Abstract:
Ray Bradbury explores in his dystopian novel Fahrenheit 451 (henceforth F451), the destructive side of technology and totalitarianism, which can deny individuals of their basic rights. This article gives a critical, contextual analysis of F451(1953) by Ray Bradbury. It investigates the dystopian elements to show how an authoritarian government projected in the novel that blocks mind and awareness. The protagonist of the novel is Guy Montag who takes a key role in revealing the tyrannical system and the potential consequences of disobedience. This article examines the manipulation and control of the state and its ill use of technology and its banning of books to shackle knowledge and mind. However, this article aims to show the effect of autobiographical elements, McCarthyism's censorship and the fear of communism during the postwar era and their effects on writing the novel. It also shows how in this dystopian world, an oppressive government is not successful in controlling all citizens. There are opposing characters whose consciousness is awakened and they are successful to show the failure of the system although they are becoming lonely outsiders by that system. The literature review has paved the way by providing the theoretical basis for the analysis of the novel. Thus, this short study sheds the light on how the totalitarian state affects Montag’s change, but it is demonstrating the dystopian world of the novel.

Abstract:
Gardens on Fire. Abstract: In this paper we propose a reconsideration of one of the most popular and discussed dystopian stories since the mid-20th century, Fahrenheit 451, by the American writer and essayist Ray Bradbury. Although this novel attracted the attention of political and social thought since its publication, we think that it has been largely simplified. Unlike some critics, we do not consider that Bradbury's political fable, like many other dystopias, fosters a lack of historical perspective or an insufficient understanding of the present. If Bradbury's political and cultural vision is open to criticism, it is not only for his evasion of history, but rather for an overly optimistic historical vision. We also make clear that Bradbury was not a humanist enemy of mass culture and technology. A close reading of his novel and numerous supplementary material (other writings, interviews and documents) make us to elucidate why his story about the bleak future of industrial society also contains elements to envisage an alternative future. Thanks to this examination we will conclude that, in the case of Bradbury, science-fiction does not serve just to foretell an undesirable future, but it significantly helps to keep alive and to transform traditions with which to manufacture a desirable future. Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The study aims to compare translation of colour terms, zoonyms and lacunae from R. Bradbury’s novel “Fahrenheit 451” as interpreted by T. N. Shinkar and V. T. Babenko. Scientific novelty of the research lies in studying and carrying out a comparative analysis of the methods used for translation of colour terms, zoonyms and lacunae, which make up the linguistic worldview of the novel, in interpretations by T. N. Shinkar and V. T. Babenko, taking into account different generations, the translators’ experience, technological advancements. This is the first time that R. Bradbury’s novel “Fahrenheit 451” is studied in such an aspect. The results of the study have shown that V. T. Babenko’s version of translation is the closest to the original, he has managed to convey the message and emotional sentiment of the work more effectively. The analysis of the translations helped the researchers to identify the ideas refracted through the lens of the author’s perception.

Abstract:
Heterotopia is an idea as put forward by Michel Foucault, from the notion of place and non-place as disruptive elements. This article explores the fascination with Foucault's brief and sketchy idea of heterotopia in the context of cinema. We examine how the elements of heterotopias are most productively understood through the narrative of popular cinema as quintessential traits of film industry across the globe. Films like Caparhnaum, Fahrenheit 451, Interstellar, Stalker (1979), Avatar, Gulabo Sitabo(Hindi) and many more are examples of heterotopic films. These films stimulated utopian as well as dystopian affects in their audiences. The notion of heterotopia has been extensively deployed in media studies. In this paper, we discuss Caparhnaum and Fahrenheit 451 as a richly heterotopic films in which cinema worked with spaces within spaces. Using the heterotopic dichotomy the authors examine filmmaking as it reconstructs the simulated spaces. The authors also want to underscore, in cinema, what the space consists of, who occupies it, and in what ways.

The article aims to reflect on the role of the myth in science fiction narrative, namely on the specific forms it may take in utopian/dystopian fiction, such as Fahrenheit 451 (1953) by Ray Bradbury. The personal development of the main character, Guy Montag, constitutes the focus of this analysis, by which we aim to shed some light on the relation between the meaning of the novel and the Promethean features he evinces in the context of a dystropian novel. The symbolic power of fire and of books is also of core relevance to this study, not only because the highlight the hero's inheritance of the Promethean myth, but also because the provide a deeper insight into exegetic possibilities of dystopsian fiction

Abstract:

Abstract:
Introduction. The study focuses on the analysis of lexico-semantic and stylistic means of oppositions’ verbalization in Ray Bradbury’s texts.Purpose. The aim of this paper is to examine the basic views of scholars on the linguistic means of expressing oppositions and illustrate them with examples from Ray Bradbury’s novel“Fahrenheit 451”.Methods. The paper applied the methods of stylistic analysis, semantic and contextual analysis.Results. Systemic relation in language representing oppositions of different kinds have been studied by many scholars in different genres of texts but fiction. In Ray Bradbury’s science fiction novel “Fahrenheit 451” opposition relations are created with the help of such lexical means as synonymy, antonymy on the levels of separate words, lexical and semantic groups and lexical and thematic fields. The study of lexico-semantic and stylistic means of opposiitons’verbalization approved that among the dominant means there are antithesis, metaphor and metonymy as stylistic means to represent the conceptual opposition “HUMAN BEING – TECHNOLOGY” which is one of the crucial in creating the unique idiostyle of the writer.Conclusions. Oppositions on the lexico-semantic level are verbalized through the synonymic and antonymic relations of the separate words, lexical and semantic groups, lexical and thematic fields. The stylistic means manifesting the oppositions in the Ray Bradbury’s woks are antithesis to show the contrast; metaphor and metonymy to create opposition on the basis of common characteristics. The further research will be aimed at the in-depth analysis of the verbalization means of the conceptual opposition “HUMAN BEING – TECHNOLOGY” in Ray Bradbury’s works for classifying the peculiarities of the writer’s idiostyle.

Abstract:
The Mountain State Centers for Independent Living states the Self- image is how one perceives oneself. The existence of Self- image is twisted and devoid of human feelings in Bradbury’s future-narrated Post literature universe. It is several numbers of self-impressions that develop over time that creates positive and concurrently unfavourable impacts. In the realm of psychology, Self-image is a pivotal factor in leading a fortunate life. An individual’s impression of himself forms the collective depiction of his strength and weakness. It is quintessential to talk about and compare the Self-image that Bradbury’s era had lived because self-image comprises not only one’s perception but also the intervention of the culture in which they lived. He lived in a timeline with World wars, Nazi book-burning, Stalin’s Great Purge, Nuclear warfare, and the technological development of radio and television. Bradbury found that these elements be disrupting the Self of an individual. This same connection can also be seen developing in the novel, where the government brainwashes the characters and makes them live a pre-programmed life. The interactions between the individuals are artificial and rare; they do not share any sense of feelings or the need to communicate. This diminishing effect of life is the disintegration of Self-image in the novel.

Abstract:
The interaction of multi-aspect and multi-level features as well as their relationshas been the subject of a number of studies in the field of quantitative linguistics. However, these studies were conducted mainly on language material. It is interesting to apply a similar analysis aimed at establishing the ratio of the parameters characterizing one of the linguistic levels to the speech. For example, this article discusses the phonetic features of the verbs used in the novel «Fahrenheit 451» by Ray Bradbury. Each of the verbs is assigned a number of phonetic characteristics (syllabic, accent, phonological ones). The relations of the declared parameters at the phonetic level are revealed due to the application of statistical methods, viz. Cole’scorrelation coefficient and Jaccard’ssimilarity coefficient. The obtained data are compared with the corresponding parameters of high-frequency verbal vocabulary. As a result, it is noted that the verbs appearing in the novel, have their own characteristics in the space of phonetic features and it also shows their level of similarity with highfrequency lexical units in connection with the ratio of phonetic characteristics.

Abstract:
Surveying the American scene in 1958, Aldous Huxley recorded his dismay over the speed with which Brave New World was becoming realized in contemporary developments: “The nightmare of total organization, which I had situated in the seventh century After Ford, has emerged from the safe, remote future and is now awaiting us, just around the next corner.” Having struck a keynote of urgency Huxley then lines up a series of oppositions between limited disorder, individuality and freedom on the one hand, and order, automatism and subjection on the other in order to express his liberal anxieties that political and social organization might hypertrophy. Huxley sums up an abiding fear which runs through American dystopian fiction of the 1950s that individuals will lose their identity and become the two-dimensional stereotypes indicated in two catch-phrases of the period: the “organization man” and the “man in the grey flannel suit. ” William H. Whyte's 1956 study diagnoses the demise of the Protestant ethic in American life and its replacement by a corporate one which privileges “belongingness. ” The result might be, he warns, not a world controlled by self-evident enemies familiar from Nineteen Eighty-Four, but an antiseptic regime presided over by a “mild-looking group of therapists who, like the Grand Inquisitor, would be doing what they did to help you.”

Abstract:

Abstract:
This article is devoted to identification of the image-metaphor semantic field in R. Bradbury’s anti-utopian novel «Fahrenheit 451». The reserch applies cluster analysis aimed at the classification of multi-level features that are identi- fied by qualitative methods within the framework of a single classification scheme. Firstly, we distinguished a list of semantic features, organized within five semantic plans: «categorical» (substantive, verbal, adverbial, adjective features), «anthropological» (anthropo-somatic, anthropo-mental features), «social» (socio-personal, socio-non-personal features), «naturalistic» (natural-biogenic, natural-abiogenic features) and «ontological» (onto-material, onto-non-material features). These semantic features are independently defined according to the di- rect and figurative subject of image-metaphors. Then, with the help of the cluster analysis, we are able to group all the previously identified semantic features into clusters and select the corresponding typical metaphors
