Abstract:
Using bioinspired models and methods is one of approaches for solving tasks of swarm robotics. In this paper one of such tasks, modeling of foraging, and it’s solving by creating analogues of social structures of ants and models of feeding behavior are considered. The most important characteristics of ants’ colonies for modeling were defined – individuals number in society and it’s structure, workers’ speed, a communication distance and working area size. Besides, existing experimental basis (a group of robots and a polygon) was estimated for a usage as a hardware platform for experiments. Several models of feeding behavior were considered: a model without foragers’ functions differentiation and a model with differentiation on active and passive ones. Active foragers look for resources by themselves, then they involve passive foragers; passive foragers are settled on a base, while are not involved in harvesting. A set of finite state machines describe the behavior of agents: basic automatons (provide basic behavior functions) and a meta- automaton, that switches with some conditions an execution of basic automatons. Basic movements were tested on experimental basis. A complex test of models were conducted in a simulation program Kvorum. An analogue of real polygon was made in the program. Modeling consists of series of experiments for every model in which agents must harvest resources. Series differ from each other by number of agents. For models’ quality estimation a ratio of received energy to average obtaining time. Experiments settle that model with functions differentiation works more effective.

The development of industrial automation has urged the vibratory feeding system to become an efficient automation equipment. With vibration as the operating mode of the vibratory transmission system, the moving mass has a crucial impact on transmission rate and efficiency of the material. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out real-time vibration measurement of the vibratory feeding system and get feedback to the control system, so that the vibratory feeding system works more efficiently. The paper provides two vibration measuring techniques which separately uses the displacement sensor and the acceleration sensor. Through comparing the two methods, it provides a strong basis for choosing better measuring technique for vibratory feeding system.

Abstract:
The techniques of heterotrophic microalgae cultivation used to be resulting in higher productivity and better yield than autotrophic culturing. Batch cultivation strategy is commonly used with high glucose concentration, but its potential is limited for biomass production at an industrial scale. Usually, the best productivity can obtain at lower glucose concentration. Moreover, other carbon sources can cause inhibition at higher concentrations. Therefore, the fed-batch cultivation strategy is an obvious choice, as it can maintain the optimal amount of carbon source can be maintained throughout the fermentation by automating the feeding. Such self-regulatory automation is provided by the pH-auxostat addition of acetic acid, which was investigated in this study for Chlorella vulgaris fo. tertia. The pH-auxostat fermentation was upscaled, then the feeding profile was modelled and transformed to another fermentation where glucose was used as a carbon source instead of acetic acid. Thus, the preferred carbon sources were compared under the same circumstances. It was found that the tested strain consumes dissolved oxygen very fast on both carbon substrates. It favored the acetic acid at high nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations. The final biomass concentration was 29.2 g/L under pH-auxostat fed-batch strategy with acetic acid and 18.8 g/L with glucose, respectively. The highest lipid content (393 mg/g) was measured from the biomass in the case of acetic acid. The fermentation settings need further optimization, but the results concluded that pH-auxostat acetic acid feeding has a great potential for scale-up of Chlorella fermentation.

Abstract:
Modern agriculture, such as aquaponics, has become a well-known solution nowadays for farming, especially in Asia countries. It provides an alternative to support food demands and maintain environmental sustainability. However, it requires manpower and time to maintain and monitor the system. This research proposes a smart automation aquaponic monitoring system that helps users maintain and monitor the system through smartphone applications. The system uses DHT11 to record temperature and humidity, HC-SR04 for water level, and FC-28 to maintain soil moisture. The sensors are integrated with WeMos D1 Wi-Fi Uno based ESP8266 microcontroller to process the data. The data collected is stored in the cloud and retrieved via the Blynk application, which also performs as an actuator and allows users to control the parameters involved. The application helps to monitor the humidity, temperature, and water level in the fish tank and control the actuator for feeding fish. The system also sends a notification to the user for any activities performed, such as watering plants, feeding fish, and abnormality of temperature in the surroundings. The performance of the system was evaluated using regression modeling. The result indicates positive growth for both plants and fish during the monitoring duration, suggesting the proposed system's effectiveness. Overall, this solution helps to reduce manpower and operation costs as well as alternatives for food demand and stabilize environmental sustainability, especially in the urban residency.

HighlightsDevelopments in automatized feeding lead to farms being locked industrial production sites.LiDAR and Radar facilitate driverless feed mixers by covering navigation and safety aspects.External safety of driverless vehicles can be compensated with optical, acoustical and organizational measures.Abstract. Present automatic feeding systems (AFS) for dairy cattle are predominantly machines with additional external structures, e.g., bus bars and guide rails. In order to achieve complete automation of the feeding process, future AFS must be adaptable to different types of farm structures. Technologies such as LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) and Radar (Radio Detection and Ranging) enable free navigation of self-propelled feed mixer wagons and make important contributions to personal protection and collision avoidance. This enables the feed mixer to reach silo systems independently, remove feed and present it at the feed table. Using a self-propelled mixer feeder, both LiDAR and Radar are comparatively analyzed in a practical series of tests under farm conditions. Research into the legal framework and an exemplary risk assessment lay the conceptual basis for future automatic feeding systems. The aim of this consideration is to derive a coordinated concept for the areas of navigation and collision protection in an automatic feeding system for next-generation dairy cattle. Abstract:
Abstract Feeding is one of the most critical aspects of freshwater fish farming in order to get optimal aquaculture outcomes. It has been widely acknowledged that feeding is often done directly by cultivators, who distribute the feed by employing hand. This common strategy can result in two outcomes. The first outcome is an increase in feed costs owing to excessive feeding, while the second outcome is an increase in feed costs due to excessive feeding. Overfeeding, as a matter of a fact, may lead to the result in leftover feed that is not devoured by the fish, contaminating the pond water and disrupting the pH stability of the pond water. In addition, the second effect that may occur is a shortage of nutrition and nutrients in fish, which can lead to poor fish development. Another issue in aquaculture is the high mortality rate of fish, which actually contain several reasons, one of which is poor water quality, which is not conducive to maximal fish growth and development. Cultivators must thus regularly examine the quality of pond water, specifically the pH of pond water. In light of these concerns, we require a system that can assist farmers in controlling feed scheduling, determining the amount of feed required based on the age of the fish, and monitoring water quality. The device in question is an automated fish feeding and water quality monitoring system. This automated solution has shown to provide a number of benefits. The benefit is that feeding can be scheduled, the amount of feed can be changed according to the age and demands of the fish, and the pond water quality, in this case the pH of the water, can be automatically monitored. Further, the research was carried out at different stages. Planning and data gathering, needs analysis, implementation, and system testing were all aspects of the research. The RTC sensor, pH sensor, and temperature sensor were all employed in the automation system. The RTC sensor was utilized to time the feeding schedule for the fish. The pH sensor detected the pH value of the pool water, while the temperature sensor detected the temperature of pool water. The data collected from the three sensors was then processed by the NodeMCU ESP8266 microcontroller. The NodeMCU ESP8266 microcontroller chip houses the system’s logic and software instructions. The data of the sensor was transferred and recorded to a Google spreadsheet, where it was utilized as an indication to control actuators such as servo motors and relays. Further more, the fish feed was opened and closed by utilizing a servo motor. The pH pump was turned on and off using the relay as a switch. This pH pump contained fluids to keep the pH levels in the water stable. Through employing NodeMCU ESP8266 microcontroller, this study has revealed to be able to create an automated system for feeding and monitoring water quality. The automation system then was able to perform the feeding activity in accordance to schedule set, and also was able to perform it according to the specified amount of feed. In addition, the quality of the pond water was also able to be monitored.

Abstract:
As automation solves the bottleneck involved in drug screening, new bottlenecks present themselves. Some of these bottlenecks include sample management, hit picking and confirmation, and reagents lost as a result of incomplete runs. To keep up with the demands of a large HTS department, scientists spend a disproportionate amount of time simply feeding these systems with samples and reagents. Automating the sample management functions directly on the screening systems would solve this problem. With the use of online data analysis, an integrated sample store permits automated hit picking and confirmation. In addition to these issues, other bottlenecks are often caused by instrument malfunctions. A single lost run can now mean a loss of hundreds of plates and the reagents associated with their testing. A system was designed to include four assaying systems that are fed by an automated online sample repository system. Redundancy between the assaying systems allows for an extra level of error handling in case of a malfunction. The control of such a system requires a sophisticated scheduler/controller software package capable of coordinating the interaction between multiple systems and reacting to changes in the robotic environment in realtime. This paper discusses the design of the system as well as the requirements and selection of an appropriate scheduler/controller package.

Abstract:
In the pursuit of automating the entire underground drilling process in coal mines, the automatic rod feeding technology of drilling robots plays a crucial role. However, the current lack of positional accuracy in automatic rod feeding leads to frequent accidents. To address this issue, this paper presents an algorithm for compensating positioning errors in automatic rod feeding. The algorithm is based on a theoretical mathematical model and manual teaching methods. To enhance the positioning accuracy, we first calibrate the pull rope sensor to correct its measurement precision. Subsequently, we establish a theoretical mathematical model for rod feeding positions by employing spatial coordinate system transformations. We determine the target rod feeding position using a manual teaching-based approach. Furthermore, we analyze the relationship between the theoretical rod delivery position and the target rod delivery position and propose an anisotropic spatial difference compensation technique that considers both distance and direction. Finally, we validate the feasibility of our proposed algorithm through automatic rod feeding tests conducted on a coal mine underground drilling robot. The results demonstrate that our algorithm significantly improves the accuracy of rod feeding positions for coal mine underground drilling robots.

Abstract:
Abstract The dairy industry has an increasing availability of equipment that is readily available for the automation of management tasks, including milking and feeding, as well as the monitoring of dairy cow behavior. Such automation not only has the ability to improve production and time efficiency on farm, but also increases our ability to monitor individual cows. Rapid adoption of automated (robotic) milking systems (AMS) is a good example of such benefits. Producers who have adopted this technology suggest they gain more time flexibility, find work to be less stressful and physically demanding, and report improved quality of their own life as well as that of their cows. At the same time, adoption of AMS may be associated with improvements in cow health and productivity. Similar findings apply for the adoption of automated milk feeders for dairy calves. The adoption of automated milk feeders has been done in effort to provide higher milk allowances, and thus raise healthier and better growing calves, reduce labor, and improve working conditions on farm. While less studied, automation in feeding of lactating cows also holds much promise for improving feeding accuracy and precision; thus not only reducing labor needs, but also having positive effects on cow production and efficiency. Finally, there is also rapid adoption of automated technologies for individual behavioral monitoring of dairy cows. These technologies have widely been adopted for estrus detection. In addition, they are also useful for detection of health disorders, both in occurrence and in advance of clinical symptoms. This, in turn, allows producers to identify and implement prevention and treatment protocols at earlier time points. It is anticipated that in the future such behavioral monitoring will play a larger role in terms of informing management decisions on farm.

Combine harvester have to be operated in a wide range of field condition which may induce varying feeding rate. Forward speed is a main variable to control the feeding rate of combine harvester for high efficiency. In this study a control strategy based on optimum threshing power consumption model was developed and integrated into a speed control system for combine harvester automation. A conventional self-propelled combine harvester (Xinjiang-II) was equipped with multiple sensors to collect online information, including forward speed, threshing drum torque and speed. Forward speed was then adjusted by an electric-hydraulic unit based on designed PID controller to achieve an optimum range of threshing power consumption. Field test was conducted to evaluate the performance of the controller under variable feeding rate condition. From obtained results, the controller can improve the efficiency of tested machine during field operation.

Vibratory feeding is the most significant approach for parts orientation and feeding in production; the process of production automation has been seriously hindered due to the problems with low feeding efficiency, high jamming rate. This project combines machine vision and vibratory feeding technology in substitute for the currently used mechanical orientation mechanism, in order to automatically recognize work pieces of different size, shape and color. The special vibratory feeder and frame are designed. According to the system work requirement, in the thesis, the adjustable light source and illumination system are designed, and the CCD camera and optical lens are chosen. The pneumatic actuator is also designed with the microcomputer as the controller. The area, perimeter, dispersion and invariant moment parameters are used in parts type identification. The image centroid is used to confirm parts position. By using the Hough transform, the image edge can be extracted to get the deflection angle. By using Matlab, the image can be captured, processed, analyzed and judged, meanwhile, communicate with actuator and control it.

Abstract:
Automation reduces the impact of farming on climate change and helps farmers adapt to its financial impact. Automatic feeding systems (AFSs) increase the ruminant’s feeding precision and ease operators’ workload. Such systems exist on a spectrum, requiring varied levels of operator support and installation complexity. A recent survey on farmers pointed out that those already running an AFS and those willing to buy one appreciate its ease of use, the resulting animal welfare, and the resulting overall benefits (increased production, farm profitability, and reduced feed waste). Whether technologically complex or not, studies have confirmed the benefits that farmers perceive to be underlying the remarkable reduction in the environmental impact of feeding operations (AFSs are electrically powered), the increase in animal welfare resulting from reduced conflicts around accessing the feed bunk, and the constant availability of fresh feed. However, their introduction should follow accurate and holistic structural and economic planning for existing and newly built facilities. The availability of public subsidies plays an essential role in pushing farmers to adopt the most modern digital technologies, whose benefits may even increase when farmers couple them with interconnected sensors to monitor animals’ physiological states.

Abstract:
Birds are vertebrate animals characterized by feathers and wings. Their melodious sounds and colorful plumage make them a popular choice for bird breeders, which presents a promising business opportunity. Manual feeding and drinking requires farmers to feed and drink every day, which often results in delayed feeding and drinking or inconsistent dosing, causing birds to become susceptible to disease and death. Therefore, this study is intended to create an automated system for monitoring feed and drink at predetermined times utilizing the Internet of Things (IoT) concept. The system's schedule can be remotely accessed and monitored through a website, and it operates in real-time without requiring manual intervention. This allows farmers to monitor and provide birds with food and water even from a distance. The Internet of Things (IoT) system utilized in this research employs an ESP32 microcontroller as the primary controller, which connects to a Wi-Fi network. It features a servo motor designed to refill bird feeders and drinkers. Further, a mini pump is used to replenish water in the drinker based on the owner's predetermined schedule set via the application. The research concludes that the tool functions based on the input time on the website. The system sends notifications to the breeder's smartphone regarding successful feeding and drinking, with an error rate of less than 20% in system testing and over 80% accuracy in system functioning. The outcome is in the form of a tool dispensing feed and drink daily, in accordance with the breeder's specified hours

IoT technology is useful for chicken farming to control the condition of the farm concerning some problems such as odour, temperature fluctuations and feeding time system. This study used MQ135 to detect ammonia odour level, DHT11 to check room temperature, and RTC3231 to regulate feeding time. The data obtained from the sensor was sent by wemos to the fire base and MySQL to be read on android so that it can be monitored directly by the breeder. When the ammonia level is above normal it will turn on the odour fan. If DHT11 reaches the value above 300C, it will turn on the cooling fan, and turn on the heating light when the temperature is below 250C. As RTC3231 sets the time at 07.00 and 14.00, the chicken feeder will automatically open to feed the chickens according to the time set. Table 1 and 2 show that the experiment obtained a value of 100% working well. ABSTRACT The main goal of modern intensive fish farms should be to increase productivity at a low cost. The automation of fish feeding plays an important role in this scenario since it may improve feed efficiency and reduce organic waste emissions. The aim of this experiment was to provide basic information for the development of feeding techniques using automatic feeders. The experiment was done from September to December, with tilapia weighing 185g, fed 48 meals a day at 22 or 30 minute intervals, with feeding rates of 2, 3 and 4% of live weight. Eighteen 1m3 net cages equipped with automatic feeders were distributed in one pond. During the experimental trial the mean values for dissolved oxygen, pH and temperature were 3.20mg/l, 8.03 and 25.43°C, respectively. The highest average weight of 683.73g was achieved for fish treated with 4% of live weight at 30 minute intervals between meals. There was no difference for viscero-somatic index, demonstrating no alteration in the final carcass quality. These results demonstrate that a higher feeding rate added to efficient feed management can be used at the final stages of raising Nile tilapia in cages without compromising final fish productive quality.
