Abstract:
This study was conducted to determine mite species in dried figs in Aydin, Turkey between August 2014 and November 2016. A total of 141 dried fig samples were taken from producers’ storage, commercial storages and fig processing factories in Buharkent, Germencik, Incirliova, Kocarli, Kosk, Kuyucak, Merkez, Nazilli, Sultanhisar and Yenipazar districts. In addition, 24 dried fig samples were kept in storage for 8 months and the changes in mite species composition and their densities in stored figs were determined. As a result, 8 mite species belonging to 3 orders and 5 families were identified from the dried figs. Acarus siro L., Carpoglyphus lactis (L.), Glycyphagus destructor (Schrank), G. domesticus (De Geer) and Tyrophagus putrescentiae (Schrank) as pest species, and Blattisocius tarsalis (Berlese), B. mali (Oudemans) and Cheyletus eruditus (Schrank) as predatory mite species were found. Out of 141 samples, 133 were infested with mites and the infestation ratio was 94.3%. Tyrophagus putrescentiae was the most common pest species with an infestation rate of 72.3%, followed by C. lactis with 34.8%, A. siro, G. destructor and G. domesticus with 0.7% contamination, respectively. Carpoglyphus lactis was found to have the highest density with 10,488 individuals/kg in contaminated fig samples. Blattisocius tarsalis was the most common predatory mite species with an infestation rate of 77.3%. Blattisocius mali and C. eruditus were found in 9.2% and 4.3% of dried figs, respectively. This study showed that the dried fig samples kept in storage were always vulnerable to contamination with mites. Mite species composition and their densities also fluctuated over time.

Abstract:
We report on the discovery of K2-141 b (EPIC 246393474 b), an ultra-short-period super-Earth on a 6.7 h orbit transiting an active K7 V star based on data from K2 campaign 12. We confirmed the planet’s existence and measured its mass with a series of follow-up observations: seeing-limited MuSCAT imaging, NESSI high-resolution speckle observations, and FIES and HARPS high-precision radial-velocity monitoring. K2-141 b has a mass of 5.31 ± 0.46 M⊕ and radius of 1.54−0.09+0.10 R⊕, yielding a mean density of 8.00−1.45+1.83 g cm−3 and suggesting a rocky-iron composition. Models indicate that iron cannot exceed ~70% of the total mass. With an orbital period of only 6.7 h, K2-141 b is the shortest-period planet known to date with a precisely determined mass.

Spasov, Victor. "West Moesian uplifted hydrogeological system." Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology 34, no. 1 (2020): 29–44. http://dx.doi.org/10.52321/igh.34.1.29.

Full text
Abstract:
A comprehensive analysis of the hydrogeological conditions in the westernmost part of the Bulgarian Danube Plain is presented. During the Neogene and Quaternary period this area is subjected to continuous uplift. As a result, river valleys are deeply incised into the terrain and all shallow aquifers are well drained in the hydrological network. This process determines the specific regime and dynamics of the groundwater, characteristic of the identified West Moesian uplifted hydrogeological system. The Quaternary aquifer is the most abundant in the system. It is formed in four riparian lowlands – two along the Timok River (Bregovska and Baley-Kudelin) and two along the Danube River (Novoselska and Vidin Lowlands) (Figs 1, 7, 8). The hydraulic properties of the aquifer are very good: Transmissivity T = 800-1000 m2/d and hydraulic conductivity K = 60-80 m/d. Several Ranney water collector wells extracting up to 140 L/s have been built in the Vidin lowland. Potential groundwater resources in this lowland are estimated at about 14 m3/s, with 13 m3/s being infiltrated from the Danube River. Second in importance in the hydrogeological system is the Sarmatian aquifer. It consists of two layers: upper – limestone and lower – sandy limestone (Figs 2 and 3). The waters are used for local water supply by capturing karst springs. The results of monitoring observations on the chemical composition of groundwater during the period 1980-1991 are presented in diagrams (Figs 4, 5, 6, 9, 11, 12, 13). Groundwater, being the only water source in the area, must be carefully protected from industrial and agricultural pollution.

Abstract:
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrinopathy with high prevalence. miR-141-3p downregulation was reported in PCOS rats. This study intended to investigate miR-141-3p expression in serum of PCOS patients and its correlation with glucose and lipid metabolism. A total of 100 PCOS patients and 100 healthy controls were enrolled in this study. Clinical parameters and glucose and lipid indexes were analyzed. A 3-month fat reduction intervention was conducted to PCOS-obese patients. Expressions of miR-141-3p and PTEN were detected. WHR and levels of TG, HDL-C, FBG, FINS, HOMA-β, and HOMA-IR showed significant differences in PCOS patients. miR-141-3p was downregulated in PCOS patients. Area under ROC curve of miR-141-3p diagnosing PCOS-obese patients was 0.985 with specificity 95.35% and flexibility 93.33%. Levels of glucose and lipid metabolism indexes were increased while HDL-C level was decreased in miR-141-3p low expression group. Indexes of PCOS-obese patients were improved and miR-141-3p was upregulated after fat reduction intervention. PTEN was upregulated in PCOS patients and negatively correlated with miR-141-3p. In conclusion, miR-141-3p was downregulated in PCOS patients and had higher diagnostic value on PCOS and associated with glucose and lipid metabolism. miR-141-3p might play a role in glucose and lipid metabolism in PCOS-obese patients by targeting PTEN.

Abstract:
Following a three year survey in the Samsun region between 1971 and 1973, excavations started at İkiztepe, situated on the outskirts of İkiztepe village near Bafra town, in 1974. The results obtained from the excavations since 1993 demonstrate that the Bafra region was also settled during the Late Iron Age (Bilgi 1995: 142; 1996: 157; 1997: 145).Intensive survey and subsequent excavations located no settlements at İkiztepe after the first quarter of the second millennium BC. A monumental tomb from the Hellenistic period, however, was found at Tepe I (fig 1. Alkım et al 1988: 85-7). In addition to this tomb, comprising a dromos and two chambers built of cut stone blocks, traces of a settlement with pottery (figs 23, 27:3-6, 27:13-14) and small metal objects (figs 2-4) were found during excavations on the northern slope of Tepe I (Bilgi 1985: 55-6, pls 12-15).

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to carry out a numerical investigation to study forced convection for a tube with fins on the inner and outer surfaces with water as the base fluid and adding particles of CuO to have a nanofluid. Design/methodology/approach Three geometries are designed by using Solid Works and the number of inside fins is 20 with height 6 mm and thickness 1 mm. The number of outside fins is 20 with height 12 mm and thickness 1 mm. The length of the tube is 1,000 mm and the inner and outer diameter is 26 and 28 mm, respectively. The annular diameter is 60 mm. The geometries are imported to Gambit where the mesh is chosen and the boundary conditions are specified. The commercial software package Fluent version 14.0 has been used to numerically solve the governing equations for the three cases. Findings The temperature contours for the three models at different air velocities, i.e., 5, 7.5 and 10 m/s and water velocities 0.8, 1 and 3 m/s have been investigated. The enhancement of heat transfer by using CuO nanoparticles has been investigated at different nanofluid concentrations. Originality/value In this paper, a numerical study is presented to analyze internal and external longitudinal finned tubes with water inside and air outside, with and without nano CuO particles.

Abstract:
Based on the lectotype specimen herein selected, Clathrodictyon amygdaloides subvesiculosum Lecompte is raised to species status and assigned to Stromatoporella. In Clathrodictyon amygdaloides subvesiculosum (1951, p. 143, PL 18, figs. 3, 3a, 3b), Lecompte thought that he had a specimen replicated by heteromorphic coenosteal lenses (“Les lentilles hétéromorphes”). Examination of his original slides in the collections of the Institute Royal des Sciences Naturelles de Belgique reveals that the specimen consists of overgrowths of several laminar coenostea demarcated by eroded coenosteal surfaces and, in places, intercalated matrix sediment (vertical sections). The coenostea belong to two different genera: Actinostroma, as indicated by its Y-shaped pillars and laminae composed of a transversely fibrous microfabric, and Stromatoporella, as demonstrated by the presence of ring-pillars and ordinocellular laminae.

Abstract:
Abstract Colonello, J. H., Lucifora, L. O., and Massa, A. M. 2007. Reproduction of the angular angel shark (Squatina guggenheim): geographic differences, reproductive cycle, and sexual dimorphism. – ICES Journal of Marine Science, 64: 131–140. The reproductive ecology of Squatina guggenheim from two coastal areas in South America is analysed. In both sexes, individuals from ER (El Rincón coastal system, the more southern area) attained a larger maximum total length (LT) and a heavier weight at a given length than those from LP (La Plata River estuary). Females from ER mature at a significantly larger LT than females from LP. These patterns could be explained by an advantage of larger body size at higher latitudes in providing more reserves for winter, because individuals from ER have a larger liver than those from LP. Spines in the outer part of the pectoral fins were observed only in adult males. Fecundity increased with female total length. Females have a 3-y reproductive cycle, consisting of 10–12 months of gestation and 2 y of oocyte maturation. The embryonic growth fits the Gompertz model. Birth is in November or December, as inferred from embryo size and the presence of neonates and young of the year. Densities of S. guggenheim in LP peaked in spring and summer along the Uruguayan coast, suggesting a seasonal movement perpendicular to the shore. The reproductive pattern found suggests a population with low productivity.

Abstract:
Leptobrachella petrops (Rowley, Dau, Hoang, Le, Cutajar et Nguyen, 2017) was recently described from northern Vietnam. The tadpoles of this endemic species were collected for the first time from its type locality in Cham Chu Nature Reserve, Tuyen Quang Province. Taxonomic identification was based on a fragment of 16S rRNA gene of the newly collected tadpole and sequences of the type series obtained from GenBank. Morphological characters of the tadpoles (Gosner stages 25, 28, 35, 36, 43, 44, and 45) are as follows: Size medium, body elliptical, elongated, eyes are dorsolateral, narial apertures with characteristic gently rounded rims, slightly lifted above body surface, breathing hole on the left, vent tube dextral, separated from body and attached to lower fin, tail length exceeding two times body length, both upper and lower tail fins reach maximum height in posterior third, tip of tail pointed; dorsal surface olive-brown with distinct whitish-golden specklings, the tail has large black spots, ventral surface opaque-white, internal gills distinctly reddish. LTRF: 4(2 – 4)/3(1 – 2). In addition, we compare the tadpoles of Leptobrachella petrops with those of other species in the genus Leptobrachella.

Abstract:
SummaryGarra gotyla is an indigenous coldwater fish of the cyprinid family and has wide geographical distribution in India as well as in other countries of Asia and Africa. Induced breeding in G. gotyla was carried out successfully for the first time and an attempt has been made to document developmental stages chronologically from the first minute of fertilization, through all stages of embryonic development until the fifth day post hatching. This experiment was carried out at 22–24°C water temperature at the Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal, India. During the breeding trial, the fertilization rate was observed as 70–75% and hatching rate was 85–90%. The mature fertilized ova were measured as 0.8–1.0 mm in diameter and the perivitelline membrane became thick soon after fertilization and formation of the germ pole. The periods taken for complete developmental stages were recorded; cleavage stage 111 min (min post fertilization (pf)), blastulation stage 580 min (pf), neurulation and segmentation 1250 min (pf) and hatching was completed after 1420 min. The sac fry was measured as 3 mm in length and took almost 3 days for complete absorption of the yolk content. The major structural and differential changes observed are in head, tail, fins, alimentary canal, rudiments of each organ and appearance of melanophore pigmentation in the whole body. The 5-day-old larvae were measured as 6 mm in length with almost every organ fully differentiated. The present study will be utilized for large-scale production of fingerlings for stock enhancement in rivers, lakes and possibilities of genetic improvement and manipulation at the embryonic stage.
