Abstract:
This article presents a study of the self-presentation of shopping centers in the Czech Republic as “family-friendly” spaces. The notion of family-friendliness is analyzed both as a structural category, referring to the structure of the stereotypical normal family and to its respective members, and as a cultural representation, referring to “family values,” which Czech malls invoke in their self-presentation. It is argued that the presentation of a “space for the whole family” covers only the persistent stereotype of female-led economic consumption. The family values of safety and comfort distinguish shopping centers negatively from the city centers. They also strongly refer to the country’s past by invoking the image of a family promenade. On a more general level, the family appeal thrives on the phenomenon of postsocialist privatism and on the turning away from the public sphere in favor of the private realm of the family.

Abstract:
Abstract The City and County of Los Angeles Age-Friendly Cities initiative, Purposeful Aging Los Angeles (PALA), 2017 needs assessment included an online survey of the workforce expected to implement age friendly policies and programs. The study aim was to describe the rate and characteristics of family caregivers within in the City and County workforce (employees). The overall response rate was 6.5% (City 4.5%, County 7.5%) for a final sample size of 9,071. The family caregiver category was derived from the following survey questions: 1) Are you or someone else in your home caring for a family member or friends who are experiencing problems/thinking that is affecting their ability to work or live a normal life? and 2) Are you a family caregiver? The analysis revealed that 34% of all respondents were family caregivers and of those, 53% cared for adults and 12% cared for children under the age of 18 (minors). Of the 53% caregiving for adults, 40% cared for someone with memory/thinking problems including but not limited to dementia (cognitive impairment). 15% of caregivers of minors were also taking care of an adult with cognitive impairment. The current caregiving research literature suggests that family caregivers experience higher rates of depression, anxiety, and social isolation due to the caregiving demands. Caregiving demands have the potential to create work-family conflicts that are important for employers to consider when designing wellness programs, and other supportive programs. It is critical to identify ways to address caregiving implications on social services, healthcare, and the environment.

Abstract:
Taiwan’s declining birthrate has changed the housing market, which should become more consumer-oriented in the future. In particular, age-friendly housing has become a salient housing choice among buyers. Age-friendly housing consists of housing units that are suitable for occupants of any age. There are three concepts underlying such housing: aging in place, multigenerational-multiunit living arrangements, and lifetime homes. This study aimed to examine the factors affecting consumers’ choice of age-friendly housing. The participants were residents of Kaohsiung City, and data analysis was performed using a binary logistic model. The empirical results indicated that adult sons/daughters, residents who currently live in the city center, residents who have a high or medium monthly family income, residents who are currently part of a stem family, residents who desire to live under multigenerational-multiunit living arrangements, residents who desire to be a part of a stem family, and residents who prioritize housing type when house-buying are significantly more likely to choose age-friendly housing. These results can serve as a reference regarding age-friendly housing investments for investors, as well as for house buyers who are deliberating between age-friendly housing and ordinary housing.

Abstract:
This paper focuses on the meaning of the urban environment for parents on family leave in Helsinki, Finland. Finland is a part of the Nordic model that emphasises ‘family-friendly arrangements’, such as family leave for mothers and fathers. To date, there is little research on how parents use urban space on family leave, although it is known that fathers stay on family leave more often in urban areas. Based on a triangulation of qualitative data on the day-to-day life of mothers and fathers on family leave, the paper argues that particular place-dependent ways of being on family leave take place in the inner city. Mixed-use pavements in many ways help mothers and fathers to cope in their new life situation and break the isolation often associated with family leave. The data also shows the importance of family-friendly public and commercial places in the city, such as playgrounds and accessible grocery shops, cafeterias and restaurants. The paper concludes that there is a need to further explore the production side of the everyday practices of parents, and how they add to city life and participate in changing cityscapes.

The research entitled: "Maqasid al-Shari'ah Analysis of the Role of the Surabaya City Government in Realizing Child Friendly Cities" is a field research that aims to answer the question how the role of the Surabaya City Government in realizing Child Friendly Cities through established public policies from the perspective of the maq??id al-shar?'ah. Research data were collected using interview and documentation techniques and then analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques with a deductive mindset. The results of the study concluded that the Surabaya City Government was very active in realizing Child Friendly Cities through the protection and fulfillment of children's rights, which was clearly seen from the existence of various public policies that were established to support institutional strengthening and fulfillment of the five Child Friendly Cities clusters. The role of the Surabaya City Government is in accordance with the concept of maqasid al-shari'ah because the determination of public policy is based on the welfare of children. This is proven by the elements of hifz al-din and hifz al-nasl in the public policy regarding civil rights and freedom, family environment, and alternative protection. In addition, there are elements of hifz al-nafs and hifz al-aql in public policies regarding institutional strengthening and the five Child Friendly Cities clusters, although they are actually less than perfect due to the absence of the hifz al-mal elements in them.

In the 18th century, Kalimas’s river serves as a workspace, marketing space, and transportation routes for residents of Surabaya. Although the current condition of Kalimas river has changed a lot, but Kalimas’s river has good potential of water tourism and transportation facilities. Therefore, the Surabaya city government setup a policy to revitalize the Kalimas’s River. The submarine monument area as one of Surabaya's landmarks next to Kalimas’s River will be developed as a 'Riverside Center Business Center'. One feasible way to support the city government program is the development of a floating restaurant. Floating restaurant is just a place to eat, when doing business negotiations or family tours. The concept of floating restaurant development based on ecotourism. Hence, this restaurant is designed environmentally friendly, empowering local people, and become a means of learning and education. The eco-friendly concept is manifested in a flat outward-side asynchronous catamaran form and battery-based electric propulsion systems and solar panels. The menus are provided by local vendors along the river bank of Kalimas so the local food supplier will be more empowered.

Abstract:
Abstract The concept of dementia friendly communities emerged from the ‘age-friendly’ movement that has been supported by the WHO for some time. This recognizes that like most older people, those with dementia desire to remain in their own homes, and their own communities, for as long as possible. But it also recognizes the significant socio-environmental challenges this can present. Transforming attitudes to dementia, supporting family and friend caregivers, and promoting meaningful participation for all in the community are essential to the success of any such movement. This paper draws on a qualitative evaluation of one such programme that has sought to develop innovative dementia friendly spaces through the arts and arts performance. Focusing on the Dukes Theatre in Lancaster, UK and its partner theatres and cinemas, I discuss how these venues have, over a three year period, developed spaces in which both people with dementia and their family carers can continue to meaningfully participate in ordinary everyday activities that can be crucial to maintaining the sense of belonging and partnership that is often lost as the dementia journey progresses. Whilst efforts to implement change at the city and community level are laudable, I suggest that it is perhaps at the micro-scale of individual places that we are most likely to successfully stimulate change.

Since 2006, the Indonesian government published its policy of Children-Friendly City (KLA-Kota Layak Anak) to expedite the effort to protect the children. The implementation of this policy is supported by the government institution, companies, society, and academics. Companies playa significant role in creating Children-Friendly City using the CSR program from, among others, PT. Telkom and XL with the internet from which the children can get information they need, despite its positive and negative impacts on their behavior. This is a descriptive qualitative research using focus group discussion (FGD) and interviews to collect the data. Telkom and XL through CSR exerts both positive and negative impacts. The positive impact is that it is easier for the children to get information they need, while the negative is that the children spend most of their time at the computer accessing information which is inappropriate for their age. It is family, the government, and the companies that have responsibility to guide and supervise the children to use IT safely.

The relevance of this article is confirmed by the fact that modern examples of the formation of a system for organizing children΄s recreation – “state-business-family” are given, the terms “childfriendly city” and “kid-friendly” are analyzed, conveying the idea of creating an infrastructure for recreation for adults with children. In the modern world, a playground and a playroom are not enough for children to have a good rest, so it is important to think over the concepts of the functioning of children΄s clubs and entertainment at the enterprises of the hotel business. Abstract:
A high low energy in buildings is determined in the potential use of materials. Tile material is potentially made by architects as a sustainable building material. The use of tiles was marginalized by ceramic flooring products produced by large industries. The result of studies on the issue of global warming note that the embodied CO2 from the tile floor is almost seven times more than the embodies CO2 tiles. This result shows that tile products are environmentally sound and sustainable compared to tile floors. In another side, Kendari City is a Coastal City, and there are Kampung KB (Family Planning) that much mothers in this village busy every day with searching metti-metti/kalandue (Anadara grandis). During this time, shell kalandue fisherman catches only utilized meat/adductor muscle, while the shell is removed and uses as waste. In order for the tile to be competitive and interesting to be used as the floor of the house, it is necessary to study to create a tandem-based kalandue. This research is intended to create a tandem-based kalandue that used exploration method. The process of analysis is done qualitatively, so it gets the form of a tile. The shape of the tiles is transformed from the parameters to the resulting tandem-based kalandue shell. This study concluded that kalandue sea shells as eco-friendly floor finish material made, as follows: the working tools used were simple and sufficient. The working materials used are quite available and economical. The making process is done quickly and easily.

Mall building is a place where urban communities come together with their specific interest. People go to the mall with their independent needs without any emotional bonding between each other. As a public space, mall is trying to meet the needs of urban communities especially as an entertaining space for the visitors. Go to the mall has become a way of life in urban society, as a destination for the whole family. While on the other hand the existence of many mall building are the traits of sick city, because as a public space, city does not meet the social and environmental objectives anymore. Jakarta has more than 75 building mall, it has exceeded the limit of the population. Mall has become a phenomenon because it has met the lifestyle of urban society but on the other side mall has spent water absorption area. This disagreement about mall building requires a mall that friendly to the environment, so that the green open spaces and water absorption area can be provided or replaced as well. The next discussion is about mall that should build friendly to the environment and its importance to the urban community.

Abstract:
The introduction of the two-child family planning policy in China calls for a study of the response of mothers’ subjective well-being after the birth of a second child. Generally focusing on Western countries, previous studies suggested that a series of factors could influence the response, but insufficient attention has been paid to the relative importance of these factors so far. Based on survey data from mothers of two children in the Xi’an metropolitan area, Shaanxi Province, China, our study indicates that the important factors associated with mothers’ life satisfaction after having a second child were, in general, common to Western countries and China. There were also two factors somewhat unique to China: positive adjustment (i.e., becoming happier) by firstborn children (average age, 6 years old) following a sibling’s birth, predicted enhanced life satisfaction for mothers; additionally, mothers who had both a son and a daughter reported the highest increase in life satisfaction, while mothers who had two sons reported the lowest increase. Socioenvironmental constraints (i.e., parenting pressure and work–family conflict) had a larger association with mothers’ life satisfaction than individual ideational factors (e.g., family orientation and fertility desire). These findings suggest that fertility-friendly policies and convenient family intervention institutions are needed to alleviate potential undesirable consequences and improve maternal life quality following a second childbirth so that the two-child policy can be a success.

Within the Active Living and Well-Being Project (RRP3), funded by the Republic of Slovenia and the European Regional Development Fund Investing in Your Future program, we aim to develop different approaches and prototype solutions to provide ICT solutions for the family in order to connect its members; communicate; promote quality family time, active life, a health-friendly lifestyle and well-being; and integrate various sensor and user-based data sources into a smart city ecosystem platform. A mixed methodology, combined qualitative and quantitative approaches, was selected to conduct the study. An online survey with a structured questionnaire as well as semi-structured interviews were performed. Through the analysis of the results, we tried to establish a family-centered design approach that would be inclusive as much as possible, creating benefits for all generations in order to develop an interactive prototype solution that would allow us to further test and verify different use-case scenarios.

Abstract:
This article provides further study of a family-centred design approach model established in previous studies, which aims to correspond to the limitations and needs of modern families using information and communication technology (ICT) solutions for common activities, communication and organisation of family time. The ambition is to systematically define and design features (functionalities) of a prototype solution that connects family members; provides proper communication; promotes active quality family time, active life, a health-friendly lifestyle and well-being; and uses various sensor- and user-based data sources through a smart city ecosystem platform. The original approach model was applied in designing the MyFamily progressive web application prototype solution as part of the EkoSmart: Active Living and Well-Being Project (RRP3) funded by the Republic of Slovenia and the European Regional Development Fund Investing in Your Future program. Extensive testing of the prototype solution used and the triangulation method used within thematic analysis for user interviews provide new insights and proposals for the change of the family-centred design approach model in the form of distinct developmental goals narrative for each generation to enhance motivation and relevance of content to different generations of users of such digital solutions.

Abstract:
For the past few years, China’s urbanization policy has focused on expanding welfare and affordable housing for rural migrants so as to encourage them to put down roots in the city. The international literature disagrees on the relationship between homeownership and welfare—whether the former is a substitute for or a consequence of the latter. Using multilevel logistic regression on a 2015 nationally representative survey, this paper explores the determinants of housing ownership among China’s rural migrant households in their city of residence, focusing particularly on access to urban social insurance. The results show that institutional ties to the city such as enrollment in local pensions and health insurance are associated with higher likelihood of homeownership. This paper argues that policy interventions should target the social security system, as rural migrants are likely unwilling or unable to invest in urban housing due to the increased risk and precarity they typically experience. The findings also suggest that to make urbanization more sustainable, the government should aim at making cities more family-friendly, expanding alternatives to employment-based social insurance schemes, and targeting efforts on interior cities in migrant-sourcing provinces that pose fewer barriers to permanent settlement.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the indicators of quality in care for people working and living in aged residential care (ARC) settings. Design/methodology/approach This research was conducted using an ethnographic design in two distinct ARC facilities in a New Zealand city, a large facility with residential, dementia and hospital level care, and a small family owned facility providing residential care only. In total, 50 hours of observational data were collected, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 21 people, including managers, careworkers, nurses, family members and residents. These data were thematically analysed using the constant comparative method. Findings The main indicators of quality for staff, family and residents included: a home-like, friendly and safe environment; good medical and personal care; respect for the residents; and good staff. Participants also acknowledged the need for adjustments by residents to living in aged care; and the challenges of caring for increasingly frail residents. Originality/value Findings support the growing recognition of a need for resident-centred approaches to ARC that are reflected in government policy and regulatory apparatus. Managers in ARC facilities must balance adherence with health and safety standards, and providing an environment where their residents can enjoy a meaningful life that has purpose and value.

Abstract:
Early detection and intervention are necessary to prevent deterioration and promote recovery in patients with schizophrenia. Mindlink is the first community-based early intervention center for young people with mental illness in Korea. This service was introduced in 2012 as a national mental health pilot project in Bukgu, Gwangju Metropolitan City. Due to the increase in the number of young clients, a youth-friendly, early intervention center called Mindlink was established in 2016. Mindlink is a comprehensive mental health service provided throughout multidisciplinary collaboration. It provides intensive case management and group programs, including cognitive behavioural therapy, family intervention, psychoeducation, motivational enhancement, and physical health promotion. The Korean government has stated that the Mindlink model is effective and is currently expanding the model to other areas in Korea. An increasing number of young people with distressing mental illnesses and their family members are approaching Mindlink for help. They are seeking early psychiatric intervention despite the stigma associated with mental illnesses. Our experience with the Mindlink model suggests that investing in improving the mental health in youth and in service delivery can overcome the stigma associated with mental illnesses and other barriers to mental health services. There is currently a lack of comprehensive mental health services for youth, which is a major problem. An accessible, youth-friendly, stigma-free, community mental health center, such as Mindlink, allows early detection and management of mental illnesses in young patients. Therefore, developing early intervention centers at the national level is urgently required.

Abstract In recent years, the city of Veszprém was able to obtain several significant achievements concerning its green branding: it was awarded the “Hungary in Bloom” and the “Climate Star” titles together with the “Gold” prize of the Entente Florale Europe award and the special “President’s Award for the Restoration of a Public Open Space”. This case study examines the impact and results of the preparation work and participation in national and an international green branding contests on destination marketing and city image through the analysis of the literature and structured interviews with the theme specialists of the contests. The implications of the research, based on the result of displaying the future vision of Veszprém, offer best practice advice for communities that are considering using green branding tools such as entering a horticultural contest. The results of the research confirm that a potential winning entry, apart from having an attractive cityscape, needs to meet the more novel assessment criteria of these contests as well, i.e. the development of family friendly and accessible infrastructure, multilingual tourist information and digital accessibility.

Abstract- Public spaces hold an important role in a neighborhood or a city. As a communal space, these spaces need to be integrated with the masterplan of the city itself. Unfortunately, architects and city planners often forget that the subject that needs this space type is not only the adults. Children also need space for their growth and development. The early human development or better known as the childhood phase is also very important. Children learning process needs to be contained with good public space design that includes playgrounds and stimulating materials. As a public space, children should also have fun exploring and experiencing interaction or play while enjoying the space itself. A child developmental growth really is affected by the stimulation of their sensory motor, especially their sense of touch and sight. The two things became the focus of this study while observing the adaptation of children within a children public space. In Bandung, one of the most crowded children public space is Taman Lalu Lintas Ade Irma Suryani Nasution. Located in the heart of the city, this park is indeed family friendly and filled with thematic play spaces. In 2017, the park was revitalized by Labo+ Architecture and Design to bring back the vision of the Taman Lalu Lintas Foundation that focuses on the early education for pedestrians and drivers. This public space became an interesting city element that needs to be observed further. The study began with collecting material data in each playground, continued with behavior and preference analysis. Observation is used in the study process, with 30 children age under the age of five as the subject.Children learn by playing. Their learning experience is stimulated by the visual appearance, shape, and also texture of the material used in installed play area. The stimulus of physical environment affects the response of the children while they are interacting with the space itself. This shows in their facial expression. Children experienced a positive outcome while visiting Taman Lalu Lintas Ade Irma Suryani Nasution, making the conclusion that this public space for children was designed successfully and can fill the needs of children to explore and learn about their environment at the same time. Abstract:
Chinese are increasing in number in Laos as new inter-governmental agreements permit labour migration for infrastructure development. Entrepreneurs have been accompanying migrants and establishing their own businesses, alongside the long-standing businesses established over the years by ethnic Chinese in the country. Many industrial sectors are involved. Problems that Chinese entrepreneurs might face include language issues and discrimination, as well as lack of business infrastructure and support services. Additionally, Lao consumers are primarily motivated by price alone and have little interest in exploring new brands or products. While these business management related issues are clear, what is not clear is the impact that conducting business on such a basis has on additional family members, who are also commonly employed within the business. Key informants were Chinese entrepreneurs and their family members in the capital city of Vientiane and they were interviewed personally with a view to understanding what stresses there may be on family members doing business in an environment which is not entirely friendly or welcoming, especially under conditions of global economic crisis. Competition is intensifying as increasing numbers of Thai and Vietnamese entrepreneurs are seeking to establish a foothold in the Lao market. Many Chinese entrepreneurs have, as a result of these changing conditions, been forced to offer better deals for customers, thereby restricting profits. This has had a follow-through effect on family members.

Property developers have provided the concept of a convincing residence which is conducive, clean and safe so that the decision to domicile to live in Satelit city more commodious.

The security of a city influences a person's attitude in determining a place to live. A safe environment will make residents save. Security of family, wealth and place is a necessity that must be fulfilled in order to live a happy life. Moreover, the aspect that influences the attitude of people's domicile decisions is the cleanliness of the city. Cleanliness is related to the elements of health, pollution, and odor, so as the ideal place to live in is a place which is free from all factors that interfere with human health. Many developers organize neatly locations, a human lifestyle based on the rules of the developers, so that cleanliness can be controlled properly. With adequate facilities, residents will stay in Satelit city and not go to big cities. Public facilities will strengthen the attitude of a person to live in a Satelit city if the needs of citizens are fulfilled. The sense of security that is needed for the residents is the security of the neighborhood in which they live in because each person realizes that security is often unexpectedly disturbed. The cleanliness aspect is not an absolute requirement, because the clean and beautiful city is common. Deciding to stay in a place, the public facilities need to be seriously considered, because every person has the pretension to live and settle down.
As a result of the data analysis and discussion on various variables and indicators, the researcher suggests that (a) for domiciles in Satelit city, someone must consider the public facilities available. Many elements become alternatives for them and can ensure that forming a family is more comfortable and saver (b) developers can provide residences accordance with purchasing power and setting security, cleanliness, and facilities as well as those needed by residents. A sense of security, cleanliness and reachable facilities will strengthen a person's decision to choose to live in a certain area.

Abstract:
Motives: The need for sustainable urban development, including an improvement in residents’ quality of life, requires ongoing urban diagnostics. Assessments of multi-family housing estates play a very important role in this process. Population growth influences the expansion of housing estates in limited urban space. The extent to which spatial and functional structures (SFS) in housing developments meet the residents’ current needs should be evaluated. These needs undergo dynamic change and are influenced by economic, socio-cultural, sanitary, and ecological factors. Aim: The main objective of this study was to develop a methodology for assessing SFS solutions in open spaces in multi-family residential estates (MFREs) based on a complete list of SFS indicators, and to determine the potential of GIS tools and selected open data sources for automating this process. GIS was used to represent data. The intermediate goal was to determine differences in the SFS solutions of two MFREs that were built with different technologies and urban layouts in the last 70 years in the city of Olsztyn (Poland). Methods: An empirical study was conducted with the use of qualitative and quantitative methods based on a review of the literature, the results of a resident survey, and an analysis of spatial data in ArcGIS and QGIS software. Results: The residents’ needs for SFS in MFREs were identified. A list of 26 SFS indicators and their values (on a 3-point scale) was developed to assess multi-family housing. The applicability of GIS software and spatial data from the national spatial data infrastructure (NSDI) and other sources was assessed in the process. The research method was tested to reveal differences in SFS solutions in the compared MFREs.

Abstract:
Travelling families are interested in urban tourism due to its cognitive and entertainment aspects. Some expectations of parents travelling with children are the same independent of the accommodation location. The purpose of this article is to examine at what level city hotels offer services and amenities within family tourism, how they meet parents’ expectations and whether they adapt offers to children of different ages. Two measurement tools were used for this study. The first one was the authors’ questionnaire addressed to hotel managers. A total of 88 hotels located in Krakow were selected for the study. The survey contained questions on the offers of hotels related to various services and amenities for families with children, which were assigned to one of three groups (24 items): general child-friendly hotel services and amenities, in-room amenities and restaurant amenities. In the second phase of the study, parents of children aged 0–10 years were asked to assess the degree to which the amenities offered by hotels were important for them during the selection of a hotel. In total, 90 surveys were taken into consideration. The tool was designed to examine the needs of parents who have children of different ages, in regard to selected hotel services and amenities (24 items). As in the case of the surveys for hoteliers, the same three groups were created. The research demonstrates that children’s age is the key factor that should lead to the differentiation of the accommodation offer. However, hoteliers largely perceive children as a homogeneous group. In all studied age categories (6) and amenities groups (3), parents’ expectations were higher than the services and amenities offered. No significant differences regarding the category of the hotel or hotel chain membership have been found. The results of the study may provide valuable guidance to hoteliers who wish to attract families with children to urban tourism and adapt their offer to them, thus realising the principle of inclusiveness. They may be also a significant contribution to the literature on the subject, as most published work concerns holiday hotels rather than city hotels.

Abstract:
Purworejo Village is one of 17 villages in Suruh Subdistrict, Semarang Regency, located between Salatiga City and Boyolali Regency, with an area of 169.52 ha consisting of 101.14 ha of paddy fields, 9.70 ha of dry land and 58.68 ha of non-agricultural land. Agricultural problems faced include: land ownership area of about 0.32 ha/family; the use of chemical/inorganic fertilizers is very high so that agricultural land becomes increasingly “sick”; high use of chemical insecticides; the threat of rat pests; farmers' knowledge is still very limited; and the involvement of farmers in farmer group activities is still very limited. On the other hand, the knowledge of farmer group administrators is also still lacking; and the type of rice produced is of medium quality so that the price is relatively cheap in the market. Due to low productivity, most of the rice yields are still used to meet family needs. Farmers have not been able and do not dare to grow organic rice with premium quality which actually has a higher price in the market. Solutions to agricultural problems are implemented through the Community Partnership Program by Increasing Empowerment and Income of Dompon Farmer Groups through Premium Organic Rice Planting and Owl Breeding (Tyto Alba). Through this PKM activity, there has been a change in the behavior of farmers in the Dompon farmer group to start planting organic crops and breeding owls so that rat pests can be avoided. Members of the Dompon Farmer Group can: 1) learn and apply environmentally friendly integrated agricultural technologies; 2) productivity and production of paddy fields increased; 3) produce premium quality organic rice products; and 4) eradicating rats in a more environmentally friendly way using owls (Tyto alba), which are natural enemies of rats.

Abstract:
Background: Breast milk is irreplaceable for healthy development. In Mexico, by 2019, the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) was low and the use of breastmilk substitutes (BMSs) was high. Objective: The aim of this work was to evaluate the maternal and child characteristics related to breastfeeding (BF) duration and to the introduction of BMSs for residents of Mexico City (CdMX) and an agricultural town in Morelos. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 160 mother–child binomials (0–15 months of age) from the megacity CdMX and the agricultural town. Outcomes: EBF and total breastfeeding (TBF) duration, age of transition to BMSs, and the introduction of complementary feeding (CF) were assessed. Associations with maternal and infant factors were assessed using Cox models. Results: The prevalence of EBF in the joint samples at 5.9 months was 32.6% and 5.8% at 6 months. EBF was favored under the following conditions: living in CdMX, receiving prenatal care, no newborn hospitalization, and breastmilk provided as first food at birth. TBF was prolonged under the following conditions: older mother, female children, rooming-in care during puerperium, receiving BF upon discharge after birth, cohabiting with extended family, and having no siblings. The introduction of BMSs predominated under the following conditions: living in an agricultural town, BMSs given after birth before discharge, younger mother, worker mother, and lack of prenatal care. The early introduction of CF (before the fourth month) was 2% for CdMX and 14% for the agricultural town. Conclusions: The agricultural population had a higher risk of the premature interruption of EBF/TBF and the early introduction of BMSs and CF. Protective factors were family-friendly environments and being born in a baby-friendly hospital.

Abstract:
Objective Inadequate nutrition literacy within families is a barrier for healthy dietary choices and influences chronic disease risk. This pilot study examined the feasibility of providing an in-person nutrition intervention for families at high risk of developing prediabetes or type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk-factors. Methods Eligible families had at least one member with a non-communicable disease (NCD) or metabolic risk factor, fluency in English, willingness to attend all three educational sessions and complete questionnaires as a family unit. Sessions included didactic and experiential activities on food label reading, portion sizing, physical activity and modifiable lifestyle factors to reduce NCD risk. Demographics and fruit and vegetable screeners were collected from all participants at baseline and after completion of sessions. Families participated in focus groups to evaluate the program. Results Twelve families (n=35;17 adults;18 children) were recruited from New York City. Participants self-identified as Asian, Hispanic or Black. Adults had a mean age of 40y, BMI of 32.29kg/m2, household income of $35,000-$49,000y, and 13 of 17 adult participants had college degrees. Children ranged from 1-17y. Based on focus group feedback, three sessions were acceptable, families reported enjoying interactive activities and group learning and requested child-friendly activities. They reported improved knowledge of food labels, strategies for grocery shopping, portion-sizing, and increased awareness of the links between diet quality and NCDs. Conclusions and Implications The study met recruitment goals within 4 months. The educational intervention was acceptable and may be scaled-up for future studies on NCD prevention, particularly prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.

Abstract:
History would tell us categorically that women in the past were relegated to the background. However, the 21st century has changed the lives of women in the workplace arena where they were elevated on an enviable pedestal in leadership, management, education and skills training. This paper focused on describing the workplace challenges, opportunities and insights of women executives in Kidapawan City. Using phenomenological research design, multiple frameworks in data collection (friendly conversations, reflection analysis, and on-line interview) data analysis through story-telling writing helped me drew several themes which established the data's trustworthiness regarding credibility, transferability, dependability and confirmability. With better portrayal on their professional development, the 15 women executives welcome the opportunities traveling the paths, climbing the traditional ladders, and running down their companies, there is one constant at them: they cultivated their success. They have enjoyed opportunities brought about by professional credibility, great sense of responsibility, and most importantly, financial independence. They have faced the challenges in leadership, human behavior, and high expectations, however, family and work-life balance remain the biggest issue that has affected them emotionally. It was through prayers and family support that these women drew strength from. Hence, even if they were judged by society as weak, they continue to inspire the world.
