Full textThe aim of this thesis is to study Ford Madox Ford, né Hueffer, in his various relations with France where he exiled himself since 1922 until the day of his death. The first part of this study (4 chapters) consists of an attempt to study the international review Ford founded and edited in Paris in 1924. The aim of this review which lasted 12 months, was to promote internationalism in the world of letters. Entitled the transatlantic review, it published french, english and american writers at a time where there was a large number of american expatriates in Paris. In the second part of this work, we investigate Ford's relations with Provence, this part of France where he lived for long stretches of time. It consists of three chapters, the first one of which is an analysis of the presence of Provence in Ford's best novel. The good soldier (1915). Follows a study of the type of vision Ford had of this part of France, as well as an analytical study of the place of Provence in the larger context of ford's vision of the world in which he lived

Full textFord Madox Ford held a major yet paradoxical stance within modernist. His relationship to his literary context is characterized by a vibration between the tribute to his artistic heritage and enthusiasm for the imperative of novelty mat defines modernism. The reluctance to inscribe Ford within the modernist canon may be explained by the difficulty to reconcile his work's contradictions and consequently to delineate a stable aesthetic System. Ambivalence is indeed at the core of the author's aesthetic project, particularly so in Parade's End. The tetralogy describes a contradictory relationship to its ideological, aesthetic and philosophical heritage and to the past; it initiates an irreconcilable dialectic between the ideal of a past inhabiting the present and the notion of newness that such nostalgia implies. The text conveys a reluctance to resolve the confusion it generates: it is thus impossible to establish a fixed line between the values of tradition and those of modernity. The fundamental dimension of negativity endows the text with a paradoxical dynamism. This work explores the tension between homage and derision that characterizes Parade's End, The nostalgia of a stable ideology, of a satisfyingly coherent narrative and of a subject that can be grasped as a whole, is simultaneously sublimated and derided. The crisis of ideological, aesthetic and ontological Systems of thought that is thus made blatant does not result in the development of an alternative System; it does not however lead to void either, but to lets us delineate a System that has yet to be created. The text is constantly moving towards an aesthetics whose contours are merely suggested

Full textFord Madox Ford is one of the most important figures, not only of English literature butof the Western European cultural and artistic world of the twentieth century. Closelyconnected with Henry James and Joseph Conrad (with whom he wrote three novels incollaboration), Ford played a vital role as editor, contributor to literary impression and aspioneer of “modernism”. Cosmopolitan by birth (English, German, French), this tirelessvoyager, torn between England, the United States and France (especially Provence, hischosen domain and Toulon), Ford is the author of a voluminous sum of publicationsmade up of more than 80 books and other items. The author of this thesis, Marine Bernot, has chosen to concentrate on a dozen or so memoirs covering the years going from 1904to 1937, focusing particularly on two travel ‘novels’, Provence and The Great TradeRoute. These works, which give an original insight into the first half of the twentiethcentury, introduce the reader to an original and complex personality – politicallyadvanced, feminist, non-conformist, ecologist ahead of his times, visionary –, a man inharmony with contemporary preoccupations

Full textThe corpus consists of two non-fiction volumes When Blood is Their Argument: An Analysis of Prussian Culture and Between St. Dennis and St. George: A Sketch of Three Civilizations, published during the war in 1915 (Between St. Dennis was translated in French and well received by the French government); and four autofictions including an unfinished text, True Love & a General Court Martial, started well before the end of the Great War but was not published until 1999; an unpublished book, Mr. Croyd: A Romance of Reconstruction (alias That Same Poor Man), completed in 1920, the manuscript is available at the Library of Cornell ( "Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections"); No Enemy: A Tale of reconstruction, mainly written in 1919, published ten years later, in 1929, only in the United States, and after several decades in England, in 2002; and The Marsden Case: A Romance of Reconstruction, published in 1923. The notion of trauma is implicitly as well as explicitly the main theme of these six books. It is generally agreed that the trauma is not the prerogative of modern times, however, the trauma generated by the Great War is extraordinary. It is not restricted only to the battlefield but affected a whole society, mobilised behind the war effort. The case of Ford Madox Ford, née Hueffer is unique in the sense that he is the only writer who crossed the abyss that opened up between the two generations of writers, on the one hand, his, represented by Henry James, Bennett, Kipling, Wells, and all those who participated in the ideological cause, and the young disillusioned generation of writers (Robert Graves, Siegfried Sassoon, Richard Aldington, etc.) who were betrayed by those they called the Old – political leaders and writers. This work, bearing on socio-political, historical, theoretical and biographical arguments, attempts to examine the painful processes of reconstruction and consolidation of the Fordian impressionist technique and its author, ‘shell-shocked’ by the traumatic experience of war

Full textThis research is relevant to Ford since it is about the elaboration of a campaign for a new product in the market which functionalities are highly valued by the target audience and need to be noticed, in addition to the need of covering a commercial objective of sales. Therefore, the objective of this work is to develop two advertising campaign proposals, one ideal and the other one with a reduced budget, that would generate the sale of 150 units of the New Ford Edge in the second half of 2020. The field work consists of the selection of a homogeneous non-probabilistic sample of 49 men between the ages of 35 and 55. The research has a mixed focus and the applied instruments are standardized surveys and semi-structured interviews. From this, the following was obtained: first, the target audience has a double perception of Ford; secondly, the idea of an imposing and modern vehicle complements the image their targets want to project; and finally, the consumption practices seek to satisfy two needs: personal and social. Hence the proposition of a modern twist through its technology focused on safety, which allows Ford to renew itself and keep up with the latest trends without neglecting the trajectory that the brand endures.

Full textThough they usually acknowledge that such novels as the good soldier (1915) and parade's end (1928) are masterpieces, the british have chosen to see in ford madox ford not a master, but a writer whose main claim to glory is that he was, at one time, conrad's collaborator. Over half a century, from 1891 until the year of his death, 1939, he published over eighty books, novels, essays, poetry, criticism and autobiographies. The study of his autobiographies - of which the english reader can only read excerpts - throws some light on ford's long standing alienation from any genuine critical appraisal in his own country

Full textFord Madox Ford is an impressionist writer who purports to be a historian of his own time and seems to represent modern life in a text conceived visually to make you see. He thus encourages a parallel between his writing and the nineteenth-century French painters’ art to be drawn ; yet he draws on a vast array of arts and aesthetics in his narratives to forge his impression according to his original and singular conception of art. That conception supports the artistic accumulation and association exercised in the novels while it shatters established aesthetic frameworks to merge arts and aesthetics in a form which adapts to reality to structure its formlessness and reveals it to offer an experience of it to the reader. In obeying pictorial and theatrical norms to be seen as pictures or in scenes, the narrative in fact discloses how modernity resists mimetic illusion. So painting and the theatre do not represent visibility but its loss, and the novels are forced by their object to embrace a thoroughly modern de-figuration which Fordian aesthetics endorses and the cinema realises. The latter then grants access to the vision of a fragmented and moving world totalled by the continuous metamorphosis of film, which besides encourages visual identification. However the cinema does not lead to the totalisation of the novel, nor to the dialog which the writer intends to have with his sympathetic reader in order to transfer his artwork onto him. That transfer does happen by means of the text and its structure but ultimately without figuration, through the music of the novel which at once governs, unites and abolishes representation, the arts and the text so the artwork be com-prehended

Full textThe need to increase the value of the Ford brand, with the launch of its new model New Ford Edge, motivated us to research and propose a 360-campaign proposal. The main objective of the research is to communicate that the New Ford Edge model is perfect for the target; For this, our strategy is based on demonstrating that the Co-Pilot 360 function is a semi-automatic assistant that will make life easier for the driver, making him feel cool and recognized. To collect relevant information, instruments such as: interviews, surveys and social listening on social networks were used. As an agency, we propose a methodology focused on 6 important points: Exchange, Knowledge, Ideation, Prototype, Optimization and finally the Measurement stage. As a result of this methodology, we obtained an advertising strategy based on creativity and media planning. As for the creative proposal, we focus on the Co-Pilot 360 concept anticipating the unimaginable, which was reflected through messages with fictitious resources to exemplify cases of everyday life. Regarding media planning, we opted for the choice of innovative media related to the target. The relevance of this research work is based on the fact that more brands can implement a campaign strategy appropriate to the interests of the target audience.

In preparation for an upcoming EPA proposal regarding Free Oil & Grease (FOG) and metal ion content in wastewater effluent, a study was performed for Ford Motor Company that assesses various seconctary wastewater treatment technologies. The three water purification technologies, membrane filtration, biological treatment, and clay media adsorption, were evaluated as secondary water treatment solutions for oily wastewater. Three different types of membrane technologies were tested: polymeric, ceramic, and sintered stainless steel. In regards to FOG, the membrane technologies and the clay media were able to reduce FOG levels below the EPA proposal of 17 mg/L. However, the clay media did not show a strong affinity for metal ions. The membrane technologies were 'lble to reduce all iron levels below the recommended limits (1.3 mg/L). However, they were not able to reduce aluminum below the proposed limit (I mg/L). This implies that additional downstream processing would be required to remove the aluminum if the membrane solution was implemented and the regulation passes as proposed. The biological wastewater treatment was not tested during these trials, but was assumed to be able to meet all FOG and metal requirements proposed by the EPA. Based on these experimental results and basic design assumptions, an economic analysis over a ten-year period indicated that the biological waste treatment system was the lowest in costs, followed by the polymeric membranes. The estimated installed and operating costs for both technologies was $800,000 and $1,200,000 respectively. The nearest alternative solution, the stainless steel membranes, was over 200% more expensive than the lowest cost option. Based on this economic analysis, Ford should pursue additional research and experiments into the feasibility of using biological wastewater treatment to meet EPA proposed regulations. More specifically, experiments should be conducted to help verify the assumptions used and economic results obtained in this study. As a secondary option, in the absence of additional data, polymeric membranes are recommended as the best solution, despite additional processing needed to remove aluminum ions from water effluent. In addition, the biological waste treatment option has the potential to reduce chemical oxygen demand (COD) measurements below the levels seen by any of the membrane technologies. None of the membrane technologies investigated were capable of reducing COD levels below 200 mg/L on a consistent basis, thus indicating that this might be a fixed barrier for these technologies. Although not relevant today, COD measurements might have significant importance in future EPA water regulations, and should be taken into account when recommending a treatment solution.

Abstract: The Uhlenbeck-Ford model, which is an artificial system characterized by a logarithmic and repulsive interatomic potential, was originally defined for the theoretical study of imperfect gases, based on the fact that all the many-body integrals, involved in calculating virial coefficients, can be calculated analytically. Thus, this model has an exact expression for the equation of state and the Helmholtz free energy in the fluid phase. A modified potential by a scale factor of this model was proposed as a reference system in the implementation of atomistic simulation methods for free energy calculation in the fluid phase. In this paper, we construct the phase diagram of the Uhlenbeck-Ford model dependent on a scale factor, finding the coexistence lines between fluid and solid phases, with crystalline structures (BCC and FCC). The stability of the different phases was studied by analyzing the free energy curves, which were obtained using the atomistic simulation technique of Molecular Dynamics, using nonequilibrium processes. Our results show that for any density, there exist regions in which the fluid phase is the most stable and therefore the Uhlenbeck-Ford model can be used as a reference system for free energy calculations of systems in the fluid phase

Full textThis work seeks to analyze the use of the emotional elements of storytelling associated with the product attribute to reinforce Ford's brand identity. We know that, in Peru, the offer in cars is very large, so each brand tries to communicate different things about its products, from tangible aspects of a car, to trying to give each one a personality. We also know that choosing a product like this is no longer very complicated, so brands must choose to communicate in a way that attracts the consumer and manages to reinforce their brand image. That is why storytelling becomes the best option. For this work we want to know if the association between storytelling and product attributes really reinforces the brand image, in this case of Ford. This is why, in the first place, we will analyze the concepts of each of the terms to be studied. We will start with the product attribute and continue with storytelling, branded content and brand image. In the same way, we will analyze the reason for the choice of the Ford Raptor make and model in the investigation. Finally, through fieldwork, studying the members of our target audience and professionals related to the case and the brand, we will discover if the association of storytelling and product attributes reinforces the image of the Ford brand.

Full textThe author of this article wishes to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the première of Sergeant Rutledge, showing how interpersonal relation ships are developed in this film. He studies the ontology and gnoseology of the film, to understand how John Ford is a real classical poet from the perspective of Plato and Aristotle. The film is also a true philosophical myth which builds and transmits the so-called Poetics of Aristotle (1451b), "the Universal". This work of Ford is essential as a vehicle of an anti-racist and integrating view of Afro-Americans in USA, in the context of the civil right's figths of 50' and 60' decades of XX century.

This thesis aims at developing a practical method to adjust product development metrics, which will enable effective management of the product development (PD) process. A set of good metrics is crucial to the success of a product, as metrics direct the development process by driving the actions and decisions of the PD team members which in turn define the product. Emphasizing or "weighting" certain metrics more than others can make the difference between success and failure. Through empirical exploration of metrics we seek to determine the weights, and the impact of different metrics on product success. Unlike its use in the engineering literature, the management use of the term "metric" includes both quantitative and qualitative measures which the PD team members can influence through their efforts. The theory used to determine the correct weight of a metric has its roots in the principles of Agency Theory and has been developed by "engineering" the theory to obtain two key parameters which define the weight of a metric. These two parameters are "leverage" and "risk discount factor" (RDF). Leverage is the amount by which a metric can impact the profitability of a product and RDF takes into account the inherent risk averse nature of the PD team members that influence their decisions. In order to evaluate the PD metrics and their weights within a firm, data was collected for a set of metrics across 17 programs at Ford Motor Company. The values for each metric were assigned based on information obtained through program documentation and interviews with multiple team members across various functions within the organization. Different success measures were collected and the impact and leverage of each metric was determined through empirical exploration of the various relationships. The key findings to date include: * Cronbach's Alpha for metrics regrouped using factor analysis average 0.7 demonstrating internal reliability. * Customer satisfaction correlates significantly with the rigor of the PD process, and internal coordination and communication between the core team and the other members of the value chain. * Time to market shows consistent correlation with profit and profit residuals. " The calculated weights suggest higher emphasis on capturing manufacturing need and using robust design practices, technology, and differentiation will increase profitability. " The measured RDF does not change the relative weightings of the metrics as obtained through the leverage calculation.
