Full textThe global market complexity and, in particular, the role of the entities operating in it, may be understood properly in the peculiarity of the agri-food sector where original contractual relationships are already being experimented and new associative schemes potentially extensible to other economic sectors are created. Agri-food contracts concern apparently simple legal situations which are particularly complex in practice. These are not homogeneous agreements, but more articulated contractual typologies born from different contexts and united by the same needs: to reduce the contractual asymmetry existing in relations between agricultural producers and businesses, allow the circulation of products and satisfy the need of the right to food. The paper aims to address the issue of collective and individual bargaining in the contractual relationships within the agri-food supply chain with particular emphasis on the study of contracts for the sale of products in the agri-food sector stipulated between agricultural producers (suppliers) and industrial counterparts, such as, for example, processors or distributors (buyers). The topics related to individual and collective bargaining in economic relations concerning the agri- food sector, specifically, are examined both in an international and national dimension through the analysis of sector regulations and the detailed study of some types of contracts for the supply of raw materials adopted in practice between producers and companies in different industries. The thesis is structured on five chapters, the first one serves as an historical introduction to the themes related to the contracts for the supply of products in the agricultural sector. The second chapter analyzes the contractual models and the most common instruments both in the international panorama and in the national and regional scenario; in the same chapter some specific practical cases have also been illustrated or referred to. The third chapter is dedicated to the contractual relations system in the agri-food sector within the European juridical experience, analyzing the related legislation and making a comparison between the Italian and French system on the regulations adopted and the choices made in regard to agricultural associationism. The fourth chapter focuses on interbranch organizations through a comparative approach between the French and the Italian experience. Lastly, the fifth and final chapter addresses the issues related to the main object of the study and the role that collective bargaining can play regulating the problem of food waste along the supply chain and the diffusion of production models, alternative to the so called "linear" one.

Full textThe fruit and vegetables industry (filière) has recently had to deal with issues concerning the legitimate ways of selling these products and a larger range of actors intervening in its government (local authorities, producers, wholesalers, professional organizations) have sought to promote new modes of commercialization which can be described as an attempt to reduce social and geographical distances between producers and consumers. Since 2009, a French public policy has indeed encouraged the development of short food supply chains, defined as supply chains involving none or just one intermediary between the two ends of the chain. These short food supply chains have also been linked by their promoters to the “re-localization” of economic exchanges. Historically, the incumbents of the industry’s government have tried to go beyond such geographical constraints in order to extend their markets spatially, and this by marginalizing politically and economically shorter supply chains. But they now have to deal with new ways of organizing markets and defining the quality of their products. This situation has been examined in this Phd. using rigorous analytical and methodological tools. From this angle, at the local scale challengers have been able to take control away from incumbents by redefining the legitimate issues which need to be treated. At other scales, however, the traditional incumbents are still in control of the industry’s government and the bulk of its economic exchanges. Ultimately, what has taken place is less the re-localization of supply chains within the industry than the institutionalization of new forms of qualification based upon the valuation of the “local” as a distinctive sign of quality

Full textEntrepreneurial orientation is now a highly-proven concept in management sciences. While the work devoted to the subject mostly relates to private enterprises and adopts a quantitative approach, a fresh current has now undertaken to revisit research in this field (methodology, scope…). This doctor’s thesis is in line with the new trend and shows elected local officials’ entrepreneurial orientation through a prospective accompaniment approach. To do this, I have come up with two research proposals. The first is based on stressing the relevance of resorting to the concept in a political environment, and the second rests on the efficiency of the prospective guiding steps destined for elected officials. The review of literature devoted to the entrepreneurial dimension of elected politicians followed by a preliminary approach of the concept through three case studies pave the way for an engineering qualitative approach of action research. It is meant to provide guidance for the structuring of the Health and Biotechnology sector in the Lorraine region. The conclusion of the thesis shows the relevance of the submissions and highlights the conceptual and managerial contributions before it opens up on some forms of potential ensuing research

Full textIn Morocco, beef supply chain is currently facing major challenges: i) an increasing request due to demographic rise and evolution of food practices and ii) commercial opening induced by the agreements of free exchange signed by Morocco. The extensive breeding based upon local breeds in traditional suckling system, already weakened by the climatic risks, an increasing chain largeness, isolation, and continuous genetic erosion, answers hardly to these requests and undergoes an unbearable competition with the production systems benefiting from more favorable conditions. Thus there is a strong interest for a reflection on possible qualification of the traditional system. How the traditional system is characterized at present and how its products position on the market? Can a qualification by the origin open real perspectives of development for this livestock system? On what bases could it lean on and which devices should be envisaged ? We answer these questions through a work organized in three stages: i) we analyze the breeding practices in three areas of Morocco containing a considerable population of suckling cows of local breeds; ii) we examine the downstream of the supply chain since the marketing of the animals until the consumption of the meat; iii) finally, we lead physicochemical analysis and sensory evaluations in order to identify the sensory properties of this meat able to be exploited in a qualification. Lastly, beyond the empirical aspects, our theorization relates to the identification of what is resource in an activity and how to reveal it as an asset. Furthermore, activation of such resources requires identifying the actors able to activate them. Our results bring an original contribution to these questions
