Abstract:
The paper presents the analytical information about the development of exhibition activity in Moscow as an information, communication and intellectual resources of socio-economic development of the region. On the basis of extensive statisticsthe author traced the dynamics of quantitative and qualitative development indexes of the sphere of exhibition and fair activities, which directly depends on the state of economics and investment activity in the territory. Exhibitions and fairs in Moscow is one of the most important sectors of the economy of the city, that largely determines the socio-economic and cultural development of the capital. 15 exhibition venues of the capital annually hold approximately 550 exhibition events with international participation, including the ones proposed by foreign organizations. The main trend in recent years has been to move many exhibitions fromunspecialized platforms and poorly equipped exhibition centers to complexes of international level. In Moscow exhibition centers that meet international standards are Expocenter and Crocus Expo. Moscow has 943.2 thousand square meters of exhibition spaces. Another feature of Moscow exhibition market is the prevalence of specialized and highly specialized exhibitions. The market of trade exhibitions and fairs develops more in the direction of B2B, i.e. business to business. Whereas regional-level activities are mainly targeted at fi nal customers. An important aspect of the exhibition-fair and congress activities is its socio-economic orientation, that providesfor increased business activity in the regions, development of regional economies, eff ective market positioning of territories, creation of new jobs and permanent employment in the region’s infrastructure. The author concludes that there is a need for state regulation of the exhibition activity, development and improvement of the regulatory and legal framework for its regulation.

Abstract:
The article provides insights into the role of exhibitions in managing innovative development of enterprises in various industries, with or without consideration of risks posed by the COVID crisis. Based on the results of previous research, the findings reveal that the process of innovation development management should involve management decisions made both on each of its structural elements separately and overall. An emphasis is put that the choice of company innovative development strategy and its market promotion strategy for products / services affect the significance and relevance of company exhibition participation as well as the need to plan the exhibition participation costs. The results of the survey of managers and executives in various sectors of the economy who participated in exhibitions during 2019-2020 demonstrate that these costs might also depend on the exhibition objectives and the formats perceived by managers within the overall plan of company innovative development management. The study discusses the major exhibition participation goals in the framework of implementing alternative strategies of enterprise innovative development along with providing evidence that exhibition participation is of the highest priority in case of implementing a novel strategy, and the lowest – in case of using a retro-innovation strategy. The case studies from the selected companies of consumer goods industries presented the goals and a brief description of the specifics of their participation in exhibitions in the process of managing their innovative development. The conclusion has verified that the exhibition participation priorities in the process of enterprise innovative development management vary significantly subject to industry affiliation and the selected strategy for innovative development as well as may result from various restrictions imposed by a pandemic, in particular. Apart from the above, the findings have identified the risks of exhibition activities during the COVID period and outlined anticipated trends of change in business decisions as to exhibition participation. It is argued that online exhibitions have proved a good alternative to traditional exhibitions activities, however they challenge the application of advanced digital technologies. The results of this study can be used to enhance enterprise innovative development management practices.

Abstract:
Creative holography could still be considered a fringe medium or methodology, compared to mainstream art activities. Unsurprisingly, work using this technology continues to be shown together with other holographic works. This paper examines the merits of exhibiting such works alongside other media. It also explores how this can contribute to the development of a personal critical framework and a broader analytical discourse about creative holography. The perceived limitations of showing holograms in a “gallery ghetto” are explored using early critical art reviews about these group exhibitions. An international exhibition, which toured the United Kingdom (UK) and Australia, is used as a framework to expand the discussion. These exhibitions include examples of the author’s holographic work and those of artists working with other (non-holographic) media and approaches. The touring exhibition as a transient, research-informed process is investigated, as is its impact on the critical development of work using holography as a valid medium, approach, and methodology in the creative arts.

Abstract:
With the exhibition sector becoming increasingly important for the hospitality and tourism industry, it is critical to understand what drives the success of an exhibition. Through a comprehensive literature review, we first identified two broad categories of factors, namely exhibition attributes and exhibitor perceptions, that influence exhibitor satisfaction and loyalty. Next, a meta-analysis was conducted based on 26 empirical papers studying the Chinese exhibition market to quantitatively evaluate these relationships. The results show that among the exhibition attributes, booth management, service personnel, and exhibition environment are the most important factors affecting exhibitor satisfaction, while exhibition brand is the most important factor affecting loyalty. Among exhibitor perceptions, service quality is more important for satisfaction, while perceived value is more meaningful to loyalty. This study offers insights into strategies for exhibition organizers to cultivate long-term relationships, and to better cope with the challenges of emerging forces such as the Internet.

Abstract:
The exhibition industry, despite its relative novelty, is actively developing and interacting with all sectors of the global and national economies. International exhibitions offer producers and exporters ways of developing new markets, displaying samples of goods, services and technologies. For the government, supporting exhibitors, both inside the country and internationally, has turned into one of the organizational forms of pursuing their most important economic interests. Due to the objective trends and in furtherance of national interests it has become necessary to develop a strategy for the development of the exhibition and trade fair industry, to determine its priorities with competitive advantages and to create integrated program/projectbased mechanisms for its implementation. A current trend in the development of the new industry consists in various forms and methods of its support at both the federal and regional levels. The issue of regulation and standardization of the exhibition industry, and training professional personnel has also been on the agenda. The fragmentary and discrete approach to creating standards for exhibition and fair activities should be replaced by comprehensive management. At the national level, it is also necessary to implement a systemic unified approach to financial motivation and compensation for costs of participation in exhibitions, and to use other support measures as aimed at both organizers of international exhibitions and exhibition facilities. The specified development trends of the brand-new exhibition and trade fair industry are being discussed in this paper.

Alex, Roger. "Concept development of framework or interactive exhibition." Thesis, KTH, Maskinkonstruktion (Inst.), 2010. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:kth:diva-99332.

Abstract:
This Master Thesis was started with The Interactive Institutes's department for Art & Technology . The project was to further develop a concept they had created for subscription exhibitions. The core idea of the concept was centered around a computer screen that was to show an interactive video artwork that the user could interact with by rotating the screen around the display stand. The goal of the project was to develop their concept to such a degree that it would be possible to manufacture a finished product. Initially this included both the development of a framework for the construction as well as the design of an exterior shell. After initial research and consultation with the commissioner it was however decided to shift the focus of the project to the development of the framework. This so that the exterior design in a later stage could be created to suit the profile of multiple customers and thus make for a more versatile solution. The desired result of the work was to contain the documentation needed for construction and to enable the concept for an external designer to come in at a later stage and create the exterior shell. The developed concept consisted of three main parts, first the main body that enabled the height adjusting function to enable a hide range of users, then the head that contains the rotary function as well as being prepared to house the needed electronic components and lastly the areas that have been prepared for the attachment of an exterior shell. This way an almost completely finished solution was created. The finished result consists of a list of parts for material and components as well as technical drawings for the manufacture of desired parts and assembly. Future work could include the manufacture of a prototype so that any problems can be isolated and rectified. With the aid of a prototype it would also be easier to bring in users to asses their reactions to the product and also to gauge how different designs would alter the user experience. With time permitting it could also be of interest to delve into related areas that could expand the usability of the concept.

Smith, Daniel Charles Patrick. "City revealed : the process and politics of exhibition development : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in Museum Studies at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand." Massey University. School of Maori Studies, 2003. http://hdl.handle.net/10179/253.

Abstract:
This thesis examines the ways in which the process of exhibition development and the politics this involves affects the practice of history in the museum. It does this by establishing the broad parameters of history practice in the museum and places this in relation to academic practice, focusing on the New Zealand context and specifically upon Auckland War Memorial Museum. From this basis the thesis examines the development of City exhibition at Auckland Museum as a large-scale museum history exposition. The development process for this exhibition was created with the aim of changing the traditional Museum approach so as to create a more engaging and scholarly history exhibition than is traditional. At the same time however, there was also an aim of retaining the appearance of the traditional Museum within this programme of change. These aims were to be met by the innovation of the collaboration between an academic historian and the Museum's practitioners in the development process. The research is based upon a detailed investigation of the roles played by the exhibition team members and the decisions, negotiations and compromises that they made through the development process. Beginning with their original intentions and concepts for the exhibition its metamorphosis into the exhibition as it was installed in the Museum gallery is traced. Emphasis is placed on the resonance that the various decisions and changes carried into the finished exhibition. The findings indicate that the Museum's traditions of developing and displaying knowledge exerted a strong conservative effect over the exhibition development in conflict with the programme of change. This conservatism vied with the authorial intentions of the exhibition development team. As a result of this influence the exhibition developed leant towards the conventional. The unexpectedly orthodox outcome resulted from the absence of critical museological practice. The thesis argues that although Auckland Museum had undergone extensive restructuring, including the introduction of new exhibition development processes and a new outlook as an organisation, the conception of history in the Museum had not changed. Ultimately this precluded that the practice of history in the institution would advance through the revised exhibition development process. However, the development of City did help achieve the updating of social history in the Museum and remains a platform upon which a more critical approach to the past can be built.

Abstract:
As museum exhibition design becomes technically complex and design teams more specialised and fragmented, the need to plan, co-ordinate and increase the quality of the design process is becoming more important. According to a preliminary analysis of science museums, multi-disciplinary, targeted, technology-based exhibits are replacing traditional object based displays; therefore, a specifically multi-disciplinary model is necessary to develop a workable museum exhibitiond design process (MEDP) model. This research explores the theoryo of design processes and museum exhibitions as a means of developing an MEDP model and takes a comprehensive look at how design process models are currently used in developing museum exhibitions. It aims at establishin ga process model specifically for inter-disciplinary exhibition design work in science museums, which is theory-base and can be used as a prescriptive design aid to enhance the effective use of design information. Research methods comprise an exploratory study of literature and collected data, the development of surveys and case studies and their analysis in terms of MEDP methodology. The research examines theoretical (architectural, product and exhibition) models and develops a small number of case studies showing how design concepts are managed in real-world practice. A live case 'The Discovery Centre at Millennium Point' was used to observe two exhibition design projects in progress and to provide an overview of practical processs in design development. In addition, other case studies of `completed' museum exhibition design projects were developed by physical site surveys, questionnaires and interviews. The MEDP model is constructed from data flow diagrams generically representing the tasks involved and the associated information flows in a consistent manner and was evaluated for its concept development capability by designers and curators. Future development is also considered in relation to museology, design management and project management.

Abstract:
During the Spring 2006 semester, Virginia Commonwealth University students enrolled in the graduate Museum Studies course on exhibition development collaboratively curated an exhibition entitled From the Seat of Authority, which opened at the Anderson Gallery in June 2006. This thesis project documents the exhibition and offers an account of the deliberative and creative development process in which student-curators engaged. It is different from other case studies that focus on the technical aspects of curating an exhibition.Major components of the development process include articulating a theme, selecting artworks, writing interpretive text, and designing display techniques. This thesis project aims to characterize the development of these components in relationship to the overall creative processes. It is important to note that the previously mentioned four components were not developed independently of one another, as the exhibit development process was non-linear and organic.

Abstract:
For about the first fifteen years after its commercial introduction motion picture entertainment throughout the United States was supported almost entirely by the mass of urban industrial workers, immigrants and their families. Beginning a few years before 1910 motion pictures began acquiring regular support from a limited element of the more affluent citizens until by the end of 1916 they constituted motion pictures' primary audience. This paper examines the audience development and conversion as it occurred in the downtown theaters of Portland, Oregon. Motion pictures were shown to two diverse audiences in Portland during the 1890s, regularly on a mass level to the lower income strata and sporadically to regular stage theater audiences. Their expectations differed greatly. Urban workers craved entertainment for the sake of diversion while middle and upper class audiences required responsibility and purpose in their entertainments. After the turn of the century when big time vaudeville established itself in Portland films were supported almost entirely by the lower class element in arcades and vaudeville theaters. Motion pictures in these venues catered to their audiences' tastes. During the 4-5 year period after nickelodeons developed in 1906 a small number of Portland's middle class became regular patrons, due partially to national imposition of licensing and establishment of a censorship board fostering a more respectable image. After 1910, when national support for motion pictures had been proven permanent and unsatisfied, large movie palaces emerged in Portland. These theaters and their amenities created atmospheres consistent with those of stage theaters, providing comfortable and familiar surroundings for middle class audiences. Industrywide developments such as increased story length, better quality productions and evidence of social responsibility enhanced the ease of middle class transition from the stage theater to the movie theater.

Abstract:
This thesis discusses some aspects of the exhibition designer's role in state museums and galleries. It draws on the author's experiences in Singapore and his observations as a student living in Sydney. Museum exhibition designers are servants of the state. They help create public culture and promote a version of history. But if one is to understand the ways in which designers create meaning (and serve their employer's interests) we need to identify the 'vocabulary' and 'grammar' that they have at their disposal. To this end, the thesis outlines the variables that they work with and argues that they need to understand their employer's ideologies and history. The design vocabulary and grammar that the exhibition designer works with to create meaning in bridging understanding needs to be commensurate with the knowledge of history and the primary ideologies of the state which he/she serves. Singapore's recent interest in arts and heritage museums as part of a larger desire for regional economic and cultural survival and pre-eminence needs to be identified with the evolution, interconnectedness and ambitions of Singapore's arts and cultural organisations. In conjunction, some of the implications of Singapore's Arts and Heritage Policy need to be unpacked. A brief but concise comparative history of Sydney, Australia is made for the arts, cultural and museum comparison between Australia and Singapore. The exhibition designer's vocabulary and grammar can then be used to evaluate four exhibitions in Sydney and Singapore. This dissertation addresses the issues of 'Asian-ness' , modernisation without westernisation and the state's desire to meet the challenges which global communication systems place upon Singapore citizen's welfare. The dissertation is very art focused. It discusses all display objects as though they were paintings and works of fine art

The proposed expansion of the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center was approved by the Massachusetts legislature in 2009. In 2010, the governor put the expansion on hold citing an overstated economic impact. Proponents argue that expanding the convention center will lead to increased occupancy and significant economic benefits. But do the benefits outweigh the costs? The first part of this thesis provides an overview of the convention center market in the US as well as two case studies of convention centers that have undergone expansions. The second part closely examines the history and performance of the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center using data from the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority along with data from various other sources to project realistic economic costs and benefits of the expansion as currently proposed.

Hanson, Stuart. "Contemporary developments in cinema exhibition." Thesis, De Montfort University, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/2086/11105.

Full text
Abstract:
The work offered for this PhD by Published Works charts the history of cinema exhibition in Britain from the late 1950s to the present. At the start of this period, cinemagoing as a form of public entertainment entered a long period of decline that was only arrested with the development and growth of multiplex cinemas in the 1980s and 1990s. Despite these changes, the feature film itself remained a culturally and commercially valuable artefact, though increasingly this meant the Hollywood film. Whilst due consideration is afforded to the technological changes in cinemas and the cinema apparatus, my work places the development of cinemagoing in a broad social, economic, cultural and political context, and explains how these issues impact upon on-going developments. In the late 1950s, cinemagoing declined partly in response to changing leisure habits, demographic shifts, the growth of consumer culture, television, and the widespread adoption of new broadcast technologies like home video and satellite. The multiplex returned feature films to cinemas, but was a definitively American commercial form closely associated with new forms of leisure and out-of-town retailing. There are also parallels between the context for development of the multiplex in the USA – suburbanisation, shopping malls and reliance on the motorcar – and developments in Britain in the last 30 years. To this end there is a specific emphasis on the development of the multiplex cinema as part of a wider narrative about the re-positioning of cinemagoing as a collective, public form of visual entertainment, in the period from the mid-1980s, in the context of some dramatic changes in the transient nature of capitalism and urban planning. From the early 1990s onwards there was a growing anxiety about the impact of out-of-town developments on Britain’s urban centres, and a concomitant and renewed emphasis on the importance of the urban core rather than the edge. Thus, the key to understanding the evolution of cinema exhibition today is to pay particular attention to urban planning as inherently ideological, shifting and changing in line with broader political, economic and social considerations.

Abstract:
The I SEA project aimed at the development of a non-obtrusive, valid and replicable method to evaluate audience attitudes about science communication projects through an immersive virtual reality environment that can improve exhibitions while educating and empowering citizens. To achieve the objectives of this highly complex, highly interdisciplinary, and innovative project, a permanent articulation of the scientific approach with the technical and design development took place, aiming the construction of the non- invasive evaluation method. Because it is an intricate project, it required constant iterations and interactions among the team members. So, we’ve learned somehow to consider limitations as engines for developing the project, instead of seeing them as obstacles.
