Full textThe problematic of this research is born from questions about academic teacher's least interest for experimental didactics into sport graduate discipline (the french name is : sciences et techniques des activites physiques et sportives : s. T. A. P. S. ), which has historically to form physical education teachers. The first point of the research studies the meanings of de the word "didactics", it's development as doman of study in sport graduate discipline, and the objections which are made to it. The second point is composed by an analysis of interviews to compare situations of fundamentals didactics as domains of study in differents graduates disciplines. The third point deliveries the results of a questionary about didactics addressed all the teachers of sport graduate discipline

Full textThe main subject areas dealt with are 1) EST for engineering students in France’s "grandes ecoles"; 2) the pedagogical concepts: linguistic theories and learning theories; the methodological applications of general-purpose English (GPE) teaching to EST; 3) needs analysis : proficiency and acceptability standards of a language of communication used professionally; redefinition of the notion of l. Proficiency and of l. Models; transitional knowledge and know-how between GPE and EST; 4) teaching applications: teaching according to a programme; selecting or devising teaching materials, etc. 5) assessing the learner and the results of the course. The main conclusions reached are a)the necessity to associate communicative language teaching and est; b) the definition of EST as a l. For specific applications and not a special l. ; c)est methodology as a selection and adaptation of methodological procedures belonging to the teaching of GPE; D) the EST teacher is not alone in defining what the good user of EST should be - scientists and technicians also have their own acceptability standards. E) the necessity to teach communication strategies which, for EST, are most often strategies of avoidance (resorting to non-verbal devices, using mixed verbal visual, symbolic explicit discourse) which characterize scientific and technological communication regardless of the language used (French, English, Spanish, etc. )

Full textThe thesis describes a teaching sequence (15 hours) given to students in applied arts and reports results obtained in the evaluation of this sequence. This course is designed from a constructivist perspective and based on a conceptual analysis of the domain. The content is chosen to integrate scientific, technical and perceptual aspects of colour. The aim is to increase the availability of conceptual tools about colour in the analysis of technical applications in art. An inquiry about students' previous ideas has been done. The results have been taken into account in the design of the teaching process including the experimental activities. During the sequence, qualitative data are used to assess the acceptability of the teaching strategy and the conceptual mastery of the students. In a final evaluation, a set of questions are put to different groups. The analysis of the students' responses is informed by results obtained in the qualitative evaluation. A tool for a quantitative evaluation is designed : couples associating a given question with a selected aspect of response and corresponding rates of occurence in a group. It leads to a "conceptual. .

As a result of the absence of strict norms applicable to the formation of neologisms, which are the graphic trends of this creativity linguistically uncontrolled in french ? the method is based on a corpus of exclusion of two hundred and fifty-nine specialized dictionaries and on the expert evaluation of forty-six specialists. The perused corpus includes la recherche and science et technologie magazines from 1984 to 1991. This study presents three parts : -part of the graphic signs other than letters. Full textThe terminology related to the space science and technology (SST), corpus-based approach, is studied within the framework of the ontological structure pattern. The morpho-syntactical formation of the terminological unit, its characteristics as well as the schemata of arguments (predicative expressions and arguments) are both analyzed within the context and beyond the context. It’s characterized by a level of relative fixed structure: one of the properties of the “long” terminological unit that can often be decomposed. It can have a discursive behavior in particular, discourse anaphora, and the reduction by deletion of one of its components. In the latter case, this refers to certain aspects of the terminologization such as non-differential element falling and a characteristic or nominal element maintaining. Therefore, some aspects are constant factors which allow to highlight the diachronic evolution of the terminological unit. The outcome of the ontological structure is analyzed with the aim of describing not only the concepts of the SST, but also the use of the schemata of arguments i.e. verbal and nominal in the corpus by establishing itself on the semantic-syntactical labels. An analysis of the specialized verb was developed to supply useful information for the constitution of the multilingual terminological database or to give techno-scientific definitions. The study also allowed to describe absent verbs in the specialized dictionaries, to show how a verb can acquire a new specialized meaning, to identify the typical agent of the specialized verbs. There are two classifications of the specialized verb according to their uses and their morpho-syntactical structure were proposed as; simple verbal unit (SVU) and complex verbal unit (CVU). A syntagm involves one of the two analyzes: compositional unit or non-compositional unit. According to the situational context, the definition of the verb in LSP allowed finally to identify three meanings of the verb: very specialized verb, polysemous verb, and support verb

Full textPlain considerations for the "nature of science" (NOS) tend to support more and more explicitly the effort to renew science teaching. However, the teacher’s most widely adopted definition of NOS lays itself open to criticism. This thesis focuses on life science researchers’ conceptions of the "nature of science" (NOS) and seeks to enrich and update a common conception of NOS in science education. To do this, we adopt an epistemological perspective largely inspired by Gérard Fourez’s writings - and that we called "social constructivist". This perspective brings us to sketch out what we understand to be some of the main aspects of the researchers’ understanding of NOS. In terms of method, one of our main concerns is to “give a say” to the subjects, both at the stage of data collection and analysis, in order to qualify the way we account for their understanding of NOS. Our "case study" approach relies on semi-structured interviews. A first thematic analysis allows us to "sketch out" original, rich and nuanced conceptions of NOS. At a second level of analysis, we identify five epistemological elements that, according to us, would contribute to enrich and update the common conception of NOS in science education. These are all related to the scientific method: 1) the importance of projects that guide the process of interpreting the data, 2) the consideration of different "contexts" in which is developed scientific knowledge, 3) the role of speculation and 4) publication in relation to the scientific method and, finally, 5) the moral commitment that underlies scientific practices.

Full textTo analyze the role of sciences in technical innovations, one must bring together two disciplines, economics of technical science, and sociology of science : the first serves to adequately frame the questions that the analysis implies, the second provides the pertinent methods. In our work, using six case-studies in biotechnology, we show how the structure of the innovative projects under examination is determined by the scientific controversies surrounding the objects in the process of conception or manufacture. Such controversies are never restricted to scientific content : they involve all at once the scientific theories concerning the scientific and technical objects, the principles underlying the organization of research and development activities, and the distribution channels for the marketing of these new products. The scientific theories are developed concurrently with the new products that they describe, and with the markets for these new products and new processes. This development of scientific theories is based on the assignment of responsabilities to things (cells which "prevent" others cells from functioning,. . . ), as well as to men (accusations of incompetence, mistakes in work organizations, etc). These assignments of responsibility are progressevely transformed into scientific theories, personnel policies, organizational changes, new market creations, etc. All these effects of scientific research are essential from an economic standpoint because they define degrees of scarcity as well as the configurations of the socio-technical networks which enable the circulation of the new products or processes. In this way, we see that scientific research can no longer be excluded from economic studies of technical innovations: on the contrary such research is at the center of such processes of innovation

Full textThis thesis focuses on students’ expérience of learning an English language discipline at university. The aim is to account for the impact of the EMI environment on the individual social expérience lived by students in situations where they are learning bodily technics. The thesis is part of an activity-based approach in éducation and training sciences using the theoretical and methodological framework of the course of action (Theureau, 2015). The results of the first, exploratory study show that the linguistic disruption introduced by the EMI leads students to adapt their mode of engagement and their focus in situations and to develop an investigative activity based in particular on the indexical and iconic dimensions linked to the actions of peers. The second study, with an ethnographie dimension, emphasises that the EMI environment, which créâtes uncertainty for the students, has the following effects on the functioning and organisation of the group. This gives rise to the emergence of stories for the students, and in particular cooperative interactions. This culture of shared action proved conducive to the development of individual, academie and social constructs. Finally, the last study carried out on an EMI sports practical sequence shows the existence of a learning community which supports students' individual and social development during work situations. The EMI environment makes it possible to construct differentiated knowledge about oneself, one's peers, the teacher and the subject content, in relation to the students’ language level. This research opens up praxeological avenues to support reflective action by proposing the design of new training environments to enhance the learning of students involved in EMI courses

Full textThis research deals with collaborative relationship between researchers and engineersinvolved in R&D collaborative projects, supported by competitiveness cluster – as AerospaceValley – and partly financed by public funds. Instead of studying institutional arrangementsbetween universities and enterprises as most of English and American researches do, thiswork focuses on the collaborative experience and the effective and narrow relations betweenresearchers and engineers. Using a qualitative methodology based on observations andinterviews, this research underlines two different ways to collaborate: one giving priority tosegmented activities and actors’ autonomy; the other giving priority to interdependencybeteween parteners and the intricacy of the different R&D activities. For instance, interdependency and intricacy occure through a form of boundary work. This “interstitialwork” made through a convergence and formation process, helps parteners to create acommunity of actors, practices and representations in order to understand each other, interact, communicate and work together beyond their disparity and heterogeneity. Therefore, helpedby some mediating figures – like the “agent of collaboration” – to preserve the dialoguebetween actors, R&D projects and collaboration contribute to the social and economicaldynamic by encouraging synergies between laboratories, small enterprises and firms

Full textCan the scientific and technical information auxiliary of the historical science builds up, in itself, an historical study ? as an informational product and exclusive activity of a specialized professional corpus, scientific and technical information (ist) - such as books, newspapers or any mode of representation - is an established cultural fact. By this right, it can be the object of a cultural historical study. Studies in the humanities and latin-american society which are considered through ist, constitute the instrumental framework of this demonstration. The institutions in question are displayed in the introductory chapter consecrated to the french apparatus' evolutions and stakes in research and higher education between 1945 and 1990. Four parts which intersect the diachronic and thematic dimensions, are then set to work. The first, french documentary sources specialized in latin america allows one to recognize the characteristic features of documentary material. The second, latin americanism in france : genesis and evolution of the specialized research focuses on ist's producers and users. The intersecting study of different representative data banks is the third part's main object : data banks and the humanities and social sciences : the national center of scientific research and the singular role of the data bank "latin america". The broadening of the cooperative space, set up for the scientific community in the last decade of the century, is examined in the fourth and last part : scientific and technical information confronted with the technological transformations of the 1990's it is clear that in the light of this work, retracing the history of a scientific field makes us understand its transmission modalities. The analysis of ist helps to have a more precise vision of its producers and users

Full textBiomedical research is a morally and ethicaly controversial field of scientific research as it makes use of the human body but also of personnal data. Therefore, placing the Human at the heart of its methods and purposes, biomedical research brings conflicting interests together (patient’s rights, researcher’s one but also companies and States’ interests). In France and in the United Kingdom, the regulation of this field combines divers normative instruments all depending on specific and plural legitimacy claims. Those claims are matched to expectations with regard to the various interests at stake but also to the State’s nature and function. This study aims at exploring and shedhing light on the divers legitimacy claims by offering a double comparison : a comparison between legal orders and between law sources. Using the concept of legitimacy, understood as the justification of a norm’s authority without any reference to a sanction, this study presents a renewed cartography of law dynamics in the field of biomedical research

Full textThe PhD presents and argues that the industrial technology is becoming an academicsubject. In high schools, the contemporary changes bring to light the final phase. The didactic and historical analysis, mainly led by the study of official regulations and speeches, tracks down the evolutions and the changes, by means of a model of examination of the school disciplines focusing on the missions, the organization (administrative and educational) and the education (the programs and the methods).Three main periods are identified: 1) the configuration of the technical education (1945-1958), its development and its structure; 2) the blending of the technology in high schools (1959-1984) by the unification of the education system; 3) the technology as an academic subject (1985-2012) from the primary school to the university, newly named the engineering sciences. This process comes within socio-political, economic and institutional context and is mainly defined by its missions of increasing qualifications. The examination of the functional analysis tools, employed to study the technical systems, reveals the elaboration of teachable contents. The contents changes, from the machines organ to the multitechnological systems, have been built one after the other, according to eight paradigms. On the one hand, the PhD reveals the process of "disciplinarization" of the technology and opens the discussion on the available researches about others disciplines. On the other hand, the PhD provides an original history of the technical education, the necessary sources for new researches and for understanding and supporting the contemporary changes

Full textThe teaching and learning of scientific and technical subject matters and vocational training in French constitute one of the sore issues for the development of scientific and technical options in schools in French-speaking subsaharan Africa, where the educational context is multilingual (national languages). Various assessments have shown that the schoolchildren from these areas do not obtain good grades in science and technology. The major difficulty for these schoolchildren lies in the acquistion of technical and scientific notions and concepts. Since Independence in 1960, the French-speaking subsaharan African states have started to modify their educational systems according to the specific sociolinguistic environment characteristic of each country. The choice is between a monolingual system (one sole language, French) or a bilingual system (French-national language). Pedagogical approaches which develop, inter alia the linguistic skills required for the acquisition of scientific and technical subject matters and which facilitate the elaboration of knowledge and know-how in the fields of science and technology have been tested but with little success. Through various case studies, this thesis investigates the causes of this situation. It suggests some guidelines to revive the technical and scientific options whose failure may threaten the building of technical and scientific elites needed for development

Full textThe aim of this thesis is the performance evaluation of the the load-balancing mechanisms. The development of load balancing techniques is necessary in order to obtain an effective use of a parallel architecture. We study the problem of the dynamic scheduling of a parallel application. We start with the analysis of the functionalities of a generic scheduler and its implementation in the Athapascan system. Athapascan is a multithreaded system for parallel applications. The structure of the schedule gives the possibility of different algorithms of load balancing. We propose a methodology for a quantitative evaluation of the different algorithms of load balancing. We built a benchmark of synthetic algorithms with dynamic and random features. We study the combined effects of all the parameters of the schedule and of the synthetic load. A factorial design has been choosen because it permits a global view of the influence of the different parameters. Our benchmark has been carried out on a SP1-IBM computer. We used two different methods to analyze our results: the principal components analyses (ACP) and the multilinear regression. The linear models obtained from the analysis give us the possibility of understanding the behavior of every schedule and the influence of its parameters with respect to the synthetic load

Full textThis University thesis looks into the work done by teachers in Agri-Sciences and Techniques: how a "sound agricultural practice" is transmitted in a vocational teaching situation. Its aim is to grasp the organisation of the teaching activity in a particularly discretionary context and in various fluctuating situations. The conceptual framework used for this research is at the intersection of Professional Teaching Practice and an extended instrumental approach. The analytical work is based on tangible teaching practices as they were expressed, and takes into account the symbolic dimension of the device used by the teacher. As it bears on one technical element, the observation of the teachers’ activity makes it possible to highlight the various ways they make use of the chosen devices. The results analysis is based on the concept of invariance (both of the subject and the situation), as it was expected from the teacher’s range of devices and also dialectic relation between the concepts of "empowerment" and "self-accomplishment". The variations can be explained by the active process of the person’s identity construction, proceeding from the feeling of personal sense, a feeling each time unique and incessantly renewed: the teacher’s knowledge and cognition, as it is mustered through the devices used, appear to be closely linked to a form of "re-cognition", leading to varied teaching styles. From a more general point of view, the results verify the model of a "teaching person", as it was propositioned in the theoretical framework; it gives the global teaching act a broader meaning that reaches beyond language

Full textThe research deals with experimental programs in education, scientific cooperation and development, between 1971 and 1981, using us, canadian and french-german second generation satellites : ats-1, ats-3 and ats-6, stt, anik-b and symphonie. Its aim consists in analysing these programs (through a selection of 102 out of them) as significant steps of the industrilization that is growing in the fields of media for teaching, scientific cooperation and development. This analysis lays the stress particularly on the process of a deep transformation of the co-operating ways between the different responsible and participating agencies and people involved in these programs, thus generating procedures opposed to artisanal and discontinuous achievements, lying on mid- and long-range planifications that need organic articulation of specified and standardized tasks and give a priority to return on investment and rentability. The economical and socio-political determinations as well as the major ideological trends influencing the starting of these programs are precisely analysed and related to the conditions and diffi- culties of their birth and growing. Their results and consequences on the projects for proposing operational and institutionnalized services are examined, which leads to consider the future developments of these media, using satellite or not, i.
