Abstract:
This research was motivated by the deradicalization of ex-terrorist convicts. It requires understanding the development of radicalization and sociological aspects, e.g., community acceptance and rejection of ex-terrorist convicts. One of the efforts to return ex-terrorist convicts to the community is developing their potential in creative economic activities. This study aimed to evaluate entrepreneurship training for ex-terrorist convicts to improve their creative economy management skills. The research approach employed in this study is a descriptive evaluation of the implementation of entrepreneurship training for ex-terrorist convicts to develop creative economy management abilities, which is specifically designed for them. This research novelty is training ex-convicts as a form of self-development and a solution for them to be entrepreneurs; besides, they can readjust to society according to the rules and norms that apply. In this study, the data sources were ex-terrorist prisoners chosen randomly to participate in entrepreneurship training designed beforehand. According to the study results, the entrepreneurship education model is suitable for developing the entrepreneurial spirit of the creative economy and national insight as a deradicalization strategy with multiple economic, social, and cultural benefits. Ex-terrorist convicts are occupied with economic activities, accompanied by increased national awareness. Their public acceptance, on the other hand, will increase.

Abstract:
This research was motivated by the discovery of information about ex-drug convicts at Class IIB Padang prison who returned to drug convicts after repeating the same incident. The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of labels on the behavior of ex-convicts in drug cases. This study uses Howard Becker's stigma theory. The approach used is qualitative according to the type of case study. Research informants were identified through a purposive sampling method with the following criteria: Class IIB Padang prison, former drug convicts, families of ex-drug convicts, and communities where former drug convicts live. Data was collected through observation, interviews and document study. Data validity test includes reliability, transferability, reliability and control tests. Miles and Huberman's interactive analytical model was used for data analysis. The results showed that social stigma influenced the behavior of ex-drug convicts, such as feelings of fear of conforming, drug abuse and uncontrollable emotions.

Abstract:
This research is motivated by the large number of data found on drug convicts with juvenile offenders in the Class IIB Padang state detention center from Koto Tangah District which always changes every period. With these changes, it is evident that many of the juvenile convicts with repeated criminal acts, and have just been sentenced to detention in the Padang Class IIB State Detention Center. However, the freedom of the juvenile ex-convicts of drug cases makes it difficult for them to adapt, and get labels from society. This labeling aims to analyze the label of society towards adolescent ex-convicts of drug cases, and the impact of the label on the behavior of adolescent ex-convicts of drug cases. This study uses the theory of labeling and George Herbert Mead's socialization theory. The approach used is qualitative with the type of case study research. Research informants were determined using a purposive sampling technique with criteria for subsidy services for prisoners at the Padang Class IIB State Detention Center, juvenile ex-convicts in drug cases with the age of 12-21 years, families of juvenile ex-convicts in drug cases, and the community around the residence of juvenile ex-convicts. drugs. Data was collected using observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The data validity test includes credibility, transferability, dependability, and conformability tests. Analysis of the data using the interactive analysis model of Miles and Huberman. The results of the study show that the labeling of society on juvenile ex-convicts of drug cases is divided into two forms; First, the labeling of names (makaw, lelek, sakaw, maele, meang, and paisok). Second, the labeling of people's attitudes (parusuah, sampah masyarakaik, and pakak badak). Community labeling has an impact on the behavior of adolescent ex-convicts of drug cases, such as feelings of fear to adapt, repeat drug use, and uncontrolled emotions.

Abstract:
The deradicalization programs conducted by BNPT and other stakeholders have been running since the enactment of Undang Undang Nomor 5 Tahun 2018 as a starting point for changing the paradigm of handling terrorism in Indonesia. Terrorism convicts are then assessed, rehabilitated, re-educated, and reintegrated. The program also runs outside the prison for ex-terrorism convicts so that they can back to the community. However, some ex-convicts return to commit terrorist crimes, so preventive measures are needed, especially in term of strategic intelligence measures to prevent this. This paper uses a qualitative approach with case study research. Data collected through interviews as primary data and supported by secondary data derived from official government documents and other journal articles. The case study on the application of the intelligence strategy is explained in the handling of ex-convict P in Solo Raya, in which the intelligence strategy implemented is able to monitor the movement of ex-convicts, help integrate into society and be able to help officers communicate with ex-convicts who are still closed

AbstractRasmusen (1996) has shown that inmates not only suffer public penalties but also economic and social stigma. In this article, we analyse the economic consequences of imprisonment which can be identified as lower wages and difficulty in re-entering the labour market. Analysing data from a German survey, we find that having been in prison reduces the probability of finding a job and that the total time sentenced to imprisonment reduces both labour market opportunities and earnings. The penalty is worst for those who have committed murder.

Abstract:
This study aimed to investigate the experiences of ex-convicts after incarceration. The study utilizes a qualitative approach, employing in-depth interviews with five participants who were released from prison for committing a crime. The interviews were conducted in a semi-structured format and focused on the participants’ experiences of re-entry into society, including their employment, housing, relationships, and mental health. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis, identifying common themes across the participants’ experiences. The findings suggest that the re-entry process for ex-convicts is a challenging experience, characterized by a range of barriers and obstacles. Participants reported difficulty in finding stable employment and housing, often facing discrimination and stigma due to their criminal record. They also reported strained relationships with family and friends and struggles with mental health. The study highlights the need for support services to assist ex-convicts in their transition back into society, including employment and housing assistance, mental health services, and community-based support networks. The findings also call for broader social change to address the stigmatization and discrimination faced by ex-convicts, promoting a more inclusive and accepting society. Overall, this research provides valuable insights into the experiences of ex-convicts after incarceration, contributing to a better understanding of the challenges they face and the support they need to successfully reintegrate into society.

Abstract:
This is a qualitative research project about the experiences of forty-six former drug detainees who had been incarcerated because of illicit drug use. I examine their painful experiences of being arrested, imprisoned, and their experiences of post-released lives. I did the formal fieldwork in 2012. I have adopted a qualitative approach for my study. I stayed in Zhiyang for six months and Motai, another Chinese city, for one week in 2012 (both Zhiyang and Motai are not the real name of the cities). In 2013, I went back to Zhiyang again to reconfirm some of the data that I had collected. I had met forty-six former prisoners who were willing to share their stories with me. I have done semi-structured interviews with forty-three of them and participated in their formal and informal social gatherings. Behind their painful experiences, I would demonstrate, is a fundamental contradiction between the unrealistically ideal Party propaganda, which is made according to “exemplary norms”, and the everyday actual practices of the police officers and the prisoner officers. These realities are based on a variety of practical norms guided by different bureaucratic rules and regulations. Throughout the process, I will show, former drug detainees had suffered from physical pain, shame and degradation instead of being “rehabilitated”. The discussion in this thesis is first and foremost about a failed system of rehabilitation, but also mirrors a more general system of hypocrisy as it unfolds in contemporary China.

Wilson, Anna. "Successful prisoner reentry : an analysis of the most important variables." University of Western Australia. Crime Research Centre, 2008. http://theses.library.uwa.edu.au/adt-WU2008.0258.

Abstract:
Prisoner reentry is becomingly increasingly recognised as a significant societal problem. Almost all prisoners will be released will reenter the community and many will reoffend. Internationally, imprisonment rates continue to rise, compounding the challenge to the criminal justice system that the current system of incarceration and reentry creates. Gaps remain in our understanding of the reentry process and the challenges faced by released prisoners. Previous reentry research has tended to focus on specific issues such as accommodation or employment or have used prisoner interviews as the data source. The gaps in reentry literature are compounded by conflicting definitions of 'successful' reentry. Research was undertaken to examine the definition of 'successful reentry' and to determine the most important variables deemed to affect successful prisoner reentry. Semi structured interviews were conducted with twenty-four stakeholders with a variety of roles in prisoner reentry in Western Australia. Additional data was collected from published government reports, policy documents, research reports and academic literature. The interview findings determined that accommodation, employment, social networks and education and treatment programs were deemed to have the most significant impact on prisoner reentry. One of the most significant findings to emerge is the significance of social networks. This study has found evidence that the value of social networks has been neglected in reentry policy. One of the core issues examined throughout this process was the definition of 'successful reentry'. The term 'successful reentry' requires clarification, alongside elucidation of related goals and measurements. Measures of reentry 'success' need to be developed further or ameliorated by additional criterion as successful reentry is a more complex problem than existing recidivism measures can address. This thesis challenges the existing understanding of the needs of prisoners reentering the community and suggests strategies for improving the reentry process and related outcomes. Future reentry policy needs to give greater weight to the value of social networks and establish mechanisms to facilitate the development and maintenance of these networks, which will in turn, assist prisoners to secure accommodation and employment opportunities.

Abstract:
Society in general faces a big problem in not knowing what to do with a person who infringed the standards established by the State because even after having completed his sentence, he has the stigma of an ex-convict. The reconstitution of the subjectivity of such an individual is a challenge that instigated the author to implement a project to make it possible to reinsert ex-prisoners into society. The Project “The Encounter with my true SELF” (“O Encontro com o meu verdadeiro E”), a pilot study initiated by the author, aims at giving back and/or giving new significance to the identity of the participants through graphotherapy, as an integral part of resocialization and integration in the job market of ex-convicts. Since its implementation in 2010, the project had, on average 100 participants per year, of which, approximately 85% were reintegrated into the social coexistence. The present project aims to consolidate and/or explore a new research perspective together with the ex-prisoners released from the prison system, with the focus on reconstructing their identity, re-signifying their beliefs and values, strengthening self-esteem and self-confidence, and looking for, above all, the enhancement of their potential as the individual. That is, through Graphotherapy the participant will have the possibility to return to his identity as a citizen, promoting thus his resocialization and his reintegration into the job market.

Abstract:
This chapter submits that societal mainstreaming of ex-convicts to have a normal life is possible through inmate communication. Inmate communication is a conscientization approach that consists of a holistic strategy to nourish the head, heart, hand, and soul of an inmate, the prison management, and the society. While restorative justice aims to reintegrate inmates once they have served their sentences, life for an ex-convict outside may no longer be the same. A condescending society condemns “convicts as convicts for life” no matter how much they have changed because of the rehabilitation efforts of the government to reform them. The case in point is the National Bilibid Prison, the biggest prison facility that houses more than 22,000 most dangerous inmates in Metro Manila, Philippines who have committed heinous crimes to serve their sentences. Media materials that can nurture the mind such as poems, songs, bookmarks, jingles, letters, etc. for instance that bear words and thoughts of endearment can build a positive attitude and look forward to an accepting society.
