The present research aimed to investigate the experience of foster parents related to parenting and filiation, in the adolescence period of their adopted children. It was sought to understand that relational issues update on the adolescence of those children who have suffered such vicissitudes, as the discontinuity of coexisting with their genitors. The study theoretical foundation was structured from three thematic axes. The first focused on the family as a genealogic entity whose psychic constitution is organized from the parenting and filiation process, gathering notions of narcissism, Oedipus complex and Interdict. In the second main theme was discussed the adoption process and its psychological repercussions, both from the parents perspective, as the children, emphasizing the issue of grief, particularly in respect of discontinuities concerning the biological ties, and the presence of the myth of origin in adoptive families. The third axis corresponded to the understanding of adolescence as an intersubjective event, which is configured as structuring both for the teenager as for the family. A field study was developed from semi-structured interviews with ten independent subjects, eight adoptive mothers and two adoptive fathers, all belonging to the middle and upper layers of the state of Rio de Janeiro population. The adopted children of these subjects were in the adolescence period, between 13 and 18 years old. For the interviews analysis, the method of content analysis was used. Seven categories of analysis emerged from the data obtained: manifest and latent motivations, information about the adoption, myth of origin, identity and identification, support network, parenting in adolescence and, finally, the unfathomable. The most significant results underscored the presence of ambiguity in parenting and filiation, the difficulty of legitimizing adoptive parenting, as well as a strong disregard for the existence of a baby primitive experiences record. One factor found, which proved to be very productive, was parental sensitivity to recognize the children s curiosity about their origin and the sense of dual belonging.

Full textThe purpose of this study is to analyse a group of short stories from guy de maupassant, put together under the title of "lost bastard short stories", using narrative semiotics concepts (narrative schema, passional patterns, discoursing instance). In the first chapter, we describe a narrative structured model fit to the short stories assembled, using the canonic narrative schema, adapted to a special "form of life" (greimas). Identity quest is a specific form of life, where a quest and a gift are coupled, on pragmatic and cognitive levels of narrating instance. The second chapter characterizes stories from a passional model point of view. A passional sequence is described analysing the modal structures of the acting narrative subject. Identity quest is generated by doubting and passional manifestations, recognizable by pain due to the negative figurative features of researched narrative object. In the third chapter, we discribe discoursive figures of narrative semiotics level. In a first part, actorial figures of identity quest are structured by thematic and mythical codes. In a second part, discoursive matrices are discovered, organized by speech and money, inheritance, revenge, one could describe with actantial and anthropological models. The description of discoursive level figures explains the very deep and intricate questions of paternity and filiation by maupassant stories. The fourth chapter tries to applicate the first chapter narrative model on a short story untitled "duchoux", in order to demonstrate that the model may lighten certain narrative text signs, linking them together in an interpretative system

Full textLong-stay homes, retirement homes and care homes have been the subject of an increasing number of novels and filiation narratives in France, particularly since the 1980s. As a result, this thesis establishes the history of this place in literature since the 19th century, justifying the relative institutional silence of the period 1890-1970, in terms of relationship between literature, social and medical humanities, and society. A selected corpus of filiation narratives and realistic fiction is compared with a corpus of eleven semi-directive interviews with nursing home residents in order to highlight the many ways in which people experience growing old and dying in institutions. This research in literary studies combined with a field survey reveals a disturbance in the representations of old age and dependency, reinforced by the prism of filiation, to which an ethic of literature can attempt to respond. Enunciative means - work on the voice of the elderly characters, polyphony of humour, polysemy of literary address - appear to be the most fruitful in restoring the link with vulnerability. Finally, thanks to narrative medicine, the aim is to consider how literary texts can be used to learn about and understand ageing in teaching and training contexts

Full textThe cycle Lancelot-Graal, and the Perlesvaus, written in the first half of the thirteenth century, are built around a horizontal time, organized around the figure of King Arthur, which makes any idea of succession problematic. But at the same time, society has undergone profound changes. Whether it is about the institution of marriage, rules of transmission of the inheritance, or the anchoring of the lineage in very specific geographic locations, relationships between individuals have slowly changed. Authors should therefore ensure the coexistence of disparate elements, even contradictory. Genealogy get in Arthurian romance through the Vulgate Cycle. The vertical time affect the novel, and relationships are crucial in narrative constructions of characters

Full textThis thesis question the notion of family in connection with mass Killing : the genocide of the Tutsi of Rwanda. It was developed on two main axes. A point of history presented the socio-historical determinants which favorised the extermination of the Rwandan Tutsi. Then a literary analysis established a correlation between the idea of family and this extreme violence, through a corpus of French-speaking writers and survivors of this event. What opened up the study of the Tutsi génocide from the only historic point of view to make a literary subject. In this research work, our subject insisted on the situation of the families which resisted and on those who were decimated in front of ambient genocide. And informed about a tragedy which weakened the links of filiation within the members of the same household and broke the relationship, the brotherhood between nearby families. This study also presented the possible configurations of the family institution after the genocide. It showed that with the massacres which deconstructed the household the survivors to begin an impact strength, recompose of new sibships, new families
Payette, Isabelle.
Full textIf the first novels of Chinese born Canadian author Ying Chen could easily be linked to migrant literature, her latest books do not fit so neatly into this corpus. However, critics generally still approach her work from that same perspective. This study aims to analyse Chen’s novels that depict the ‘‘same’’ anonymous narrator from a more appropriate viewpoint: the perspective of the family unit. The feminist works regarding women role within patriarchy and the critical studies on the narratives of filiation shape our own analysis of the tensions within the family in Chen’s novels. The corpus of study consists of Immobile, which rejects parentage in favour of imaginary ancestors, Le Mangeur, focusing on an overbearing fatherhood and Un enfant à ma porte, that recounts a failed experience of maternity.
ABSTRACT: A double look is launched upon the path that gave rise to the development of the ethnopsychoanalysis and seeks to underline the importance of the migratory experience as a triggering phenomenon for the pursuit of reconciliation between two places. According to the theoretical assumptions of the ethnopsychoanalytic approach, the transition from the country of origin to the country of destination and the experience of disruption that this change implies, put the subject in an extremely vulnerable position that will have a direct impact in the way he/she psychically acknowledges the experience. Through the Free Association Narrative method (Hollway & Jefferson, 2000) we were able to access an understanding of the psychological subject within the context of its migratory experience. By conducting an interview with a woman of Guinean origin that migrated to Portugal at the age of 10, we were able to carry out a detailed analysis of the narrative, guided by the theoretical postulates of the proposed methodology. Among the highlighted themes, identity and filiation arise as core, deeply linked concepts. The way this disruption was experienced by Cassandra is revelatory of the impossibility of rescuing a heritage that is absolutely necessary for the identity negotiation process that should be performed, and is further perceived (in her speech) as a threat of brutal annihilation. Preliminary to a vision of the self, of the other (s) and of the world, marked by a sharp cleavage, and a speech marked by self-contradiction, evasion and doubt, it is perceived in Cassandra that there is a clear inability to build a true identity and individuality meaning, set as absence of a fixed identity structure in space and time (Devereux, 2009).
