ respiratology and 10 majoring in surgery/acute medicine) on diagnosis of chest x-rays images were recorded with a video camera and an eye tracking system were performed. In the first experiment, each one of 5 chest x-rays having four patterns of cancer, pneumonia, normal and others were shown. A participant was asked to make his/her diagnosis decisions about whether each of chest x-rays. Immediately afterwards, a debriefing where each eye tracking recording was used as a cue to verbalize the participant’s implicit diagnosis processes was conducted. In the second experiment, a comparative diagnosis on the current patient’s status was carried out. Five pairs of x-rays images were shown to each participant. In each pair, one was a current image and the other one was an image taken a year ago. The participant examined the current patient’s status by identifying small changes with time. The debriefing stimulated by eye movement recordings was performed just after the task. Based on the verbal protocols form the debriefing session, each participant’s reasoning processes were traced. The results indicated that there were mainly four effective reasoning strategies as followings: Postponement of lung field interpretation, avoidance of preconception by applying redundant scanning rule, critical area revisited, and complying with one’s mental check-list at any moment. At the same time, one problematic strategy was also identified that can be named as “single lesion focusing strategy.” Based on all results as well as implications obtained, we discuss insights relating to effective medical reasoning processes as well as validity of verbal protocols/comments on eye mark recordings.

Abstract The importance of human-machine interface is widely acknowledged in accordance with the increase of the computer powers. In human to human communication, we communicate with each other by using not only verbal media but also non-verbal media. Especially information transmitted through the five senses is able to affect our emotions and feelings directly making for smooth communication. This paper introduces the development of a new haptic device driven by hand gestures. Since the device is molded with silicon-rubber with the softness of human skin, a user is able to make hand gestures with his “sense of force” by the transforming manipulations. The device is able not only to sense user’s twiddling gestures but also to display reactions against the hand gestures by vibration patterns. As an experimental trial of a tele-communication system, the device was employed for terminal devices, and questionnaires were conducted to evaluate the device in the haptic communication.

Abstract:
In Taiwan, instant messenger usage has become the third most frequently engaged online activity following web cyberspace’s web surfing and e-mail. Among different kinds of instant messengers, Windows Live Messenger (WLM) is the most popular software program. The purpose of this study is to explore users’ name-display behaviors on WLM from a self-disclosure perspective. The study employs phenomenological methodology to elicit lived experiences of using the name-display feature in the WLM. Twelve subjects, 3 women and 9 men, participated in this study. From 12 verbatim transcripts, after identifying significant statements, clustering the formulated meanings resulted in 9 themes. The key findings are: (1) Self-disclosure behavior exists in the name-display feature in the instant messenger; (2) Participants revealed disclosure topics to achieve self-expression purpose; (3) Social support occurred when participants identified other online users’ nicknames; (4) Participants revealed their nicknames for social validation; (5) Self-disclosures would not reveal messages that provoke threats; (6) In order to create a certain desired impression, participants would manipulate the disclosure messages; and (7) Silent self-disclosure with verbal forms is participants’ preference in cyberspace.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the peculiarities of the media content shaping and transformation in the convergent dimension of cross-media, taking into account the possibilities of augmented reality. With the help of the principles of objectivity, complexity and reliability in scientific research, a number of general scientific and special methods are used: method of analysis, synthesis, generalization, method of monitoring, observation, problem-thematic, typological and discursive methods. According to the form of information presentation, such types of media content as visual, audio, verbal and combined are defined and characterized. The most important in journalism is verbal content, it is the one that carries the main information load. The dynamic development of converged media leads to the dominance of image and video content; the likelihood of increasing the secondary content of the text increases. Given the market situation, the effective information product is a combined content that combines text with images, spreadsheets with video, animation with infographics, etc. Increasing number of new media are using applications and website platforms to interact with recipients. To proceed, the peculiarities of the new content of new media with the involvement of augmented reality are determined. Examples of successful interactive communication between recipients, the leading news agencies and commercial structures are provided. The conditions for effective use of VR / AR-technologies in the media content of new media, the involvement of viewers in changing stories with augmented reality are determined. The so-called immersive effect with the use of VR / AR-technologies involves complete immersion, immersion of the interested audience in the essence of the event being relayed. This interaction can be achieved through different types of VR video interactivity. One of the most important results of using VR content is the spatio-temporal and emotional immersion of viewers in the plot. The recipient turns from an external observer into an internal one; but his constant participation requires that the user preferences are taken into account. Factors such as satisfaction, positive reinforcement, empathy, and value influence the choice of VR / AR content by viewers.

Abstract:
The paper deals with the urgent problem of enabling better communication of IT-specialists in their business and interpersonal interaction using information and communication technologies, including cloud technologies. It is emphasized, that effective communication is an integral part of the successful professional work of IT-professionals, but in recent years it has undergone significant transformations, which have been expressed in new forms and means of communication, its content changes, its complications and volume increases, the need to improve its accuracy, and the level of understanding for a wide range of people. Certain peculiarities of communication in the IT-environment have been discussed. It is noted that typical forms of communication in the IT-environment are synchronous and asynchronous ones. The authors insist that during their professional career IT-specialists communicate in the professional community from a variety of positions and common types of task formulation can be expressed through verbal or symbolic communication means. Due to the specifics of their professional activities, IT-professionals often need to communicate using synchronous communication (chats, video chats, audio chats, instant messaging) and asynchronous communication (email, forums, comments) tools, hence there is a demand to teach corresponding communication skills at universities. Certain practical examples of teaching communication skills using modern technologies are given. Advantages of cloud technologies for better communication within a company or an educational institution are presented. Microsoft Office 365 services, which can be successfully used to enable better communication and collaboration within a company or an educational institution are analyzed.
