Abstract:
Physical sanitation of the house and parent’s behavior are the factors that could affect the incidence of ARI in children under five. The aim of this research was to analyze what factors of house physical sanitation that affect the occurrence of ARI among children under five in East Kalianget Village. This research was an observational research, with cross sectional design. The samples in this research were 60 children under fives randomly chosen through simple random sampling. Data collection was done through interview, observation, thermohygrometer, roll meter, lux meter, and EPAM 5000. Data was analyzed using chi-square and binary logistic regression analysis. The results showed that children under five’s bedroom density (p=0.241) was affecting the occurrence of ARI among children under five, meanwhile ventilation area (p=0.241), air temperature (p=0.948), humidity (p=0.830), and lighting (0.393) were not affecting the occurrence of ARI among children under five. Communities of East Kalianget Village that have unsuitable occupancy density are suggested to reset the number of their bedroom’s occupants, for example maybe a father sleeping in the living room to prevent the occurrence of ARI among children under five.

Abstract:

Full text
Abstract:
This study was conducted during the first year of the implementation of the Revised National Curriculum Statement (RNCS) in Grade Five in South Africa. It is compulsory for teachers to implement the RNCS in this country. Investigations play a central role in learning in science education, and this study focuses on the Assessment Standard of Learning Outcome 1 in the Natural Sciences Learning Area that relates to children's abilities to ask questions that they can investigate themselves. Children struggle to formulate questions that can be used for investigations, and so they need to be taught how to do this. However, there is a paucity of research literature providing empirical evidence of how to teach children to ask investigable science questions. The aim of this study was to provide empirical data on the use of the teaching strategies suggested in the research literature, that is, to investigate which strategies science teachers use in teaching children how to ask questions that can be used in science investigations.

Kukeba, Margaret. "Ethnography of household cultural feeding practices of children under five years in rural northern Ghana." Thesis, University of Manchester, 2017. https://www.research.manchester.ac.uk/portal/en/theses/ethnography-of-household-cultural-feeding-practices-of-children-under-five-years-in-rural-northern-ghana(cac6d660-1ac9-447d-9fc3-1970fdb56df0).html.

Full text
Abstract:
Background: Appropriate child feeding prevents nutrient deficiencies, diseases, and deaths in children. However, only 13.3% of children aged 6-23 months in Ghana receive the minimum acceptable diet. Thus, undernutrition remains high in rural northern Ghana, especially among under-fives. This is showing no improvement despite economic development and implementation of globally recommended nutrition & feeding interventions. There is limited context specific evidence about child feeding in rural northern Ghana. Aim: To examine how culture might impact upon the feeding of children under five years of age in rural northern Ghana. Methods: A qualitative ethnographic study was completed between October 2014 and May 2015. Data were collected in a rural Ghanaian community via participant observation and sixty-one ethnographic interviews with mothers, fathers, and grandparents in 15 households, and spiritual leaders are known as "diviners". Themes were developed through inductive analysis of field notes and verbatim transcribed interviews using a framework approach. Results: The content of a child's diet and the pattern of feeding were found to be influenced by the community's notion of food, taboos, and beliefs which originated in a traditional African religion. Shared household responsibility for feeding children and the gendered and age related hierarchy of household decision making also influenced child feeding. Discussion: This study has shown multifaceted taken-for-granted social and cultural influences on child feeding. Whilst mothers are the main recipients of the official public health nutrition and child feeding advice, the communal structures, living arrangements and social interactions support, enhance, and reinforce the community inclined practices that limit mothers' independent decision making. Conclusion: To effect community change and promote uptake of public health nutrition recommendations, a community wide nutrition intervention approach may be more beneficial than the current approach which targets mothers. Furthermore, community and cultural influences must be understood and considered by health professionals if such interventions are to succeed.

Pozzi, Monzo Maria E. "A research study into the process of change in under fives' psychoanalytic psychotherapy." Thesis, University of East London, 2007. http://roar.uel.ac.uk/3816/.

Full text
Abstract:
The present study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of brief psychoanalytic psychotherapy with children under five and their families. This method originated at the Tavistock Clinic in the nineteen-eighties. The aim of the intervention is to resolve symptoms and deep anxieties in the child, which impede developmental progress, through paying close attention to the emotional dynamic within the family and to trans-generational issues. This research study has taken place in a National Health Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in England. The families were offered treatment as usual, which included a preliminary telephone consultation to establish the urgency of the difficulty. During this consultation the criteria for inclusion in the study were established. The hypothesis underlying this research is that there is a link between the parents' state of mind and their child's behaviour and symptoms as indicated in the referral letter. In particular, if parents feel understood and have the experience of being emotionally contained by the therapist in treatment, their state of mind is likely to move along a continuum from being predominantly reactive to being more reflective. In psychoanalytic parlance, they move from a paranoid-schizoid position to one that is more depressive (PS^D). A methodology has been devised which includes both a qualitative and a quantitative approach and videotaping of sessions. The quantitative findings suggest that the parents' state of mind in relation to their child did indeed alter from being predominantly reactive to being more reflective, but this was specific to one of the three dimensions measured. By the end of treatment, parents were found to be less blaming and more reparatory in their general state of mind, having started at baseline, by being rather blaming in their general attitude. However the findings were less conclusive in terms of the parents changing on the other two dimensions i.e. of enmeshment - separateness and criticism - identification with the child. The qualitative findings based on the parents' reports on the children's progress and the therapist's observation and countertransference showed that the children's symptoms and behaviour changed and improved. However, this part of the research was based on a qualitative and not a statistical analysis of the data. The qualitative material supported the hypothesis and the predictions generally as well as the quantitative findings. However, it could have been argued that it was the statistical findings that lent some partial credibility to the qualitative findings.

Abstract:

Child abuse content on the Internet is today an increasing problem and difficult to dealwith. The techniques used by paedophiles are getting more sophisticated which means ittakes more effort of the law enforcement to locate this content.

To help solving this issue, a EU-funded project named FIVES is developing a set oftools to help investigations involving large amounts of image and video material. One ofthese tools aims to help identifying potentially illegal files by hash signatures derived fromusing classification information from another project.

Delfini, Antonio. "La ville conflictuelle : luttes pour le logement et transformations des quartiers populaires : le faubourg de Fives à Lille (1969-2016)." Thesis, Lille 1, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017LIL12027.

Full text
Abstract:
The "urban struggles" seem now to be an old story belonging to the golden age of the 1970's struggles. However, those mobilizations did not fully disappear and are even experiencing a revival as a result of the last waves of urban renewal. Those struggles, embodied by both neighbors and "users" of the working-class areas, take part in the transformation of the urban spaces where they emerge. This thesis questions the relations of mutual structuring between the process of transformation of the working-class areas and the movements of social protest built against the urban renewal process and the housing policies. At the crossroads between urban sociology and the sociology of social movements, this work offers an analytical reinterpretation of the French school of Marxist urban sociology. In this perspective, this thesis relies on the study of four social mobilizations that have emerged between 1969 and 2016 in a working-class neighborhood located in the eastern part of the city of Lille, Lille-Fives. A first historical inquiry analyses three mobilizations taking flesh in a struggle against the urban renewal that occurred during the 1970's and the 1980's. The second one is contemporary and studies an association born at the beginning of 2010 that is involved in the struggle against urban renewal and very active through housing syndicalism. This last work is quite in line with the research approach of action-research as the author is a member and a current employee of the association
