Abstract:
This article presents the history of zinc, its production and demand. The quantity of zinc production, both primary zinc from ores and concentrates, and secondary zinc from scrap and zinc-rich waste, was discussed. A comprehensive economic analysis covers zinc prices in the years 1960–2021. The basic methods of obtaining zinc from ores, including pyrometallurgical (Imperial Smelting Process ISP, Kivcet, Ausmelt) and hydrometallurgical (roasting–leaching–electrowinning RLE, atmospheric direct leaching ADL, Engitec Zinc Extraction EZINEX, zinc pressure leach) and their short characteristics, are presented. The global zinc market and the main areas of its application were analyzed. Technologies used for the recovery of zinc from scrap are discussed along with their characteristics. Galvanized steel is the main source of secondary zinc, both in the galvanizing process and in the remelting of galvanized steel. It can be easily recycled with other scrap steel in the electric arc furnace (EAF) for steel production. Currently, with high volatility in the price of zinc, as well as its natural resources in the earth’s crust, recycling is an important activity, despite the fact that zinc concentrates have a relatively constant chemical composition, while the resulting zinc waste contains zinc in varying amounts.

Abstract:
This paper studies the documentation of endangered dialect of the Igbo language: Issues of greetings in Enugwu Ezike dialect. The objectives of the study are to identify different types of greetings in Enugwu Ezike, examine the extent to which other dialects, standard Igbo or English language are preferred in greetings in Enugwu Ezike and also to proffer measures through which the greeting patterns can be revitalised. The data for the study were gathered through introspection and unstructured oral interview. Using descriptive method of data analysis, the study discovers different types of greetings in Enugwu Ezike dialect ranging from daily greetings, greetings to the sick, farewell greetings, seasonal/ periodic greetings, eulogy/praise greetings etc. The study also discovers that many speakers of Enugwu Ezike dialect especially the younger generation prefer the greeting patterns of other dialects and languages. In order to avert this ugly phenomenon, the study suggests measures towards reviving this aspect of the dialect which are through documentation, awareness-raising through programs on radio and television stations, involving the young people via social media and the loyalty of the speakers towards their dialect. The study therefore recommends that researchers from Enugwu Ezike extraction should endeavour to work on other aspects of Enugwu Ezike dialect that is under threat of endangerment or outright extinction.

Abstract:
The B'ezier simplex fitting is a novel data modeling technique which utilizes geometric structures of data to approximate the Pareto set of multi-objective optimization problems. There are two fitting methods based on different sampling strategies. The inductive skeleton fitting employs a stratified subsampling from skeletons of a simplex, whereas the all-at-once fitting uses a non-stratified sampling which treats a simplex as a single object. In this paper, we analyze the asymptotic risks of those B'ezier simplex fitting methods and derive the optimal subsample ratio for the inductive skeleton fitting. It is shown that the inductive skeleton fitting with the optimal ratio has a smaller risk when the degree of a B'ezier simplex is less than three. Those results are verified numerically under small to moderate sample sizes. In addition, we provide two complementary applications of our theory: a generalized location problem and a multi-objective hyper-parameter tuning of the group lasso. The former can be represented by a B'ezier simplex of degree two where the inductive skeleton fitting outperforms. The latter can be represented by a B'ezier simplex of degree three where the all-at-once fitting gets an advantage.

Abstract:
Shovel, spade or side rudder? A special find from Ezinge. In 1933, excavations in the terp of Ezinge (province of Groningen) uncovered an object made out of oak in a house dating from the beginning of the 5th century BC. The object was recorded as a wooden shovel. Its asymmetrical shape, in combination with its lack of handle and its perforated shaft, however, suggest that it may not be a shovel (or a spade), although the possibility cannot be ruled out altogether. The shape of the object seems suitable for use as a side rudder, used to steer a long, dugout canoe powered by multiple paddlers. The earliest side rudders reported in the literature from northwestern Europe are from the late Roman period in southern Scandinavia. If the object could be proven to be a side rudder, it would be a rare find. It would also be one of a very small number of finds that can be associated with boats in the maritime landscape where Ezinge was situated. We recommend experimental research to better understand the use of dugout canoes and side rudders, and to reassess similar objects that have been recorded as shovels or spades.

AbstractThis paper presents methods to compute integrals of the Jacobi polynomials by the representation in terms of the Bernstein — B´ezier basis. We do this because the integration of the Bernstein — B´ezier form simply corresponds to applying the de Casteljau algorithm in an easy way. Formulas for the definite integral of the weighted Bernstein polynomials are also presented. Bases transformations are used. In this paper, the methods of integration enable us to gain from the properties of the Jacobi and Bernstein bases.

Abstract:
Ezine cheese is a nonstarter and long-ripened cheese produced in the Mount of Ida region of Çanakkale, Turkey, with a protected designation of origin (PDO) status. The nonstarter fermented foods serve as sources for the isolation of novel strains. The present study aimed to report the novelty of the bacteriocinogenicEnterococcus lactisPMD74 strain and thein vitroassessment of its potential as a probiotic candidate. Additionally, the present study aimed to describe the technological and safety-related properties of the aforementioned strain. The strain exhibited high viability at pH 3.0, in the presence of pepsin, pancreatin, and bile salts (0.3% and 0.5%), and considerable survival passage through the stimulated digestion tests. The strain PMD74 exhibited substantial autoaggregative (41%) and coaggregative properties, which increased as a function of time. The highest coaggregation percentage was obtained withSalmonella entericaserotype Typhimurium SL1344 (23%), followed byStaphylococcus aureusATCC 6538 (10.3%) andEscherichia coliATCC 26922 (7.4%), respectively. The strain PMD74 was able to inhibit the growth of a number of Gram-positive bacteria, includingListeria monocytogenes,Lactobacillus sake,Staphylococcus aureus, andE. faecalis. The antimicrobial activity of the proteinaceous compound was calculated as 6400 AU·mL−1by the critical dilution method againstE. faecalisATTC 29212.γ-Hemolytic PMD74 was observed to be sensitive to vancomycin, ampicillin, penicillin, gentamicin, tetracycline, chloramphenicol, and tylosin. Among the four genes tested,E. lactisPMD74 was observed to be positive for three virulence determinants, ace, sprE, andgelE, and negative foresp. The amino acid decarboxylase activities were detected negative for histidine, tyrosine, and ornithine.E. lactisPMD74 was classified as a low acidifier, which suggested its possible role as an adjunct culture.E. lactisPMD74 exhibited considerable survival ability (8.86 log CFU·mL−1) in the acidic condition of fermented milk for a four-week-long storage period.

Abstract:
Enterococcus lactis PMD74 is a novel strain with a notably high antimicrobial activity. The present study evaluated the anti-listerial effect of a bacteriocin-like peptide (BLIP) produced by E. lactis PMD74 isolated from Ezine cheese (PDO). The strain was screened for its antimicrobial activity against 22 indicator strains using both agar spot and well diffusion methods. We observed that the neutralized cell-free supernatant (CFS) of E. lactis PMD74 exhibited varying levels of antimicrobial activity against both closely and distantly related pathogenic strains, with the highest activity displayed against Listeria monocytogenes strains. Although thermostable and resistant to lysozyme treatment, BLIP could be completely inactivated by trypsin, proteinase K, and α-chymotrypsin treatments. BLIP production starts in the early exponential growth phase of E. lactis PMD74 (3 h incubation, 400 AU mL–1) and reaches its maximal production (6400 AU mL–1) at the end of the exponential growth phase. Moreover, it is stable in the pH range of 2.0 to 7.0. The treatment of cultures of L. monocytogenes ATCC 7644 and Escherichia coli ATCC 26922 with sterilized CFS exhibited bactericidal and bacteriostatic effects, respectively. Furthermore, co-inoculation of L. monocytogenes ATCC 7644 and E. lactis PMD74 in skim milk led to complete loss of viability of L. monocytogenes ATCC 7644. These findings suggest that BLIP produced by E. lactis PMD74 could serve as a promising food preservative agent owing to its bactericidal and bacteriostatic properties.

Abstract:
AbstractThe study considers the economics of the oil palm (Elaeis guinensis) to rural farmers in a rural community in south-eastern Nigeria. It compares the economic benefits of all products of the oil palm industry – palm oil, palm kernel, timber, palm wine and brooms. It posits that the most important product of the oil palm to the Enugu Ezike farmer is oil palm wine. This contrasts with the view that holds palm oil and palm kernel as the chief products of the oil palm. In a study conducted in Enugu Ezike, findings reveal that annual revenue from palm wine surpasses the six-yearly income from palm oil, palm kernel and brooms together. The study employs an eclectic framework of data collection, involving oral interviews, focus group discussions, participant observation, and the use of secondary sources. The oil palm is by every standard the most economically important tree crop and proceeds from it have positively influenced the socio-economic life of the rural communities, and as a result it has improved their living conditions.

Abstract:
The archaeology of rural settlements is a comparatively new branch of history. Its genealogy is easy to trace. Spurred on by the growth of economic and social history in the inter-war years, Dutch archaeologists, like A.E. van Giffin, and younger Danish archaeologists, such as Gunther Hatt and Axel Steensburg, undertook large open-area excavations of North Sea Migration period settlements. Van Giffin's excavation of the terp at Ezinge during the ‘thirties is a typical example. Using open-area excavation, a controlled form of the clearance excavation being employed on the large classical sites in Mussolini's Italy, it became feasible to examine the Migration-period architecture (as an architectural historian might) and the evolution of the settlement (as a classical topographer might do it). Neither would have been possible if a site such as Ezinge had been trenched. As far as we can tell today, van Giffin et al. did not intend to rewrite history, so much as to use archaeology to confirm prevailing ethnically-oriented theses about Migration period peoples. In some ways this was also the case when W.G. Hoskins and Maurice Beresford began to undertake small excavations of deserted medieval villages in England in 1947. Both hoped that small excavation trenches might help them to date the desertion of some of these settlements. In practice, of course, what they discovered in the course of nineteen excavations merely proved to be confusing (cf. Hurst, 1971: 83). Hoskins turned to other matters, but Beresford pursued the possibilities of archaeology at Wharram Percy, a fine example of a so-called deserted medieval village.

Abstract:
AbstractThis paper presents new geological data from two terp excavations at Englum and Ezinge, in the Dutch province of Groningen, and compares them to similar data from the western part of Friesland, in particular from the terp of Wijnaldum-Tjitsma. This terp is situated at a salt marsh ridge of the same height and thickness as Englum and Ezinge, although habitation started 650 years later at Wijnaldum. The measured levels of the tidal-flat/salt-marsh boundary underneath these terps make it possible to reconstruct palaeo-Mean High Water (MHW) levels. These sea-level index points show that palaeo-MHW in the Groningen part of the Wadden Sea was at the upper limit of the range of palaeo-MHW that has been reconstructed for the Dutch Wadden Sea on the basis of data from its western part. The deviating levels indicate that there are differences between regions of the Wadden Sea; this has earlier been established for the German section of the Wadden Sea. In the eastern part of the Dutch Wadden Sea, MHW nowadays is considerably higher than in the western part of the Wadden Sea; the data suggest that this may have been the case already in the 1st millennium BC. Salt marsh levels under dated terp layers make it possible to establish the rate of sedimentation of the developing salt marsh, at 23–91 cm per century for the pioneer zone and low marsh. This rate of development slowed to 4–5 cm per century for the middle marsh and 3–4 cm per century for the high salt marsh.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This article contributes to recent research on young women’s emerging feminist movements or feminist counter-publics in the digital age. The focus is on the #freethenipple protests in Iceland in 2015 organised by young women and the ensuing debates in mainstream digital news media and popular ezines. A feminist, post-structuralist perspective is adopted to analyse the discursive context in which the debates and discussions about the protest are embedded, but we are also informed by recent theories about role of affect in triggering and sustaining political movements. The data corpus consists of 60 texts from the digital public domain published during and after the protests. The young women’s political movement is construed as a revolution centring on reclaiming the body from the oppressive structures of patriarchy which, through shame and pornification, have taken their bodies and their ability to choose, in a post-feminist context, from them. Public representations of the protest are mostly supportive and many older feminists are affectively pulled by the young women’s rhetoric about how patriarchy has blighted their lives. We argue that the young women manage to claim space as agents of change but highlight the importance of the support or affective sustenance they received from older feminists.

Abstract:
A harmonic interpolation of a polygon (for odd and even numbers of points forming the polygon) used in computer graphics is derived from the primary permutation matrix using the spectral decomposition of the matrix. This is a technique to draw closed curves. We compare these curves with Bézier curves. We also show situations where the harmonic interpolation of a polygon is a more suitable alternative to B´ezier curves. Trigonometric Interpolation is another technique to draw curves. The relationship between trigonometric interpolation and harmonic interpolation is discussed.

Abstract:
Currently e-learning editions are actively conquering the educational environment, but there are some challenges and obstacles in the process. Therefore, the purpose of the article is to determine the perceptions of publishers and ezine publishers, as well as to clarify their role in the book digitization process. We believe this will highlight the advantages and disadvantages of using e-textbooks, obtain interesting and useful data for future promoters and publishers, help to systematize terminology. The article explores the perceptual characteristics of e-learning publications by publishers and publishers. For this purpose, a survey was conducted of 50 people who work in educational publishing houses. The questionnaire method was applied and a sample was formed as a material collection strategy, in particular a partial quantitative sample was applied. In addition, statistical observation was applied as a method of mathematical statistics, descriptive statistics to summarize indicators, and a content analysis method was used to provide quantitative data on the phenomenon under study. It was concluded that when creating new e-textbooks, factors should be taken into account: high quality, professional need (clearly define the target audience) and set a reasonable price. The survey results indicate that modern publishers are aware of the importance of the main features of electronic textbooks (hyperlinks, illustrations and high-quality multimedia), which gives hope that users will receive such publications in the near future.
