Shao, Luyin. "A STUDY OF ACCULTURATION IN CHINESE-MONGOLIAN ER’RENTAI FOLK OPERA." UKnowledge, 2017. http://uknowledge.uky.edu/music_etds/94.

Full text
Abstract:
Er’rentai, or Mongolian dance and song duets, is a genre of folk opera in the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region. Er’rentai performances can be categorized into two styles—the “western-style” and the “eastern-style.” The aim of this thesis is to explore the acculturation in Chinese-Mongolian er’rentai genre in the following ways. First, I address the historical background of the western-style er’rentai. Then, I draw on fieldwork with Huo Banzhu, a famous er’rentai musician, to introduce contemporary state of er’rentai's development. Finally, I employ musical analysis to demonstrate the borrowings of Mongolian music and culture in the formation and transmission of Chinese-Mongolian er’rentai.

Abstract:
The author investigates the voice in diverse genres and styles, documenting and interpreting vocal performance through a contextual analysis of specifically chosen repertoire. This repertoire is drawn from collaboration with two musical groups, the Renaissance Players and Coda and from the author's artistic direction and presentation of four diverse recitals: American Songs, Italian Baroque, American Folk and Theatre and Nostalgia. Each recital is treated as a separate case study, in which the process of selecting, rehearsing and performing the repertoire is closely examined. Recordings and selected examples of scores are included to illustrate the findings. The discussion concludes with a synthesis of context and process within the framework of a global perspective celebrating diversity.

Kull, Hanna.

Abstract:
I have by a self-observation studied how I as a fiddler from the province of Värmland have worked to learn to play the Ranungspolskorna by Jon Erik Öst. The aim has been to study my own learning process by studying music from a different tradition with sheet notes as a master. A central issue in my work has been to find out if the previous knowledge I already have is enough to play the new music tradition or what new knowledge I need to add to succeed. I have been using video recording, audio recording and writing logbook to document what has happened, and this material forms the basis of my results. The theoretical perspective underpinning the work is master learning, but with focus on the cooperation between myself, my instrument and the sheet notes, and no another person acting as the master in the study. Finally I present the result of the study under two headings. The first one presents the learning process and the second gives concrete examples of the differences and similarities between the folk music genre from the provinces of Värmland and Hälsingand. The result is then discussed in relation to the previous research and background literature used in the present study.

David, Fabrice.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis focuses on the process of choreographic creation of a folk dance performance in Brittany. It is based on fieldwork conducted in Kevrenn Alré, a Breton music and dance ensemble based in Auray in Morbihan, from November 2010 to November 2012. Like most Breton groups, Kevrenn Alré create their show to compete in the annual contest organized by the folk dance organization to which they belong. The research analyses the collective activities and modes of production implemented during the creation of the performance Abenn dimeurh on the theme of the preparations for a wedding in the Auray region around 1900.The ethnographic description of a dance contest and the analysis of Kevrenn Alré's internal dynamics first allow us to understand the group's relationship to its socio-cultural environment and to examine how the competitive framework shapes the creative process of a show. The making of Abenn Dimeurh is then observed by investigating the various steps organized by the choreographers: finding the theme, collecting data, presenting the project to the dancers, making and staging the choreographic score. This observation highlights the way Kevrenn Alré's leaders, in order to carry out their artistic project, must articulate a clearly organized creative process and a collective organization of activities. Throughout the process, various forms of cooperation are initiated, showing that the actors consider the notion of being and working together around a common vision of joint endeavour and shared responsibilities. The analysis shows that the definition of artistic work as a collective activity is operative in the context of Breton folk dance performance, taking into account the specificities of voluntary associations. In this environment, the members of Kevrenn Alré struggle to bring together the pleasure of shared activities and success in the contest. From all this, it emerges that the creative process leaves its imprint on the production by generating a performance that expresses their vision of Breton culture

Full text
Abstract:
Investigated in this thesis are the possibilities and effects of reducing CAN data collected from forklifts. The purpose of reducing the data was to create the possibility of exporting and managing data for multiple forklifts and a relatively long period of time. For doing that was an autoregressive filter implemented for filtering and decimating data. Connected to the decimation was also the aim of generating a data set that could be used for analyzing lift sequences and in particular the usage of fork adjustment functions during lift sequences. The findings in the report are that an AR (18) model works well for filtering and decimating the data. Information losses are unavoidable but kept at a relatively low level, and the size of data becomes manageable. Each row in the decimated data is labeled as belonging to a lift sequence or as not belonging to a lift sequence given a manually specified definition of the lift sequence event. From the lift sequences is information about the lift like number of usages of each fork adjustment function, load weight and fork height gathered. The analysis of the lift sequences gave that the lift/lower function on average is used 4.75 times per lift sequence and the reach function 3.23 times on average. For the side shift the mean is 0.35 per lift sequence and for the tilt the mean is 0.10. Moreover, it was also found that the struggling time on average is about 17 % of the total lift sequence time. The proportion of the lift that is struggling time was also shown to differ between drivers, with the lowest mean proportion being 7 % and the highest 30 %.

______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
In this work we address the problem of analyzing stochastic processes through founded symmetry tools: we have explored the concept of Fock space representation to deal with stochastic spin lattices and used the Lie symmetry machinery to obtain generalized transport equations. In the realm of Fock space, we have developed a formalism to treat stochastic fermion-like lattices, following in parallel with the counterpart approach for the case of bosons. As an application, we have considered the d-dimensional linear Glauber model, deriving its magnetization and two-point correlation function in terms of creation and annihilation operators. In order to enlarge a class of transport equations with a logarithmic inhomogeneity of the diffusion coefficient, we have used the symmetry approaches. Starting from a reaction-diffusion equation with 4-dimensional symmetry algebra, we solved the inverse problem, namely, we have found all equations in a given class that are invariant under this symmetry algebra. The class we primary considered is that of nonlinear Fokker-Planck equations for which the source term is a monomial in the distribution function. We have also applied this approach to find a class of porous medium-like equations in which the logarithmic behavior still holds for both diffusity and nonlinear source terms. Some invariant solutions for particular cases of these generalized transport equations are presented.

In the city of Gravatá, state of Pernambuco, a cloth hand-sewed doll is the local symbol and widens the borders for being commercialized in other countries. This research, through the perspective of Folk communication (a theory conceived by the journalist Luiz Beltrão in the 1960's to study popular-level communication procedures), aims at understanding the mediatic scenarios, contexts and processes that involve production, sale and comprehension of the meanings acquired by "Gravatá’s Lucky Doll", as well as the sort of contribution it enables to local development. As for data collection one has used: field, bibliographic and documentary researches, besides publications on the internet, interviews, photo records and interviews with social actors in charge of manufacturing and commercializing the object. Through these elements, one has revealed the aspects that justify the popularity of such lucky doll and its plural significations. This study comprises cultural and social content, symbolic and discursive content, re-signification, re-functionalization and reconversion, as well as folkmarketing, marketing and institutional communication strategies which influence the object, thus leading to visualize to what extent the lucky doll may represent and foster local development.

Grisewood, Jane. "Marking time : investigating drawing as a performative process for recording temporal presence and recalling memory through the line, the fold and repetition." Thesis, University of the Arts London, 2010. http://ualresearchonline.arts.ac.uk/6509/.

Full text
Abstract:
This research seeks to identify drawing as an alternative exemplar for investigating memory and temporal presence, while determining its potential as a performative tool for negotiation and transformation, throught the line, fold and repetition. The aim is to position drawing in the dynamics of movement, using the journey as a trope and the physical act of repeating the line to evoke memory and disrupt concepts of linear, orderly time. The investigation, driven by my ongoing practice and concerns of dislocation and exile, was inspired and informed by Gilles Deleuze's notion of 'becoming' as a fluid in-between. His reading of memory through Henri Bergson (habit and pure) and Marcel Proust(voluntary and involuntary), provided the context for examining drawing's memorial potency along a past-present-future continuum. Deleuze's ontology provided a reflective and reflecive methodology for addressing my own work alongside artists who share similar concerns. My practice focused on not what the line is but what it can do or be, where drawing is predicated on touch and derived from thought and memory, rather than appearance or observation. Inside the studio and outdoors in the landscape, moving between familiar yet changed places. I marked the paradoxical experience of time, its flows and ruptures. The resulting body of drawings and photographic records offer the principal outcome of this inquiry. The research findings present drawing as a fluid multiplicity that shifts between the haptic and optic, visible and invisible, control and chance, notation and photography, studio and street, with one often constituting the other. The condition of 'seeing' is not a prerequisite; drawing exists with and without seeing. It resides in a gap between, where time itself unfolds and things are forgotten as well as remembered, liminal and open-ended. This thesis proposes a new theoretical understanding of drawing as generative of memory and a process of continual negotiation and temporal becoming.

Abstract:
The theme of this work is the interrelation of art music composers with musical cultures around the world, from the 20th century onwards. The focus concerns on the compositional aspects that were developed from this exchange. The main research cutting is the production of the Brazilian composers from the 80s. Additionally, other periods were commented on, to deal with the processes involved in the cultural interrelations in a broader way, be it in terms of inspiration, influence, appropriation and representation of elements of theses cultures, or in what concerns to conceptual questions of affectivity, originality, authenticity, identity and sociocultural domination. For this purpose, primarily, bottlenecks related to the modes of interrelation and incorporation, as well as to the terminologies found in the literature were discussed. Next, a contextual panorama of the occurrences of these exchanges in the erudite repertoire, national and international, was proposed. Finally, a series of Brazilian authors\' work analyses is presented, composed in the last 35 years. It is intended to demonstrate that both the creative possibilities and the critical discussion of the issues arising from these encounters among cultures expand in equal proportion, be it in its potentiality and complexity, or in its paradoxical and controversial character. And that happens in a context of extreme cultural interaction, entangled by the plurality of ideas related to the processes of globalization.

Abstract:
Pomocí měření účinného průřezu byly měřeny disociační energie vazeb a tyto disociační energie byly vypočteny pomocí metody DFT. Kombinací teoretického výpočtu metodou DFT a experimentálního měření jsme poukázali na společné rysy a na rozdíly ve fragmentačním schématu všech tří molekul. Navrhli jsme odštěpení dvou vodíkových atomů během plazmově indukovaného fragmentačního procesu. Vodíky mohou být odštěpeny pomocí dvou mechanismů: i. odštěpení dvou vodíků jeden po druhém a ii. odštěpení molekuly H2 v jednom kroku. Z profilů energie dokážeme určit, který mechanismus bude v tom konkrétním případě pravděpodobnější. Předpokládaný mechanismus je v korelaci s experimentálními výsledky fragmentace zjištěnými z hmotnostních spekter.

This paper aims to make an approximation of some concepts of the Philosophy of Difference as proposed by Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari to Kafka´s so called Minor Literature, in specific The Metamorphosis and The Trial. For these philosophers, although Literature and Philosophy have different objects, they have bonds and come close to each other when they give their testimony of life. It is life that runs through literature; several types of devir overflow in literary writing: devir-man, devir-woman, devir-child, devir-animal, devir-molecule, imperceptible devir, flows of life and death shaping rizomes, agitating Franz Kafka´s world map. The character Gregor Samsa in Metamorphosis is a man, but a transformed man, turned into an insect, a deviranimal, a devir-molecule, a flow of desire, blocks of sensation. Kafka´s world is truly agitated, the political machine, the war machine are all connected, disconnected and re-connected, shuffling the codes in The Trial and in Metamorphosis and as they were shuffled, they took language to the limit, forcing thought to think and language to stutter, because language and thought fold themselves inside and outside through the forces of sign. In this movement between the inside and the outside, we are led to weave our third margin. Pointing the possible connections between Deleuze´s Philosophy of Difference and Literature, searching in the reflections, experimentation with some concepts such as sign, rizome, desire, agency, flows, machines and the concept of Minor Literature as a field of aesthetical experimentation, is the intention of this work.

Injectable corticosteroids have been used in phonosurgery to prevent scarring of the vocal fold due to their effects on wound healing, and to assure better voice quality. The aim of this study is to evaluate histologically the effects of dexamethasone infiltration on acute vocal fold wound healing in rabbits 3 and 7 days after surgically-induced injury, by quantification of the inflammatory reaction and collagen deposition. A standardized surgical incision was made in the vocal folds of 12 rabbits, and 0.1 ml dexamethasone (4 mg/ml) was injected into the left vocal fold. The right vocal fold was not injected and served as the control. The larynges were collected 3 and 7 days after surgery. For histological analysis, the vocal folds were stained with hematoxylin-eosin for quantification of the inflammatory response and with picrosirius red for quantification of collagen deposition. There was no quantitative difference in the inflammatory response between vocal folds injected with the corticosteroid and the control folds. However, collagen deposition was significantly lower in the corticosteroid-treated group at 3 and 7 days after the injury (p = 0.002). The present results suggest that dexamethasone reduces collagen deposition during acute vocal fold wound healing

Several material have been introduced into the vocal folds in attempt to solve glottic incompetence, however just a few studies are related with the consequent inflammatory process. The aim of this article was to quantify the cellular inflammatory process in rabbit vocal fold, which have undergone unilateral fat or muscular fascia introduction. Twenty-four rabbits were allocated into two groups, in which muscular fascia or fat were implanted. The control group, formed by the contra-lateral vocal fold, underwent the same surgical procedure, except for the grafting. Half the rabbits from each group were sacrificed after 90 days from the surgery, while the other half was sacrificed after 180 days. The inflammatory cellular density around the graft was measured in all vocal folds. There was a higher cellular inflammatory reaction in the group submitted to fat grafting when compared to the group submitted to muscular fascia grafting, and to the control group, after 90 days. As for the rabbits sacrificed after 180 days, there was no significant difference between the implanted groups with each other, and with the control group. This study suggests that muscular fascia graft seems to be more acceptable than fat grafts for the vocal fold, as it produces a lower local inflammatory reaction

Abstract:
Contemporary theories of learning suggest that successful learners are active in the learning process and that they tend to use a number of metacognitive processes to monitor learning and remembering. Drawing on the theoretical framework of Nelson and Narens (1992), the current study examined the effect of certain variables on metamemory processes and on students' ability to recall and recognise learned material. The present study explored the effect of four independent variables on five dependent variables. The independent variables were: 1. degree of learning (responses given until 2 or 8 times correct), 2. judgment of learning (JOL) timing (given immediately after learning session or 24 hours later), 3. retention interval between study and test (2 or 6 weeks), and 4. type of material studied (sentences, in or out of context). The dependent variables were: 1. judgement of learning (JOL), 2. confidence rating, 3. feeling of knowing (FOK), 4. recall, and 5. recognition.. As ancillary analyses, the study explored, firstly, whether gender differences had an effect on meta-level and object-level memory, and secondly, whether students who recalled more also made more accurate metamemory judgements. The effects of the independent variables on recall and recognition were consistent with those found by previous studies. The most interesting new finding of the present study was that students who made JOLs after twenty four hours were more likely to take into account the effect of the interval between learning and testing. Students who made immediate JOLs did not allow for the effect of the time interval on retention. A further new finding was that gender appeared to have had an influence on JOLs. The findings about the effects of timing of JOLs and of gender effects on JOL have implications for metacognitive theory and will stimulate further research. The practical significance of this research, particularly the implications for study skills training for all students, was that educators cannot presume that students will correctly predict what they will recall after six weeks if they make that judgement immediately after learning has occurred. Therefore, the effects of the passage of time on memory, and the efficacy of delaying judgments, should be made explicit. The finding that the manipulation of JOL timing has a significant effect on the accuracy of judgements has implications in the wider area of educational policymaking and for the current debate on competencies and quality assurance. Learning cannot be considered a simple process and when a large component of learning is selfdirected, as it is in tertiary institutions and increasingly in schools, many variables are operating.

Abstract:
This dissertation is the performer’s account of the process of constructing a performance of Béla Bártok’s Romanian Folk Dances from the perspective of embodied cognition. Based on Godøy’s proposition of gestural-sonic coarticulation (2006; 2011), and Alexandra Pierce’s gestural approach to piano performance (2007), this research investigated how gesture and sound shape one another, and how this continuous process affects the conception of the work and the relations between performer, music and instrument. Considering that lived experience exceeds piano practice, perspectives from extra-musical activities were considered due to their contribution towards promoting bodily awareness and insights that were relevant to the artistic process. The methodological approach draws from Artistic Research and Autoethnography in regard to uncovering embodied knowledge ingrained in the process of artistic creation through personal narrative. The documentation of the process comprised: 1) a journal describing practice sessions, piano lessons and extra-musical experiences; 2) video recordings of practice sessions; 3) video recordings of performances along the process; 4) a comparison between the final performance and the first recording of the piece made prior to the present research. These records were examined with the purpose of comprehending the artistic process from the perspective of body and music in a constant state of becoming, identifying the most meaningful moments of insight, and mapping creative resources devised by the performer during the artistic process. The performer’s reflections upon the process lead to recognizing oneself as an embodied subject, to perceiving music as an essentially corporeal phenomenon, and to transformations in the conception of the musical work. The artistic process centered on the performer’s body promoted significant changes in the performer’s interaction with the instrument, the development of a broader gestural repertoire, an increment in expressive resources, and the refinement of aural perception, fostering the growth of creativity and artistic autonomy, as well as emotional maturation.

Abstract:
In Western culture, social partner dances have re-emerged as a leisure activity for young and adults since the 90’s. This sociological research concerns social partner dancing events taking place in public spaces in Milan nowadays, especially in the city centre. They are organized through online social networks by groups of dancers who occupy the public space without any formal license and any profit-mindedness; Argentinian tango, French mazurka, swing, and Southern Italian dances are the types of dances involved. The underlying assumption is that these street events are part of a unique social phenomenon. By means of an at home perspective to participant observation, semistructured, and in-depth interviews, this work aims, firstly, to find specific meanings to this practice by comparing it to partner dances performed in institutional places; and secondly, to identify the role of public space in this framework. The collective sociality dimension of meaning has been chosen as a key to interpretation, since it stood out for complexity and relevance. This urban practice turns out to be a kind of simmelian sociability and an environment to experience a group intimacy produced by extemporary interactions of acquaintances; of which urban public spaces, furthermore, prove to be a perfect theatre to its full expression.

This study was designed to understand why the creations of the directors of Taiwanese opera are uniquely “creative.” There are multiple causes for the personal creativity system, for example the personal characteristics of the director, their growth process, the environment and experiences during creation, and the cultural influences on their perspective. There are eight major Taiwanese opera directors participating in this study as well as their relatives, friends, students, and peers. They are all well known directors with rich experiences in creativity. The researcher and the eight directors have co-created opera music; they often discussed how to allow Taiwanese opera to be more sophisticated, are normally zealous about opera education, and have similar interests. The researcher is highly interested in researching the source of the director’s creativity, in this research; structured interviews, individual interviews, and telephone interviews are used to collect information; accompanied by periodicals, newspapers, media reports, and documents. Through qualitative research analysis, the summarized findings are as follows: I. The growth environment and personality traits of the Taiwanese opera director The deprived background and bad environment allow the directors to work harder and strive to learn; to be more focused and often self-examine; to have sincere attitudes, be more amiable, and have consideration for others; but have personality conflicts, and often think in isolation. The bad environment allows them to build endurance, and often care about the community; to not forget the function of social education in their works; they try to strive for novelty in their creations; they have good memory, agile thinking, and can think in multiple directions; they are both emotional and rational. They are constantly learning, always collecting materials; have unique observations and independent actions; they have goals, visions, and put a lot of effort into carrying on the culture and guiding newcomers. II. The creation process of the Taiwanese opera director The accumulation of normal day creation sources has enriched different creative processes; observing other types of art and normal day reading strengthens creative inspirations; the considerations of the theme direction, and conceiving themes stimulate new connections; the feelings toward the human limbs and the integration of various elements, allow the manifestation of creative content that teaches the heart; determining the structure and getting rid of the extra material; accumulating long term thoughts and developing the creative work; showing a concrete stage image, correcting the piece, and showing the final piece; the audience support and confirmation of the external environment. III. The crisis faced by Taiwanese opera director and the encouragement of the community In today's society, parents satisfy the needs of their children, under the impact of the environment, the education of children trigger the worries of creating and the hard work of inheriting the family business. The fierce competition in society, and the hope they have toward the inheritance; they always use themselves as examples, correcting the errors in life and in the opera; their brave spirits receive the encouragement of society. At last, through the famous words of a famous master, an appeal to the related industries of Taiwanese opera: “have the courage to create, there are boundless chances for life.” Categorization of the creative processes of the eight opera directors, in the creation of their works, a big portion is from the formation of their personality traits through persistence in difficult circumstances. In the future, though they get satisfaction and joy through their creations, but the changing times and the impacts of society have caused economic recession; and the directors face another hard challenge. At the end, focusing on the research results, we have reflections from the findings; we also give suggestions to the later generations, schools, and parents about artistic education and developing interests; and also give recommendations for future research.

Massey, Rachel Helen. "Landscapes of Participation and Tradition: The Australian Folk Festival as Process and Public Event." Thesis, 2021. https://hdl.handle.net/2440/135373.

Abstract:
Every year, more than eighty self-designated ‘folk festival’ events are staged throughout Australia. Mainly held in regional and rural towns, these are leisure events characterised by the presentation of formal folk music concerts, the staging of folk dance events as well as oral performances, street performance, and both formal and informal opportunities for music-making and folk engagement with a significant emphasis on attendee participation. Australian folk festivals are modern ‘public events’ – grounded phenomena in their own right, with internal structures of intentionality. This thesis draws upon multi-sited fieldwork conducted at fourteen Australian folk festivals spanning three years and five Australian states and territories, including deep involvement on the organising committee of one local festival. Examining and comparing the internal technologies of these events and how these structures create eventmental landscapes and generate folk atmospheres that affect participants’ sensory experience of folk, offers a unique anthropological theoretical insight into festivals as process. Theorising folk festivals as public events and interrogating their logics of design provides an innovative analysis of how folk festival structures operate on individual and community experience of folk practice in Australia and perform folk as a process. Folk process has long been utilised as a method of defining ‘folk’. Folk process refers to the oral transmission of music (and other folk performance) providing continuity between past and present, and in which community selection and variation or evolution by individuals or the community are key aspects. I argue that as an intentional eventmental landscape, the folk festival acts as the primary site of folk process in Australia, and that this process is facilitated and shaped by participant movement within this landscape. I also argue that the concept of oral transmission should be expanded to include bodily transmission, the body-to-body sharing of folk.

Study of Folk Religion Wu Xiang Tai Zi: A Process of Making a Cross-neighborhood Community TSAI,RUNG-YING Abstract Dayang is a coast village in Jinsha Township of Jinmen County in Taiwan consisting of seven zi ran cun, or traditional villages. Historically, the villagers had started by making a living through farming and fishing, and with the high risk of safety at sea, gradually shifted to farming as their main economic means. However, precarious and uncontrollable weather and other environmental challenges made desperate villagers turn to folk religion Wu Xiang Tai Zi as spiritual resource, to which they prayed for good harvest, as well as good health and safety. I had chosen to take Wu Xiang Tai Zi in Dayang as the subject of my thesis and the methods I used to conduct the research include literature review and field study. The literature that supports my work includes local chronicles, family genealogies, epigraphs, demographic data, and previous research on local temples. As for the field study, it is composed of my long-term observation of the religious belief as practiced in Dayang, my participation in the annual procession of Wu Xiang Tai Zi’s “territory inspection,” and interviews with reporters of the event, experts of religious rituals, villagers of different age and gender who participated in the procession, and other members of the societal territory formed by the religion. For more than one hundred years, religious ceremonies related to Wu Xiang Tai Zi have brought people of Dayang together and cemented community solidarity. It remains the core belief shared by five neighborhoods till today. The purpose of this paper is to document the process of Wu Xiang Tai Zi’s annual procession so as to reveal the development and status quo of this regional belief, to understand its organizational structure, and to observe the process of making of this religion-based cross-neighborhood community. Key word: Kinmen, Wu Xiang Tai Zi Ye, inspection of the territory by the main god in a parade, religious parade, religious process, folk religion

The singing of traditional operas is very different from pop songs. The “CheGu Tunes” have rich story and regional characteristics. The early collections are all carried out on paper, but they can not express the special charm of traditional opera. In the reservation of the aria and the subtle changes in the music, it still depends on the production of the film, but if it is preserved by video and audio, the problem of file storage and transmission is unresolved. This study sees the preservation of traditional culture and expects to use digital archive method to make a contribution for traditional culture and avoid the loss of traditional Taiwanese art. This study designs digital collection process, first collects old singing tunes, and then uses the digitally written software and arranger software to create digital files and store in digital platforms, so that traditional art can be fully recorded and permanently preserved, and the storage and dissemination of culture can be introduced into the new era through the Internet. This case study explored the organizing process of a sports team of a college in the northern Taiwan. The sports team consisted of performers of rope skipping, diabolo, acrobatics, and shuttle cock kicking. Since this sports team belonged to a department at an urban college in Taiwan, it was closely related to the college policy of student recruitment. There were 6 research participants in the study, including a department chair, coaches and team captains. Through three-month face-to-face as well as group interviewing, observing, document collecting, and journal taking, the researcher built up research data. After collecting data, narrative analysis, interpretative phenomenological analysis, and thematic analysis were used to analyze the data. We found that the organizing process of the team was shown in the relationship between its goals and its identities to the environment, especially its efforts in seeking innovations. We found that the organizing process of the team was shown in the relationship between its innate quality and its reactions to the environment, especially its efforts in seeking innovations. Besides, we named seven phases for its development: “Sand,” “Round,” “Peak,” “Low tide,” “Resume,” “Second Round,” and “Second peak.” Each of the phases unrolled various styles and features of the team. Finally, there were meanings proposed by the participants. For department leader: fostering students’ professional capacities. For the coach: spreading Taiwan’s folk sports culture. For team members: creating a home and a diploma.

Abstract This study based on the aesthetics of narrative and dialogue is trying to reconstruct the memories of folk dance creation of Min-Shan Hu and Chun-Ling Hsiao for decades. Firstly, the study regards “perception of beauty” as essential base level, takes the two creators creations as examples to approach the issues concerning “struggle and insistence”, “a focus of unconsciousness/consciousness”, and “involvement of multiple art fields”. As a result, the two creators’ artistic value orientations and creative styles are induced. 1. Both of the creators were thinking highly of contemporary folk dance creation, and strenuously develop the cultural atmosphere and artistic styles imbued with Taiwanese homeland fertility. 2. Min-Shan Hu’s creations of the “style of zen” endowed with the characteristics of “calm, coincidence, slow motion, and solitude”. 3. Chun-Ling Hsiao developed the characteristics of “iconic breathing”, “strenuous touching”, and “infiltrative simulation” in her works. 4. Many of the “unexpected” situations could occur in the process of creation, and the insistence of creators toward “unexpected” will lead to many struggles. These struggles may obstruct creation, or sometimes, lead to a new opportunity. 5. The long-term practice of creation has cultivated a habit of seizing “beauty” and became one of their lifetime customs. The accumulation of creation energy have embodied in their individuality. 6. Both of them aspire to achieve “free space” in creation and don’t like to be constrained by mundane, narrow views. Therefore, they have motive to acquire inspirations from multidisciplinary resources and continuously renovate their works. The study concluded with the discourse of “fascinated absorption” and “emotional complex”. “Fascinated absorption” means “perception of beauty” through “insistence, focus, and tradeoff” in the process of creation. Beauty attributed to one’s fascination, and absorption initiate creation. The creators’ inner “entangled persistence” caused “emotional complex”, and accumulated “images” in the diversified differentiated fertile soil of “perception of beauty”. These were come from the creators’ socialized emotion, thinking of arts, appreciation of beauty, and desire of creation.

This thesis utilized "Folk beliefs" , "Spirit mediums" and "family" as keywords to search the database in periodicals, theses in Taiwan and other academic documents, and select their contents related to "spirit mediums and the support of the families " as reference. However, a few reseaches about processes of becoming spirit mediums which have something to do with the family shock and family supportive situation are availiable, so this study highlights the importance more. This study adapts the Qualitiative Rearch, In-depth Interview Method, and 3 experienced spirit mediums are classified as research subjects. The results indicate: 1. Before becoming a spirit medium has relevance to religious background. The different degree of devout and pious. The process of becoming a spirit medium is an unique subjective feeling and experience. Becoming spirit mediums is because of his/her different karma conditions, there is no certain context existed. Nevertheless, there is always a connect to the fate of the people who bind the fate between God and people. 2. The views of life of spirit mediums has changed since they became spirit mediums. They all emphasize on the practice of life and devote themselves to accpmplishing the mission of Gods with holding the faith of help, and keeping on salvation. 3. The impact of becoming spirit mediums on their family varies. Each family has individual spportive situation. Even within the same family, the different response styles will be formed because of the different roles in the family, different standpoints and the way of thinking.

Abstract:

The Bukusu community is predominantly found in Bungoma district of Western Kenya. The Litungu is a word referring to a lyre among the Bukusu community. Music accompanied by this instrument is what is referred to as Litungu music. This music makes use of sung text and “verbal-text”/ silao-sikeleko (speech and speech-melody) and silao-sikeleko is the focal point of this study. Silao-sikeleko is performed in alternation with sung text in Litungu music. This study seeks to identify the cultural and compositional role of silao-sikeleko in the music. To achieve the objectives of this study I used a qualitative approach to collect and analyze data. Data collection included the use of interviews and observation. The interviewees included performers of Litungu music, whose music was audio recorded and video recorded for analysis. In addition, I made observations of the performance sites and performance behaviour, taking notes and making audio and video recording. Music for analysis was then selected on the basis that it had the silao-sikeleko component. The Bukusu cultural view of silao-sikeleko is discussed in relation to their customs and way of life. The execution of silao-sikeleko is based on a culturally conceived framework that allows the involvement of various performers in the performance composition process. Here the contexts within which silao-sikeleko is performed are identified. Analysis of the relationship between sung text and silao-sikeleko established that whereas the two are thematically unified, silaosikeleko substantiates the sung texts by facilitating an understanding of messages contained in the songs. The analysis of language use ascertained that silao-sikeleko makes use of language devices such as proverbs, idioms, symbolism, riddles and similes. I established that silao-sikeleko as a performance compositional element has its own presentational structure that influences the overall structure of the Litungu music. Litungu music has a quasi-rondoic structure whose output is not static but varies according to context and the wishes of the soloist. The soloist interprets how effectively a given message has been communicated during performance determining how much silao-sikeleko should be performed. Silao-sikeleko is in most cases composed and performed by various members of a performing group.

In recent years, with the rise of environmental consciousness, bicycles have changed into one of the popular recreational sports instead of the transpotation in the past. And the components of the bicycle are developig in the direction of light weight and safety.Under the premise of maintaining logical manufacturing cost and the rigid structure, the application of the forging techniques is just in accordance with the requirements which are above-mentioned. The Aluminum alloy is a preferred material for lightweight bicycle parts due to its low density, high strength and rigidity, good impact resistance, good corrosion resistance, good thermal conductivity, good recyclability, and other excellent properties. This study uses DEFORM-3D finite element analysis software at the early stage of mold development. According to the 7075 aluminum alloy material, the forging shape of the bicycle fork crown cover is simulated and analyzed to predict the optimal size of the molding material, and it is hoped to find out from the simulation analysis process. In the process of forging, defects the situation such as missing materials and wrappings materials may occur. The study’s results showed that the 7075 analog forging fork crown cover, can approach true rendering forging process by using DEFORM-3D finite element analysis software. Through the comparison of simulation analysis and experimental results, the appearance of the forging and the temperature field are very close to each other. From the above results, it was verified that DEFORM-3D finite element analysis software simulates the reliability of this process, and helps to understand the direction and speed of material flow, stress, strain, temperature, forming load, etc. in the forging process.

The escalating technology and the demand of lightweight in the bicycle industry let forming process of product needed to design an optimization.in this thesis, Finite Element Analysis was used to simulate the manufacturing process of aluminum-alloy fork. Different from general fork which was assembled by welding, the forming of one-piece aluminum-alloy fork contained many operations, including blank cutting, upsetting, backward extrusion, hole drilling, tube shrinkage, tube bending, preforming, hydraulic forming and side push, clip forging, lapping and polishing. First, the thesis focused on the forming process of backward extrusion. In this process, because of the influence of large strain and the flow in the material, the force of upper die and the defect of product were the important issue in this process. To decline the force of upper die, the friction between material and die and the model of the punch were the parameters which were needed to analysis. The defect of material folding was easily occurred, and this significant issue could be solved by using the design of the punch. In the manufacturing process of tube bending, in order to pursue the lightweight of aluminum-alloy fork, the defect of indentation was almost serious at bending area because of thin thickness. The flow of material and the modeling of die had significant influence on indentation. After simulating in different of thickness and die design, the result showed what effect could be improved. Observing the result of simulation could find that larger thickness would improve the flow of material and larger deformation would deteriorate indentation. The manufacturing process of clip consisted of hydraulic forming and forging. Because the material in the area was not enough to form the clip, the target of hydraulic forming was to complement and reserve material. In hydraulic forming, preforming the characteristic profile could improve the defects. Finally, the thesis analyzed Front Fork-Static Bending Test and Front Fork- Rearward Impact Test by used Finite Element Analysis. The target of analyzing these fork tests was to improve the consequent and found the optimization of lightweight. Before the simulation, confirming actual boundary condition of fork test was necessary. Taiwan Bicycle Industry Standard which was as known as TBIS only rule a fundamental regulation, so the detail of fork test would be different from each company demand. At the result of simulation, the maximum of tension stress was occurred at the place where thickness is mutative on head tube, and the necessary design of head tube would be known. Tension stress at the back of fork affect insignificantly, so designing the back of fork was the best way to get the optimization of lightweight. The research of the thesis could provide the reference of the manufacturing process optimization of one-piece aluminum-alloy fork and the design of lightweight in the future.

Postoronca, Mihaela. Master's thesis, 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/10773/30101.

Full text
Abstract:
, founded in 1888, is dedicated to the production of dissolving pulp by an acid sulfite cooking process of Eucalyptus globulus, using a TCF (Total Chlorine Free) bleaching sequence with a E-OP sequence.Dissolving Pulp is defined as having a high degree of purity relative to the amount of α-cellulose, with hemicelluloses and lignin needing to be removed almost entirely. This type of pulp is mainly requested to produce viscose rayon and other cellulose derivatives. Pulp Reactivity is one of the quality control parameters of dissolving pulp, aiming at its accessibility to chemical reagents during viscose production and can be determined by the Fock’s Method. The aim of this work is to study essentially the reactivity behavior by introducing a laboratory simulation of an Acid Wash Stage A, after an Oxygen O stage and after a Hydrogen peroxide P stage in the Caima bleaching sequence. In each step, different process conditions were tested, such as the pH of the fibrous suspension, reaction temperature and residence time. During the laboratory study, the dissolving pulp obtained was characterized for the various quality parameters applied in Caima, namely intrinsic viscosity, α-cellulose, brightness, kappa number, pentosan content, filterability and copper number. In the E-O-A-P sequence, it is concluded that the reaction temperature variable represents the control parameter which, in relation to the others, has the greatest influence on the results of dissolving pulp reactivity, reaching a maximum value of 68% of reactivity at stage P for T = 90ºC.For the E-O-P-A sequence, it is concluded that with the application of an acid wash stage after the P stage, whatever the reaction temperature applied, dissolving pulp reactivity increases to a maximum of 67%. However, at a reaction temperature of 90ºC the α-cellulose content is reduced to 90.8% according to the R10% parameter, indicating the degradation of the cellulose by the occurrence of acid hydrolysis reactions of the polymer. In addition, there is a decrease of pulp brightness, indicating the formation of new chromophore compounds. In sum, comparing the two sequences studied, it can be concluded that given the similarity of the results of the reactivity of the dissolving pulp, the position of the acid wash step in the bleaching sequence is not a decisive factor. Besides that, regardless of the position of A stage, the optimal processual conditions are T=70ºC, pH=2,0 and Tr=2H, since a reactivity result of the same order of magnitude is obtained without affecting the remaining quality parameters.

Abstract:
This thesis examines the representations of rural Portugal in the light of Portuguese democratic transition, taking as an empirical field the Campanhas de Dinamização Cultural e Acção Cívica do Movimentos das Forças Armadas. This initiative took place between 1974 and 1975, and covered the North and Interior of Portugal, mainly in the rural areas of the Minho, Trás-os-Montes, Beira Alta, Beira Baixa and the Azores archipelago. Trying to confront the “idea of Portugal” promoted by the Estado Novo (New State) the protagonists of this initiative construct a paradoxical discursive field, where concepts such as culture, tradition, underdevelopment, decentralization and citizenship interwined. This dissertation also analyzes the local vision of the Campanhas de Dinamização Cultural e Acção Cívica do Movimentos das Forças Armadas that targeted the regions of Viseu and Bragança, examining the way they were received and interpreted by the populations.

The experimental design adopts the central composite design (CCD). Also, four independent variables, including thickness of work pieces, die corner radius, hole diameter and the number of holes, are regarded as the design parameters in the experimental design. The value of springback angle and the shape deformation of holes in the L-bending process also have been explored in the meanwhile. The results reveal that the value of springback angle increases with increasing the size of hole and die corner radius, and decreases with increasing the thickness of work pieces. The deformation rate along the axial direction on the top surface, the tangent direction on the top surface, the axial direction on the bottom surface and the tangent direction on the bottom surface are designated as RD_A , RD_T, Rd_a, Rd_t, respectively. According to the experimental results, to reduce the die radius or increase the thickness of work pieces will cause a high deformation rate. In addition, the variation of RD_A , RD_T, Rd_a and Rd_t will decrease with the increase of the hole diameter and the number of holes. Using the RSM method with a quadratic explicit formulas, the maximum deviations of the predicted values of relevant influencing parameters in terms of the springback angle, the variation of RD_A , RD_T, Rd_a and Rd_t, which are compared with the actual experimental data, are 4.24%, 4.30%, 4.52%, 4.79% and 4.21%, respectively.
