Abstract:
Purpose: Showing the interest of vestibular evoked myogenic potentials in paediatric neurological vestibulospinal pathology detection and followup. Materials and methods: The vestibular evoked myogenic potentials testing apparatus presented is now commonly used in ENT clinics for patients from 1 month of age. Our system and protocol permits control to evoke and select the best EMG level and makes possible a comparison of data from different sides or level of stimulation or different sessions. Normal vestibular evoked myogenic potentials latencies obtained with tone bursts were remarkably stable (P: 13 +/− 0.8 ms, N: 19.6 +/− 1.6 ms). The reported case illustrates abnormal vestibular evoked myogenic potentials latencies in neuropathy. Results: A 6 y.o. child with progressive imbalance was referred to the ENT department for vestibular functional evaluation. Abnormally long latencies in the vestibular evoked myogenic potentials and neurological examination oriented the diagnosis towards Guillain-Barre syndrome and immediate referral to a neurology department. Vestibular evoked myogenic potentials also helped to monitor the neurological recovery. Conclusion: The present case shows the potential value of vestibular evoked myogenic potentials in diagnosis and evaluation of descending brainstem pathways in neuropathies like Guillain-Barre syndrome in complement to neurological evaluation.

Abstract:
Cervical vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials (cVEMPs) are recorded from the sternocleidomastoid muscle using air conduction or bone conduction acoustic stimuli, skull taps, or transmastoid current. The diagnostic usefulness of the cVEMP has been examined for various peripheral and central vestibulopathies. Recent reports indicate that it is possible to record short-latency ocular vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials (oVEMPs) from surface electrodes below the eyes in response to air conduction and bone conduction stimuli. Both methods provide diagnostic information about otolith function. This article provides an overview of each method and highlights the similarities and differences. Several cases are presented to illustrate the relation between the results for cVEMPs and oVEMPs in patients with well-defined audiovestibular disorders.

Abstract:
The article discusses the problem of assessing the state of functional relationships between speech cortical brain areas. The registration of cortical-cortical evoked potentials (CC-EP), problems of registration and interpretation of the results obtained are described. A unique ma-terial in Russia is presented: 27 patients with brain tumors under intraoperative mapping of the cortical speech areas using the CC-EP. The results obtained and options for their interpre-tation are discussed, as well as the prospects for further development of the method. The au-thors present their personal conclusions about the significance of the method and the accuracy of its results, as well as the relationship between the CC-EP parameters and the postoperative clinical state of speech functions in patients after removal of brain tumors.
