Bordais, Benjamin. "Concurrent two-player antagonistic games on graphs." Electronic Thesis or Diss., université Paris-Saclay, 2023. http://www.theses.fr/2023UPASG072.
Full textWe study games played by two players, Player A and Player B, on a graph. Starting from a state of the graph, the players interact to move from state to state. This induces an infinite sequence of states, which is mapped to a value in [0, 1] by a measurable payoff function. Player A (resp. B) tries to maximize (resp. minimize) the expected value of this payoff function.Turn-based games, i.e. games where at each state only one player chooses a (probability distribution over) successor state, enjoy many nice properties. For instance, in all deterministic win/lose turn-based games, from each state, one of the players has a winning strategy. In addition, in finite turn-based parity games, both players have positional optimal strategies from each state.By contrast, concurrent games, i.e. games where at each state both players interact concurrently, i.e. simultaneously, to generate a probability distributionover successor states, behave much more poorly. Indeed, there are very simple deterministic concurrent parity games such that: neither player has a winning strategy; neither player has an optimal strategy, even a stochastic one. Inaddition, when optimal strategies do exist, they may require infinite memory. The goal of this dissertation is to give significant insight on how concurrent games behave. To do so, we study the notion of game form. Game forms arethe mathematical objects that describe the (local) interactions of the players at each state of a concurrent game. Game forms are defined by a set of local strategies per player, a set of outcomes and a function mapping a pair of one local strategy per player to a probability distribution over outcomes. Generally,in the literature on concurrent games, local interactions are standard (finite)game forms: the sets of local strategies are distributions over underlying (finite) sets of actions. In this dissertation, we define and study more general gameforms, which we call arbitrary game forms. Some of the results we prove hold even with arbitrary local interactions, the others use a standard assumption onthe local interactions involved.First, we prove general results on concurrent games, with very few assumptions on the payoff functions and local interactions involved. In particular, we consider a crucial result on concurrent games: Martin's result on Blackwell determinacy, which can be stated as follows. Consider a concurrent game whereall local interactions are standard finite. From each state, there is a value u in[0, 1] such that Player A's (resp. B's) strategies can guarantee that the expected value of the measurable payoff function is above (resp. below) any threshold below (resp. above) u. We generalize this result to games with arbitrary gameforms. We deduce from this generalization other results on concurrent games, possibly using standard local interactions, which could not have been obtained directly from the original result by Martin. We also prove other results on concurrent games, in particular results related to subgame optimal strategies.Second, we study how finite-state concurrent parity games behave in termsof existence and nature of (almost and/or subgame) optimal strategies, with very few assumptions on the local interactions involved.Third, we define subsets of concurrent games that enjoy some of the nice properties of turn-based games while being more general than turn-based games. These subsets are constructed via local-global transfers, which is a novel approach. Specifically, given a desirable property on concurrent games, we first characterize the game forms that ensure that all simple games using them aslocal interactions satisfy this property. Thus, we characterize the game formsthat behave well individually. We then show that all concurrent games that use these game forms as local interactions also satisfy this property. Thus, we show that these game forms also behave well collectively, hence globally
Thesis, Bordeaux 3, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020BOR30030.
Full textInteractive cinema, playable movies, interactive movies: all these denominations are the demonstrations of attempts to define a cinema where the spectator would have the possibility to interact with the narration by choosing alternatives. In this kind of cinema, the spectator is able to correct and modify the narration proceeding, because of the consequences of his choices. Since its creation in 1967, interactive cinema has not stopped searching for a stable form to define itself. Throughout the years, it has respectively taken the shape respectively of cinema, Internet and finally video games. This latter seems to have been the more stable form and has been for several years. Interactive cinema is, therefore, a promising interactive filmic form to be. This thesis leads us on its traces, bounding the lines and outlines and so highlights a marginal object which shows the transformations of the field of cinema. By establishing the story of interactive cinema, we will try to understand how this complex phenomenon, which is out of the traditional field of artistic disciplines, could have an effect on the convergence between cinema and video games. It is also question of studying how the interactive narration deploys itself and how it makes the spect-actor participate; to wonder about its viability in this current context, about the creation’s conditions of such works, and finally, to highlights the sociocultural stakes of this object registered in an artistic landscape where convergence media has become a common thing

Full textThe French-language poetry from Maghreb, and more notably its aesthetics, remains a poorly researched subject, despite the numerous works produced by several dedicated authors. The following research document aims to identify the native and acquired cultural elements constituting a poem, basing itself in a collection belonging to six poets who have crossed the Mediterranean and have established themselves in France: Malek Alloula, Jamel Eddine Bencheikh, Abdelwahab Meddeb, Zaghloul Morsy and Amina Saïd. The chosen period (1995 – 2005) allows a comparison between the formal novelty and poetry writing and their relevance to the duality of both French and Maghreb tradition, such as they are present in the dawn of the new millennium. The visual elements of a poem, as well as its vocal form and its enunciation techniques, are highlighted by means of a linguistic and literary study approach, using poetics and inter-semiotics. These indicate the elements specific to Maghreb poetry written in France, in contrast to both French poetry in general and French-language poetry from Maghreb

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to think about the possibility to apply the conception of language developed by Wittgenstein in the philosophy from language games to esthetic language. The interest for the late philosophy of the philosopher could not ended without a confrontation in the philosophy of the Tractatus. The author himself considers the possibility to understand the second part of his philosophy only at the light of the initial. In fact, the Tractatus establishes a conception of an unique language, in which the latter has the role to represent the real, and in sharing the structure. Consequently, all the normal jugements including esthetic jugements will be ejected from the scope of sense in the one of the unutterable and the mystic insofar all true proposition is sensible by opposition to the pseudo-proposals must imperatively bear on objects. The restriction of the sense and dicible is leading him to a difficulty, Wittgenstein establishes another conception of language, rather complementary from the first one, and this gradually from the thirties in which the language becomes tributor from several parameters extra linguistic in relation with context, culture and shape of life and this is precisely the concept of language games which will show the working of the meaning as use. From a few examples of paintings, we shall demonstrate how the painting its comprehension and its interpretation are submitted to this conception of language but also to the sense of the philosophy post-Tractatus

Full textHistory is the knowledge of men's life in the past. But the historian necessarily has a retrospective approach, in contradiction to life which is, by definition, forward-looking. In aiming to resolve this tension, historical knowledge involves the act of thought by which we act as if we were living in the era we seek to know. Acting "as if" we were living such and such an experience is playing. More specifically, the video game brings the player through representation in a particular universe whose consistency lies in the resistance and, on the other hand, the support it offers to the player's enterprises. The video game form is likely to allow the player to experience past times in the present. However, this specific form of representation has never been developed or used in a proper scholarly perspective, and it is far from being naturel for the historian to use it as the medium of development and transmission of knowledge. The epistemological review of its own resources leads us not only to question Ricoeur's position that narrative is the exclusive form of historical knowledge, but also to design a new kind of video game that allows us to experience ways of life of bygone societies ; the player's personal journey in this social space proceeds from interactions with non-player characters whose individuation process also results from the intertwining between enterprises of all characters in social relations which have historically defined forms
Minelli, Andrea. Thesis, Nice, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013NICE4107.
Full textThis work addresses the development of original numerical methods for the aero-acoustic optimal shape design of supersonic configurations. The first axis of the present research is the enhancement of numerical approaches for the prediction of sonic boom. The three dimensional CFD near-field prediction matched using a multipole decomposition approach coupled with atmospheric propagation using on a ray-tracing algorithm is improved by the integration of an automated anisotropic mesh adaptation process. The second part of this work focuses on the formulation and development of design techniques for the optimization of a supersonic wing-body configuration. An inverse design module, AIDA, is able to determine an equivalent configuration provided a target shaped signature at ground level corresponding to a low-boom profile. In order to improve both the aerodynamic and the acoustic performance, direct shape optimization techniques are used to solve single and multi-disciplinary optimization problems and a detailed analysis is carried out. At last, innovative strategies based on cooperation and competitive games are then applied to the multi-disciplinary optimization problem providing an alternative to traditional MDO algorithms. Hybridizing the two strategies opens a new efficient way to explore the Pareto front and this is shown on a practical case

Full textHow does the passageway from a corporeity socially allotted to a subjectively suitable corporeity take place? Observation and analysis take into account physical activities, food, dress practices and esthetics which define the privileged stakes of the social construction of the body, as shown through a follow-up within a period of time. To seize the post-modern somatic culture, the examination of 274 press magazines enables to distinguish six body esthetic models. An ethnographic study of Health Centers makes it possible to objectify the types of institutional order which conveys these models. Thanks to 57 interviews, the heterogeneity of the body practices which play with these models (and play about it) takes the contours of a typology where fragile and anachronistic bodies (those of the disease or old age) are confronted with bodies in search of physical excellence (in which the sense breaks up according to the gender), without forgetting the body-symptoms (worked by the bulimia and the anorexia) and the bodies burdens (of which obesity is the typical figure)

Full textThis research approaches the topic of the online games and more preciselyMMORPGs. The purpose of our study is to better understand how «the guild», a particular form of social organization to this kind of play, constitutes a favourable factor for the organizational citizenship behaviors (OCB’s). These behaviors are defined, through the literature, as discretionary behaviors, that go beyond prescribed formal role requirements and duties and which contribute to the overall success of the organization. Our study focuses on the organizational citizenship behaviors of guild members. The sample of survey respondentsaccurate knowledge of a different perception in terms of organizational citizenship behaviors. The analysis of the answers also shows that the guild members consider themselves more as organizational citizens than the independent players. These semi-structured interviews emphasized the bond between the guild membership and organizational citizenship behaviors by underlining the influence of two factors such as the affective commitment and the perceived organizational support in this process of mobilization

Full textWe are consciously or unconsciously influenced by scientism and logical positivism. So we asked a question: Can we speak of God today? To answer the question, we focus on two philosophers, Wittgenstein and Simone Weil. According to Wittgenstein, “Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent.” What he means by that is not that God doesn’t exist or that God is not intelligible as say scientism and logical positivism. What he means by that is that God does exist, but we can’t talk about him because of the limits of our language. But the lack of Wittgenstein is to look away from religious or metaphysical intelligibility. As for Simone Weil, she speaks of God in her writings and letters. What allows her to speak of God? This is our first point of interest. And our second point of interest is to define the mystical experience of Simone Weil, because the use of the word “mystical” in studies of Weil is rather arbitrary. Our third point of interest is to highlight the relationship between “non-reading” and intuition in Simone Weil. Our fourth point of interest is to explore the relationship between Zen Buddhism and the thought of Simone Weil. Through studying them, we will answer this question and, through Weil’s concept of intuition, we propose a worldview that is different from scientism and from logical positivism

Full textThe creation phenomenon within a discourse on creation – the literary and artistic production – is not self-evident. The task to define it as an object is antinomic; the experience of discourse is in itself creative. While written language seems often to “suppress” the author, the creation process actually implies a creative “self” who thinks, lives and transforms itself, and whose thoughts are overlapping into its object, which is thus “suppressed” because it is not outside of thought, but bound to it. This work, showing the complex relationship between object, criticism, subject and comment, is focussed on the “before”, “during” and “after” portions of the creative process, in an act of memory that stems from a literary performance about creation. From the shapeless and unconscious forces at its origin, to the its shaping, and then transmission, which gives it back its shapeless form feature, creation is in motion as knowledge is always captive of the work in progress. Tributary of Antonin Artaud, the text acts as an existentialist archetype of the artist and refers to him constantly to show creation without separating it from life and its experiences. To access the mystery of the creative process, linked to subjective, non-objectivable tought irreducible to linear discourse, this work focuses on the associations within the mind that proceeds, expressed through an ever present and exemplary “self”, tainted by experience, but in the ambiguous position of author. The processes of life, thought and creation are not only intertwined but infused by the “outside”, which is historical, global, social and in perpetual evolution. The creator's function is not to create based solely on his external knowledge, but from within himself – from his multiple selves and his mind filled by what he reads, what goes through his mind and inhabits him at a given time – to eventually shape a coherent text, a specific engraving of the soul as it marches towards the knowledge always hiding in the becoming.
