Full textIn this thesis we consider the Epstein zeta function of Euclidean lattices, in order to study the problem of the minima of the height of the flat torus associated to a lattice. The height is defined as the first derivative at the point s = 0 of the spectral zeta function of the torus ; this function coincides, up to a factor, with the Epstein zeta function of the dual lattice of the given lattice. We describe a sufficient condition for a given lattice to be a stationary point of the height. In particular, by means of the theory of spherical designs, we show that a lattice which has a spherical 2-design on every shell is a stationary point of the height. We give an algorithm to check whether a given lattice satisfies this 2-design condition or not, and we give some tables of results in dimension up to 7. Then, we show that a lattice which realises a local minimum of the height is necessarily irreducible. Finally, we deal with some tori defined over the imaginary quadratic number fields, and we show a formula which gives their height as a limit of a sequence of heights of discrete complex tori

Full textPoetry is considered as the existencialact of linking the being to concrete and empirical realties, while questionning the abstraction of langage. Modern architecture bethought as te form / fonction formula, corresponds to this definition of poetics, because its concern is time and place. It does so, nevertheless, in classical terms or words. The thesis analyses this formula as set forth by its inventor, Louis H. Sullivan, and shows that his work participates to the myth of modernity. But, because it is fictional, myth is different from poetry, and is radically opposed to it. Whereas architecture taht builds the real and lived place, reaches the poetic being, an accomplishment which is but an answer to the old need for a shelter. Some crucial point of Le Corbusier's work are also questionned, where is theory and metaphors of modernity are a matter of myth, and therefore are but rhetorics of this construction of space which we inherited

Full textThe French National College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (CNGOF) guidelines considered that midpelvic operative vaginal delivery (OVD) are generally not recommended, but the available data, based on low level of evidence, do not justify a full contraindication of this specific type of delivery and that a case-by-case analysis is necessary according to the experience of the obstetrician. The objective of this study were to assess (i) severe shortterm maternal and neonatal morbidity after attempted OVD (aOVD), according to its classification (defined by fetal head station), and to compare severe maternal and neonatal morbidity specifically for midpelvic and low OVDs; (ii) pelvic floor symptoms 6 months after aOVD (midpelvic compared to low aOVDs), and to determine risk factors of urinary incontinence (UI) and anal incontinence (AI); (iii) male and female sexual function and maternal post-partum depression 6 months after aOVD, and, specifically, for midpelvic and low pelvic aOVDs. In our study, midpelvic aOVD (i) was not significantly associated with a higher rate of severe short-term maternal and neonatal morbidity than attempted low pelvic delivery, (ii) was not significantly associated with a higher rate of UI or AI than was attempted low pelvic aOVD at 6 months postpartum, (iii) was not significantly associated with a higher rate in male and female sexual dysfunction and maternal postpartum depression than attempted low pelvic aOVD at 6 months postpartum. Third/fourth degree perineal tears and maternal age older than 30 years were significant risk factors for UI and AI at 6 months postpartum

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to simulate the time history response of a high rise building under seismic excitation and provide simplified methodologies that properly reproduce such response. Firstly, a detailed three-dimensional finite element model is produced to validate its reliability to simulate the real behavior of the building during ground motions, recorded using accelerometers. It is proposed to improve the accuracy of the numerical model by imposing multiple excitations, considering rocking effect and spatial variability on the input motion. The use of empirical Green's functions is proposed to simulate the seismic response directly from past event records, without the need of construction drawings and mechanical parameters calibration. A stochastic summation scheme, already used to predict ground motions, is adopted to generate synthetic signals at different heights of the building, extending the wave propagation path from the ground to the structure. A simplified representation of the building as a homogeneous Timoshenko beam is proposed to simulate the seismic response directly from ambient vibration records. Equivalent mechanical parameters are identified using deconvolution interferometry in terms of wave dispersion, natural frequencies and shear to compressional wave

Full textIn the French social regulation system the place of justice has constantly been increasing, always dedicating itself to the punishment of the guilty individual but never really making up for the harm that has been done. The strength of criminal law has settled on the ground of the French administration under the media trends to simplify and trivialize our justice around its coercive basis. Thus, Criminal law fills the existing void as far as other forms of responsabilities are concerned (political, administrative or civil). Over a decade, decision-makers from the public sector (from the small town councillor to the heads of the state) have been sued for a range of charges concerning whether voluntary underhand acts or unintentional but reckless decisions. Thanks to its oblique capacity , Criminal Law tends to become a cathartic place where supposedly difficult subjects can be run. It reintroduces individual responsability in the process of the socialization of risks. A certain politicization has begun, it tends misinterpret the burst of the independence of the law as an impetuous and insidious compsition of a governement of judges, thus arousing the old battle for legitimacy between the judges and the elected representatives. Tracking down impunity could not prevent a durable immunity and the permanence of special courts of law, which led to a movement of decriminalization so as to counter some dishonest attacks on the one hand and a juridical parallel-when people were asked to vote-on the other. On the one hand, criminal law is a consequence of the relation of subordination between decision-makers and the magistrate's authority and the other it is a means of protection for those who have taken part in this repressive turn on behalf of the heads of society. Hence, is criminal law to be taken as a part of a public policy whose goal is to deal with poor running of its representatives ? Or is it a private claim from the individual who can’t stand their shorcomings and their lack of integrity any longer ? Can the clause of responsability of the heads of the state always be submitted to the mode of enforcement of a repressive law ? Can criminal law interfere in the field of political action ? Is it legitimate and lawful ? These are our questions

Full textBetween 2001 and 2017 the share of women in the senior civil service increased from 12% to 40%. The feminization of the administrative elites, and more broadly of places of power, has been a major social change of the past decades. While the mechanisms of women's exclusion are now well understood, feminization has been under-investigated. This is the topic of this dissertation, which is based on an ethnographic investigation and a statistical analysis on women who graduated from the ENA. How did it become possible for women to reach positions of power within the state that were historically monopolized by men? Who are the women who can access these professional positions at the top of the social hierarchy? How do they appropriate prestigious masculine roles? To address these questions, the dissertation uses two main analytical frameworks: an intersectional approach that articulates both class and gender relationships; and a sociology of family, school and professional socialization. The thesis sheds new light on the sociology of administrative elites, the sociology of the upper classes, and gender dynamics in places of power
Massiot, Jérôme. "Intégration de MEMS pour la réalisation d’ une antenne spirale à hautes performances reconfigurable." Thesis, Toulouse, INPT, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013INPT0100/document.
Full textThe evolution of radar and telecommunication systems needs antennas, which are able to adapt their performances in real time. Reconfigurable antennas can provides such characteristics through a reconfiguration of the frequency of operation, the polarisation or the radiation patterns. Besides, MEMS switches present attractive assets for reconfiguring a radiating element as they consume low power and have low losses. The thesis is about the integration of MEMS within an ultra wide band spiral antenna. The objectives of the thesis are: • To master the integration of packaged MEMS in an antenna • To reconfigure the spiral antenna for the achievement of a band rejection • To manufacture some prototypes and carry out experimental validations The radiation property of the spiral antenna has been studied. A reconfiguration of the spiral, which consists of inserting added elements within the radiating structure, has been investigated and applied. Spiral antennas with and without the reconfiguration mechanism have been manufatured and tested. The basic spiral antenna (without the reconfiguration mechanism) presents interesting properties: ultra wide band characteristics from 4 to 20 GHz, a relatively high gain of 5 to 9 dBi, and a low profile thickness of 3.5 mm. In practice, the achieved rejection has been difficult to prove due to the difficulties related to the integration of the packaged MEMS

Full textThe central result of this thesis is a lower bound for the rank of the group of rational points on an elliptic curve that are defined over certain Hilbert class fields. We evaluate various asymptotics of moments of quadratic L-series. Several solutions are proposed: a geometric one (equirepartition of small points) and an analytic one (shifted convolution problem, sums of exponential sums) have been discovered. This work is in continuity with recent investigation concerning equirepartition, subconvexity and special values of automorphic L-functions

Full textThe neural bases of human executive functions remain largely unknown. Recent data in animals and humans suggest that high frequency EEG activity, the so-called gamma-band activity, is generated during several cognitive processes. We investigated cortical gamma-band activity modulations in human during two executive processes, selective attention and performance monitoring. Recordings were performed in epileptic patients undergoing intracranial EEG during pre-surgical evaluation, providing measures with high spatial and temporal resolution. The results show that selective attention and performance monitoring generate transient gamma band responses across large cortical networks. Moreover, those processes also trigger focal gamma band activity suppressions. Altogether, those results suggest that temporally organized gamma band modulations might be a robust neural correlate of human executive functions during goal-directed behaviour

Full textThe main part of a static converter is the switch function. Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBT) are now employed in most of medium power applications and their evolution is turned towards high power applications, such as railway traction. Because of the high power densities dissipated in these components, electrical and thermal performance of a power module is strongly linked to its structure and its cooling system. This study deals with a process of integration in power electronics. The main goal is to improve compactness and reliability of power modules. After a presentation of the conventional structure of a module and the thermal concepts generally used in power electronics, we propose several solutions to reduce the thermal resistance of a module. First, an efficient heat sink was integrated in the module. The cooling principle is single-phase forced convection in microchannels. We propose a methodology to estimate the thermal resistance of multichip modules cooled with this type of heat sink. In a second stage, we propose a new technique of interconnexion for power devices, which allows to cool them on both sides. Then, a study of the substrates used in the modules is presented. In all cases, realisations and tests of prototypes allow to validate the model of the module and to show the feasibility of the proposed concepts

Full textWe divide this work in two different chapters having no relation between them. In the first chapter we propose a lower bound estimate of the canonical height on a certain family of Drinfeld modules having characteristic 0, depending by the dimension of these Drinfeld module algebraic points on the base function field (into a well-chosen algebraic closure). This will take us to deeply analyze the Lehmer problem on Drinfeld modules. In the second chapter we propose a strategy to approach the Manin-Mumford conjecture on uniformizable abelian T-modules, based on the new techniques introduced by J. Pila and U. Zannier for abelian varieties defined on a number field. We propose in particular a first step in such a direction by a new interpretation of the J. Pila and J. Wilkie’s work in order to obtain an higher bound estimate on the number of torsion points of a such T-module. This would be an important basis to a future development of this method, as in the classic case

Full textThe challenge of constructing a solver for the simulation of oil cooling in electric motor end-windings is the focus of this study. The initial segment concentrates on heat transfer phenomena of liquid film flow over a pre-wetted, complex surface. The goal is to understand the interaction mechanisms between the liquid and the intricate surface. A detailed analysis of the simulation results, taking into account the effects of varying parameters like Reynold number and Prandtl number. Following this, an accurate VOF two-phase flow solver coupling with a dynamic contact angle model is implemented to take into account this kind of geometry of windings where the liquid film flows over. Firstly, the Well-balanced PISO algorithm is developed, improving the calculation of gradients in the momentum equation, and modifying the Rhie and Chow algorithm. This revised method ensures that the surface tension force and pressure gradients are discretized identically at the same location. Additionally, the Rhie and Chow algorithm is modified by incorporating the surface tension force, to equilibrate the pressure forces. The Height Function method is integrated into the CONVERGE CFD code, replacing Smooth Void Fraction (SVF) for a curvature estimate. Subsequently, the angle derived from the dynamic contact angle model is utilized to modify the curvature of the interface wall cells. A thorough explanation of the algorithm is provided, along with the simulation test cases and their correlation with experimental data. Building upon previous work, a set of simulations are conducted to study the wetting phenomena of liquid flow over a flat complex surface. On this occasion, the surface is dry, and the wetting phenomena is studied. This part introduces the numerical simulation methodology used to model these phenomena, in addition to the simulation results. Detailed analysis of these results is presented, including the effects of curvature calculation method, varying the equilibrium contact angle and Reynolds number

Full textThe high HDL-C plasma levels observed in CETP-deficient subjects have afforded a rational to the development of pharmacological CETP inhibitors to increase HDL-C and to reduce cardiovascular diseases. However, clinical evaluation of 2 CETP inhibitors (Torcetrapib and Dalcetrapib) revealed that those treatments were surprisingly not able to reduce cardiovascular diseases. Indeed, these molecules induce significant elevation of plasma HDL-C levels and improve HDL efflux capacity, improving large HDL or small HDL particle function. These observations highlight the complexity of HDL function biology, which is modulated by many factors. Thus, my PhD work focused on the modulation of HDL structure and efflux capacity by clinical, genetic and metabolic factors. Furthermore, in the current context of CETP inhibitors failure, it is important to keep in mind the potent atheroprotective functions of CETP; those may be preserved to manage cardiovascular diseases. Indeed, this concept is supported by the contradictory conclusions reached by association studies between CETP and cardiovascular risk. Hence, CETP may have pro and anti-atherogenic functions, which result in either a global benefic or deleterious effect, according to individual metabolic context. Consequently, my PhD project aims to identify the extent of CETP atherogenicity in order to propose a relevant therapeutic strategy to prevent its deleterious effects and broadlier CAD development. My PhD research work affords a better understanding of HDL efflux capacity modulation by genetic and metabolic factors, highlighting that HDL-based therapy could have different effect according to metabolic and genetic context of treated patients. Moreover, as a putative explanation of CETP inhibitor failure, I demonstrated that CETP acts as an anti-atherogenic protein, as it improves plasma efflux capacity from human macrophage and modulates the postprandial inflammatory response

Full textIn the analysis of sinus excited beam trusses, a new method in the medium and high frequency range is studied. The frequency function is smoothed by the use of semi-infinite media hypothesis : modal behaviour is forgotten thanks to the suppress of return waves in the truss; the direct wave propagation is kept according to the concept of direct structural paths from the excitation node to the response nod; geometric mean appears to be strictly linked to this frequency smoothing method through the filtering of the energy cepstra. A method of natural smoothing of measurement frequency functions is proposed by the use of the energy cepstra

Full textPleated High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters are used for maintaining the containment of radioactive substances in nuclear plants; thus, they are sensitive elements of nuclear safety. Some accidental situations, such as the emergence of a hole on a pipe with release of steam, can lead to a high increase of the air humidity. This work can overcome the lack of analytical data in the literature regarding the behaviour of pleated HEPA filters, in terms of changes in pressure drop and efficiency, in presence of humidity (unsaturated air). Experimental clogging tests have been performed on a test bench with two aerosols: non-hygroscopic micronic alumina particles and hygroscopic submicronic sodium chloride particles. The results showed that the influence of humidity during the clogging of a HEPA filter depends on several parameters: the geometry of the filter (plane or pleated), the size distribution and hygroscopicity of the aerosol clogging and finally the interaction time between the aerosol and humid air. Measurements of efficiency of clean and clogged filters (at different degrees of clogging), performed with the normalized soda fluorescein aerosol, are also sensitive to the presence of more or less relative humidity in the air. Finally, all results helped to develop an empirical model for estimating the evolution of the pressure drop of HEPA filters; this model is applicable during the formation of the particulate cake in presence of humidity without reducing of the surface area filtration

Full textWe have studied the high energy statistical γ-ray spectrum observed in the fusion-evaporation reaction ¹⁶O + ¹⁴⁴Nd → ¹⁶⁰Er* and the influence of the γ-strength function on the production cross section of the evaporation residues. It was possible to reproduce the measured statistical γ-ray spectra in the framework of the statistical model by assuming that at all excitation energies, the dipole giant resonance. However, our analysis demonstrates that there is a very strong correlation between the parameters of this strength function and the level density parameter. The comparison of the statistical γ-ray spectra obtained at three different excitation energies shows that the high energy part of the spectra comes mainly from the first steps of the decay cascade in direct competition with particle evaporation. This is in agreement with the prediction of the statistical model. By measuring both the statistical γ-ray spectrum and the evaporation residues cross section for the same reaction, it was possible to show that using an energy dependent γ-strength function which describes the measured γ-ray spectrum improves the description of the evaporation residues cross section by the statistical model as compared to the results of more standards calculations where an energy independent dipole strength function at high energy could be a powerful probe of the nuclei far from the Yrast line but that to realize this, it will be necessary to improve our knowledge of the level density proprieties at high excitation energy

Full textTenofovir is a nucleotide analogue, reverse transcriptase inhibitor. It is commonly used, in combination with other antiretroviral drugs, to treat people with HIV-1 infection. The aims of this study were to estimate the inter- and intra-individual variability of tenofovir pharmacokinetics and to examine further the contribution of interactions with associated antiretroviral drugs, in a prospective population study. In a first time, a HPLC method was developed for the determination of tenofovir in human plasma. This method consisted of a solid phase extraction procedure followed by a HPLC with an isocratic mode. A double detection was used consisting of UV detection (260 nm) coupled online to a Mass Spectrometry (MS) detection (m/z 288). The method was validated in terms of linearity, precision, accuracy and stability. The lower limit of quantification was 5 ng/mL and 10 ng/mL, with MS and UV detections, respectively. The double detection allowed obtaining a more specific quantification of tenofovir. In fact, tenofovir can sometimes suffer from interferences if a single detection is only used (UV or SM). The present method was used in therapeutic drug monitoring. In the second part of this work, a population pharmacokinetics study was realized, based on database which was established upon 175 patients HIV+ receiving tenofovir. The data were analyzed by a population approach using the non linear mixed effects model program NONMEM. The study showed an important intra-individual variability of tenofovir elimination clearance which was strongly related to the ration of body weight to serum creatinine. The global variability of CL/F (apparent elimination clearance) was about 50% with, 20% due to inter-individual variability and 30% due to inter-occasion variability (different dosage occasions may exist for the same patient). Among the 15 antiretroviral drugs co-administered to the different patients, no interaction on tenofovir kinetics was significant. Finally, in the context of drug monitoring, for a given patient, the tenofovir does not require, in most cases, a dosage adaptation

Full textStudies of this paper are focused on the experimental characterization of concrete durability for Andra (National Agency for Radioactive Waste Management), and notably in order to study the feasibility of radioactive waste storage in deep geological rocks. In that context, the concretes are subjected to coupled mechanisms: stress variation due to cavity excavation, change of water saturation degree due to ventilation and gas pressure, variation of temperature due to exothermic waste… Therefore, it is necessary to acquire new experimental data for an adequate characterization of short and long-term thermo-hydro-mechanical couplings. Researches are carried out on Andra reference concretes made from cement CEM I and CEM V/A. In the short term, various tests highlight the evolution of multiaxial mechanical behaviour of concrete as a function of saturation and temperature. In a long-term view, creep tests (uniaxial and multiaxial) are performed to study the delayed effects of mechanical behaviour under temperature or during drying by small controlled steps in relative humidity

Full textComputer simulation is one of the pillars of Sciences and industry. Climate simulation, cosmology, or heart modeling are all areas in which computing power needs are constantlygrowing. Thus, how to scale these applications ? Parallelization and massively parallel supercomputersare the only ways to do achieve. Nevertheless, there is a price to pay consideringthe hardware topologies incessantly complex, both in terms of network and memoryhierarchy. The issue of data locality becomes central : how to reduce the distance betweena processing entity and data to which it needs to access ? Application placement is one ofthe levers to address this problem. In this thesis, we present the TreeMatch algorithmand its application for static mapping, that is to say at the lauchtime of the application, and the dynamic placement. For this second approach, we propose the awareness of datalocality within a load balancing algorithm. The different approaches discussed are validatedby experiments both on benchmarking codes and on real applications

Full textIn the first part of this thesis an analysis of the high-resolution spectrum of the HTO molecule nu3 band, from 3500 to 3890 cm-1, was undertaken. The rotational transitions of this band were assigned using combination differences. Their wavenumbers were analyzed with a least squares fit program in order to obtain spectroscopic parameters. A perturbing state was evidenced. With a view towards building a spectroscopic data base for this band, a calculation of the dipole moment function was undertaken. In the second part of this thesis, an analysis of the high-resolution spectrum of H2Te was carried out in the 4500 to 6000 cm-1 region. Two vibrational bands were observed which were assigned as the (30±,0) ? (00+,0) et (20±,1) ? (00+,0) bands. Rotational transitions were afterwards assigned. For the (30±,0) ? (00+,0) band, wavenumbers could be reproduced using only one set of rotational constants plus a Coriolis coupling term for the the upper vibrational state. In agreement with local mode theory, this clearly shows that the (30±,0) states displays a local mode behavior. This was not the case for the (20±,1) states characterized by lower energies

Full textThis thesis concerns the reconstruction and description of orientation distribution functions (ODFs) in high angular resolution diffusion imaging (HARDI) such as q-ball imaging (QBI). QBI is used to analyze more accurately fiber structures (crossing, bending, fanning, etc.) in a voxel. In this field, the ODF reconstructed from QBI is widely used for resolving complex intravoxel fiber configuration problem. However, until now, the assessment of the characteristics or quality of ODFs remains mainly visual and qualitative, although the use of a few objective quality metrics is also reported that are directly borrowed from classical signal and image processing theory. At the same time, although some metrics such as generalized anisotropy (GA) and generalized fractional anisotropy (GFA) have been proposed for classifying intravoxel fiber configurations, the classification of the latters is still a problem. On the other hand, QBI often needs an important number of acquisitions (usually more than 60 directions) to compute accurately ODFs. So, reducing the quantity of QBI data (i.e. shortening acquisition time) while maintaining ODF quality is a real challenge. In this context, we have addressed the problems of how to reconstruct high-quality ODFs and assess their characteristics. We have proposed a new paradigm allowing describing the characteristics of ODFs more quantitatively. It consists of regarding an ODF as a general three-dimensional (3D) point cloud, projecting a 3D point cloud onto an angle-distance map (ADM), constructing an angle-distance matrix (ADMAT), and calculating morphological characteristics of the ODF such as length ratio, separability and uncertainty. In particular, a new metric, called PEAM (PEAnut Metric), which is based on computing the deviation of ODFs from a single fiber ODF represented by a peanut, was proposed and used to classify intravoxel fiber configurations. Several ODF reconstruction methods have also been compared using the proposed metrics. The results showed that the characteristics of 3D point clouds can be well assessed in a relatively complete and quantitative manner. Concerning the reconstruction of high-quality ODFs with reduced data, we have proposed two methods. The first method is based on interpolation by Delaunay triangulation and imposing constraints in both q-space and spatial space. The second method combines random gradient diffusion direction sampling, compressed sensing, resampling density increasing, and missing diffusion signal recovering. The results showed that the proposed missing diffusion signal recovering approaches enable us to obtain accurate ODFs with relatively fewer number of diffusion signals
