Williams, Jane. "Stress-free vet visits: considering the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic." Companion Animal 27, no. 2 (February 2, 2022): 1–11. http://dx.doi.org/10.12968/coan.2021.0066.

Abstract:
Visits to the small animal veterinary practice are typically stressful for many animals, especially where they already have an anxious or fearful disposition. Although the purpose of the visit is to improve the animal's welfare (by improving physical health and wellbeing), there may be an impact on the animal's mental health and emotional state. The current pandemic situation has made vet visits even more difficult, because a number of options for preparing for the visit, or carrying out the visit itself, have not always been available. This article considers techniques for minimising fear, anxiety and stress in companion animals being treated at the vet practice, through preparation, protocols and procedures. Principles of good practice when helping animals to have the least stressful experience during a vet visit are considered. Additional special measures for particularly anxious or fearful animals are also discussed. The identification of stress-reducing protocols is largely based on the low-stress handling techniques identified in research and the importance of these as perceived by veterinary staff. Changes within the practice that have impacted animals' anxiety levels, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, are identified and considered. Reflections concerning the pandemic experience, as provided to the author by a number of veterinary surgeons and nurses, are recorded and considered as the basis for further research. Consideration is also given to the feasibility and value of retaining some changes implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract:
The wearing of a white lab coat during a visit to the veterinarian is common practice in veterinary medicine to avoid cross contamination or the spread of diseases in a clinical setting. “White Coat Effect” in both human and animal medicine has been of research interest. This study sought to explore if the visual of a white coat does in fact play a role in eliciting avoidance in dogs measured by preference for a veterinarian wearing a white coat versus one not wearing it. We investigated whether dogs would choose to retrieve a food reward from the veterinarian not wearing a white coat more often. We predicted that dogs would approach the veterinarian not wearing a coat first, would avoid approaching the veterinarian with the white coat, and would spend more time around the veterinarian not wearing the coat. A modified conditioned place preference paradigm was used to design this study. Two veterinarians were in a room, one wearing a white coat and one not wearing it, with a dog and the dog’s owner. Data was recorded for how many times the dog approached each of the veterinarians, and how much time it spent in proximity of the individuals in the room. Dogs showed preference for the veterinarian not wearing a white coat and spent more time between the owner and the veterinarian not wearing a coat. This study gives insight on how veterinarians can decrease stress during a vet visit. The white coat appears to be a stressor making the visit to the vet more challenging to the canine patient. Veterinarians and staff shall provide a comfortable setting for patients so that they can properly assess and treat them, while decreasing fear of the vet visit.

Struthers, Karen, and Glenda Strachan. "Attracting women into male-dominated trades: Views of young women in Australia." International Journal for Research in Vocational Education and Training 6, no. 1 (April 25, 2019): 1–19. http://dx.doi.org/10.13152/ijrvet.6.1.1.

Abstract:
Context: The persistent low female participation in male-dominated trades is not attracting a high level of public attention and policy action. There are determined, yet adhoc actions by advocates in response to evidence that economic benefits will be derived for industry and women through increased female participation in the male-dominated trades. Occupational segregation of the trades remains resistant to change. Methods: To better understand the barriers limiting female participation in the male-dominated trades from the perspective of young women, this PhD study features interviews with female secondary students, complemented by interviews with industry stakeholders and a quantitative analysis of VET and trade participation data. The three primary research questions are: 1) What is the extent of gender segregation in vocational education and training (VET) and typically male-dominated trades in Australia, and how does this compare internationally? 2) Why do very few female students choose male-dominated trades as their job pathway? 3) What can be done, particularly in the education and training sectors, to increase female interest in, and take-up of, the male-dominated trades? Findings: The results of this research showed that the composition of trade-qualified females in male-dominated trades is persistently low at 2-3%. The views of young women affirmed the evidence showing system-wide barriers limit female interest in these trades. Most influential is that gender stereotypes of work are set by Year 10 and that female enrolment in Maths (a pre-requisite for male-dominated careers) is low; these trades are seen as “jobs for the boys who don’t do academic,” and the fear of intimidation and harassment deters young women. Low enrolment of female students in male-dominated trade courses indicates that this entrenched occupational segregation of the trades will remain resistant to change for some time to come. Conclusion: The findings indicate that ad hoc responses to overcome gender segregation of the trades is not effective. Influenced by systems theory and a social ecological model (SEM) of change, the researchers promote the need for sustained, nation-wide awareness and action involving VET and school sectors, industry, government and trade unions to attract more women into male-dominated trades.

Abstract:
Abstract Search of new approaches for harmless, non-medication treatment of body dysfunctions is still on the agenda of vet and human practitioners and researchers as well. This study presents evaluation of the effect of “Stress Relief” dietary supplement (SR) on mice behaviour under different acute short-term stress conditions and treatment duration. Five experiments were performed and in each 40 animals were randomly split into four (I–IV) groups, where I and II — non-stressed mice, III and IV — stressed animals, I and III received water with trace mineral solution (TMS), II and IV received water with SR. As stress factors, forced swimming, rodent predator odour or both together were applied. Locomotor activity under normal and stress conditions in Open Field were observed and measured by a SMART video-tracking system. Blood glucose level was measured as well. SR showed a reversal of stress-decreased locomotor activity in all stress models — distance walked increased almost twice (p < 0.0001), central zone crossings and time spent in it were 2–4 times greater than in the control group (p < 0.0001 and p = 0.0002, respectively), and fast movement episodes and maximal speed increased by 50–200%. In addition, complete normalisation of stress-induced elevation of blood glucose level (p < 0.0001) was noted. These results demonstrate for the first time that the effect of “Stress Relief” formula (water additives–minerals processed by know-how way in Vital Force Technology using Dr. Yury Kronn method) can be observed in laboratory animals, and that the effects are significant and repeatable. SR shows fear- and stress-reducing activity, which does not sufficiently differ between 7-, 9-, 14-, 28- and 32-day treatment regimes.

Abstract:
Current computer and display technology allows the creation of virtual environment scenes that can be utilized for treating a variety of psychological disorders. This case study demonstrates the effectiveness of virtual environment desensitization (VED) in the treatment of a subject who suffered from fear of flying, a disorder that affects a large number of people. The subject, accompanied by a virtual therapist, was placed in the cockpit of a virtual helicopter and flown over a simulated city for five sessions. The VED treatment resulted in both a significant reduction of anxiety symptoms and the ability to face the phobic situations in the real world.

Abstract:
Many canine patients have a requirement to return to the veterinary practice on a regular basis for treatment. Those that have associations of fear or anxiety with a practice, can find themselves in extremely stressful situations, effecting not only the animal but also the owner. Therefore it is important to take into consideration the welfare of the animals that are returning for further consultations, such as wound care. Consideration of what can be done to try and make these visits as stress-free as possible is essential. The veterinary nurse should be aware of methods that can be utilised to distract patients when undergoing potentially uncomfortable and stressful treatments.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to make a case for creating a strand of negotiated qualifications in the English (and more generally UK) vocational education and training (VET) system, using the approach established through Ufi-Learndirect Learning through Work (LtW). Design/methodology/approach – The paper identifies some limitations in the recent Whitehead review of adult vocational education in relation to people already in work. Drawing on research into learning at work, modifications to the VET qualifications system are proposed based on the LtW approach. Findings – The VET qualifications system assumes a purpose of preparing people for occupational entry and developing essential competence. The needs of adults already in work can be accommodated provided that they can be fitted within structures reflecting this assumption. It is less able to meet the bespoke needs of individual workers or employers. The LtW approach, which enables individual accredited programmes to be negotiated, offers a way forward that preserves the integrity of the qualification system. Practical implications – Implementing a LtW-type approach in the VET sector is structurally more difficult than in higher education, although less likely to encounter academic resistance. The main challenge is likely to come from the need to modify regulatory rules and design principles for vocational qualifications. Originality/value – Individually negotiated qualifications have been resisted in VET due to largely unfounded fears about reduced rigour and loss of control of content. The proposed approach offers a means of meeting individual needs while retaining the integrity of the qualifications system and reducing the proliferation of units and content within it.

Abstract:
Background: This study examined the implementation outcomes (program reach, fidelity, adaptations, responsiveness) of a peer-led program for older adults with fear of falling — Vivre en Équilibre (VEE). Method: VEE was implemented in six independent-living residences for older adults in Quebec (Canada) as part of an effectiveness study. Implementation outcomes were documented using attendance sheets, peer leaders’ logbooks, observation sheets, and phone-administered questionnaires. Qualitative interviews were also conducted with peer leaders, activity coordinators of residences, and a subsample of program participants. Results: The program reached 71 participants who generally corresponded to the program’s target population. Peer leaders delivered the program with moderate to high fidelity but adapted some elements. Responsiveness was good, as reflected by a high attendance rate (91%) and respondents’ satisfaction levels. Conclusion: Findings revealed that VEE was well implemented, suggesting that it can be successfully delivered by peer leaders.

Abstract:
The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of virtual environment technology in the area of psychotherapy. In particular, this study investigated the effectiveness of virtual environment desensitization (VED) in the treatment of agoraphobia (fear of being in places or situations from which escape might be difficult or embarrassing). Sixty undergraduate college students served as subjects. Thirty subjects served in the experimental group and the other 30 served as a control group. Subjects' degree of fear/anxiety was measured using two instruments, the Attitude Towards Agoraphobia Questionnaire (ATAQ) and the Subjective Units of Discomfort Scale (SUDS). Only subjects in the experimental group were exposed to the VED treatment. The scores of the control group did not change significantly, while both ATAQ and SUDS scores decreased significantly for the experimental group. The average SUDS scores of the experimental group decreased steadily across sessions, indicating steady improvement with treatment. It is hoped that this research will be a first step toward the utilization of virtual environment technology in providing more effective, economical, and confidential treatment of psychological disorders.

Abstract:
Analyses of textbooks in nursing, of photographs and numerous other documents suggest that parents had limited access to participate in the care for their hospitalized children in Norway in the period 1877-1940. The analyses are conducted in the tradition of the French philosopher Michel Foucault’s writings on discipline. In accordance with Foucault’s understanding, it seems logical that ideas about parenting exclusion had impact even within the hospital health care system in the current era, provided the general separation of parents and children in the modern industrial society at large. In this perspective, exclusion of parents in the hospital health care system may be considered a consequence of employers’ interests with regard to productivity, the lack of welfare services for parents, and the fear of parents transmitting infections from the hospitals.

Abstract:
Context: The train of thoughts in this contribution is situated in the VET teacher training on an academic level, as it is usual in Germany. Key issue is the pedagogical qualification of the VET teachers and the question of how to give them possibilities to reflect their own biography, their interdependences to the actual cultural and economic environment and their way to choose the pathway to become a VET teacher. How to enable them to argue with their values, fears, strength and weaknesses in their life and especially in leading groups, as they will have to do in classroom management. And at least how to give them an idea of an emancipative, critical and participative way of forming learning situations in which they feel sure and lively to encourage the apprentices and learners in schools to act autonomic and critical in work and besides. This is necessary because of the changes in work and VET in the recent centuries with consequences for workers, learners and curricula as well as the contradictions in that process.Approach: The transformation and the liberalisation of markets and changes of work organisation, the enlargement of tasks in the occupations adds greater meaning to social knowledge and competences, the ability for teamwork and personal development in vocational education. To develop this ability Theme-Centered Interaction (TCI), as a humanistic-psychological approach is used and combined with Critical-Subject-Oriented Vocational Education Theory, inspired by the Critical Theory of the Frankfurt School. VET-teacher students learn in theory and practice to shape their own way to lead themselves and the pupils in the class and to reflect their activities in a critical way of thinking. The paper ends with brief description of seminar lectures with VET teacher students at the University of Rostock where TCI is practiced as one example how we can reach the objectives described before. Findings: The TCI-concept is helpful to set up better teamwork and self-reflection in the group of the learners. It’s a useful way to prepare them for their practical school phase in which TCI is used as reflection model as well.Key message: Universities as learning places in the tradition of enlightenment have to open up spaces in VET teacher development for domination-free communication and participatory learning within the framework of university studies, which can create a distance to a given social reality, enables students to dissociate from collectively developed goals to become critical formers of their working life and teaching.

Abstract:
Background: Various preventive strategies have been employed to curb the spread of HIV infection as there is presently no cure. Abstinence, avoidance of multiple sexual partners, condom use, voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) and treatment of HIV-infected individuals form the cornerstone of HIV prevention. This study assessed the acceptability of VCT among medical students in a single institution in Nigeria Methodology: Self-administered questionnaires were distributed to clinical medical students of the University of Jos in a cross-sectional study. Results: Out of a total of 368 students surveyed, 178 (50.7%) have had VCT. There was no significant difference between the proportion of males and females who had had VCT previously (48.9% of males and 56.3% of females; χ2 = 1.65, OR = 0.76 95% CI: 0.46-1.20; p = 0.19). The majority of the respondents (83.1%) would want to have VCT. Fear of a positive test result was the main reason given by those who would be unwilling to be tested. Gender had no effect on the willingness of the subjects to have VCT as 81.8% of males and 87.1% of females were predisposed to it (χ2 = 1.95; OR = 0.63, 95% CI: 0.31-1.26). VCT acceptability was similar among sexually active and inactive respondents (80.2% and 80.2% respectively; χ2 = 0.018, p = 0.99). Conclusion: Awareness of VCT services and acceptability of VCT among medical students is high. These students can be role models for the optimization of VCT services.

Yet, scholarly accounts rarely unpack the precise ways in which indignation performs these roles, and how it transforms individuals who join mobilization. This article conceptualizes indignation as a moment of affective transformation, based on affect-theoretical insights and drawing on the empirical analysis of the Belgian yellow vest movement (BYV). Building on focus groups, participant observations, and interviews, we unpack the complex affectivity of indignation and the dynamics that underlie indignation in the context of protest and mobilization. We find that indignation enables three affective transformations: (1) it acts as a tipping point that follows from individual feelings of resentment; (2) it is a moment of affective resonance that binds individuals in affective communities, (3) it acts as affective bifurcation from the disempowered state of fear and towards the reclaiming of political power.

Abstract:
Emerging economies have specificities which distance them compared to advanced economies in practicing inflation targeting (IT) monetary regime. One of the main differences in performing IT in advanced compared to emerging economies is ?fear of floating? problem in emerging group. However, on the road from exchange rate (ER) as a nominal anchor to IT, differences between advanced and emerging economies concerning ?fear of floating? have been more or less narrowed. In this paper we are concentrated to selected aspects of ER pass-through to prices and output, as well as (in)direct monetary policy reactions to ER shocks, trying to find out is significant difference observable between advanced and emerging IT countries in pre-crisis period and (post)crisis period. The comparison is made on the basis of forecast error variance decompositions from estimated Vector Autoregression (VAR) / Vector Error Correction (VEC) models. ?Fear of floating? phenomenon should not be exclusively applied to emerging economies, especially in the crisis period burdened with external shocks. The role of ER in IT monetary framework is strengthened with higher internal vulnerability to ER shocks, despite the level of economic development. Advanced countries more use interest rate as an indirect way to withstand ER shocks, while emerging economies more use direct way via foreign exchange interventions to withstand the ER shocks.

Abstract:
The researcher sought to find out whether the economic situation of the students has an impact on the way they respond to the VCT services. The researcher sought to find out their monthly income, place of residence, whether they have access to television, radio or newspapers as a source of information and if they have heard of any VCT awareness campaign. The VCT facilities have not however been fully utilized especially by the youth. Based on this realization the study sought to determine the influence of socio-demographic factors on the response of college students towards VCT services. Purposive sampling was used to select three colleges to be used in the study out of nine major colleges. This being a descriptive research, a stratified random sampling design was appropriate. More female students were aware of the VCT services 82.6% as opposed to 68.2% male while less than half of the population 45.7% were aware of the location of this facility. The study concludes that the percentage of college students who are tested for HIV is relatively low considering the effort that has been made by the government, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders in creating awareness on HIV/AIDS campaigns. One of the recommendations by the authors is that college students should be helped to deal with stigmatisation, fear and discriminations.

ADMINISTRATION OF ROTENONE DURING NEONATAL PERIOD INDUCES SCHIZOPHRENIA-LIKE BEHAVIOR." Schizophrenia Bulletin 46, Supplement_1 (April 2020): S106. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/schbul/sbaa031.245.

Abstract:
Abstract Background The neurodevelopment refers to the process that generates and shapes the nervous system of animals. It begins during the earliest stages of embryonic development and it is the last system to be completed after birth, which occurs during the end of adolescence. The majority of mechanisms that constitutes neurodevelopment, such as cell proliferation, migration and neural differentiation, axon growth cone and dendritic filopodia formation as well as synapse are ATP dependents, therefore mitochondria dependents. Hence, disturbs during nervous system development can lead to behavioral deficits and neuropsychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia. Results of our research group showed that a mitochondria dysfunction during neurodevelopment, by Rotenone (a complex I inhibitor) administration, induces behavioral deficits, such as hyperlocomotion and decreased social interaction, when the rats were young adults (60 days old). Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the behavioral deficits in an early age (prodromal phase) and if the behavioral deficits presented at young adulthood could be attenuated or reverted by antipsychotic (Haldol – Hal) or psychostimulant (Metilphenidate – MPD). Notwithstanding, draw a parallel between this animal model and a neuropsychiatric disorder. Methods To reach this goal, we treated intraperitoneally wistar puppies (P) with Rotenone 0.1mg/kg (Rot), Saline (Sal) or Vehicle (Veh) (DMSO) during P5-P11. To verify the prodromal phase, we performed behavioral tests (open field, social interaction and contextual fear conditioning) at P35. Therefore, in order to analyze the behavior during the young adulthood (P60), each animal previously treated with Sal, Veh or Rot was then treated intraperitoneally, 30 min before the behavioral tests (open field, social interaction and contextual fear conditioning), with either Saline (Sal-Sal, Veh-Sal, Rot-Sal), Hal (Sal-Hal, Veh-Hal, Rot-Hal) or MPD (Sal-MPD, Veh-MPD, Rot-MPD). Results Results showed mean±SEM (n=8 for each group) and analyzed by One-Way Anova and Duncan post-hoc compared to control group (Sal-Sal 100%). At P35, we verified: i) no significant changes in locomotor activity between Rot and Sal; ii) decrease in social interaction after treatment with Rot (68.40%±3.077; p<0.05 in relation to Sal); iii) a reduction in freezing time in contextual fear conditioning task to Rot group (45.20±8.03; p<0.05 when compared to Sal). At P60, we noticed i) an increase in locomotor activity after treatment with Rot-Sal (134.88%±3.95; p<0.05 when compared to Sal-Sal) that was decreased by treatment with Rot-Hal (94.76%±15.74; p<0.05 when compared to Rot-Sal), but not with Rot-MPD (compared to Rot-Sal); ii) a decrease in social interaction at P60 after treatment with Rot-Sal (68.35%±5.87; p<0.05 when compared to Sal-Sal) that was reverted by treatment with Rot-Hal (100.80%±6.66; p<0.05 when compared to Rot-Sal) and also with Rot-MPD (100.6%±6,89; p<0.05 when compared to Rot-Sal); iii) in contextual fear conditioning the animals treated with Rot presented a decrease in freezing response (31.50%±7.36; p<0.05 when compared to Sal-Sal) that was reverted by treatment with Rot-Hal (81.21%±16.65; p<0.05 when compared to Rot-Sal). Discussion We concluded that neonatal treatment with Rot promote behavior deficits at young age (P35), such as deficit in social interaction and emotional memory; in young adulthood (P60) we also verified deficit in social interaction and emotional memory, in addition to hyperlocomotion, that are mostly reverted with treatment with Hal, but not with MPD. Altogether our data suggest a relationship between mitochondria inhibition during neurodevelopment leading to schizophrenia-like behavior.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Today, farmers are multioptional entrepreneurs, demanding far more skills than only those of agricultural production. The awareness of European agricultural landscape (EAL) values should enable farmers to create new business strategies. Open education repositories (OERs) based on online vocational education and training (VET) are still not widespread. The project FEAL (multifunctional farming for the sustainability of EALs) has brought interactive material online based on results of two questionnaire surveys performed in Germany, Italy, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain. A survey of 31 experts confirmed that VET activities are very much needed for farmers. A survey of 28 farmers had different aims and content. Data collected from farmers were used to evaluate basic farm attributes, farmers’ characteristics, and keywords indicating the farms’ activities, multifunctionality and sustainability, and EALs, specifying the presence of nature- and landscape-protected areas. A decision-making schema, applying a collection of terms from literature analysis and the questionnaire’s results, is a support tool to develop a model of a farm that contributes to the preservation of the landscape’s character, strengthening the landscape’s quality, and sustainable business. The model presents the interactions of the farm (its territory and ancestral heritage, control of natural resources, tourism services and cultural events, public goods provision, and quality guarantees); socioeconomic strategies regarding quality, marketing, communication, business operation, and monitoring are proposed.

Abstract:
Refund abuse is especially problematic when implementing value-added tax (VAT). Nevertheless, refunds must be paid promptly to ensure that VAT does not become a cost to business. There is therefore a need to strike a balance between procedures put in place to limit refund fraud opportunities and not causing refund delays. It is against this background that the study sought to investigate the refund processing system in Zimbabwe to highlight potential challenges faced by taxpayers and tax administrators. Evidence was collected by reviewing domestic legislation and other published literature, analysing the administration processes, including administering taxpayers and tax administrators surveys. The study found weaknesses in tax design and administration processes that created opportunities for refund fraud, fraudsters and tax planners taking advantage of the weak structures, taxpayers who fear pursuing their rights (as that will trigger a comprehensive audit), and a general unwillingness of the tax administration to invoke existing tax laws.

Abstract:
Introduction: Health sciences university students (HSUS) are susceptible to HIV infection due to frequent contact with patients whose HIV status is unknown. This study aimed to compare the HIV/AIDS-related knowledge and the willingness to participate in VCT among HSUS, analyzing the differences between groups, and correlation and effect between variables. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 357 HSUS from the faculty of nursing, pharmacy, psychology and medicine at an accredited university. Samples were selected using simple random sampling. Data analysis used descriptive statistic, Pearson correlation, one-way ANOVA test, and linear regression test (α<0.05).Results: Most respondents were 20-21 years old single female who still live with parents, exposed to HIV/AIDS material twice/more via academic activities; lack of HIV/AIDS-related knowledge (51.5%), highest mean found in medical students (73.1%); willing enough to participate in VCT (83.5%), highest mean found in nursing students (86.4%). No correlation found between variables (p=0.101), and the regression model was not significant (p=0.101). HIV/AIDS-related knowledge contributed only 0.8% influence on the willingness to participate in VCT among HSUS (R2=0.008), other unidentified factors possibly play a more important role. Conclusion: Besides knowledge, other factors like demographic factors, social determinants, close person, health education, fear, and HIV-related stigma may affect the willingness to participate in VCT among HSUS. HSUS's knowledge about HIV/AIDS was low but their willingness to participate in VCT was quite high. HIV/AIDS-related knowledge has a slight contribution in determining HSUS's willingness to participate in VCT. Further analysis of other potential factors is needed to determine stronger predictors.

Abstract:
Extinction is the learned inhibition of retrieval. Recently it was shown that a brief exposure to a novel environment enhances the extinction of contextual fear in rats, an effect explainable by a synaptic tagging-and-capture process. Here we examine whether this also happens with the extinction of another fear-motivated task, inhibitory avoidance (IA), and whether it depends on dopamine acting on D1 or D5 receptors. Rats were trained first in IA and then in extinction of this task. The retention of extinction was measured 24 h later. A 5-min exposure to a novel environment 30 min before extinction training enhanced its retention. Right after exposure to the novelty, animals were given bilateral intrahippocampal infusions of vehicle (VEH), of the protein synthesis inhibitor anisomycin, of the D1/D5 dopaminergic antagonist SCH23390, of the PKA inhibitor Rp-cAMP or of the PKC inhibitor Gö6976, and of the PKA stimulator Sp-cAMP or of the PKC stimulator PMA. The novelty increased hippocampal dopamine levels and facilitated the extinction, which was inhibited by intrahippocampal protein synthesis inhibitor anisomysin, D1/D5 dopaminerdic antagonist SCH23390, or PKA inhibitor Rp-cAMP and unaffected by PKC inhibitor Gö6976; additionally, the hippocampal infusion of PKA stimulator Sp-cAMP reverts the effect of D1/D5 dopaminergic antagonist SCH 23390, but the infusion of PKC stimulator PMA does not. The results attest to the generality of the novelty effect on fear extinction, suggest that it relies on synaptic tagging and capture, and show that it depends on hippocampal dopamine D1 but not D5 receptors.
