Becoming, a concept from the work of Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari,1 is an asignifying process of transformation that unsettles the taken-for-granted. Engaging with micropolitical movements of power and resistance, becomings generate fissures and lines of escape that are difficult to classify or categorize. In this Deleuzio-Guattarian intoxicated poem, the author explores his imperceptible becoming following the surgical removal of an oral cancer.

Straipsnyje analizuojama Gilles’io Deleuze’o ir Felixo Guattari kuriama mikropolitikos samprata, kuri priešpriešinama makropolitikai, veikiančiai pripažintų politinių teorijų ir apibrėžtų tapatybių lygmenyje. Mikropolitikos projektas siejamas su tapsmo mažuma, mažosios literatūros, mažosios politikos sampratomis, kurios nukreiptos ne į tapatybės kūrimą, bet į tapsmo procesą, inovaciją, eksperimentą. Deleuze’as ir Guattari teigia, jog tapsmas mažuma yra universalus procesas, kurio tikslas – kiekvieno individo autonomija. Deleuze‘o ir Guattari universalaus tapsmo koncepcija priešpriešinama Alaino Badiou kuriamai karingojo universalizmo sampratai. Badiou postuluojamas universalizmas iš pirmo žvilgsnio yra panašus į Deleuze’o ir Guattari siūlomos tapsmo teorijos universalumą, tačiau abiejų teorijų turinys radikaliai skiriasi. Deleuze’ui ir Guattari pats tapsmas mažuma yra universalus procesas; Badiou, priešingai, mažumas ir skirtumus pasitelkia tam, kad juos redukuotų į lygybę ir vienodumą. The concept of minor literature appears in Deleuze and Guattari’s Kafka: Toward a Minor Literature and is defined by three characteristics: 1) the deterritorialization of language; 2) the connection of the individual to a political immediacy; 3) the collective assemblage of enunciation. The notion of minor literature is closely related with the notion of becoming-minoritarian developed in A Thousand Plateaus. Deleuze and Guattari claim that becoming-minoritarian is the universal figure of consciousness. In this sense, any kind of becoming is a revolutionary act, because it changes the political constellation of power and enables the repressed to reach an autonomous condition. The concept of becoming-minoritarian is introduced to the contemporary political context through the notion of minor politics, discussed by Nicholas Thoburn. Minor politics is seen not as a fetishization of marginal identity but rather as a possibility to legitimize the existence of those who lack any social identity. In this sense, the notions of becoming-minoritarian and minor politics are contrasted with Alain Badiou’s claim to universality: the question is raised as to whether becoming-minoritarian should necessarily end in autonomy, as Deleuze and Guattari argue, or, by contrast, whether it should seek to universalize the minor and in this way raise the claim for universal justice.Keywords: micropolitics, minor literature, becoming-minoritiarian, the particular, universalism.

Straipsnyje analizuojama socialinių institucijų kritika, išplėtota Deleuze’o ir Guattari knygose Anti-Oidipas ir Tūkstantis plokštikalnių bei trumpame, bet reikšmingame Deleuze’o tekste „Prierašas apie kontrolės visuomenę“. Deleuze’as ir Guattari kuria mašininę visuomenės sampratą: jų teigimu, skirtingas socialines ir ekonomines formacijas įmanoma įsivaizduoti kaip virtualias mašinas, kurios gali aktualizuotis bet kuriuo istoriniu momentu. Analizuodami valstybės aparatą, Deleuze’as ir Guattari vengia nuorodų į konkrečias valstybes; veikiau jie kalba apie universalią valstybę-formą, kuri veikia kaip užgrobimo aparatas. Valstybė-forma suvokiama kaip suvienodinantis ir standartizuojantis principas, o karo mašina, priešingai, siekia sulaužyti sustingusias formas ir kurti inovacijas. Šie du agregatai – valstybės aparatas ir karo mašina – apibūdina ne tik valstybę ir jai besipriešinančias jėgas, bet persmelkia visas žmogaus veiklos sferas: mokslą, filosofiją, meną. Deleuze’o ir Guattari formuluojama valstybės aparato kritika artima Michelio Foucault disciplinos visuomenės teorijai. Foucault galios samprata taip pat yra mechanicistinė: galia persmelkia sociumą įsikūnydama disciplininiuose aparatuose. In Anti-Oedipus, Deleuze and Guattari analyze the territorial, despotic and capitalist machines which are seen not as different stages of historical evolution but as different types of an abstract machine. In A Thousand Plateaus Deleuze and Guattari develop the mechanistic notion of the state: the state – form is an abstract machine or a diagram which can be actualized in different historical state forms. The state – form is juxtaposed to another type of assemblage called the nomadic war machine. If the state-form functions as a principle of unification and standardization, the war machine is seen as a principle of metamorphic transformations and innovations. Deleuze and Guattari’s theories of society and state are compared with Michel Foucault’s mechanistic notion of society. Deleuze contrasts his notion of control society to the notion of discipline society by Foucault. If the mechanisms of discipline are discontinuous and function in precise space areas, the mechanisms of control produce continuous and all-encompassing networks which totally merge with our corporeal existence.Keywords: social machines, state apparatus, war machine, discipline society, control society.

Abstract:

The works of Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari are known to be the most popular ones in Europe and Russia among the works of post-structuralist philosophers of the second half of the XX century. In a project called nomadology, Deleuze and Guattari attempted to update questions about the relationship between philosophy and science, philosophy and religion, philosophy and politics, politics and war. The article analyzes the ways of setting and solving these issues. The methodological basis of the analysis serves the principles developed by Ludwig Wittgenstein in the framework of the philosophy of everyday language.

Abstract:

Felix Guattari’s ‘Schizoanalytic Cartographies’ acts as a methodological blueprint and can be used to explain a subject’s lack of expressivity when confronted by Foucauldian systems of discipline and punishment. Understanding mechanisms of regulation and control within a closed or open system is the purpose of cybernetics. This communication studies tradition emerged from the artificial intelligence work of Norbert Wiener’s data flows with the intentional purpose of steering people, thought, societies, and the cosmos towards—becoming. Using the analogy of the octothorpe (#) as a roadmap explaining the four cartographies (Flows, Phyla, Territories, Universes) as outlined by Guattari, this manuscript will analyze the film, ‘War Games,’ demonstrating schizoanalytic technique. Another layer of power over humanity is not a panacea, rather it ushers forth civilisation’s speedier, and predicted, demise.

Title: Interpretation of Deleuze and Guattari Theories in Architecture Philosophy influenced all architects through theories of philosophy which is it acted as a set of the idea to practice in design. It is can be looked at the contemporary architectural trend which trying to demonstrated the deconstruction philosophy through architecture style, or it is can be observed in architecture literature which trying to adopt the philosophy of phenomenology and so forth. These examples revealed that there are relationship between philosophy and architecture. So, In this case, the philosophy become very important and then to be an alternative in term of exploration and searching the new concepts of creation of architecture. Both of Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guatari are thinkers or philosophers that revolutionary. Their thought influenced architecture although not so much whom that directly apply their work. In this paper, we try to interprete their toughts which covered Desire-Machine Concept, Territorialization- Deterritorializatiion-Reterritorialization Concept, and Rhizome-Tree Concept as well as its application in the field of architecture. It can be an image or an idea of design.

The main ideas or philosophical standpoints I use to analyze the paintings of Egon Schiele and Robert Musil’s novel The Confusions of Young Törless are elaborated in the book he wrote with Felix Guattari, A Thousend Plateaus. In the end, however, the very interpretation of these works of art should shed a new light on the understanding of Deleuze’s thought.

Abstract:

This article examines the seventeenth-century debate between the Dutch philosopher Benedict de Spinoza and the British scientist Robert Boyle, with a view to explicating what the twentieth-century French philosopher Gilles Deleuze considers to be the difference between science and philosophy. The two main themes that are usually drawn from the correspondence of Boyle and Spinoza, and used to polarize the exchange, are the different views on scientific methodology and on the nature of matter that are attributed to each correspondent. Commentators have tended to focus on one or the other of these themes in order to champion either Boyle or Spinoza in their assessment of the exchange. This paper draws upon the resources made available by Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari in their major work What is Philosophy?, in order to offer a more balanced account of the exchange, which in its turn contributes to our understanding of Deleuze and Guattari's conception of the difference between science and philosophy.

Abstract:

This paper describes theoretical developments that have emerged alongside the author’s urban soundscape design practice. The theory, which emerged from a transversal analysis of Henri Lefebvre, Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, and Hannah Arendt, particularly their philosophical investigations of space, rhythm and nature, is presented as four conceptual overlays to aid soundscape design practices in urban spaces. The first conceptual overlay, Radiating Striations of Centralities, synthesises spatial discussions of Deleuze and Guattari and Lefebvre into soundscape design approaches that simultaneously respond to centralized controls and the peripheries of urban spaces. The second conceptual overlay, The Isorhythimc Refrain, convolves Deleuze and Guattari’s refrain and Lefebvre’s isorhythms into identifiable socially controlling rhythms that unfold as captured sonic and gestural forms throughout urban spaces. The third conceptual overlay, Altered Soundscapes as Emergent Ecologies, investigates Guattari’s a-signifying rupture and the potential of soundscape design as rupture to affect the emergence of Lefebvre’s new nature(s) in urban spaces. The fourth conceptual overlay, Disassembling the Collective Assemblage of Enunciation, discusses Arendt’s reflections on social rhythms subsuming society into automated behaviour, and the challenges that can be presented to such automated behaviour through the act of soundscape design. The four conceptual overlays provide sociopolitical and ecological understandings of the urban that contribute to a soundscape design practice from which public soundscape installations are created to subvert controlling spatiotemporal rhythms of the urban for the emergence of new nature(s). The article concludes by suggesting that due to the amorphous characteristics of sound the soundscape designer is in a unique position to affect immediate sociopolitical and experiential transformations of urban spaces.

The article is dedicated to the philosophical concept of rhizome developed by Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari. The author tries to define the capabilities and limitations of rhizome in becoming a methodology for the interpretation of texts. Analysis of the six rhizome principles: connection and heterogeneity, multiplicity, asignifying rupture, cartography and decalcomania, based on Mikhail Shishkin’s novel “The Taking of Izmail”, shows that only the rules of connection and heterogeneity and asignifying rupture seem to originate from European philosophical tradition. Therefore, only these three rules of rhizome may become a method of literary interpretation.

I argue that Kierkegaard’s Journals and Notebooks deserve to be read as works of philosophy and not just used as supplements to bring order and respectability to Kierkegaard’s other writings. There are at least three specific philosophical values in Kierkegaard’s journals – three ways in which the journals create philosophy within their own pages and therefore deserve to be read as independent works of philosophy and not just as supplements to Kierkegaard’s other writing: (1) The journals demonstrate what a true work of existential philosophy looks like. (2) The journals contribute to Kierkegaard’s theory of indirect communication. (3) The journals create new philosophical concepts. All three of these are best understood as philosophical performances or a kind of philosophical theatre. The idea that philosophy can be a kind of theatre is inspired by the work of Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, particularly their book What is Philosophy? I draw from Deleuze and Guattari especially in section (3) to argue that Kierkegaard’s Journals create new philosophical concepts.

Social studies teachers engage a vast subject area within which they can enlist a wide scope of possible curriculum and pedagogy choices. Despite the opportunity to engage students with an abundance of potentially fruitful themes, topics, and ideas, social studies teaching can be captured by the need to cover specific content in particular ways. Philosophers Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari (1983), in Anti-Oedipus: Capitalism and Schizophrenia, would connect such an agenda to the capitalistic machine that shrinks potential sources into what Foucault (1980) sees as tendencies to seek control rather than the openness of becoming. We contend that Deleuze and Guattari’s concept of the rhizome opens new lines of flight in social studies curricula and works to revolutionize social studies as a subject area that often has been over-standardized and taught as one-size-fits-all. We also contend that rhizomic thinking can renew how students see the world and transform how they interpret events, epochs, eras, and cultures by drawing from rhizomic research’s bamboo-like qualities.

Foi analisada nesta instituição a possível emergência de um grupo sujeito e suas decorrentes práticas de liberdade exercidas através de um dispositivo criado pelos próprios participantes da pesquisa, um projeto pedagógico que visa uma educação libertadora e autogestionária. Este documento tiene como objetivo establecer vínculos entre las teorías de la estética posmoderna desarrolladas por Gilles Deleuze y Felix Guattari y las teorías del postcine. Desde la introducción de los términos empleados por Deleuze como rizoma, concepto que utiliza como metáfora para explicar un pensamiento transversal, se implantan nexos de unión entre estas teorías y la película desarrollada por Netflix y Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. Las perspectivas del postcine son de gran utilidad para comprender el contexto en el que se gesta esta película. La crisis de la imagen y la irrupción del cine digital, así como de Internet y las plataformas streaming, suponen un cambio en el paradigma del cine y del espectador, este deja de ser un sujeto pasivo y pasa a ser un sujeto activo. Mediante un análisis retórico se analiza la obra, atendiendo a los presupuestos establecidos previamente por las teorías de Deleuze y Guattari. Concluyendo Bandersnatch como una obra que busca una continua consumición, atrayendo al espectador que busca una mayor participación y el visionado de las múltiples opciones que brinda la cinta.

To »predzgodovinsko delo človeka« Deleuze in Guattari interpretirata kot osrednji napor »primitivnega sociusa«, ki sestoji iz vseh krutih tehnik vpisovanja v telo, kar imenujeta »sistem krutosti«. Avtorja se opreta na Nietzschejevo Genealogijo morale in trdita, da se besedni spomin vzpostavi na podlagi »aktivne sposobnosti pozabe« in s »potlačitvijo biološkega spomina«. Abstract:

<p>In medical-psychology, schizophrenia is defined as a severe psychotic disorder that causes its sufferers to experience hallucinations and chaotic behaviors. However, the paradigm of schizoanalysis considers schizophrenia as a system of thought that opposes the existence of established discourses (i.e. the Oedipus System). One form of schizophrenia can be seen in the Joker movie (2019). This research aims to identify the schizophrenia suffered by Arthur Fleck, the movie’s main character, from the schizoanalysis perspective as proposed by Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari. This qualitative research applied the interpretative description method based on the schizoanalysis perspective. This research found that the Joker character, as a schizophrenic, successfully reconstructs established ideas in his own ways solely through his desires. Joker unleashes his desires through practices presented as a form of resistance to the established system in Gotham City. This “madness” character was displayed by Arthur Fleck who opposes prevailing social values and norms, which he had previously imagined and questioned. However, he ends up destroying a greater system or order. Joker, as a progressive and revolutionary schizophrenic subject, clearly shows how a person can deconstruct the Oedipus to turn it into a counter-ammunition. Furthermore, the movie also shows that the broader “Joker movement” is disorganized as much as it is unplanned, spontaneous, and creative. Such spontaneity and creativity generates the flow of energy which stimulates those demonstrators to take a fight against capitalism. </p>

RESUMO O trabalho apresenta resultados do recorte de uma pesquisa mais extensa, cujo objetivo foi descrever os possíveis processos de subjetivações e/ou agenciamentos que perpassaram o devir docente de 22 licenciandos em Matemática da UFPE, Campus Caruaru. Conduzimos a pesquisa em conformidade com a Filosofia da Diferença, propriamente, com obras desenvolvidas a partir de estudos dos filósofos Michel Foucault (1999), Gilles Deleuze e Felix Guattari (1994) e Suely Rolnik (1996). No percurso metodológico, propomos aos referidos discentes que respondessem um questionário, com cinco perguntas discursivas e, para a descrição dos dados produzidos utilizamos a abordagem qualitativa. Abstract:

Análise de poemas do livro Arquitetura dos ossos (1980), de Age de Carvalho, a partir das noções de tempo, e sua relação com a tradição, e corpo, em seus aspectos decompositivo e degenerativo, como elementos fundantes de sua poesia. Busca-se ler a maneira corrosiva como sua poesia trata das fragilidades do ser e sua condição perecível e material. O ensaio pensa a categoria de corpo sem órgãos como lugar de resistência contra as formas de ordenação, sob a ótica de Gilles Deleuze e Felix Guattari em intertxto com Antonin Artaud, e no intercâmbio com a cidade, a memória e a experiência de morte.

Nesse artigo, de revisão literária, buscamos subsídio teórico conceitual para nos aproximarmos do nosso objeto de estudo: o acoplado roupa-sujeito e seus devires nos tempos de Capitalismo Tardio, observado em movimentos que trabalham a roupa em perspectivas diferentes da produção em grande escala. Propondo inicialmente avizinhar a ideia e a relação ocidental com a roupa, do conceito e da relação que os povos ameríndios estabelecem com ela. Em um caminho conceitual que passa pela Antropologia, com Eduardo Viveiros de Castro e pela Filosofia, com Gilles Deleuze e Felix Guattari. Trazendo como pano de fundo o Capitalismo Tardio, cuja conceituação nos é cedida por Jonathan Crary.

Na área da pedagogia teatral acadêmica, o tema desta edição – Teatro e Comunidade – apresenta relatos e análises de práticas cênicas em comunidades, que discutem as possibilidades e as múltiplas formas artísticas desse tipo de ação, bem como as consequências estéticas, éticas e pedagógicas dessas atuações. Numa perspectiva alternativa ao e adjuvante do ensino formal, o teatro é partícipe ativo na formação da cidadania. Ao ativar processos de subjetivação, desdobrar diferenças – “onde as forças que constituem o corpo entram em uma zona de vizinhança, fronteiriça, em uma co-presença”, segundo Felix Guattari – a atuação poética e as formas heterogêneas de ação nas comunidades intensifica um imenso campo de celebrações solidárias.

Esse artigo busca discutir a institucionalização das perspectivas teóricas e práticas da educação ambiental, tendo como objetivo questionar se esse processo pode manter o potencial político da educação ambiental, ou se ele será responsável por sua despolitização, por transformá-la em instrumento de manutenção do poder governamental constituído, com a justificativa de ser a responsável pela salvação da espécie humana e de outros seres vivos da catástrofe ecológica que se aproxima. Para esse debate, serão utilizadas principalmente as noções de política, polícia, consenso e dissenso no trabalho de Jacques Rancière, além da ideia de grande saúde na perspectiva de Nietzsche, e das forças molares e moleculares desenvolvidas por Felix Guattari.

Abstract:

Este artigo analisa como o perfil de profissional de alto desempenho foi disseminado pela revista HSM Management a partir das publicações entre 1997 e 1999. Adotou-se o conceito de subjetividade a partir de autores como Gilles Deleuze, Felix Guattari e Suely Rolnik, além de valer da análise foucaultiana do discurso. Observou-se que através de diferentes artigos publicados, a revista buscou traçar um perfil de trabalhador para o mercado de trabalho do século XXI. Concluiu-se que, entre outras características, esse trabalhador deveria ser capaz suportar as exigências de um mercado de trabalho flexível além de deter a capacidade de avaliar-se continuamente.

Abstract:

Este artigo pretende evidenciar uma linha de conexão entre as seguintes práticas: do apoio, das equipes de Atenção Básica e do cuidado com a população em situação de rua no âmbito do Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS). A partir do que entendemos ser o objeto de cada uma dessas práticas, os territórios de vida, faremos uso do conceito de “território existencial” de Felix Guattari, buscando afirmar certa lógica de relação com esse objeto. Essa lógica permeia tanto a prática do apoiador quanto o trabalho dos serviços de Atenção Básica. Para evidenciar essa linha de conexão, tomamos como analisador algumas questões colocadas no cuidado em saúde com a população em situação de rua.

A partir de ejemplos de la cultura de masas contemporánea se postula la centralidad del deseo para comprender los actos humanos y el entramado institucional que en su conjunto constituyen una sociedad. Para lo cual, se parte de dos grandes perspectivas en lo referente al estudio y la comprensión de esta circunstancia que llamamos “deseo”; la de Jacques Lacan, misma que podríamos considerar como la “tesis”, y la de Gilles Deleuze y Felix Guattari a modo de “antítesis”. Y en una tercera parte del trabajo se plantea la posibilidad de llegar a una síntesis de ambas. Teniendo como objetivo general el ofrecer herramientas conceptuales y teóricas para el abordaje antropológico del deseo.

AbstractIt is remarkable how much we can understand about an environmental problem at a mere glance. By means of a glance - at once quick and comprehensive - we can detect that something is going wrong in a given environmental circumstance, and we can even begin to suspect what needs to be done to rectify the situation. In this paper I explore the unsuspected power of the glance in environmental thought and practice, drawing special lessons for an ethics of the environment. Specific examples are analyzed, and authors as diverse as John Dewey and Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari are invoked in an effort to develop a coherent vision of how the human glance helps to locate and remedy environmental crises.
