Abstract:
Extra lesson for students has been adopted by schools and families in Nigeria to enhance academic performance. The study was undertaken to investigate the effect of type of family and type of extra lesson on students’ academic performance. The students’ academic performance was from test administered jointly by the teachers and enumerators on 1,191 students in 24 randomly selected schools, eight each from the three senatorial districts. The effects of type of family, extra lesson and interaction between family and extra lesson were determined using a two-way analysis of variance. The result indicates that type of family (p-value = 0.021) and type extra lesson (p-value=0.001) have a significant effect on students’ academic performance, but the interaction between the two factors (p-value=0.081) does not have significantly effect. Further investigation revealed that students from monogamy family performed significantly better than those from polygamous families. Also, students involve in holiday lesson and home lesson did significantly better than those participating in school extra lesson. It is important that parents should have more time for their wards after school hours instead of transferring their responsibilities to the teachers by extending the school hours because of extra lesson. Keywords: Extra lesson, family, academic performance, students’ enrolment, analysis of variance.

Abstract:
Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) consumption has a beneficial effect on human health, especially for prevention of cardiovascular disease and metabolic disorders. Here we underscore the peculiar importance of specific cultivars used for EVOO production since biodiversity among cultivars in terms of fatty acids and polyphenols content could differently impact on the metabolic homeostasis. In this respect, the nutrigenomic approach could be very useful to fully dissect the pathways modulated by different EVOO cultivars in terms of mRNA and microRNA transcriptome. The identification of genes and miRNAs modulated by specific EVOO cultivars could also help to discover novel nutritional biomarkers for prevention and/or prognosis of human disease. Thus, the nutrigenomic approach depicts a novel scenario to investigate if a specific EVOO cultivar could have a positive effect on human health by preventing the onset of cardiovascular disease and/or chronic inflammatory disorders also leading to cancer.

Abstract:
The first year I was given a lesson-plan book to use for teaching, I was bewildered. My plans could not possibly fit into those two-inch-by-three-inch rectangles. Besides, we were also required to submit weekly lesson plans, which included a list of performance objectives, activities, materials, and assignments. I decided to use the plan book as a type of appointment calendar in which I would note changes in the school day, special assemblies, fire drills, meetings with counselors, and conferences with parents. To keep my materials organized, I stored my weekly lesson plans in the back of the lesson-plan book. But extra space still remained. Then I discovered what, for me, became a very effective tool in classroom management.

Abstract:
Modern Techniques are introduced in teaching and learning process frequently one such technique is Flipped Classroom learning. Where the pupils are asked to learn the contents given to them at their home from the available sources and they review the topics in their classroom. Since every student collect information from various sources like YouTube, Video lessons, different types of educational apps, Magazines and sources from elders etc. the collection will be excellent to review and collective ideas can help them to learn better than routine blackboard chalk and talk method by doing. So, they learn effectively and their doubts are cleared through discussion with peers in the presence of teacher. The teacher can conclude the teaching learning process by giving extra information left untouched by the students. The researcher is a computer science teacher so she took a lesson from Eleventh Standard Computer Science text book of State board in the 4th Chapter of Volume - I, "Theoretical Concepts of Operating System" and she prepared a video lesson, that video lesson is utilized by the students to learn the contents allotted to them. The Conclusion of her studying, she found that flipped classroom learning is effectively impact in the course content to the students.

Abstract:
A lecturer should do an ‘extra efforts’ to make the teaching learning process run smoothly. However, during the process, there is a fallibility which might not be directly observed by the lecturer. The lecturer, therefore, needs to carry out an evaluation of his/ her teaching. It can be done is through applying Lesson Study which consists of plan, do and see and involving observers to optimize the process. This research was limited on answering the research problems: what are the observers’ roles in lesson study to improve the competency of the lecturers? and what are the mutual feedback of the observers in conducting lesson study? The design of this study was descriptive and qualitative research. The required data were collected by using active-participatory observation by observing 3 observers and 5 model lecturers. In addition, the researcher also did post-interview. Based on two cycles of lesson study, the researcher found that the observers had significant roles to improve their competency. Moreover, the findings showed that they got mutual feedback to improve their competency and classroom management which is discipline, active, interactive, enjoyable, and motivating to make an active learning. This proves that lesson study is worth to be applied in developing the competency of the lecturers in faculty of teacher training and education.

Abstract:
Accomplished physical education (PE) teachers recognize teachers’ motivation, lesson implementation as well as the application of PE contents. This is because these affect teaching effectiveness in PE class. However, a previous study from Koonsri (2016) found that the teachers lacked motivation and focused on extra money or bonus from their teaching. In addition, because the pre-service PE teachers had poor experiences in teaching and controlling the classes, these issues affected the implementation and integration of the PE contents (Claypan, 2014; Kanchana, 2010). Thus, this study examines the relationship between teachers’ motivation, lesson implementation, and application of PE contents among pre-service PE teachers in Southern Thailand. The instruments regarding teachers’ motivation in terms of intrinsic and external motivation, lesson implementation, and application of PE contents were adopted from Tulyakul (2019). The respondents were 157 pre-service PE teachers in five universities in the border provinces of Southern Thailand. The result shows that there is a relationship between intrinsic and external motivation towards lesson implementation and the application of PE contents among the participants. Finally, there are proposed guidelines for the pre-service PE teachers to adjust and develop their teaching performance to enhance students' achievement in the future

If used properly, manipulatives can support the learning of mathematics and motivate students. The intelligent use of manipulatives takes advantage of their features, especially the extra features of computer manipulatives (Clements and McMillen 1996). The use of manipulatives must be integrated into a sound mathematical lesson. In this article, we present one example of an activity that capitalizes on the particular advantages of physical and computer pattern blocks.

Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to investigate the efficacy of a 'Reading Recovery' or an 'Extra Lesson' program in comparison to no intervention for children having difficulty reading in their second year at school. 'Reading Recovery' is an intervention program developed by Marie Clay to assist children who are showing signs of having difficulty learning to read after the first year at school. 'Reading Recovery' uses a whole language approach. The assumption is that given a second chance in a 1:1 structured learning environment, with a trained Reading Recovery teacher, the child will learn to read at an age appropriate level. The 'Extra Lesson' intervention is based on the paradigm of Rudolf Steiner's concept of education, which is a holistic developmental approach. The assumption is that there is a relationship between learning and development in the first seven years of the child's life. The 'Extra Lesson' assessment tests for and identifies developmental difficulties within the first seven years of the child's life and skills testing clarifies if the child has any significant learning difficulty. The 'Extra Lesson' intervention is a 1:1 program, based on a holistic developmental perspective of Rudolf Steiner, to work with the child's difficulties. The efficacy of both interventions was evaluated by using a case study design with embedded forms of analysis and a pre-test post-test non equivalent control group quasi-experimental design to measure the changes in the children's reading skills, processing speed, short term auditory memory and awareness of body geography. Follow up tests were administered 10 months after the post-tests. Case studies have been used to present the data collated for individual subjects and graphs were used for the analysis of group data. All the subjects showed an improvement in reading skills from the pre to the post-test. At follow up all the subjects tested continued to show an improvement in reading skills. Both interventions were shown to affect the subjects reading skills. A comparison of groups showed a slight measurable difference between the 'Reading Recovery', 'Extra Lesson' and Control group, with the 'Extra Lesson' showing a slightly larger improvement in sight word recognition. The treatment and Control groups' Writing Vocabulary increased from the pre to the post-test. The 'Reading Recovery' and Control groups' Writing Vocabulary decreased and the Extra Lesson group continued to improve at follow up. All the groups showed an improvement in short term auditory memory at the post-test and the Control and 'Extra lesson' groups continued to increase slightly at follow up and the 'Reading Recovery' group remained relatively constant. All the groups had relatively constant scores on Processing Speed from the pre to the post- test and at follow up. Neither intervention showed a measurable effect on Processing Speed. All the groups showed an improvement in graphical representation of body geography at the post-test and at follow up. The 'Extra Lesson' group showed the largest improvement at the post-test and long-term. The 'Extra Lesson' intervention had a positive and measurable effect on graphical representation of body geography after the intervention and long-term.

Abstract:
Lung inflammation may vary according to the primary site of injury and may be affected by the mechanical stress generated by mechanical ventilation (MV). Objectives: to address possible differences in lung and systemic responses in pulmonary and extra pulmonary ALI after mechanical ventilation. Methods: BALB/c mice were divided in twelve groups of six animals. In pulmonary and extrapulmonary control or ALI groups received either saline or LPS (intratracheally instilled or intraperitoneally injected), respectively. Ventilated groups were either recruited or not with a single recruitment maneuver (SRM) reaching 45 cm H2O. Results: At baseline ALI P and ALI EXP non ventilated groups presented the same level of inflammation; a statistically significant difference in density of inflammatory cells was noted in ALI P MV (3,84±1,28 cells/2) compared to ALI EXP MV (1,75±0,14 cells/2), p=0,013. The same was observed in ALI P SRM (2,92±0,44 cells/2) compared to ALI EXP SRM (1,46±0,23 cells/2) ventilated groups (p<0,0001). ALI P showed a statistically significant increase in El (56,19 ± 12,26 cm H2O) in comparison to ALI EXP (26,88 ± 36,38 cm H2O) after SRM (p = 0,029). No statistical differences were observed in kidney oxidative stress. Conclusion: We observed a different pattern of response in lung inflammation and mechanics comparing pulmonary and extra pulmonary ALI, submitted to short term mechanical ventilation. Although mechanical ventilation represents a fundamental tool to stabilize critical patients, it is essential to individualize the approach of the ventilatory treatment

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to evaluate, by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the presence of microorganisms organized as biofilms in the apical root third of vital and nonvital human primary teeth. Eighteen teeth were selected in three clinical situations: Group I - pulp vitality, Group II - pulp necrosis without periapical lesion and Group III - pulp necrosis with well defined radiographically visible periapical lesion. After extraction, the teeth were washed with saline and immersed in 0.03 g/mL trypsin solution during 20 minutes. Next, the teeth were washed in 0,1M sodium cacodilate buffer and stored in receptacles containing modified Karnovsky solution. After 5 days, the teeth were sectioned, dehydrated in an ethanol series, critical-point dried with CO2, sputter-coated with gold and examined by SEM. The results showed that in the teeth of Groups I and II, the root surface was covered by collagen fibers, without the presence of bacteria in all specimens (100%). In the teeth with pulp necrosis with well defined radiographically visible periapical lesion (Group III), the root apex showed no collagen fibers and presence of resorption areas containing microorganisms (cocci, bacilli, filaments and spirochetes) in all cases (100%). The presence of microorganisms organized as biofilms was detected only in the primary teeth with pulp necrosis and radiographically visible periapical lesion.

Abstract:
This creative thesis is about the new challenges of weightlessness andlightness faced by a number of contemporary artists. We are living in a increasinglyheavy world, yet artists are exploring ways to escape this gravityto reach a theoretical weightlessness. Because the way to display weightlessnessdoesn’t exist in terms of physics: it’s the phenomenon of free-fallingwhich creates this feeling of floating. So I seek to test theweight(less)ness concept, which explores this float and fall dialectic in numerousworks, mainly sculptural. I’m questioning my own practice ofsculpture, installation and drawing, through the prism of weight(less)ness, which builds an actual connection to the world and to the act of creation.I’m using the intrinsic property of the material to generate feelings ofweight or lightness. I’m also questioning the act of hanging a work in theexhibition space : nowadays, has suspension become the new pedestal of asculpture ? From the exhibition space to cosmic Space, artwork increasinglygains presence beyond earth’s boundaries, ever since the conquest ofspace. It’s created in Space and for Space : has cosmic Space become thenew place for art? Through figures of falling, of flight, of suspension, ofimaginary spaces, and even figures of invisibility, weight(less)ness builds averitable guiding light through contemporary creation

Abstract:

Breast cancer remains the leading cause of death among females worldwide. While systemic therapy for breast cancer may work effectively in the early phases, for more than 10% of primary and 50% of metastatic cases, the disease eventually progresses, resisting treatments. To overcome this issue, recognizing markers of resistance as early as possible is critical. However, the underlying mechanisms of resistance remains elusive. The influence of microenvironmental factors of the extracellular matrix (ECM) on tumor behavior has been revealed relatively recently and increased stiffness of ECM is associated with cancer progression. Additionally, impacts of other matrix components such as non-neoplastic epithelial cells (that may constitute an important portion of the tumor microenvironment -TME) are suspected to influence tumors but they have not been investigated in detail. Besides, it is not known whether the response to increasing stiffness depends on the subtypes of breast cancer. Here, using breast models in 3D cell culture we have shown that the non-neoplastic epithelial compartment can influence the effect of matrix stiffness even for tumors recognized as highly aggressive. The degree of tumor aggressiveness recognizable via tumor architecture is associated with a differential behavior when ECM stiffness changes. In a 3D microenvironmental context, which provides an optimal level of constraints for tumors to display their phenotype, we report stiffness and paracrine influence impact on cisplatin-mediated cytotoxicity, which correlates with distinct nuclear morphometry and distribution pattern associated with population heterogeneity. The response pattern varies across cell lines representing higher and lower levels of aggressiveness in the basal-like subtypes of breast cancer. Our results also highlight the need for integrating biochemical and physical components of the TME in future designs of in vitro drug screening platforms.

Abstract:
Wicked Philosophy. Philosophy of Science and Vision Development for Complex Problems provides an overview of the philosophy of the natural sciences, the social sciences and the humanities, and explores how insights from these three domains can be integrated to help find solutions for the complex, ‘wicked’ problems we are currently facing. The core of a new science-based vision is complexity thinking, offering a meta-position for navigating alternative paradigms and making informed choices of resources for projects involving complex problems. The book also brings design thinking into problem-solving and teaching, fostering construction of an integrative approach that bridges structure and action amplified by transdisciplinary engagement of stakeholders in society. It is not always easy to set up a succesfull philosophy course for students in other programs. The author of Wicked Philosophy, Coyan Tromp, has experience in designing courses on philosophy of science for various Bachelor programs. You can find two examples here. The first example is for an introductory course to an Interdisciplinary Philosophy of Science, which is specifically suited for programs focusing at complex problems such as sustainability or health issues. The second example is a program for a course on (Philosophy of) Science in a Post-Truth Society. More examples are also available (e.g. a program in which Philosophy of Science is combined with Vision Development and Future Scenarios). In addition to the program, the author can also provide a workbook with lesson plans, both for online and on campus settings as well as additional literature suggestions for Dutch and French programmes. Abstract:
Kant deals with national characters in the second part of his Anthropology from a pragmatic point of view of 1798. Firmly rejecting the climatic theory, he advocates an anti-naturalistic stance. However, Kant is skeptical of Hume’s tenet that nations owe their characters to their different forms of government. In Kant’s view, the most civilized nations are England and France: their characters have to do with purely cultural factors. Complementing each other, the characters of those nations broadly correspond to a masculine and feminine principle, as analyzed by Kant in the previous chapter of his Anthropology. The remaining European and Extra-European nations have a less defined – and, in some cases, mixed – character, that owes something more to the natural dispositions. Yet Kant still manages to avoid naturalistic explanations. In many nations, natural dispositions do prevail over cultural ones, but this simply means that less (and sometimes, nothing) can be said about their characters.

Abstract:
Abstract Far-UV circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy is a classical method for the study of the secondary structure of polypeptides in solution. It has been the general view that the α-helix content can be estimated accurately from the CD spectra. However, the technique was less reliable to estimate the β-sheet contents as a consequence of the structural variety of the β-sheets, which is reflected in a large spectral diversity of the CD spectra of proteins containing this secondary structure component. By taking into account the parallel or antiparallel orientation and the twist of the β-sheets, the Beta Structure Selection (BeStSel) method provides an improved β-structure determination and its performance is more accurate for any of the secondary structure types compared to previous CD spectrum analysis algorithms. Moreover, BeStSel provides extra information on the orientation and twist of the β-sheets which is sufficient for the prediction of the protein fold. The advantage of CD spectroscopy is that it is a fast and inexpensive technique with easy data processing which can be used in a wide protein concentration range and under various buffer conditions. It is especially useful when the atomic resolution structure is not available, such as the case of protein aggregates, membrane proteins or natively disordered chains, for studying conformational transitions, testing the effect of the environmental conditions on the protein structure, for verifying the correct fold of recombinant proteins in every scientific fields working on proteins from basic protein science to biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry. Here, we provide a brief step-by-step guide to record the CD spectra of proteins and their analysis with the BeStSel method.

"Pull Test Study of the MFL-A Performance Within Casings to Improve ILI-Based Corrosion Management of Cased Pipes." In 2020 13th International Pipeline Conference. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/ipc2020-9601.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract High resolution magnetic flux leakage (MFL) in-line inspection (ILI) technology has proven to be one of the most effective approaches to manage corrosion anomalies within the pipeline industry. However, due to the presence of extra metal, pipeline casings are suspected of impacting the detection and sizing accuracy of MFL systems for metal loss features when they are located under casings. A research project was carried out by TC Energy (TCE) with ROSEN to better understand the effect of pipeline casings on the performance of axially-aligned MFL ILI (MFL-A) technology. The study involved full-scale pull through testing to investigate the effects of various casing conditions and the presence of different types of casing spacers on the inspection system’s sizing and detection performance for corrosion anomalies, including the casing eccentricity, the presence of metallic and electrolytic shorting, and the presence of different types of casing spacers. The testing for various eccentricity and shorting scenarios were compared to an uncased baseline scenario. An important lesson learned by the project team through this research is the importance of identifying key factors that influence the system performance when analyzing the testing results. Failure in doing so can lead to less meaningful results: in this case, an overly conservative estimate of the sizing performance that does not discriminate appropriately where the system performed well and where the system performed worse than expected. The impact of such a broad-brushing and overly conservative estimate in the MFL system performance to pipeline integrity decisions is very significant and can result in a large number of unnecessary repairs in practice. With comprehensive data analytics, it was identified that the key factors affecting the tool performance for cased pipes are the small annulus gaps between the casing and the carrier pipe at the feature location, and the presence of certain types of spacers. For the vast majority of cases, the ILI performance under casings is comparable to the performance for uncased pipes. The results from this research suggests that with appropriate consideration of the system performance, TCE’s probabilistic ILI based corrosion management program can effectively manage corrosion anomalies within cased pipes using ILI. Additional research and testing are underway to further support this conclusion.

Abstract:
Aims: Extra ovarian granulosa cell tumor (GCT) is extremely rare tumor, assumed to arise from the ectopic gonadal tissue along the embryonal route of the genital ridge. A case of extra ovarian granulosa cell tumor of omentum in a 69 year old female presented here. Materials and Methods: A 69 years old postmenopausal, hypertensive female presented with complaints of pain in right lumber and iliac region of one month duration. Pain was off and on and intermittent. The patient had a history of hysterectomy 12 years ago for fibroid uterus. Results: Ultrasound examination of abdomen showed a hypoechoic lesion of size 78.1 mm x 57.3 mm in right iliac fossa with mild thickening of surrounding omentum. Another hypoechoic lesion of size 36.7 mm x 22.9 mm was seen in retroperitoneal region in supero-medial aspect of right kidney. CECT abdomen showed heterogeneously enhanced nodular lesion of size 6.6 x 6.8 cm in right lumbar region, mild thickening of surrounded omentum also seen however there was no evidence of infiltration to bowel loop seen. Uterus was not visualized. PET CT whole body revealed mildly metabolically active enlarged nodes in the bilateral level ib an ii, metabolically active large lobulated heterogeneously enhancing soft tissue density lesion in right lumbar region with non enhancing areas of necrosis. The lesion is closely abutting the anterior abdominal wall musculature antero laterally and small bowel loop medially surrounding mesenty shows increased vascularity and haziness. Colonoscopy findings were normal. Trucut biopsy of mass right lumbar region was positive for malignancy likely Round cell Sarcoma. A provisional diagnosis of retroperitoneal sarcoma of right lumbar region was made. She underwent exploratory laparotomy with excision of tumor. As per Operative findings there was approximately 8 x 7 cm, firm, omental mass present right to midline, arising from under surface of greater omentum. Ovaries were normal. Gross examination of omental mass showed nodular mass measuring 8 x 5 x 6 cm. External surface was multinodular and cut surface was grey brown to grey yellow with solid cystic areas and areas of necrosis. Microscopic examination of specimen showed Extraovarian Adult granulosa cell tumor/metastasis from occult granulose cell tumor. On IHC Vimentin, CK, SMA, Inhibin were positive, Ki67:15%, ER/PR were also positive and are negative for calretinin, thromobomodulin. Extensive necrosis was seen. After that she underwent rexploration and total omenectomy. HPE showed fat necrosis in omentum. All investigation showed no evidence of tumor in ovaries and at any other primary site then the patient finally diagnosed as having Granulosa cell tumor involving only omentum post op stage III C. Then patient was given six courses of chemotherapy with Inj Paclitaxel and Inj Carboplatin three weekly. Now patient is on regular follow up and disease free. Conclusion: Extra ovarian adult granulosa cell tumor of omentum is rare tumor. Multimodal treatment approaches including surgery, multi-agent chemotherapy may provide a survival benefit for patients.

Abstract:
The low patency rates of Arteriovenous (AV) fistulae are well documented in the literature [1]. Up to 90% of AV fistula morbidity is caused by stenotic lesion formation and the subsequent development of thrombosis in the Vascular Access (VA) junction [1]. The underlying pathology of these stenotic lesions is intimal hyperplasia (IH) which has been characterized by the degradation of the extra cellular matrix (ECM), migration and proliferation of smooth muscle cells (SMCs) and the infiltration of leukocytes and monocytes into the intima. IH primarily occurs in a number of key locations within the VA junction of AV fistulae which include the suture line of the anastomosis, on the floor of the vein opposite the VA junction and downstream of the anastomosis within the venous conduit of the AV fistula [2].

Full text
Abstract:
Early-age cracking in concrete decks significantly reduces the service life of bridges. This report discusses the application of various concrete mixtures that include potential early mitigation ingredients. Large-scale (7 ft × 10 ft) experimental bridge prototypes with similar restraint conditions found in actual bridges were poured with different concrete mixtures to investigate mitigation techniques. Portland cement (control), expansive Type K cement, internally cured lightweight aggregate (LWA), shrinkage-reducing admixture (SRA), and gypsum mineral were investigated as mitigating ingredients. Seven concrete mixtures were prepared by using individual ingredients as well as a combination of different ingredients. The idea behind combining different mitigating techniques was to accumulate the combined benefit from individual mitigating materials. The combined Type K cement and LWA mixture showed higher concrete expansion compared with mixtures containing Portland cement, Type K cement, LWA, and SRA in the large-scale experimental deck. Extra water provided by LWA significantly enhanced the performance of Type K cement’s initial expansion as well as caused larger total shrinkage over the drying period. A combination of Type K cement and gypsum mineral showed insignificantly higher expansion compared with the individual Type K mixture. Overall, the experimental deck containing SRA showed the least total shrinkage compared with other mixtures. Finite-element modeling was performed to evaluate and predict concrete stress-strain behavior due to shrinkage in typical bridges. A parametric study using finite-element analysis was conducted by altering the structure of the experimental deck. More restraint from internal reinforcement, less girder spacing, larger girder flange width, and more restrictive support conditions increased the concrete tensile stress and led to potential cracking in the concrete deck.

Perkins, Dustin. Invasive exotic plant monitoring at Colorado National Monument: 2019 field season. Edited by Alice Wondrak Biel. National Park Service, July 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.36967/nrr-2286650.

Full text
Abstract:
Invasive exotic plant (IEP) species are a significant threat to natural ecosystem integrity and biodiversity, and controlling them is a high priority for the National Park Service. The North-ern Colorado Plateau Network (NCPN) selected the early detection of IEPs as one of 11 monitoring protocols to be implemented as part of its long-term monitoring program. This report represents work completed at Colorado National Monument during 2019. During monitoring conducted June 12–19, a total of 20 IEP species were detected on monitoring routes and transects. Of these, 12 were priority species that accounted for 791 separate IEP patches. IEPs were most prevalent along riparian areas. Yellow sweetclover (Melilotis officinale) and yellow salsify (Tragopogon dubius) were the most commonly detected priority IEPs along monitoring routes, representing 73% of all priority patches. Patches of less than 40 m2 were typical of nearly all priority IEP species except yellow sweetclover. A patch management index (PMI) was created by combining patch size class and percent cover for each patch. In 2019, a large majority of priority IEP patches were assigned a PMI score of low (46%) or very low (50%), indicating small and/or sparse patches where control is generally still feasible. This is similar to the numbers for 2017, when 99% of patches scored low or very low in PMI. Seventy-eight percent of tree patches were classified as seedlings or saplings, which require less effort to control than mature trees. Cheatgrass (Anisantha tectorum) was the most common IEP recorded in transects, found in 30–77% of transects across the different routes. It was the only species found in transects on all monitoring routes. When treated and untreated extra areas near the West Entrance were compared, the treated area had comparable or higher lev-els of IEPs than the untreated area. When segments of monitoring routes conducted between 2003 and 2019 were compared, results were mixed, due to the different species monitored in different time periods. But in general, the number of IEPs per 100 meters is increasing or remaining constant over time. There were notable increases in IEP patches per 100 meters on several routes in 2019: field bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis) along East Glade Park Road; Siberian elm (Ulmus pumila) in Red Canyon; yellow salsify along East Glade Park Road, No Thoroughfare Canyon, No Thoroughfare Trail, and Red Canyon; and yellow sweetclover in No Thoroughfare Canyon and Red Canyon. Network staff will return to re-sample monitoring routes in 2021.
