Abstract:
We investigate the relationship between personal and professional familiarly, team effectiveness, and viability, and how these relationships are mediated by information elaboration in global virtual teams. We further assess whether virtuality moderates the relationships between both types of familiarity and information elaboration. Based on data collected from 63 global virtual supply chain teams, our results suggest that professional familiarity is positively associated with team information elaboration, which in turn relates positively to both manager-rated team effectiveness and team leader–rated viability. Furthermore, team virtuality enhances the influence of personal familiarity on information elaboration, but dampens the relationship between professional familiarity and information elaboration. Our results suggest that professional familiarity is a more salient antecedent of information elaboration in global virtual teams. We discuss the implications of our results for both theory and practice.

Abstract:
Two studies compared the performance of Puerto Rican and African American Head Start children on presumably familiar (description) and unfamiliar (one-word labeling) test tasks. Results indicated that children performed significantly better on the familiar test task, and that the familiar task was more sensitive in differentiating children who were typically developing from those with low language ability. Implications for the use of standardized tests, local norms, and dynamic assessment with culturally/linguistically diverse children are discussed.

Abstract:
Abstract: Hospital image could affect the attitude and behaviour of patients towards the hospital. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between the variables studied and the image of Rumah Sakit Umum GMIM Bethesda (RSUGB). This was a descriptive study with a cross sectional design. The independent variables in this study were familiarity, emotional aspect, service, environment, and finance. The dependent variable was the image of RSUGB. Data were statistically analyzed with the chi square test using the SPSS version 22 computer program. The results showed that most respondents (89.0%) felt that hospital familiarity was good; (68.2%) felt emotional towards a good hospital; (67.9%) felt that the service at the hospital was good; (87.2%) felt that the environment of the hospital was good; and (68.8%) felt that the financial rates at the hospital were good. The chi square test or cross tabulation of the five independent variables on the dependent variable indicated that only the service variable towards hospital image had a p-value < 0.05 (p=0.018). Other variables such as familiarity (p=0.166), emotional aspect (p=0.473), environment (p=0.057), and finance (p=0.200) had p-values >0.05. In conclusion, there is a relationship between service and the image of Rumah Sakit Umum GMIM Bethesda (RSUGB), however, there are no relationships between familiarity, emotional aspect, environment, and finance with the hospital image. Keywords: familiarity; emotional aspect; service; environment; finance; hospital image Abstrak: Citra sebuah rumah sakit berdampak pada sikap dan perilaku pasien terhadap rumah sakit tersebut. Abstract:
This article explores the dramaturgical strategies used to present chosen recital repertoire, initially outlining what lead to the formation of the programme, before discussing elements of musical narrativity and how that can aid in conveying meaning on a deeper level. In addition, the article investigates the importance of utilising novelty in balance with familiarity to entice an audience, whilst keeping an awareness of the drawbacks that each can impose. Finally, the presence of a unifying theme will be discussed with regards to how it can potentially add originality, resulting in a programme that can be simultaneously engaging and informative.

Abstract:
In referenda held in 2003, over 90% of Lithuanians supported joining the European Union (EU), while only two-thirds of Estonians did. Why? This article shows that Lithuanians and Estonians had different economic expectations about the EU. Most Lithuanians hoped that EU membership would help Lithuania overcome its economic backwardness and isolation. By contrast, many Estonians worried that the accession would reinforce Estonia's underdevelopment and dependency on the West. I argue that these expectations reflected the two countries' strategies of economic reform. Lithuania sold state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to their managers and continued to trade heavily with Russia, which slowed down the modernization of its economy. Estonia sold SOEs to foreigners and reoriented its trade rapidly from Russia to the West, which hurt its traditional sectors (particularly agriculture) and infrastructure.

Abstract:
This paper examines the notion of familiarity in live-in elder care settings and how it is challenged, changed, and reestablished. Live-in care is a strategy to prevent disruptions and preserve familiarity in enabling older persons in need of extensive care to stay at home – and thus, to enable ageing in place. This paper problematizes this strategy based on interviews with family caregivers who engaged a migrant live-in care worker in Switzerland. The key argument is that live-in care arrangements constitute an all-embracing form of inserting formal, paid-for care service delivery into the informal, private, intimate space of home. The live-in care arrangement not only challenges the familiarity of the home space, but also seems to ask for strategies of adaptation to familiarize the unfamiliar. Therefore, the introduction of live-in care is consequential for all involved parties and requires largely underestimated efforts to adapt to the new home space.

Abstract:
This article presents a quantitative synthesis of examiner familiarity effects on Caucasian and minority students' test performance. Fourteen controlled studies were coded in terms of methodological quality (high vs. low) and race-ethnicity (Caucasian vs. Black and Hispanic). An analogue to analysis of variance conducted on weighted unbiased effect sizes indicated that examiner familiarity produced a significant effect, with Caucasian and minority examinees' test performance raised by .05 and .72 standard deviations, respectively. Examiner familiarity's differential effect on Caucasian and minority examinees did not interact with the methodological quality of the studies. Nevertheless, limitations of the extant data base require caution in drawing implications for assessment practice.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between students'performance in online reading literacy and Information Communication Technology (ICT) familiarity for junior high school students. The primary data collection instruments were the researcher-designed Taiwan Adolescent Digital Reading Assessment and the PISA 2003 (Programme for International Student Assessment) ICT familiarity questionnaire to illustrate features of online reading literacy, overview of ICT familiarity, and interpretation of ICT familiarly with respect to online reading literacy. A total of 601 8th graders, 317 male and 284 female, participated in this study (N=601). Polytomous Rasch unidimensional IRT was adapted to estimate the scale scores and indicators, and linear regression was used to analyze the interpretation of all indicators toward online reading literacy. The results indicated that the online reading literacy of most students was situated on grade level. 8th graders can retrieve information from single webpage, can retrieve one or more source of information across multiple webpages, and can interpret the location of the information after searching several webpages; they can integrate information from designated webpages or from problem-related webpages; they can evaluate the reliability of data sources. 8th graders have reasonable frequency of computer use, and moderate computer using confidence. There is no significant difference of ICT familiarity between males and females. Among all the variables of ICT familiarity, frequency of using computer at home ranked first for explaining the online reading literacy level (R2=.14). However, frequency of using ICT and confidence did not positively correlate with online reading literacy.

Abstract:
Blogs are known for their information and knowledge sharing capabilities. Several theoretical frameworks have been proposed to study the factors that influence an individual's intention to use blogs for knowledge sharing. However, factors like content familiarity and design familiarity are lacking in the literature. Hence, this paper aims to extend past studies and investigate the influence of familiarity with blogs in knowledge sharing. Particularly, the purpose of this paper is twofold. The first objective is to explore the effect of familiarity in terms of content familiarity and design familiarity on individual intention to use a blog as a knowledge sharing tool. The second objective is to determine whether familiarity factors change with gender, blog experience, and cultural differences. The results show that content familiarity and design familiarity positively influence an individual's knowledge sharing behavior in blogs. In addition, content familiarity and design familiarity differ according to gender, blog experience, and cultural differences.

Abstract:
Although consumers often encounter ads for familiar brands, previous advertising interference studies have used ads for low-familiarity brands. The authors focus on brand familiarity's role in increasing ad memorability and moderating competitive interference. They conducted a factorial experiment varying the familiarity of brands featured in test and competing ads. With differences in ad executions, prior exposure, processing objectives, and exposure time experimentally controlled, subjects displayed substantially better recall of new product information for familiar brands. Their findings suggest that established brands have important advantages in advertising: Consumers should be more likely to recall ad information, and their memory should be less affected by exposure to competitors’ ads. The authors conclude with implications for the marketing of new and mature brands.

The purpose of this study is to explore close friendships and intimacy practices of Malaysian students in the context of living abroad. Some of the new close friends, specifically co-national friends in the UK, are perceived as “family” although some of them have not yet acquired family-like qualities in their relationships. Due to the situation of living abroad, the students acquired the “familiarity as a family” relationship—a new concept introduced in this study to explain this complicated relationship, with co-national friends in the Malaysian community in the UK. A sense of belonging and homophily, and shared physical space and activities are two key factors that influenced these practices of intimacy, which will foreground the discussion in this paper.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to consider the German stock market and develop a method for company valuation that complements the methods used to date. The paper elaborates on the novel construct of functional familiarity, consisting of board size, board fluctuation, diversity management, long-term incentive plans (LTIP) and research and development intensity, in relation to company performance. Company reports of MDAX-listed companies were collected and examined for the years 2013 to 2019. Based on the empirical investigation in the form of regression analyses, the statistically significant influence of the executive board size and board fluctuation, as well as of the LTIP, on the development of the share price could be demonstrated. The results indicate that the evaluation tool of functional familiarity in its current constellation identified three factors that should at least lead to a critical view of the stakeholder.

Abstract:
The relationship between the phenomenology of imagination and the phenomenology of memory is an interestingly complicated one. On the one hand, there seem to be important similarities between the two, and there are even occasions in which we mistake an imagining for a memory or vice versa. On the other hand, there seem to be important differences between the two, and we can typically tell them apart. This paper explores various attempts to delineate a phenomenological marker differentiating imagination and memory, with a special focus on two proposed markers that have generated considerable philosophical discussion: the feeling of pastness and the feeling of familiarity. As we will find, neither of them proves to be up to the task at hand. However, by way of a deeper exploration of the feeling of familiarity, we are able to tease out some important morals for efforts to differentiate imagination and memory on phenomenological grounds and, more generally, for efforts to engage in a descriptive phenomenological enterprise

Abstract:
Familiarity creates its own specific continuum of spiritual life in Ukraine, becomes a notable phenomenon in the field of Ukrainian national revival. With this phrase, we identified a group of related phenomena in the spiritual life of present-day Ukraine, based on the idea of a revival in one form or another of pre-Christian religion, which is considered by the organizers of the Homeland Movement as the authentic worldview of Ukrainians. It is impossible to call each of the currents of native religion a neo-religious denomination, because, first, some of them, by virtue of their belief-conceptions of monotheistic religions, do not accept such an assessment of themselves; and secondly, some of these trends are still not religiously determined, but exist at the level of some educational institutions, they appear in the form of peculiar clubs of interest; Thirdly, a number of them functions in a very limited religious space, consisting only of several communities and a relatively small number of followers.
