Abstract:
Through an analysis of French mediated celebrity discourse this article examines how pop musicians negotiate same-sex desire and self-disclosure in contemporary France. Coverage of Eddy de Pretto and Emmanuel Moire in popular online magazine and newspaper articles is analyzed in terms of a framework that takes into account the context of dominant and normalizing discourses. Coverage exhibits a substantial range of shared and individual approaches, effectively combining normative and queer representations, French values of republicanism, filiation, and existential authenticity, as well as Anglo-American narratives of the closet and coming out.

AbstractIn this article I explore ways of reading Mesopotamian legal records as narratives and so derive insights into Mesopotamian legal, social, and cultural norms. I examine two prevailing and insufficiently considered scholarly biases and I suggest new ways to study documents. I present a single case from Old Babylonian Nippur by way of example of how we can read Mesopotamian law collections and law cases.

Abstract With the growing awareness of the contribution of parasites to life, their influences on humans also become clearer. The parasite's footprints can be seen everywhere, in genetics, epidemiology, medicine, history and, as this article clarifies, parasites play a vivid part in our cultural imagination surrounding popular entertainment. Drawing and expanding on Michel Serres' and Enid Welsford's discussions of the parasite as a cultural force, this article explores the line of filiation and interplay between biological parasites, circus arts and their comic emblem, the clown, in different narratives and media. It documents not only fantasies of a collaborative relationship between flea performers and their 'masters', and of the relationship between clowns and parasites, both of which are mischievous 'characters', but also circus-related imaginaries of parasitic remote control.

Abstract:

Abstract:
If every human gesture is autobiographical, then autobiographical genres and modes are being enriched day by day by contemporary and emerging disciplines and fields which do not necessarily belong to life writing. When it comes to trauma and war studies, the autobiographical imposes itself in a variety of thematic and structural ways in order to express the subjectivity of the oppressed, not without difficulties. This international and inter-disciplinary cluster of articles proposes to explore autobiography through the filiation narrative, autofiction, the anecdote, the body, the rewriting of the Grand Historical narratives, namely World War Two and the Franco-Algerian conflict, and the deconstruction of such binary oppositions as War Vs Peace and Lived Trauma Vs Narrated Trauma. The present introduction to the cluster will first introduce the genre of life writing in general, and autobiography in particular, by tracing its evolution towards a postmodern, more metabiographical stance. It will then summarize and comment on each article in the cluster so as to highlight their shared thematic patterns and the various findings which are pertinent to the fields of autobiography, trauma and war studies. The final section of the introduction will provide a new perspective on Freudian studies through the lens of auto/biography and metabiography.

Abstract:
In light of a growing number of trauma narratives about child death authored from a paternal perspective within the scope of contemporary French literature, this article explores the récits de deuil of four lesser-studied orphaned fathers: Alain Thiesse's Elle s'appelait Emma (2014), Philippe Delaroche's La Gloire d'Inès (2016), Michel Rostain's Le Fils (2011), and Bernard Chambaz's À tombeau ouvert (2016). This article considers the insight these texts provide into a father's experience of surviving his child and what this means for his altered identity, for his new role in life, and for the ways in which he turns to literature to voice grief. As we reflect on this changed paternal identity as articulated in these examples, we focus on each author's objective(s) in giving sorrow words as well as the choice of literary modalities of these works. A common thread running throughout these varied examples is the topos of voice: an angry scream and a cry for justice, a belated address, and imagined conversations which traverse the present and the afterlife. We discuss the discursive strategies in these grief narratives and three separate aspects of narrative construction with which they engage. First, we consider the father's cry and the strategies of citation in the témoignage Elle s'appelait Emma. Second, we survey the implications of life writing and the ethical imperative with which they coincide in a father's belated address to his deceased daughter in La Gloire d'Inès. Finally, we investigate how modes of fiction restructure and reconceptualize father-son transmission and filiation in Le Fils and À tombeau ouvert. For mothers and fathers alike, the récit de deuil confronts the paradoxical bind of mourning testimony. The crisis of meaning that losing a child sets in motion impels these fathers to make sense of the unthinkable in the process of writing.

Abstract:
AbstractThis paper is concerned with the recovery of the theological import of the infancy stories and to show that they are in fact theological masterpieces. It challenges a prevalent view which treats the infancy accounts as prologues to the Gospel texts and therefore as marginal in theological importance. The infancy accounts of Matthew and Luke are examined in turn as sources of theological creativity and innovation. Since the recovery of the evangelists as redactors in more recent years within biblical scholarship, the unique role of the evangelists Matthew and Luke as distinctive shapers of the tradition is examined, with particular reference to the complex theological themes developed by them in their opening chapters. The complexity, subtlety and paradoxes of the web of allusions in the infancy narratives are explored, both with reference to Old Testament texts and to larger theological themes within each of the respective Gospels. This discussion is based on the premise that the infancy accounts of Matthew and Luke represent mature theological reflection, an alternative Christological horizon, which is retrojected from the passion narratives to the time of Jesus' conception. The paper raises issues of divine pregnancy and divine filiation. The frequency of the use by the evangelists of the metaphor of the child is indicated by specific reference to the texts and the complexity of the interaction of this motif with the overall intention of each of the Gospels is indicated. These themes include the Kingdom of God and the nature of the household of God, for which the motif of the child is both an ethical imperative and an exemplar. Some detailed exegesis by way of elaboration of these themes is provided. The paper concludes with some suggestions as to the bases on which an alternative hermeneutic could be constructed which takes as central the metaphor of the child. The motifs of miracle and parable are relevant, and the nature of the child metaphor as a universal and unitive symbol is explored.

The present research aimed to investigate the experience of foster parents related to parenting and filiation, in the adolescence period of their adopted children. It was sought to understand that relational issues update on the adolescence of those children who have suffered such vicissitudes, as the discontinuity of coexisting with their genitors. The study theoretical foundation was structured from three thematic axes. The first focused on the family as a genealogic entity whose psychic constitution is organized from the parenting and filiation process, gathering notions of narcissism, Oedipus complex and Interdict. In the second main theme was discussed the adoption process and its psychological repercussions, both from the parents perspective, as the children, emphasizing the issue of grief, particularly in respect of discontinuities concerning the biological ties, and the presence of the myth of origin in adoptive families. The third axis corresponded to the understanding of adolescence as an intersubjective event, which is configured as structuring both for the teenager as for the family. A field study was developed from semi-structured interviews with ten independent subjects, eight adoptive mothers and two adoptive fathers, all belonging to the middle and upper layers of the state of Rio de Janeiro population. The adopted children of these subjects were in the adolescence period, between 13 and 18 years old. For the interviews analysis, the method of content analysis was used. Seven categories of analysis emerged from the data obtained: manifest and latent motivations, information about the adoption, myth of origin, identity and identification, support network, parenting in adolescence and, finally, the unfathomable. The most significant results underscored the presence of ambiguity in parenting and filiation, the difficulty of legitimizing adoptive parenting, as well as a strong disregard for the existence of a baby primitive experiences record. One factor found, which proved to be very productive, was parental sensitivity to recognize the children s curiosity about their origin and the sense of dual belonging.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to analyse a group of short stories from guy de maupassant, put together under the title of "lost bastard short stories", using narrative semiotics concepts (narrative schema, passional patterns, discoursing instance). In the first chapter, we describe a narrative structured model fit to the short stories assembled, using the canonic narrative schema, adapted to a special "form of life" (greimas). Identity quest is a specific form of life, where a quest and a gift are coupled, on pragmatic and cognitive levels of narrating instance. The second chapter characterizes stories from a passional model point of view. A passional sequence is described analysing the modal structures of the acting narrative subject. Identity quest is generated by doubting and passional manifestations, recognizable by pain due to the negative figurative features of researched narrative object. In the third chapter, we discribe discoursive figures of narrative semiotics level. In a first part, actorial figures of identity quest are structured by thematic and mythical codes. In a second part, discoursive matrices are discovered, organized by speech and money, inheritance, revenge, one could describe with actantial and anthropological models. The description of discoursive level figures explains the very deep and intricate questions of paternity and filiation by maupassant stories. The fourth chapter tries to applicate the first chapter narrative model on a short story untitled "duchoux", in order to demonstrate that the model may lighten certain narrative text signs, linking them together in an interpretative system

Abstract:
Long-stay homes, retirement homes and care homes have been the subject of an increasing number of novels and filiation narratives in France, particularly since the 1980s. As a result, this thesis establishes the history of this place in literature since the 19th century, justifying the relative institutional silence of the period 1890-1970, in terms of relationship between literature, social and medical humanities, and society. A selected corpus of filiation narratives and realistic fiction is compared with a corpus of eleven semi-directive interviews with nursing home residents in order to highlight the many ways in which people experience growing old and dying in institutions. This research in literary studies combined with a field survey reveals a disturbance in the representations of old age and dependency, reinforced by the prism of filiation, to which an ethic of literature can attempt to respond. Enunciative means - work on the voice of the elderly characters, polyphony of humour, polysemy of literary address - appear to be the most fruitful in restoring the link with vulnerability. Finally, thanks to narrative medicine, the aim is to consider how literary texts can be used to learn about and understand ageing in teaching and training contexts

Abstract:
The cycle Lancelot-Graal, and the Perlesvaus, written in the first half of the thirteenth century, are built around a horizontal time, organized around the figure of King Arthur, which makes any idea of succession problematic. But at the same time, society has undergone profound changes. Whether it is about the institution of marriage, rules of transmission of the inheritance, or the anchoring of the lineage in very specific geographic locations, relationships between individuals have slowly changed. Authors should therefore ensure the coexistence of disparate elements, even contradictory. Genealogy get in Arthurian romance through the Vulgate Cycle. The vertical time affect the novel, and relationships are crucial in narrative constructions of characters

Abstract:
This thesis question the notion of family in connection with mass Killing : the genocide of the Tutsi of Rwanda. It was developed on two main axes. A point of history presented the socio-historical determinants which favorised the extermination of the Rwandan Tutsi. Then a literary analysis established a correlation between the idea of family and this extreme violence, through a corpus of French-speaking writers and survivors of this event. What opened up the study of the Tutsi génocide from the only historic point of view to make a literary subject. In this research work, our subject insisted on the situation of the families which resisted and on those who were decimated in front of ambient genocide. And informed about a tragedy which weakened the links of filiation within the members of the same household and broke the relationship, the brotherhood between nearby families. This study also presented the possible configurations of the family institution after the genocide. Abstract:
If the first novels of Chinese born Canadian author Ying Chen could easily be linked to migrant literature, her latest books do not fit so neatly into this corpus. However, critics generally still approach her work from that same perspective. This study aims to analyse Chen’s novels that depict the ‘‘same’’ anonymous narrator from a more appropriate viewpoint: the perspective of the family unit. The feminist works regarding women role within patriarchy and the critical studies on the narratives of filiation shape our own analysis of the tensions within the family in Chen’s novels. The corpus of study consists of Immobile, which rejects parentage in favour of imaginary ancestors, Le Mangeur, focusing on an overbearing fatherhood and Un enfant à ma porte, that recounts a failed experience of maternity.

ABSTRACT: A double look is launched upon the path that gave rise to the development of the ethnopsychoanalysis and seeks to underline the importance of the migratory experience as a triggering phenomenon for the pursuit of reconciliation between two places. According to the theoretical assumptions of the ethnopsychoanalytic approach, the transition from the country of origin to the country of destination and the experience of disruption that this change implies, put the subject in an extremely vulnerable position that will have a direct impact in the way he/she psychically acknowledges the experience. Through the Free Association Narrative method (Hollway & Jefferson, 2000) we were able to access an understanding of the psychological subject within the context of its migratory experience. By conducting an interview with a woman of Guinean origin that migrated to Portugal at the age of 10, we were able to carry out a detailed analysis of the narrative, guided by the theoretical postulates of the proposed methodology. Among the highlighted themes, identity and filiation arise as core, deeply linked concepts. The way this disruption was experienced by Cassandra is revelatory of the impossibility of rescuing a heritage that is absolutely necessary for the identity negotiation process that should be performed, and is further perceived (in her speech) as a threat of brutal annihilation. Preliminary to a vision of the self, of the other (s) and of the world, marked by a sharp cleavage, and a speech marked by self-contradiction, evasion and doubt, it is perceived in Cassandra that there is a clear inability to build a true identity and individuality meaning, set as absence of a fixed identity structure in space and time (Devereux, 2009).

Abstract:
Abstract ‘Second World War Identities’ analyses the subjectivities of those who served in the 99th (London Welsh) Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment and the 46th (Liverpool Welsh) Royal Tank Regiment through an examination of original wartime letters. It highlights the tensions within the subjectivities of some English Welsh recruits between wartime constructions of ‘home’ as ‘a mythic place of desire’ (Wales) and ‘home’ as the ‘lived experience of a locality’ (England). It examines narratives of filiation, suggesting that patrilineal ties compelled some English-born men to volunteer for Welsh regiments. This chapter provides a case study of siblings Geraint and Mary Eluned Clement Davies who both died whilst serving in the British Forces. It also analyses the life writing of a number of English men and women with Welsh ties who registered as conscientious objectors, reflecting upon the ways in which individuals made use of their Welsh affinities when formulating their opposition to war.

Abstract:
Necrofiction is defined and situated in relation to other contemporary literary forms such as trauma writing (Caruth), filiation narratives and field or documentary literature (Viart), biofiction and restaurative fiction (Gefen), historical inquiry (Jablonka), and authotanatography (Weinmann). Drawing on Pierre Nora’s work on realms of memory, François Hartog’s examination of presentism, and, more importantly, Achille Mbembe’s theorization of necropolitics, the introduction lays the conceptual and contextual framework for understanding the singularity of writing on death and the dead as a defining feature of the ethos of contemporary fiction. Writers use this genre as a form of literary action through a polemical and creative dialogue with other forms memorialization such as family genealogy, historical writing, and official national, ethnic, or religious discourses. Necrofiction often challenges the social, cultural, and political assertions of these non-literary forms in the name of a personal, intimate, lived engagement with death, the dead, and their legacy. Necrofiction seeks to instil meaning into the symbolic body of the dead but, in so doing, is always on the verge of erasing their radical difference and taming their alterity. This contemporary form allows writers to reclaim a representational regime of fiction that can recover from the semiotic and ethical paralysis of trauma writing while also testing literature’s ability to account for the lived experience of death.

Abstract:
This chapter starts with a poem entitled ‘Infinitive of time’ which evokes and promotes the process whereby filiation and legitimacy are giving way to the multiplicities of time. It ends with another, far more obscure poem: ‘Ode to Stone and to Carthage’. In between Glissant returns to the familiar themes of creolization, preserving minority languages, and the move from narrative to poetry. He expands on a distinction he has already used between essentialist ‘Being’ and non-essentialist ‘being’. One section consists of outlining a collective ecological project to make Martinique into an ’organic’ island.

Abstract:
This chapter tackles the information about the goddess Gná in reference works. It mentions that the three skaldic poems, Gylfaginning's short narrative, and citations in several pulur were the source materials about Gná, which limited the possibilities for interpretation. Discussions of the goddess Gná have been dominated by possible filiations to the Graeco-Roman world and etymological interpretations. Even though she is one of the least known and least discussed of the goddesses, she is possibly a key figure in mythology. Moreover, a considerable amount of material mentions the goddess in correlation with flight or airborne figures. The chapter looks into the possible influence of the Church in the interpretation of Old Norse texts.

Abstract:
The work deals with comparing of iconography and meaning aspects of Akkadian composition representing the battle of Gilgamesh and Enkidu with the Sky Bull and one of the scenes from a plate of Karakol cemetery. The paper contains a list of formal and semantic matches of two compositions, considers the parameters allowing the comparison of their characters' key features, reconstructs the invariant pre-base of the myth which is the base of the narrative twists and turns of Mesopotamian epos and Altai Mountains folklore narrative. An assumption has been put forward about Indo-European sources of the Karakol theme brought to Southern Siberia when spreading of Indo-Nuristani filiations of fallen Indo-Iranian linguistic unity to the North-East. The work proved the sources of the primary myth connected to the myth-calendar practices of the first half of 3rd millennium BC in the population of sub-continental areas of Western, Central and North-Western Asia.
