Full textAnthropogenic atmospheric aerosols have been recognized to have significantly affected the climate system through their interactions with radiation and cloud during the last decades. Besides these well-known butpoorly-understood physical processes in the atmosphere, recent studies reported strong influences of aerosols on the carbon cycle, especially its terrestrial component. The changes in carbon cycle will further alter the climate through the climate-carbon feedback. It remains uncertain how much anthropogenic aerosols perturb the land carbon cycle. This thesis aims to quantify and attribute the impacts of anthropogenic aerosols on the terrestrial cycle using a modeling approach. In Chapter 2, a set of offline simulations using the ORCHIDEE land surface model driven by climate fields from different CMIP5 generation climate models were performed to investigate the impacts of anthropogenic aerosols on the land C cycle through their impacts on climate. The results indicate an increased cumulative land C sink of 11.6-41.8 PgC during 1850-2005 due to anthropogenic aerosols. The increase in net biome production (NBP) is mainly found in the tropics and northern mid latitudes. Aerosol-induced cooling is the main factor driving this NBP changes. At high latitudes, aerosol-induced cooling caused a stronger decrease in gross primary production (GPP) than in total ecosystem respiration (TER), leading to lower NBP. At mid latitudes, cooling‐induced decrease in TER is stronger than for GPP, resulting in a net NBP increase. At low latitudes, NBP was also enhanced due to the cooling‐induced GPP increase, but regional precipitation decline in response to anthropogenic aerosol emissions may negate the effect of temperature. As climate models currently disagree on how aerosol emissions affect tropical precipitation, the precipitation change in response to aerosols becomes the main source of uncertainty in aerosol-caused C flux changes. The results suggest that better understanding and simulation of how anthropogenic aerosols affect precipitation in climate models is required for a more accurate attribution of aerosol effects on the terrestrial carbon cycle

Full textThis thesis present a work on the determination of the cosmological parameters, used to describe the energic content of the Universe and its curvature, from the actual data : supernovae (UNION), cosmic microwave background (WMAP) and baryon acoustic oscilliations (SDSS). Moreover, we studied the assumptions assumed. The type Ia supernovae observation indeed shows the acceleration of the Universe expansion, explained by the dark energy with and unknow nature. In this context, we realized the combined analysis of the three probes and the result is compatible with the cosmoloical constant. However the geometrical degeneracy imposes to use of the flatness assumption. We evaluated the risks of bias on the cosmological parameters determination thanks to simulations. So a curved universe with a dynamicla dark energy may be interpreted as a flat universe with a cosmological constant

Full textSolar irradiation is the most important parameter for building thermal simulation. Its calculation requires geometrical relationships for the direct radiation from the Sun and a sky model to distribute the radiance over the sky vault. Sky models developed for solar collectors are used to calculate the building’s solar irradiation availability. Some software calculates building’s irradiation by adapting sky models for lighting simulations. These models allow to compute solar irradiation, but the selection of the most suitable model for urban applications has not been defined clearly enough. We developed a code, based on the study of numerical methods, sky models and the necessary meteorological data. It calculates the solar irradiation availability in the urban context. The novelty lies in its capacity to evaluate the solar irradiation from the Sun and the sky by using three sky models: one isotropic and two anisotropic. The interaction between each sky model and the urban context is made clear in a series of progressively more complex geometric examples. Procedures to partition the sky vault are presented.Differences between the predicted irradiance by the anisotropic models (Perez punctual source and Perez All-Weather) are classified as small and large in unobstructed and obstructed scenes respectively. Contributions have also been made to set up a meteorological station. Statistical analyses as well as quality control procedures of meteorological data were also implemented

Full textThe measurement of the matter distribution in the Universe provides valuable tests for cosmology. It can be traced at various steps of the formation of structures using the analysis of the primary and secondary anisotropies in the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). This thesis focuses on the data analysis of the observations of the Planck satellite and that of the ground-based camera NIKA installed at the IRAM-30m telescope. The first part introduces the context, focussing on: 1) the inflation, which provides a natural origin for the matter fluctuations seen in the Universe; 2) the reionization, which corresponds to the moment when the first stars form; 3) clusters of galaxy, that are the building blocks of the more recent Universe. The second part focuses on the data reduction of the NIKA data. The development of the data reduction pipeline, allowing to go from raw data to maps, is presented. It is dedicated for the newly developed kinetic inductance detectors used by NIKA. Tools and simulations are also constructed to characterize the maps. The third part is dedicated to the observation and the analysis of galaxy clusters through the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) effect, i.e. the inverse Compton interaction of CMB photons and free electrons in clusters. Once recovered, the SZ maps are combined to X-ray data to measure the matter content and thermodynamic properties of the observed clusters. The main results are: the first observation of the SZ effect with kinetic inductance detectors, the measurement of the pressure profile of a high redshift cluster ($z=0.89$), the study of point source contamination in a resolved cluster, and the SZ mapping in a triple merger. The last part is dedicated to the analysis of Planck polarization data. In particular, we discuss large angular scale systematics and the tools developed to identify and correct for them. The large scales CMB polarization data allows both to search for the imprint of the quantum fluctuations generated during inflation, and to measure the reionization
