Abstract:

Abstract:
ABSTRACTContinuing education is the ideal mechanism to allow retired people to maintain their autonomy and health for as long as possible. Despite the importance of education in the development of human beings, very few studies have been identified on the need for continued education in older adults. This quantitative descriptive study allowed us to better understand the interests and the needs of seniors related to continuing education in French-speaking older adults in New Brunswick (n = 408), and to identify the perceptions of participants with regard to the benefits, the challenges and the preferences of seniors for continuing education. Study results indicate that the main interests of participants were for training in technology (computers), gardening and health matters. Given the lack of research in this domain, these results will be useful for future planning of continuing education initiatives for seniors.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Drawing on my leadership experiences in the academy, particularly as Dean of a theological faculty in a secular, public university (Université Laval), and my recent participation in the Synod on Synodality, I continue my reflections on the future of academic theology that I began in a Toronto Journal of Theology article on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Toronto School of Theology. I argue that drawing on the historical impetus of the creation of two Roman Catholic universities in 1852 (one in Quebec, the other in Ontario), theological institutions must think about social context and pertinence beyond the university. We cannot think abstractly about the development of our theological institutions. It would also be bad advice to consider it only by comparing them to other institutions around the world or by taking as a reference the criteria and strategies common to the development of university institutions. We should not exclude these approaches, but in this article I highlight the obligation to reflect in context; our institutions must never become detached from their social and ecclesial environment. After discussing the reasons that led to the creation of Catholic universities in Canada in the nineteenth century, the article highlights two challenges: the social progress of marginalized communities through access to university education, and the training of workers to the vineyard of the Lord, in particular the formation in synodality.

Abstract:
Over the past couple of years, we have observed the energy sector expand horizons and embrace transitions to alternative energy and scientific sectors. In light of that, it’s encouraging to see and review a continued focus on oil and gas exploration, development, and production across university, private equity, and operated contributors. In trying to complete the almost impossible task of culling down hundreds of papers into a short list of recommended readings, there are always common overarching themes that stand out. In briefly reviewing and sharing those observations, I saw that the topics below had many papers and drew much focus over the past year: - Advancing and improving subsurface characterization through integration (e.g., measurements and modeling) - Downhole monitoring and effect on production understanding - Advancing tools into harsher conditions and environments of hydrocarbon prospectivity - Laboratory measurement innovation and advancement, particularly in enhanced - oil recovery (EOR) and continued in unconventionals and in integration or combination of existing tools Interesting to observe was the lack of dominance that has been present over the past couple of years of the advanced analytics and machine-learning applications. Perhaps we have reached a point where we have achieved the fundamental development of, and base modeling of, prototypes and work flows, and now are testing the hypotheses in real time. The industry looks forward to the effect the models may have in real-time operational application results. Rock and fluid interactions and behavior significantly dominated the focus of the efforts of researchers and operators to test their scientific hypotheses, all with the aim of understanding what to improve, mitigate, or predict in terms of subsurface interaction, and then translate that to wellhead performance. As we continue to advance the capability in the laboratory environment to test downhole condition measurements experimentally, the tools we are using appear to be bridging the subsurface characterization with the production results. Continued focus on unconventionals is complemented with a renewed focus on conventional research as well. Beyond the primary upstream focus, significant progression exists with regard to midstream-to-downstream research and knowledge-sharing, primarily related to EOR and injection capacity. I hope you enjoy these selections, and encourage everyone to continue to expand their knowledge bases as well as develop further depth in disciplines about which they are passionate. Please continue to encourage one another to push research and application forward for the benefit of all communities. Recommended additional reading at OnePetro: www.onepetro.org. Abstract:

Abstract:
This marks the first of two Formation Evaluation features for 2022. The COVID-19 pandemic naturally has affected SPE meetings, causing many to be rescheduled or postponed indefinitely, but SPE papers continue to be a crucial source of technical knowledge. The selected papers explore simple and complex innovative approaches toward reservoir characterization to work around the absence of certain data. Paper SPE 203903 addresses issues related to safe and optimal operation of geoenergy applications related to induced seismicity as a result of pore-pressure fluctuations. The authors developed a finite-volume method with a multipoint approximation of fluxes for geomechanics and poromechanics that will cope with discontinuities in displacements, as occur in faults, on the level of discretization. The next paper demonstrates local calibration of a simple rock physics model that can provide valuable insights into the elastic properties, which then can be combined with seismic data for quantitative reservoir characterization away from the wellbore. The key, according to the author of paper OTC 30359, is the use of the Hashin-Shtrikman effective medium model with absolute upper and lower bounds for compressional and shear velocities of media that are composed of multiple constituents. The third paper explores the challenges of identifying and quantifying hydrocarbon sections because of little resistivity contrast between reservoirs and water zones in the absence of radioactive tools. The authors of paper SPE 202420 develop a work flow that integrates nuclear magnetic resonance with azimuthal resistivity to overcome the uncertainty of fluid typing and optimal wellbore placement. Despite the challenges our industry continues to face, authors of SPE conference papers continue to provide an important source of knowledge and experience. I hope you enjoy these papers and encourage you to visit OnePetro to find similar works that may deepen your interests and enhance your skills. Abstract:
Utilizing theories of Becker’s art worlds, Veblen’s conspicuous consumption and Bourdieu’s capital forms, this article critically examines the formation of a new art world of the traditional Chinese opera Kunqu, with university students turned middle class as identified consumers. It argues that the art world has been developed through the innovation of artists working within the tight ideological control of the market. Only artists who support party-state ideological evolution, allowing access to ‘central bank’ capital in the forms of university curriculum, opera house resources and land use, may continue to experiment and innovate before a new audience taste is nurtured and a new art world is developed. This article suggests that the rise of Kunqu reflects the political castration of the new millennium Chinese middle class, with their value and identity resting on a fantasized historical leisure class distinction and associated conspicuous consumption. The establishment of a new Kunqu art world exemplifies the characteristics of the Chinese art market, which is developed under party-state ‘central bank’ monopoly, for continued Chinese Communist Party (CCP) ideological evolution and legitimacy.

Abstract:
The trend towards foreign investments in Serbia has been in rapid progress in recent years. The biggest and most valuable numbers of investments are coming from Italy. The authors’ expectation is that the trend of Italian investments in future will continue; therefore it is of high importance for the representatives of both countries’ business sectors to under-stand and accept differences and similarities to the other country’s business culture. Research of cultural differences between two nations , which are considered like a frame of business culture, helps avoiding possible misunderstandings and improving business cooperation be-tween two countries. Having in mind students of economics and management, on one hand like future leaders of Italian and Serbian business and on other like representatives of the cur-rent education value system in the field of economics and management, this study consists of an application of the 7-D Hofstede Model. The application of the model takes place through the administration of two surveys done by students of Serbian Megatrend University, in Bel-grade, and Italian Università degli Studi Gabriele d’Annunzio, in Pescara

Abstract:
Student-oriented approach in education has received a comprehensive description in numerous works of Russian and foreign researchers and continues to evolve rapidly. The implementation of student-oriented approach, the information and methodological support of students throughout the training period are the most effective when used of electronic information-educational environment of high school. The purpose of this article is to analyze the possibilities of using electronic information-educational university environment of university for the formation of an e-portfolio of achievements. The following methods were used during the research: analysis of the scientific literature on the issue of research, experimental teaching, questioning. Long-term researches in the field of quality and competence-oriented approach to education, which are conducted by the authors, allowed to develop and test two approaches to the formation of a student’s e-portfolio: by learning outcomes or by type of activity. This paper will present the structure of student’s e-portfolio, a brief description of its elements, as well as experience of creating e-portfolios by students of the Pskov State University. We share the view that the e-portfolio is an expression of qualitative and multi-level assessment of competencies, measuring individual progress of students, self-presentation for employers. The formation of an e-portfolio contributes to the implementation of student-oriented approach, it’s an important element of the competence-oriented approach to education. Electronic information-educational university environment of university allows to realize all this.

Abstract:
In Japan, almost 40 per cent of employees are so-called 'non-regular employees'. That is to say, employees with a limited duration of employment. This is in opposition to their 'regular employee' counterparts who are full-time workers without a limited duration of employment. Non-regular employees include both part-time and full-time workers with a short- or intermediate-term of employment. The percentage of non-regular employees is on the rise in Japan and this is bringing with it decreased morale and productivity due to factors such as lack of job security. In addition, motivation is negatively affected by non-regular employees receiving fewer opportunities, such as training, for example, than regular employees. Naturally, a lack of training and education opportunities would have an adverse effect on motivation and morale. Professor Takao Maeda is based in the Faculty of Business, Marketing and Distribution, Nakamura Gakuen University in Japan, and is working alongside collaborators Professors Tomofumi Tohara and Shigeaki Mishima, who are both based in the Faculty of Business Administration, Osaka University of Economics in Japan. The team is focused on research that looks at how closing disparities between regular and non-regular employment could increase the motivation of non-regular employees.

Abstract:
Background/Context In 2011, the Georgia Board of Regents passed an educational policy that denies qualified students without documentation access to five selective institutions of higher education in the state. As a form of civil disobedience, Freedom University in Athens, Georgia, was founded to cultivate a space where students without documentation can continue their postsecondary educational pursuits. Research Questions The research questions that guided this study are: (a) In what ways does Freedom University serve as a sanctuary of teaching and learning from the perspectives of faculty members? and (b) What challenges and successes have been and continue to be experienced by the faculty of Freedom University in developing sanctuaries of teaching and learning for students without documentation? Research Design This qualitative case study included in-depth interviews with three founding faculty members. It also included document analysis that was based on historical aspects associated with the formation of Freedom Schools during the Civil Rights era and the concept of school as sanctuary to understand the pedagogical and philosophical underpinnings associated with the establishment of Freedom University. Through constant comparative data analysis, the authors uncover how Freedom University operates as a sanctuary for students without documentation. Findings The findings demonstrate that Freedom University is a postsecondary sanctuary school because it centers students’ experiences within the curriculum and embodies transformational resistance by both students and faculty. Conclusions/Recommendations The authors suggest that, by creating sanctuaries at a post-secondary level, students without documentation are afforded a space to continue their education not for a college degree but for the sake of learning.

Abstract:
The article discusses the features of teaching municipal law at the Faculty of Law of Moscow University. This was in uenced by various factors, the central place among which is the dynamics of ideas about the essence of local self-government. The issues of teaching municipal law at Moscow University are traditionally included in the range of tasks of the department related to the organization of state power - the department of state law, Soviet construction, now - the department of constitutional and municipal law. The teachers of the department have made and continue to make to the formation of local self-government and Russian statehood. Devoting their work to the problems of the organization and activities of local authorities, the teachers of the department, on the one hand, maintained the continuity of scienti c views, strengthening the traditions of the national state-law school, and on the other hand, they created the foundation for future statelegal (constitutionallegal) transformations, sensitively responding to the requirements of the time, and sometimes ahead of them. Special attention is drawn to the fact that the issues of teaching municipal law at Moscow University are traditionally included in the range of tasks of the department related to the organization of state power - the department of state law and Soviet construction, now - the department of constitutional and municipal law. Abstract:
One of the well-developed scientific areas in Tatar linguistics is dialectology, its main task being the study of the living spoken language of indigenous peoples, that is, local dialects. It studies the phenomena of folk speech that are not included in the literary language, conducts the scientific analysis in this field and determines the territory of their usage. For several centuries, consistent and systematic research workhas been carried out in the area of Tatar people's spiritual culture, the history of various ethnic groups, the characteristics of their language, their way of life and customs. This work, devoted to studying live speech, to recording materials related to individual subdialects and dialects of the Tatar language, to collecting factual material and its scientific interpretation, began in the first half of the 18th century. The scientific study of Tatar dialectology at Kazan University has a history of more than two centuries, so a wealth of experience has been accumulated in this area; the tradition of studying Tatar dialects and subdialects at the university continues to this day, being one of the most relevant and sought-after scientific trends followed by the Department of Tatar Linguistics. For the first time providing its systematic study, this article describes the formation and development of the Kazan University Dialectological School, which is the main object of our research. This constitutes the scientific novelty and relevance of the article. The study of the history of this scientific school in an educational institution goes hand in hand with the study of the scientific research of the outstanding scholars, who made great contributions to Tatar dialectology, leaving rich scientific and methodological heritage.

Abstract:
In this article we reflect on our engagement with a broad spectrum of dress- and textile-related artefacts housed within the Cornell Fashion + Textile Collection and Department of Anthropology Collections at Cornell University. In recent years, fashion critics and scholars have begun to address the biases and prejudices that continue to inform the collection and display of fashion within museums and academic institutions. In addition to museums of art, design, anthropology and history, universities have contributed to and influenced the public’s perceptions of fashion as an embodied material practice and a social phenomenon through the development and circulation of fashion- and dress-related teaching collections. Drawing upon our experiences co-curating a digital fashion exhibition about the development of two ethnological dress collections on Cornell’s campus, we discuss the opportunities and challenges that we faced working with these objects in a university setting. Our objective is to contextualize the formation of these collections and raise questions and critiques about the ways in which university dress collections have perpetuated – and continue to perpetuate – forms of discrimination like sexism, homophobia, transphobia, sizeism, classism, ageism and racism amidst an ongoing colonial context. We suggest possible steps for decentring the colonial gaze through digital curation.

Abstract:
This study analyzes websites of university-based Schools of Education and Teacher Education Programs, and points to the (intentional or unintentional) active role these institutions play in maintaining and supporting neoliberal ideology. The study uses a qualitative method to examine websites of 30 public universities, 15 American and 15 Canadian. Using a grounded theory approach, five neoliberal-related features are identified: marketing, business terminology, employability, economic orientation, and outcome-based approach. The latter two features were found only in the American websites. The paper discusses implications for each of the features, as well as for the differences between American and Canadian institutions. Teacher educators are encouraged to take the findings seriously as there is a concern that neoliberal trends and practices will continue to seep more deeply into Teacher Education Programs. Abstract:
The paper attempts to identify and analyze the main stages of studying the history of university education in the Urals. The peculiarities of studying the issue under study determined the specifics of the author's approach - the inclusion of works that explore the higher school of the USSR. The author divided the extensive body of discovered historical literature into 2 periods: Soviet and post-Soviet. During the Soviet period, the formation of the study of higher education problems in the USSR, including university education, took place. Monographs, collective works, and papers are actively appearing, which are written in a wide chronological and territorial framework, based on a large statistical array of data. In the post-Soviet period, research on higher education continues. There are papers, the authors of which analyzed the formation and development of regional higher education systems, identified their main stages. Certain aspects of university education in the Urals (specific universities - Perm State University named after A.M. Gorky and Ural State University named after A.M. Gorky). A body of memoir literature dedicated to these higher educational institutions has been identified. The author has not revealed any generalizing works on the history of university education, which stimulates him to further scientific research on this issue.

Abstract:
Nowadays, the procedures for stimulating the improvement of the quality of higher education in Ukraine are mainly based on periodic expert evaluations. Besides, existing metrics of university efficiency are usually imperfect due to the frequent negative effects of Campbell’s Law and Goodhart’s Law. In addition, the war significantly limited resources for external quality assurance of educational programs. Given this, the aim of this paper was to develop a methodology for an additional self-regulation system of continual improvement of the quality and efficiency of educational activities of Ukrainian universities. The study is based on the advantages of the quantitative approach, measurement methods, and algorithmization in the management system of higher education. As a result, key indicators for the formation of national rankings have been developed by different segments. Moreover, the study elaborated algorithms and mechanisms to constantly encourage higher education institutions to improve quality and efficiency. The paper proposes preventive procedures to reduce the negative effects of unfair achievement of key performance indicators. The result of applying the methodology is additionally acquired or partially lost by the university the volume of license rights for the training of specialists in the current year. This will help curb the process of mass education with a low level of quality. In addition, the proposed system will balance the weaknesses of the accreditation expertise procedure, as well as actively stimulate the independent striving of each educational program for sustainable development and continual progress. Abstract:

Abstract:
Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) is an innovative teaching methodology that engages students to resolve real-world challenges while applying the knowledge they acquired during their professional training. This article describes the results of the implementation of an online course on entrepreneurship that utilized CBL with a group of 20 undergraduate students from various disciplines in a university in Mexico. During the course, challenges related to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations were presented to the participants, making it possible to observe the students’ interest in resolving these problems. This research uses a case study methodology and seeks to determine the CBL elements in the e-learning modality. The results showed that the participants generated sustainable business ideas aimed to resolve local, national, and global problems. The recommendations are to continue the formation of the businesses proposed in the project. These ideas can become real ventures that connect various actors in the entrepreneurial ecosystem and will continue to strengthen transversal skills such as teamwork and communication.

Abstract:
The monograph Vanhemping E.G., Ivanishcheva N.A., Petrenko E.I. “Design of education in the University 4.0 paradigm” continues the cycle of books devoted to the analysis of transformations of education in the context of the challenges of the XXI century. Global trends in the development of education, philosophical and ideological foundations of educational transformations in the era of globalization, institutional aspects of transformational processes in the field of higher education are considered. Much attention is paid to the processes of internationalization of higher education and the role of transnational corporations in the field of higher education. The authors focus on the problems of training teachers of a new formation in the conditions of modernization of the education system. We are talking, first of all, about the formation of the “global competence” of future teachers, which is largely determined by the availability of resources of an innovative educational environment. A special role is given to extracurricular technologies, especially digital ones.

Abstract:
