Abstract:
In Vinegar Girl, a 2016 fictional adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew, Anne Tyler exhibits an ambivalent treatment of the female predicaments left by William Shakespeare: while she invests her modern version of Katherina with linguistic and intellectual independence emblematic of female resistance to patriarchal disciplines, she somehow acquiesces in the fixed familial place and the stereotypical images of women in the monolithic patriarchal system. When the novel was introduced into the Chinese mainland in 2017, the Chinese publisher, out of commercial concerns, advertised it as a highly feminist text through the delicate manipulation of the translation of its title and a series of paratextual manoeuvres, to the detriment of the novel’s ambiguous complexities of gender issues. The marketing strategies nevertheless backfired on one of China’s social media platforms and rendered the novel a relatively ‘failed’ feminist text against China’s unique market and media background in the last decade.

Abstract:
Feminist critics of Locke perceive a conflict between his promise of political liberty and equality and women's individual and social circumstances. Many feminists point to an incongruence in Locke's thought between formal political rights and the substantive inequalities women experience in a variety of social relationships. Emphasizing Locke's liberal distinction between private and public, these feminists explore how women's actual personal, marital, familial and economic (i.e., private) positions mitigate against the possibility of political emancipation for women. Opposing this interpretation, this article will argue that Locke's feminist critics misread Locke and misinterpret his distinction between private and public. What some feminists represent as a dichotomy between public and private is actually for Locke a multitude of interacting spheres in which individuals live. An examination of these spheres will reveal a latent potential in Locke's philosophy for addressing women's particular circumstances.

Abstract:
One of most arguable and observable social phenomena is gender inequality which is based on feminism thoughts. Considering how literature may portray human’s life along with its values, this study is purposed to elaborate and compare how feminism thoughts and gender inequality take place in various literary works. Based on the importance of feminism thoughts and gender inequality in cross cultural literature, then there is a necessity to conduct a comparative literature study which focused on feminism thoughts. This study took four kinds of literary works, namely drama, prose (short-story), movie, and poetry. Feminism approach as sociological approach was applied in this study altogether with comparative criticism and content analysis method. This study discussed how feminism thoughts got more supports and encouragement as the century progressed. By comparing literary works from 20th and 21st century, several important findings can be drawn, namely (a) feminism thoughts are getting stronger along with the progression of century, (b) feminism thoughts always oppose gender inequality as both are always found as binary oppositions in literary work, (c) both feminism and gender-inequality live through human’s values and repetitive actions, (d) personal and familial values are crucial in order to develop feminism thoughts and gender-inequality in an individual, and (e) the change of values, especially social and cultural values can bring changes in both feminism and gender inequality phenomena.

Abstract:
Women could have played a significant part in the process of Sustainable Development, although they were not given an opportunity to directly involve in this process in different cultures. Their roles are mainly subjected to perform household works, such as caring for children and elderly members. However, these familial responsibilities of women develop a positive attitude and potential skills to maintain sustainable development by preserving natural resources. This paper induces a brief description of the term Sustainable Development. Furthermore, it would suggest an environmentally sound model for achieving the objectives of sustainable development by incorporating eco-feminist ideas as its fundamental elements. Eco-feminism highlights the inter-connectedness of women with the environment and it claims that women’s active participation is globally required nowadays for achieving sustainability.

Abstract:
AbstractOver the past thirty years Lacanian psychoanalysis, by mapping psychoanalytic concepts onto the terminology of modern linguistics has seemed to radically alter the former, and to a large extent has done so. However, Lacan's insistence that we are formed by, and enmeshed in, language, occults an opposite truth; one that is evidenced by the history of politics and of art, and although psychoanalysis has traditionally remained rigidly apolitical, concentrating on the private and familial rather than the public sphere, it can hardly avoid, even in this sphere, a confrontation with the politics of feminism. Because of its particular appropriation of ‘word’ and ‘language’, Lacanian psychoanalysis finds itself in a contraditory position here. In the private sphere it liberates the little girl by the true ‘word’, while continuing to maintain, in the wider world of language, a now archaic discourse which subsumes both discourses into one, masculine one.

Abstract:
The current American familial structure consists of a mother who serves as the housewife anda father who serves as the breadwinner. Although American society is breaking away fromthis norm, the nuclear family structure is still idealized, causing women to struggle against thepatriarchal confnes of this structure as they choose to remain single, enter the workforce, andrefuse to reproduce. Ursula K. Le Guin’s The Dispossessed utilizes the utopia genre to explore afctional planet, Anarres, that values collectivism over individualism in an attempt to become trulyegalitarian. This essay analyzes the egalitarian structure of Anarres through the experiences ofthe main character, Shevek, and uses it to examine the anti-feminist issues of the current familialstructure of America.

Counseling research on female youth of color has been limited in the application of theoretical frameworks that engage families in a practical sense regarding career issues. In this direct content analysis, 40 female middle school students of color shared perceptions of their strengths and supports for future career success. Relational cultural theory, a framework grounded in multiculturalism and feminism, was shown to be a fitting and promising theory-to-practice model for those working with female adolescents of color and their families. Implications for counselors working with female youth of color and families on career exploration are provided.

Abstract:
Directed by Harry Bradbeer, Enola Holmes (2020) portrays a 16-year-old girl who searches for her mother who disappeared while fighting for women’s rights to vote. In this movie, Victorian women are bound by a law that forbids them from having the right to vote. This article aims to identify and describe women’s rebellion in their struggle for voices in the Victorian era. Employing Bartlett's rebellious feminism within a feminist perspective of John Stuart Mill, the article analyses how Eudoria Holmes, a female character, undergoes dangerous ways in attempt to fight for women's rights to vote. Using the script and cinematographical elements, the film analysis reveals that Eudoria Holmes rebels against the values of Victorian society on three levels: individual, familial, and societal. Becoming an independent and courageous mother, she plants the seeds of rebellion to her daughter, Enola Holmes. Moreover, Eudoria also establishes a secretive women’s circle to build solidarity with the purposes of social and political activism in the form of women's suffrage campaigns.

Abstract:
Man has always tried to determine and tamper the image of woman and especially her identity is manipulated and orchestrated. Whenever a woman is spoken of, it is always in the relation to man; she is presented as a wife , mother, daughter and even as a lover but never as a woman a human being- a separate entity. Her entire life is idealized and her fundamental rights and especially her behaviour is engineered by the adherents of patriarchal society. Commenting on the Man-woman relationship in a marital bond Simone de Beauvoir wrote in her epoch-making book entitled The Second Sex(1949): "It has been said that marriage diminishes man, which is often true , but almost always it annihilates women". Feminist movement advocates the equal rights and equal opportunities for women. The true spirit of feminism is into look at women and men as human beings. There should not be gender bias or discrimination in familial and social life. To secure gender justice and gender equity is the key aspects of feminist movement. In India, women writers have come forward to voice their feminist approach to life and the patriarchal family set up. They believe that the very notion of gender is not only biotic and biologic episode but it has a social construction.

Abstract:
In 1791, a few miles below the town of Litchfield, Connecticut, in the parish of South Farms, the twenty-six-year-old wife of the Congregational minister died. Little is known about her apart from her familial relations to three Connecticut clergymen: she was the granddaughter of the great Joseph Bellamy of nearby Bethlehem, the daughter of the celebrated Levi Hart of Preston, and, for the last three years of her life, the wife of an obscure Calvinist named Amos Chase. Apart from these details we have only her eulogy, preached by her bereaved husband at South Farms on March 6, 1791, and published the following year at Litchfield. The text of the sermon was from Proverbs 9:14: “Houses and riches are the inheritance of fathers; and a prudent wife is from the Lord.”

Abstract:
This thesis analyses feminist work in the French institution Planned Parenthood(Planning familial) : it examines the mechanisms and stakes of the professionalization of thishistorical and central NGO which belongs to the women's advocacy space. "Planningfamilial" contributes to the implementation of public policies in the areas of sexuality andgender equality. At the intersection of the sociology of activism, work and professions, andpublic policies, this thesis goes against the usual opposition between professionalization andpoliticization processes, and shows how institutionalization and professionalization processeswithin an activist organization can in fact foster a dynamic of politicization.Based on a socio-historical and ethnographic investigation and a questionnaire survey, this thesis analyses processes of politicization of work and at work. It studies the relationshipsbetween the state and activist organizations, beyond the opposition between integration andconflict. It shows that, during the early times of the “Planning familial”, professionalizationwas a political strategy and the use of wage-earning was an essential political resource tomaintain and develop activism. More generally speaking, the thesis shows that individualprocesses of politicization that take place in activist organizations depend, on the one hand, onprofessionalization mechanisms that are specific to a local context and, on the other hand, onthe social, economic and demographic characteristics of feminist workers. In the end, thisthesis demonstrates that the institutionalization of the “Planning familial” is not a linearprocess. This study also sheds light on the complex way in which public policies regardingsexuality and gender equality are interpreted by “Planning familial” employees and shapedthrough their implementation. In sum, this thesis offers a bottom-up approapproach to “state feminism” by studying theeffects of public policies towards women on feminist organizations and, conversely, theimpact that feminist organizations have on public policies, that is, how these policies arereceived and how they translate into organizational activities

As mães desempenharam importante função.
In which ways female adolescents that witness violences perpetrated against their mothers in their daily lives understand the various manifestations of violences and are affected by them? This research question mobilized our interest in doing a qualitative study, based on a gender and feminist perspective, with female adolescents that witness and are victims of violences in their family environment. Two adolescents and their mothers participated in the research. The mothers played an important role in the process. Their own testemony was essencial to complement the information provided by their daughters. They offered their perspective regarding their daughters experiences in witnnessing violences. Data was collected through semistructured interviews with the adolescents. The adolescents also filled out a demographic questionnaire. After data collection, the data was transcribed and submited to a content analysis. The results were organized in three categories: 1) Life history and violences; 2) Adolescents perspectives on gender, violence and relationship; 3) Impacts of the exposure to violences in the daily lives of the adolescents. The dissertation was written in the format of four articles. Two of them are theoretical and the final two are empirical and present the results of the research. All articles were developed with the purpose of valuing the interactions between mental health, gender and violence(s). The challenges of living in a family environment marked by the presence of violence is highlighted in the four articles that make up the dissertation. Our interest was to understand how violence impacts on the lives and health, especially the mental health, of female adolescents.

Realizamos a pesquisa qualitativa entrevistando seis mulheres selecionadas aleatoriamente deste universo.

Abstract:
Through an analysis of selected representative poems from Ingrid de Kok’s Familiar Ground, this article examines the role played by feminist poetry in the quest to address gender-related issues as well as to contribute constructively to South Africa’s liberation from patriarchal apartheid. The article further argues that feminist writers desire to (re)negotiate the space within which they can (re)construct and articulate their identities as women and mothers, and that in such a context the politics of identity cannot be detached from other aspects within the struggle for socio-political and economic emancipation. Thus characteristics of apartheid oppression are contrasted with the patriarchal domination opposed by feminist writers.

This study aims to analyze the dissatisfaction of women victims of domestic and family violence with the strategy used by most of the feminist movement, evidenced in the Law|Maria da Penha|, to use the criminal law and its retributive model, as a tool anti-discrimination and gender-based violence, and to identify restorative justice as an alternative to supply better the expectations and needs of women. For this purpose, a field research in the Domestic and Family Violence against Women Court in Aracaju County (SE), which were heard 191 (one hundred and ninety-one) victims in criminal proceedings in that court from September to November 2013, confirming the dissatisfaction of women with the answer given by the traditional model and their desire of a discursive criminal justice, characteristic of restorative model. Initially, the issue of gender violence is approached, an issue that has gained greater importance in Brazil, especially from the 80´s with the work of feminist groups and, more recently, with the advent of Law No. 11.340/2006. After, indicate that the mentioned law made a clear option for retributive model of criminal justice, given an existing trend in several countries in Europe and Latin America, pointing the criticisms of this model in conflict resolution involving gender violence. Afterwards, foments the analysis and discussion of the data collected and the field research conducted and previously mentioned. Further mentioned. Further continues with an analysis of restorative justice as a new way of looking at crime and justice, relating this criminal justice model with the discursive theory developed by the German philosopher Jürgen Habermas, in addition to exposing the concept, objectives, principles and values, pointing also the main differences between the new and the traditional model. Follows pointing out objections and advantages of the use of restorative justice in conflict resolution involving domestic violence against women. Finally, points restorative justice as an option that should be made available to women victims of domestic violence, because It is a model of justice that serves more adequately to women´s concerns, while respecting their autonomy and dignity, also opening the prospect of real change of men and women behavior on issues involving gender violence.

Abstract:
Twenty-two African American lesbians were interviewed in order to identify and examine the intersection of individual and family processes that African American lesbian couples engage in as a family with members of their families of origin. A qualitative research design based on grounded theory methods was used. Data were interpreted using an integrative framework of postmodern feminism, Black feminism, and symbolic interactionism. Findings revealed three major themes: a) Black lesbian couples go through a coming out process as a couple and as individuals, at times, simultaneously; b) Black lesbian families establish and enforce boundaries to protect their intentional, co-created families, and this boundary definition shapes lesbian family identity, and c) resources accessible from informal social supports by African American lesbian families are different from the types of social support and resources available to Black lesbian individuals. These findings provide valuable insights into lesbian family processes that can assist family studies, feminist scholars, family therapists, and community practitioners in identifying future research directions and clinical practices appropriate for African American lesbian families.

Abstract:
AbstractSurrogacy is prohibited by law in Italy but it is increasingly undergone abroad by Italian aspiring parents. Although the majority of couples resorting to surrogacy internationally are heterosexuals, the surrogacy debate in Italy intertwines with discussions on homo-parenting and the problem of children born through surrogacy abroad, remaining in a legal limbo once they arrive in Italy. Since 2015, Italian feminists, led by the feminist group Senonoraquando-Libere (Snoq-L), in alliance with French feminists, have mobilized for the universal ban of surrogacy and the enforcement of surrogacy national prohibition, along with saying no to attempts of legalization promoted by same-sex families and civil rights organizations. Italian feminists are engaging in a battle that presently, and until surrogacy will be prohibited by law, does not closely pertain to the exploitation or commodification of women in the country, but to the commodification of women in other countries of the world, and more broadly to the theoretical notion of “the woman”. Although there are other feminists who do not agree with the abolitionist demand, this case study does not identify a structured regulatory or pro-surrogacy feminist front.

Abstract:

Introdução: Embora aparentem inofensivos, a automedicação e o uso indevido de antibióticos causam sérios problemas à saúde pública, podendo ocultar e agravar diferentes doenças.

Abstract:

Abstract:
When Paul Rudolph was commissioned to design a new university campus for East Pakistan in the mid-1960s, the project was among the first to introduce the expressionist brutalist lexicon of late-modernism into the changing architectural language of postcolonial South and Southeast Asia. Beyond the formal and tectonic ruptures with established colonial-modern norms that these designs represented, they also introduced equally radical challenges to established patterns of domestic space-use. Principles of open-planning and functional zoning employed by Rudolf in the design of academic staff accommodation, for example, evidently reflected a socially progressive approach – in light of the contemporary civil rights movement back in America – to the accommodation of domestic servants within the household of the modern nuclear family. As subsequent residents would recount, however, these same planning principles could have very different and even opposite implications for the privacy and sense of security of Bangladeshi academics and their families. The paper explores and interprets the post-occupancy experience of living in such novel ‘ultra-modern’ patterns of a new domesticity in postcolonial Bangladesh, and their reception and adaptation into the evolving norms of everyday residential development over the decades since. Specifically, it examines the reception of and responses to these radically new residential patterns by female members of the evolving modern Bengali Muslim middle class who were becoming progressively more liberal in their outlook and lifestyles, whilst retaining consciousness and respect for the abiding significance in their personal and family lives of traditional cultural practices and religious affinities. Drawing from the case material and methods of an on-going PhD study, the paper will offer a contrapuntal analysis of architectural and ethnological evidence of how the modern Bengali woman negotiates, adapts to and calibrates these received architectural patterns of domesticity whilst simultaneously crafting a reembraced cultural concept of femininity, in a fluid dialogical process of refashioning both space and self.

Abstract:

Full text
Abstract:
This rapid review synthesises evidence on the role of gender in serious and organised/transnational crime (SOC) with regard to gender norms, participation and prevention. It looks at the literature on the roles women play in organised crime groups and their pathways to participation, the impact of cultural gender norms in different forms of participation for men and women in SOC, and the role of gender dynamics within families or communities in preventing SOC. Key Overall Findings linking gender norms, female participation and prevention of SOC: 1). Gender norms and women’s participation in SOC are varied and highly contextual, highlighting the importance of gender analysis to programming; 2). Gendered perceptions of men as perpetrators and women as victims in SOC undermine effective responses; and 3). Some types of masculine identity have been linked to involvement in violent crime and societal tolerance of organised crime groups. In Italy, some feminists characterise opposition to SOC as an anti-patriarchal struggle.
