Abstract:
Google Drive-based reference management has just existed for easy access to referrals in mangrove ecosystem studies. Google Drive is a popular and widely used file storage and sharing platform. We can store, organize, and share various documents and files using Google Drive, including reference documents, scientific journals, and other essential mangrove resources. Cloud-based Google Drive allows easy access and efficient collaboration between individuals or groups in managing or researching mangroves. This service activity aims to create a mangrove reference database based on several topics using Google Drive so that mangrove observers can easily access it. Reference searches were carried out on the websites googlescholar.com and sciencedirect.com. The activity obtained 580 references from national and international scientific articles and mangrove e-books. The sorting results folder includes mangrove e-books, mangrove ecotourism, mangrove carbon emissions, mangrove litter production, mangrove carbon stocks, and mangrove economic valuations. Articles in the reference folder can be accessed via the link. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1km7IZDFURwnEabFOXnVG0e4SZRHxvWdn?usp=drive_link.

Abstract:
AbstractMartin Folkes (1690–1754) was Newton's protégé, an English antiquary, mathematician, numismatist and astronomer who would in the latter part of his career become simultaneously president of the Royal Society and of the Society of Antiquaries. Folkes took a Grand Tour from March 1733 to September 1735, recording the Italian leg of his journey from Padua to Rome in his journal. This paper examines Folkes's travel diary to analyse his Freemasonry, his intellectual development as a Newtonian and his scientific peregrination. It shows how, in this latter area, how he used metrology to understand not only the aesthetics but also the engineering principles of antique buildings and artefacts, as well as their context and place in the Italian landscape. Using Folkes's diary, his account book of his journey in the Norwich archives, and his correspondence with other natural philosophers such as Francesco Algarotti (1712–1764), Anders Celsius (1701–1744) and Abbé Antonio Schinella Conti (1667–1749), this paper will also demonstrate to what extent Folkes's journey established his reputation as an international broker of Newtonianism, as well as the overall primacy of English scientific instrumentation to Italian virtuosi.

Abstract:
NATS member Edrie Means Weekly has been a pedagogue and performing artist of both opera and musical theatre for over 35 years. In this article, Edrie discusses the audition process at the Kennedy City and in New York City resulting in her being cast as a standby for five Broadway stars in the 2011 revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Follies starring Bernadette Peters. Four of the five roles have large solo songs including the iconic songs “Broadway Baby” and “I’m Still Here”. The four songs were each written in a different musical style ranging from classical to full out traditional belt. As a vocal pedagogue, she discusses the styles of each song and the Vocal Stylisms or effects she added for emotion and expression to enhance the style. Edrie also includes one of her own vocal exercises she developed for herself back in the late 1980s to create laryngeal flexibility as she performed professionally in opera and musical theatre. She includes a couple of stretches useful for singers and dancers which were provided by Follies Broadway choreographer Warren Carlyle. Edrie talks about track cards and being a swing and discusses her preparation to build stamina to sing and dance a seven-minute tap song. Edrie Means Weekly’s article provides advice for those preparing for singing multiple styles in one show.

Abstract:
The import of proteins into peroxisomes possesses many unusual features such as the ability to import folded proteins, and a surprising diversity of targeting signals with differing affinities that can be recognized by the same receptor. As understanding of the structure and function of many components of the protein import machinery has grown, an increasingly complex network of factors affecting each step of the import pathway has emerged. Structural studies have revealed the presence of additional interactions between cargo proteins and the PEX5 receptor that affect import potential, with a subtle network of cargo-induced conformational changes in PEX5 being involved in the import process. Biochemical studies have also indicated an interdependence of receptor–cargo import with release of unloaded receptor from the peroxisome. Here, we provide an update on recent literature concerning mechanisms of protein import into peroxisomes.

Abstract:
In this study you will follow five different people's experiences of moving from North Macedonia to Sweden for work. The aim of the study is to find out what challenges the individuals experienced in the North Macedonian labor market as well as the reasons that led the individuals to leave their home country in the hope of a better future in Sweden. Furthermore, the aim of the study is to find out how the move to Sweden went, what challenges they have encountered in the new country both socially and in the working life. The collection of the empirical material was done through semi-structured interviews with my five interviewees. This method was considered most suited as the goal of the study is to  highlight the individual’s perspective and to allow the individuals to tell their experiences. The empirical material was then analyzed with the help of the Framing Theory, which aims to obtain a definition of the problem from the individual's perspective, as well as explaining the causes from the individual's perspective, to obtain their moral judgements of the problem and the causes. Lastly the framing theory wants to find out what remedies are suggested by the individuals. The results of the study showed certain connections and differences among the individuals. All individuals described a difference in if you work in the private or the governmental sector in the North Macedonian labor market. The private sector is described as more fair where competence is what determines your opportunities for a job. While the governmental sector is described as unfair and characterized by political corruption, which limits opportunities especially for one of my respondents. However, this is something that all respondents directly or indirectly have experienced. Other challenges in the North Macedonian labor market mentioned were poor working conditions and fear of unemployment. Another reason mentioned by two of the respondents was simply that they are tired of their jobs and felt that they needed a change. The most common reason mentioned by all the respondents was the desire to give their children a better future with the freedom to explore their interests and become what they want without being limited by the labor market. When arriving to Sweden, the language was described as a major challenge by several of the respondents. Other challenges highlighted are cultural differences. Learning the language is described as a great help. Both when it comes to being given more opportunities in the work life and to feel more a part of the society and culture. Support from family and friends is also something that is mentioned to be helpful when dealing with the challenges.

Abstract:
AbstractCustomer journey analysis is important for organizations to get to know as much as possible about the main behavior of their customers. This provides the basis to improve the customer experience within their organization. This paper addresses the problem of predicting the occurrence of a certain activity of interest in the remainder of the customer journey that follows the occurrence of another specific activity. For this, we propose the HIAP framework which uses process mining techniques to analyze customer journeys. Different prediction models are researched to investigate which model is most suitable for high importance activity prediction. Furthermore the effect of using a sliding window or landmark model for (re)training a model is investigated. The framework is evaluated using a health insurance real dataset and a benchmark data set. The efficiency and prediction quality results highlight the usefulness of the framework under various realistic online business settings.

AbstractThis chapter presents the methodological process built during my doctoral research about the expectations on graduate education and the consequent professional and community journeys of a group of indigenous women from Mexico. In this text, are explored the encounters with two women with masters degrees—a Zapotec from Oaxaca and a Maya from Yucatan—as an exercise to reflect on how to generate knowledge that considers multiple standpoints, that is collaborative, anti-oppressive, caring and follows a constant self-reflectivity. The text is also an exercise for a narrative that shows and shapes a methodological path throug time, exposing temporalities and contexts that are not fixed yet connected.

Abstract:
AbstractWestern culture tends to view depression more often than not as something to be avoided and eradicated. Yet there are individuals who have been through the journey of depression, diagnosis and treatment who challenge this view. In what follows, Jane recounts her story in which depression becomes a catalyst for understanding herself and her past. The insight she gained, in turn, led to self-growth—all of which she would not have gained had she not become depressed. Jane’s story also emphasises the importance of looking to the context of one’s depression—a view which presents a challenge to the current focus on the symptomatology of depression in medical manuals such as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Jane felt that understanding the context in which her depression arose, which she achieved through talking therapy, was key to her recovery. Jane shows us what we potentially lose with our current focus, and the value that may actually be gained from the journey into and out of depression.

Abstract:
AbstractMigratory pathways across the borders of South Eastern Europe have been commonly recognised within public and policy discourses as the ‘Balkan Route’ (Frontex, 2018; UNHCR, 2019). Yet those pathways do not follow one linear route across the official border checkpoints of former Yugoslav states – Serbia and Bosnia, to the European Union – Croatia and Hungary (Obradovic-Wochnik & Bird, 2019; Stojić & Vilenica, 2019). As often encountered by displaced populations, the journeys consist of perpetually moving onward and being pushed backward across diverse European towns, highways, mountains, forests, rivers, minefields, and camps, necessary to cross to reach western or northern Europe. Displaced people stranded in Serbia and Bosnia generally call their border crossing attempts the ‘game’; the term that conveys the daily mobility struggles, violence and deaths.

Abstract:
The phenomenon of British women travelers - the forerunners of modern tourism - deserves attention because of the motives of their travels, the directions of their journeys and the permanent mark they left behind, creating the genre of women's travel reportage - women's travel writing. What prompted British women to travel more often than other women? Barbara Hodgson answers this self-asked question as follows. The inhabitants of the United Kingdom of both sexes were eager wanderers and colonizers. Women travelers have left behind descriptions of their journeys in the form of travel reports, which are a source of geographical knowledge about Oceania, among other places and touristic conditions. They are also a testimony to the mentality of 19th century British women. The author uses the historical method and critical reading of this texts of culture.

Abstract:
While travelling to new places, maps are often used to determine the specifics of the route to follow. This helps prepare for the journey by forming a cognitive model of the route in our minds. However, the process is predominantly visual and thus inaccessible to people who are either blind or visually impaired (BVI) or doing an activity where their eyes are otherwise engaged. This work explores effective methods of generating route overviews, which can create a similar cognitive model as visual routes, using audio. The overviews thus generated can help users plan their journey according to their preferences and prepare for it in advance. This paper explores usefulness and usability of auditory routes overviews for the BVI and draws design implications for such a system following a 2-stage study with audio and sound designers and users. The findings underline that auditory route overviews are an important tool that can assist BVI users to make more informed travel choices. A properly designed auditory display might contain an integration of different sonification methods and interaction and customisation capabilities. Findings also show that such a system would benefit from the application of a participatory design approach.

Full text
Abstract:
The factors that make cast austenitic stainless steel (CASS) a good candidate for use in primary piping systems have significantly hampered the ability to detect, locate, and size flaws within the material. The difficulties in effectively inspecting CASS piping has been mirrored in the challenges associated with the development of CASS inspection requirements. Since the early 1970’s the United States Federal Regulations have made the Section XI inservice inspection (ISI) rules of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code a mandatory requirement for all operating nuclear power plants. Section XI of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code requires that the pressure boundary system of all light water reactors be inspected using a volumetric technique. However, the inhomogeneous coarse-grain structure and elastic anisotropy of the CASS material can produce beam skewing and distortion, high background noise, and uncertainty in the propagation velocity of the ultrasound beam. The difficulties associated with reliability detecting and sizing flaws in CASS material have been well known since the late 1970’s. To date there are no qualified procedures, equipment, or personnel or performance demonstration requirements for the UT examination of CASS pressure-retaining welds. Until Section XI, Appendix VIII qualification requirements are developed licensees will continue to follow the rules of Appendix III for the inspection of CASS material. In recent years there have been significant advances in the development of Section XI requirements for the inspection of CASS. This paper reviews the long and difficult journey, the changing strategies and approaches, the driving forces, and the anticipated new Code requirements for the inspection of CASS.

Abstract:
This work is part of a research project called NewMob, funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR) and supervised by Université Paris Cité and Ergocentre. In France, we are witnessing strong growth in the number and type of Personal Light Electric Véhicule (PLEVs), as well as an increase in the number and severity of accidents involving these users. (Osnir, 2023) As a result, there is a general need for more knowledge about the behaviors of the various users of PLEVs and the risk situations they encounter on their journeys. The research question we will develop in this article is therefore as follows: To what extent can taking human factors into account in the risk situations encountered by users of new mobility help to improve their safety in the city?To investigate this question, we have set up three long-term studies in France's three biggest cities: Paris, Lyon and Marseille. These studies are part of the ergonomic analysis of human activity. (Leplat, 2015) Field methods were used to track and analyze the journeys of 150 participants: 65 electric bikes, 60 electric scooters and 25 gyroroues. Over a 2-month period, participants recorded all their daily journeys (video and data), and were able to report any risky situations they encountered during their journeys. For each situation, the participant had to fill in a detailed form, enabling us to analyze a total of around 955 risky situations collected. Two self-confrontation interviews enabled us to analyze the participants' situated experience of risky situations, their ways of dealing with incidents, and the strategies and compromises they implemented during their journeys.Vehicle dynamic data were recorded for a total of 9,124 trips, covering a distance of over 33,000 kilometers. This data include acceleration, speed, braking and lateral variations, enabling us to gather a wealth of statistical data, and to objectively qualify the criteria for identifying a high-risk situation (emergency avoidance, braking force, etc.). A major challenge of this project is to be able to cross-analyze the subjective data collected during interviews with objective vehicle dynamics data, enabling us to establish a complete overview of the different risk situations encountered by users of new urban mobility in France. Initial results are emerging from ongoing data analysis, and we will be able to present in greater detail the cross-profiling of participants across the various study methods (type of vehicle, number of risky situations, severity of situations, average speed of journeys, speeds in risky situations, participants' relationship to risk, etc.). Additionally, we will present the results of analyses on the main types of risky situations encountered by participants, along with comparisons between the different cities analyzed.

Crow, Franklin C. "Vision Research Applied to Computer-Synthesized Imagery." In Applied Vision. Washington, D.C.: Optica Publishing Group, 1989. http://dx.doi.org/10.1364/av.1989.wc2.

Abstract:
Computer Graphics has always drawn on vision research although often rather indirectly. From the beginning, issues such as flicker fusion and resolution had to be considered in designing systems for computer graphics. However, there was a large body of experience and well-established standards from the cinema and television industries to provide guidelines. Later, when research focused more on the attainment of realism in images computed from numeric models, issues were raised which required a more basic understanding of vision. Currently, while the community, as a whole, is aware of the importance of underlying principles of vision, there is little reference to vision research in journals and conferences on computer graphics. On the other hand, many advances in computer graphics were based on results found in the vision literature. A few examples follow.

Abstract:
This repository contains various short driving scenarios of our vehicle fleet in 1:14 scale. These are part of our digital learning factory "Wildauer Maschinen Werke" (www.th-wildau.de/wmw) and are used for the development of autonomous driving functions. The data is recorded in the form of Rosbags in the underlying robotic operating system (www.ros.org) and can be played in their own ROS server instances, whereby the recorded journeys of the vehicles can be simulated and used for their own developments. The scenarios contain short driving scenarios with so-called ROS topics. This includes engine and steering control and frontal distance measurements of an ultrasonic sensor. Videos are also provided for each scenario for a better overview. It is the 1st generation. Towards the end of 2020, data sets will follow that additionally contain camera data, GPS coordinates and speed as well as laser scanner data.

Rogers, Amanda. The Seven Colours Festival: Young People and Civic Participation in the Arts. Swansea University, July 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.23889/sureport.66346.

Full text
Abstract:
Based on our previous research (Rogers et al 2021) we noticed a difference between how artists think the arts relate to society, and how young people imagine this relationship. Young people wanted to see (and connected most strongly to) art works that more immediately engaged with the pressing social issues of Cambodia, many of which are political – including climate change, the expression of identity and human rights (e.g. LGBTQ identity), corruption and scams, and democracy. However, artists, particularly in the performing arts and music sectors, must walk a tightrope in making works that address this kind of content, with incidents of censorship most likely to occur in music (Brennert and Yean 2023). This raises the question of how the arts can connect to society, and the possibilities and limitations of this relationship. This project follows on from our initial findings, focusing on young people who may not have much experience of the arts. It considers how the arts may work for young people as a form of civic participation and what that might look like in Cambodia. To do this it traced the journey of four young interns in producing a youth festival (the 7 Colours Festival) during the course of 2023 for Cambodian Living Arts (CLA). We examined their participation in creating the event, how they connected the festival to the social concerns of young people, and evaluated how young people participated in the festival. Alarcón, Lía, Patricia Alata, Mariana Alegre, Tamara Egger, Rosario Fassina, Analía Hanono, Carolina Huffmann, Lucía Nogales, and Carolina Piedrafita. Citizen-Led Urbanism in Latin America: Superbook of civic actions for transforming cities. Inter-American Development Bank, November 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0004582.

Full text
Abstract:
This is a publication about citizen-led urbanism processes in Latin America. It follows the recent life of a movement originating from, and driven by and for citizens, who out of a compelling love for their cities, have brought together actors from all fields to co-create new, more inclusive and equitable public space models. By using tools such as innovation, creativity and co-responsible solidarity, citizen-led urbanism has been able to complement the traditional approaches to urban planning and city governance. This publication also invites us to move from the theory and concepts that provide the rationale for citizen-led urbanism to the actual practical experiences which are helping to shape it and consolidate it as a regional movement. It thus takes us on a journey through successful projects developed in different places and contexts of Latin America and looks at the experience of the first urban innovation labs, as a means to consider the paths that may lead to new horizons of an inclusive future, in view of the challenges, both known and yet to be known, of the first half of the 21st century. In less than one decade, with their impressive diversity and vigorous urban activity, members of the citizen-led urbanism movement have brought about changes in the streets, neighborhoods and cities where they live: changes in the way of thinking of authorities and fellow citizens; changes in public policies, which have an impact not only on the urban landscape, but also on how we relate to each other through our relationship with what we call “the urban” and with ecosystems, with our individual needs and with the urgency of organizing ourselves collectively to identify solutions for the common good. This is why this book became a superbook, i.e., an extensive compilation about a fabulous collective adventure, undertaken by thousands of people whose common denominator is creativity and their will to think and do things differently. We hope it may serve as an inspiration to its readers so that they, too, may take a leading role in this story.
