Abstract:
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to determine the spreads of the idea of feminism, i.e., whether the idea will also reach out to the men. This study uses feminist theory and is based on the data in the forms of two poems written by two male poets, "Adam di Firdaus” by Subagio Sastrowardojo and "Perempuan” by Emha Ainun Nadjib. The result shows that the colour of feminism in poetry is not dominated by female poets. Some poetries written by male poets such as Subagio Sastrowardojo with his poem "Adam di Firdaus" and Emha Ainun Nadjib with his poem "Perempuan" also show the idea of feminism. However, different from poetries of feminism written by female poets which commonly represents woman as a victim of gender ideology, in poetries of feminism written by male poets, the awareness of feminism and gender equality appear after the woman is represented as a victim of gender ideology. Key Words: the victim of gender ideology, feminism, gender equality

Abstract:
The aim of this article is to re-conceptualize the meaning of morality according to the perspective of feminists. This article employed the method of literature review within the qualitative approach. Morality, in the history of western thought, is often related with the concept offered by Immanuel Kant. Human being is perceived to have a sufficient ratio to access the universal morality. Therefore, there is no reason for not following the principles of morality. Nevertheless, feminists argued that the concept offered by Kant does not give a flexible space for the dynamics of contingent things, such as feeling, sensitivity, and inclination. Whereas, these contingent things have given such an influential meaning for the concept of morality. Marilyn Friedman (2000) specifically proposes and explains this point of view in her article entitled “Feminism in Ethics: Conception of Autonomy”. Her approach is thus later shown clearly in the concept of care ethics. Even though, I argue that care ethics would not substitute Kantian ethics, but rather complement it, so that the paradigm of the morality can be seen broader from several perspectives. This entwined paradigm, between Kantian and care ethics, is then can be employed to analyze various social phenomena that occur in our society.

This return to Marx is necessary if we are effectively to overcome gender oppression, especially since the latest trends in feminism—or at least those "fit to print" and discussed in the popular press—place the onus of equal treatment squarely on women's shoulders. Newfound feminists like Sheryl Sandberg advise women to "lean in" and adjust their behavior to suit the aggressively entrepreneurial norms rewarded in the real world that men lead. As Nancy Fraser aptly puts it, these tendencies within feminism serve as "capitalism's handmaiden": such identity-centered, cultural critiques have helped obscure capital's dependency on gendered oppressions.… Fortunately, recent scholarship by Heather Brown as well as Federici herself provides useful insights for feminists on how to reconsider Marxist theory.

Click here to purchase a PDF version of this article at the Monthly Review website.

Full text
Abstract:
This analysis of Kay Scarpetta acknowledges the importance of feminism in the identity of this woman detective. Kay Scarpetta contests patriarchy from the root: she is a forensic anthropologist with the necessary intellectual abilities and expertise for the pursuit of criminals. She has the power to solve the murder, the patriarchal privilege enjoyed by the traditional male detective, but her characterisation retains feminine characteristics, too: she can admit to be afraid in the face of danger and she cares for victims, those lying on her autopsy table – many of whom are women – but also the ones left behind. Kay Scarpetta’s identity leads her to expose the forms that women’s victimisation can take in a society based on prioritising men’s privileges. The obstacles that Kay Scarpetta has to overcome in order to expose patriarchy will not discourage her, though, since her ultimate goal is to help dignity and equality prevail.

Abstract:
Elizabeth Barrett Browning's Aurora Leigh is an unusual Victorian heroine because she ultimately combines career and marriage. Although Aurora's story has been recognized as an important revision of a traditional woman's story by such famous readers as Virginia Woolf (182–92) and Ellen Moers (60–62), some feminist critics have been disturbed by the ending, even as they describe its compelling feminist vision. Rachel Blau DuPlessis, while acknowledging that the story is a “rescripting,” argues that “being an artist is, at the end, reinterpreted as self-sacrifice for the woman, and thus is aligned with feminine ideology” (87). Sandra Gilbert and Susan Gubar argue that Aurora has to learn “not to be herself,” that is, she must learn sympathy and service (576–77). Deirdre David goes even further in asserting Barrett Browning's conservatism when she argues that Aurora's art does not subvert Romney's authority; instead, feminine art serves “male socialist politics” and “a woman's voice [speaks] patriarchal discourse – boldly, passionately, and without rancor” (134).

Kata kunci: struktur ideologi;strategi produksi; Terry Eagelton[Production Strategy and Ideological Structure in Perempuan Berkalung Sorban] This study aims to describe the production strategy in the external constituents and the text’s ideological structure in the internal constituents in the novel Perempuan Berkalung Sorban (PBS), written by Abidah El-Khalieqy by using Terry Eagleton’s concept. The method used is descriptive qualitative. The results of the research prove that (1) the PBS has passed through an external material production process, by following strategies. During the reformation period, the ideologies in the PBS novel had become the articulation of power. To get past the strict censorship of production, the PBS’s author raises the themes of romanticism, humanism and social realism in the pesantren society which are arranged aesthetically by the authors in PBS like popular novels in general. (2) The internal constituents reveal the ideological structure of the PBS in relation to historical incidents which are intended to be a criticism on the regime of power, especially the pe-santren communal society which is identical to the patriarchal ideology. This is done by negotiating challenging ideologies, namely feminism, humanism and sexualism against the dominant ideology which is a patriarchal ideology that is conservative and repressive towards women's behavior.

Abstract:
This article explains the phenomenon of marginalization on Minangkabau women in West Sumatra. The author uses some feminist theoretical concepts to analyze how social construction puts women in their reality of life. Then, to read the position of women oppression in their poverty, or women’s poverty in their oppression. This research is important because the facts show that many Minangkabau women struggle against poverty which often seems to be against their nature. In this position, this research is expected to reveal the understanding of women’s dominance in Minangkabau culture, West Sumatra. This research uses a descriptive-phenomenological approach as an exploration and clarification effort, then explains the phenomenon of women’s impoverishment as a social reality. The poverty shackles of women in this research are based on two things, namely their inadequacy against the paternalistic culture and its obstacles to find better economic access for a more dignified life.]

From the “bucket” to the right to day care: struggles of working mothersABSTRACTThe present study tries to share the results of a master’s research written at Faculdade de Educação of UNICAMP/SP, which objective was to investigate the struggle of working women for the education of their sons and daughters in day care center in order to verify if the usufruct of this reflected in the quality assurance of early childhood education. Twelve working mothers were interviewed in a municipal day care center in Santo André/SP. It had as main interlocutors Fúlvia Rosemberg, Ana Lúcia Goulart de Faria, Maria Amélia de Souza Teles and Elisabeth Souza- Lobo, militants of the field of childhood and / or feminism. As results, it was verified that the right to day care is an essential aspect of the process of emancipation of women, and is an instrument of struggle and of empowerment. It has also been revealed that working mothers want not only a place of care and assistance for their children but, above all, a public education with quality, in collective spaces and with qualified professionals to educate young children, this being a complementary education to the education offered by the family. It was evidenced also an articulation between the female work and the presence of support institutions such as day care center and pre- schools. Keywords: Strauggle for day care. Working mothers. If it is mastery itself which is undergoing deconstruction and if the modern tradition of painting is conventionally recuperated as a tradition of masters, then feminist practice has not surprisingly tended towards the exploration and celebration of its difference(s) at the margins of painting … And yet in this very deconstructive exploration, this celebration of difference, feminist practice reinscribes itself within Tradition and as fundamental to postmodernity. Abstract:
The author analyzes the evolution of the national movement in Ireland in the first half of the 20th century through the prism of women's participation and gender equality issues. It is argued that the Irish nationalists' choice of patriarchal Catholic ideology has not been predetermined since the revival of Irish nationalism, and although the Catholic faith played a significant role in the anti-British activities of the Irish national movement, there were many Protestants among its activists, as well as women who shared feminist values and played an important role in organizing the political and military struggle of the Irish for independence. The article focuses on the various methods of women's participation in the Irish national movement, including the creation of separate women's organizations, and membership in key societies and groups, as well as participation in constructing barricades and in fighting during the Easter Rising. It was more difficult to take part in the specifically women's struggle to grant Irish women the right to vote, which was associated with the activities of London organizations, the Women's Socio-Political Union specifically. It is argued that it was the anti-British orientation of the Irish political struggle that made it impossible (or difficult) to associate Irish feminists with the goals of the women's movement in the United Kingdom, which led to the victory of the social doctrine of Catholics and the “enslavement” of Irish women after the Irish Free State was created. The article analyzes not only sources of personal origin, telling about the participation of Irish women in the national movement, but also official documents of the young Irish state, demonstrating the evolution of its ideology in social and gender issues towards a patriarchal approach to the role of women in society, the fight against which has become the task of feminists of the second wave starting in the 1970s.

Abstract:
This paper offers a Lacanian/feminist reading of Night, Mother by the American playwright Marsha Norman. The play Night, Mother will be read according to Lacan’s point of view and the concepts of identity and identity formation are studied in this paper. The play will be analyzed based on the Lacanian concepts of the contrast between the Imaginary Order and the Symbolic Order, and the notion of Death Drive, suggesting that in the play Jessie represents the Symbolic Order and her mother, Thelma, represents the Imaginary Order. The notion of Death Drive and its omnipresence in Jessie’s psyche is discussed and emphasized. Thelma functions as the Other for Jessie, while her father functions as the Mother, a reversal of gender roles in the Lacanian reading. Moreover, the relationship between some of the concepts are explained. It will be explicated how the play can be brought in line with a feminist reading of Lacan by reversing the stereotypical gender roles and subsequently getting close to post-feminist authors.

Abstract:
This paper describes a number of ways in which the dominant societal response to allegations of ritual abuse as untrue - as being produced by a combination of ‘moral panic’ and ‘false memories’ - impacted on research conducted with women and men who identified themselves as survivors of such abuse. (In Britain the research conducted by Jean La Fontaine and the press coverage it received is taken to exemplify this response.)The author's research was based on life history interviews conducted with 14 adults aged between 19 and 58 (11 women and 3 men). This is a reflexive, feminist account of knowledge production that endeavours to make visible the specific social and political context that shaped the researcher's engagement with ethical and epistemological issues, the selection of interviewees, structure of interviews, the questions and answers of the research interviews, and the interpretation of ‘data’. The collision between the lived experience of the researcher, that of her informants, and the ‘discourse of disbelief’ surrounding the subject of ritual abuse, is understood as crucially determining of the research knowledge produced. Attention is given to the disembedding process by which research moves from specific, emotional and embodied encounters to academic articles, and the implications for belief/disbelief in this process.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is an attempt to examine women’s artistic images and their verbalization in Khaled Hosseini’s novel “A Thousand Splendid Suns”. In this study, the authors try to analyze the manifestations of the feminine discourse of the two main female characters in the novel “A Thousand Splendid Suns” in sociocultural and linguostylistic aspects. In the recent years women’s studies are becoming more and more significant; female discourses are being analyzed form different scientific points of view. Considering the relevant scientific works of eminent scientists, the authors of this article conclude that artistic images play an extremely important role in the implementation of current topics and ideas of any literary work: artistic images have the ability to produce new ideas and communicate these ideas to readers who in their turn could interpret them according to the cultural background, which ensures the formation of the linguistic and cultural concepts. Khaled Hosseini’s female characters’ discourse in his novel “A Thousand Splendid Suns” is multilayered: on the one hand, it is actualization of the personal fight for basic human rights within family hierarchy (cultural aspect) and on the other hand, it is the fight for civil rights from the point of view of social context.

Abstract:
The article, based on the example of the personal diary of a Soviet provincial woman of the mid-20th century, considers such important problems for cultural history and historical anthropology as genesis and dynamics of the ideas of contemporaries of a particular historical epoch about happiness, love and time. It is shown that in their interpretations presented in T. D. Rozhkova’s diary historically, culturally, socially and personally conditioned propositions peacefully coexisted. The ratio of the typically Soviet, typically feminine, typically intellectual and purely private is not amenable for rigorous assessment. Nevertheless, no matter how tricky the interweaving of the normative and the casual in T. D. Rozhkova’s notions of happiness, love and time was, in general, they certainly gravitated towards a universal understanding of happiness, love and time as the most important aspects of human life, firmly established in the sphere of individual and collective imagination. At the same time, despite the fact that the diarist’s main task was clearly not the task of objectively reflecting reality, her diary turned out to be filled with the zeitgeist. First of all, it is exposed by rhetorical models and narrative templates used by T. D. Rozhkova in her speculations on happiness, love and time — speculations that captured that an ordinary Soviet person lived a rich inner life, and his or her “Sovietness” was not something one-dimensional at all.

Abstract:
Manufacturing and construction companies are significant contributors to most accidents in Indonesia. Accident frequency rate (AFR) can be reduced by adopting an appropriate management system, technical approach, and safety culture at the workplace. Employees' perception of Work Safety culture is the key to success in minimizing AFR. A survey of employees' perception of safety can identify their reality concerning the Safety Climate at their workplace. The study aimed to observe Safety Climate through a survey of employees' perception on the dimensions of management commitment, safety communication, safety rules and procedures, supportive environment, personal safety involvement and needs, and safety training. The study discusses possible ways to improve the safety climate in their organization and provides feedback to maintain and improve it. A mixed-methods descriptive design was used for this study. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula and the sample selection using the Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling method. The survey was conducted on 156 employees using a questionnaire model with a personal approach to all levels of employees in a feminine care products manufacturing company. The survey result was analyzed quantitatively through assessments on questionnaires and qualitatively through employees' comments. The study found employees' perception of safety climate to be at a reasonable level. The management commitment dimension in this study has the best assessment result. The analysis results showed that the active role of the leadership, strong safety values to build employee interaction, employee involvement and investment in training programs for employees were critical keys to the successful implementation of Occupational Safety.
