Full textOur research seeks to identify the challenges encountered by French expatriates living in South Korea when adapting to the local culture, particularly the new standards of today's working environment inspired by sociocultural changes and Korea's younger generation. French expatriates have found it difficult to adapt effectively to local cultures and traditions, making it one of the great challenges they face. In this context, this thesis aims to understand the influence of Korean culture on the adaptation of French expatriates and the challenges of their intercultural adaptation to the host country. We will investigate how French expatriates perceive their experiences in Korea and what they think of Koreans' approach to work. At the same time, this study is interested in the intersections of the two cultural perspectives of French expatriates and local employees. We will observe how each group represents these perspectives and mutually interprets practices, working methods, and behaviors according to their own specific cultural contexts. However, work values, attitudes, and behaviors in the Korean workplace are rapidly changing due to the new generation entering the workforce. Despite this sociocultural transformation of Korean society, the perspective of French expatriates does not reflect the changing characteristics of the Korean workforce. This research is therefore structured around two points: intercultural and intergenerational, taking into account the changes in job attitudes accelerated by the younger generation. The aim of this thesis is to bring a new perspective to intercultural approaches by combining intercultural and intergenerational issues. By relating these two different points, this thesis aims to understand how the intersection of such perspectives can influence the adaptation of French expatriates working in Korea

Full textOur thesis centers on two main purposes : foreign languages policy and the training of french-language teachers in secondary schools in south korea. Having defioned the theoretical framework of our study, we outline the history of language policy and its practical application by means of an analysis of teaching programs and teaching practices. We then draw conclusions about the taining of french-language teachers. This leads us to the following conclusion. The problems of french-language teaching in south korea result from the discrepancy between official programs (intended to stress communication) and their practical application (in reality based on a grammatical approach). The former do not take account of the reality of the school system (overcrowded classes, poorly trained teachers, arbitrary assessment, etc. ). In order to solve these problems, we suggest a number of appropriate solutions which would be "the first steps" or the "first didactic operations" leading to a coherent system with the aim of appreciably improving french-language teaching in south korea

Full textEach Country has its own system of criminal investigation, with its own historical and cultural evolution. Despite major changes in Korean society during the twentieth century such as Japanese colonization (1910-1945), division between the north and south of the country (1945), Korean War (1950-1953), the establishment of a military dictatorship by coup d’état(1961), and so on. Korea became a democratic country, continuing even today to democratize its society to remove remnants of past systems that are always present. One of the important points of this democratization is the reform of the judicial system to make the country more just and restore the confidence of the Korean people in it. To understand the current situation, it is necessary to present the evolution of criminal investigation system in Korea throughout its history, particularly the historical formation of the public prosecutors’ service and the national police as the criminal investigative agencies. Also we have to note the importance, for this subject, of Japanese law and French law, because the Korean criminal investigative system is a system strongly influenced by the judicial system of the both foreign countries. However, it is not possible to find a direct influence of French law in the legal history of Korea because Korean law has just borrowed the institutional concepts from French law under the influence of Japanese law (who had adopted the French law to modernize its judicial system during the Meiji period) during the Japanese colonization. Thus, there are some traditional conceptions of French institution in the current Korean system, centralization and hierarchy. The Korean police and the public prosecutors’ service, which are the two main organizations are responsible for dealing with criminal cases, are centralized and they also have hierarchical relationships between them

Full textFollowing a brief presentation of the Korean education system, and a brief history of French language teaching in this region, from the first French missionaries to the success of the Delf-Dalf certifications, we sought to understand why, the teaching of French does not seem to have the same appeal to most of the 27,000 Korean high school students to whom it is still being taught today. Considering the recommendations of the European Commission for language teaching, giving particular attention to the conclusions of the cognitive sciences in education, we shall demonstrate that the enrolment of French exchange students as peer instructors, along with online engaging activities, would likely revive the interest of those young Korean learners. Analyzing the technological habits of this generation who was born with the Internet, led us to believe that, despite the reluctance of teachers to use these so-called ‘educational’ technologies, their implementation seems indeed appropriate, first to drive practices forward, and furthermore, to make human encounters easier. We will share our views on how our roles as instructors have evolved since setting up a participatory teaching network among secondary school and undergraduate students of French. The analysis of the interviews and surveys we have been conducting periodically over several years, in order to probe the difficulties of developing such a site, shows that beyond technology, designing and sharing teaching resources has opened promising and unexpected perspectives: along with increasing usage of internet technologies, lively student interaction is still an essential part of language acquisition

Full textThis study bears on the metalinguistic culture that can be found in the teaching of languages in South Korea, at the level of secondary school, especially concerning French. This research aims at identifying which kind of educational culture is involved in the teaching of foreign languages as dispensed in the official instructions and the teacher’s guides and textbooks on the three languages [Korean, English, French]. In the school context, Korean learners follow the very same course in their study of foreign languages as their teachers previously did [Korean native tongue, English as only possible first foreign language]. We tried to determine whether there is an influence related to the order of this obligatory learning sequence [Korean, English, French], by examining the pedagogical discourses and linguistic descriptions which appear in the textbooks on the three languages, all texts coming from the 7th Reform of the curriculum. More particularly, we think we have shown, on the basis of an analysis of the textbooks and teacher’s guides on French, in which way metalinguistic and educational cultures that can be detected in the teaching of French are influenced by the metalinguistic and educational cultures which were referred to during the learning of Korean and English languages. The Korean authors of textbooks on French call upon concepts coming from the description of Korean or English languages, when there is no available equivalent between the target language and the source language

Full textThe impressive, rapid development of the teaching of French in the Korean secondary and tertiary sectors during the last twenty years can be explained by reference to two complementary factors ; on the one hand, the Confucian ethic which imposes on each individual the moral duty to improve his educational level, and on the other, the undeniable influence of the Korean economic miracle. These factors have had centripetal repercussions on related fields such as the teaching of French. Nevertheless, the quality of French education in Korea has suffered acutely from the essentially pragmatic attitude which has resulted from the determined policy of koreanising foreign contributions to the national culture, a policy imposed by the military which has held power without interruption since 1961. Moreover, the fact that the development of the teaching of French has been quantitative rather than qualitative, can be attributed firstly, to the chronic inadequacy of the pedagogical training given to teachers at all levels of their French studies, and secondly, to the size of the classes which never have fewer than 50 60 students. A further aggravating factor is the fact that study at the secondary level are oriented towards the multiple choice university entrance examination. The above considerations have led to the conclusion that the teaching of French in Korea have done nothing to improve Franco Korean relations which continue to exhibit a lack of mutual understanding

Full textThe legal literature let us know that a divorce, very old institution allowing to break the marital relation in a definitive and radical way, is closely linked to the prevailing ideology and political movements of the country. The comparison of legislations in divorce, purpose of our study, allows, on the one hand, to notice the evolution of the “right to divorce” is underlined by successive steps of prohibition of divorce and recovery both in France and in South Korea. The principle of “right to divorce” once accepted, this comparative approach allows on the other hand, to perceive that, regarding “divorce law”, the fundamental legislative choice turns on two ideas in both legal systems : diversify divorce cases to answer the diversity of a marital crisis, and not dramatize divorce encouraging spouses to reach an agreement on the consequences of divorce. The comparative approach reveals once again that the rules often lead to similar solutions but to accomplish goals, sometimes the legislators of the both countries have took different ways

Full textAn in-depth comparative study of arbitration between Korean and French law has never been considered in France. From the Korean comparative point of view, French arbitration law is of particular interest for the next possible directions of Korean arbitration law. For this reason, since the 1999 reform, even after the 2016 revision, Korean jurists have been paying attention to foreign arbitration regulations, especially with regard to the international influence of the French arbitration system. Therefore, it seems relevant to present the evolution of the two arbitration laws by focusing on several reforms that provide solutions to the problems raised by the application of the previous rules. Thus, the question is whether the current Korean legislation is sufficient to meet the requirements of the international community and to promote the Korean commercial arbitration system internationally. If not, should French law be used as an inspiration to define new directions for arbitration practices and laws ? In this respect, it seems interesting to compare in particular the regime of the arbitral award in Korean law and in French law. This comparative analysis will therefore seek to explain the reasons of the differences in the solutions provided by these two laws, on a legislative and jurisdictional level, in order to guide the Korean doctrine and legislator and to highlight developments likely to reassure foreign parties considering arbitration in South Korea
