Abstract:
IntroductionPatient education serves an essential purpose in the long-term management of allergic diseases as a secondary prevention approach. However, evidence on using education for primary prevention is limited. This study aims to evaluate the effect of an educational intervention, that is, the Preventive Antenatal Educational Program on Allergic Diseases (PAEPAD), on infantile allergic disease incidences compared with the standard care. Methods and analysisThis is a single-centre randomised controlled trial of expecting mother–children dyads in Daxing Teaching Hospital of Beijing, China. A total of 2266 expecting mothers will be recruited. Expecting mothers enlisted in the birth registry of Daxing Teaching Hospital of Capital Medical University and intend to give birth at this location will be screened for eligibility. Women aged≥18 years with less than 14+6 weeks of pregnancy who intends to remain resident in Daxing district for at least 2 years postpartum will be entered into the run-in phase. Randomisation will take place at 30 weeks of gestation. Women at high risk for miscarriage or intend to have abortions will be excluded. The participants will be allocated into two groups (ie, the PAEPAD and the standard care group) by random allocation (1:1). The PAEPAD group will receive a multidisciplinary education of neonatal care, including standard education as the control group and additional information on skincare of infants, sun protection, topical corticosteroids and an overview of atopic dermatitis (AD), whereas the standard care group will receive the standard neonatal care education carried out by obstetricians. Participants will be followed for 2 years. The primary outcome will be infantile AD cumulative incidence at 2 years postpartum. Secondary outcomes will include other AD outcomes, atopic march outcomes, knowledge outcomes and other maternal and neonatal outcomes. Data collection will be carried out using both electronic and paper questionnaires. Biological samples will also be collected longitudinally.Ethics and disseminationThe study design was approved by the ethical committee of Capital Medical University Daxing Teaching Hospital, Beijing, China. The trial results will be published in peer-reviewed journals and at conferences.Trial registration numberChiCTR registry (Trial ID: ChiCTR2000040463).

Abstract In view of a series of challenges since Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) was introduced into China, we interviewed 14 front-line teachers in primary and secondary schools about their viewpoints and classroom strategies of TBLT. The results show teachers’ willingness to use TBLT. They adopt flexible teaching procedures, apply TBLT creatively, and explore task-based language assessment. The authors argue for inclusive non-doctrinaire approaches to TBLT, and propose to construct localized TBLT theory and practice with Chinese characteristics.

Abstract:
Purpose: The goal of this study was to determine whether the amount of experience and training of the instructors had an impact on their decision on the teaching strategies for S.E.E. Methodology: The plan includes the sampling techniques, data gathering, and analytic processes. Two tools—the Teachers' Questionnaire and the Observation Schedule—were used to gather the data for this study. Findings: The study's main conclusions demonstrated that the available teaching-learning resources were insufficient, which had a negative impact on the efficient instruction of S.E.E. in secondary schools. It was also discovered that teachers lacked the necessary and competent teaching tools to instill values in their charges. Conclusion: Since most teachers are not qualified to teach the subject and have not taken any in-service training, they are not familiar with the methods of teaching S.E.E. Recommendation: The study suggests that instructors should get training in effective ways to teach morally upright subjects including government, history, and survival skills. For effective social science education, teachers should make use of a number of materials. In order to completely accomplish the fourth purpose of education, which stipulates that "education should foster solid moral and religious values," S.E.E. as a topic has to be brought back into the curriculum.

Abstract:
Science teachers play a key role in successfully implementing science education reforms and providing all students with meaningful science learning opportunities. Therefore, what core teaching competencies do science teachers need to have in their practice? This study uses fuzzy Delphi technique and Analytic Hierarchy Process to approach the above problems. Experts from Chinese universities, secondary schools and educational research institutions were invited to participate in two rounds of Delphi process. The research results show that the four domains of core teaching competencies of science teachers and their 21 competencies have high content validity. Additionally, it can be concluded that the weights of core competencies of making learning objectives, raising pedagogical questions, stimulating learning motivation and analyzing course content ranked high, while the weights of core competencies of using information technology and multimedia, evaluating practical work, and presenting research results have received less attention. It is believed that the results of this study can enlighten the education reform of science teachers and promote the professional development of pre-service/in-service science teachers. A voluminous body of research has examined the implementation of task-based language teaching (TBLT). However, research investigating the implementation of TBLT in Southwest China remains limited. This article reports on a study of teachers’ knowledge of TBLT, difficulties in deploying TBLT and their perceived feasible solutions. Thirteen teachers from a private junior secondary school in Sichuan, China participated in the semi-structured interviews. The findings reveal that teachers’ understanding of TBLT was limited and varied. The implementation gap was attributed to various contextual constraints such as exams, teachers’ beliefs, and pressures and challenges from the school. Participants of this study disseminated both similar and differentiated views towards problems and solutions. The study concludes by highlighting the need for an overhaul of the assessment and a reinforcement of teacher support and development.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to investigate Chinese primary and secondary school music teachers' perceptions towards “authenticity”-related issues in world music teaching. Using a qualitative methodology, the researchers conducted in-depth semi-structured interviews with nine primary and secondary school music teachers in different provinces of China. The results show that the teachers have different views on whether “authenticity” is often emphasized in the teaching of world music, whether world music in textbooks is represented authentically, whether absolute “authenticity” could be achieved in the teaching of world music, and the role of culture bearers in the transmission of music culture in the classroom. On the whole, to ensure that music teachers can objectively treat authenticity in world music teaching, the teachers should be clear about the purpose of world music teaching and transcend the dilemma of the authentic/inauthentic dichotomy.

Abstract:
Assessment literacy (AL) has emerged as an important research field during the past decade, yet it remains a great challenge for secondary school EFL teachers in China to appropriately enact their assessment literacy. Due attention needs to be paid to research upon teachers’ conceptions of assessment (CoA) and assessment practice. Based upon a semester’s observation of the English classes in a secondary school in China, weekly meetings on English teaching and research, a focus group interview, individual interviews, documents such as the participants’ lesson plans and reflective journals, this qualitative study aims at exploring: (1) what are the conceptions of assessment of the participating secondary EFL teachers? (2) what is the teachers’ assessment literacy in practice (TALiP)? (3) How could their assessment literacy be enhanced?  Self-reported findings show that the EFL teachers have a wide scope of conceptions of assessment and individual variations in their assessment practices. The former range from knowledge of assessment purposes and criteria to regarding assessment as learning (AaL), and the latter from giving instant feedback of nodding or simple comments to practicing assessment for learning (AfL) in classroom teaching. Findings from observation also reveal that when tempting AaL, the participants could generally achieve AfL to some extent. Implications for further teacher professional development are discussed concerning how to enhance assessment literacy mentoring in internship and in-service training.

This study describes the implementation of teaching reform in secondary mathematics classrooms in a rural poverty school in southwest China where a school-wide teaching experiment took place. Classroom teaching and learning practices are primarily concerned with classroom organizations, interactions and social norms. The results indicate that a collective learning approach was taken in the classroom reform, in which mathematical communications, understanding and engagement of students in learning were promoted. However, there was a lack of diversity of thinking and arguments on solving problems among different level students, which implies the mathematical teaching still focuses on acquiring knowledge over generating knowledge.

Abstract:
In the context of a multi-ethnic and multicultural country such as Malaysia, national integration is the fundamental pillar of the country’s harmony and stability. Accordingly, this study aimed to investigate the extent to which the Malay Literature education enhances the integration among the students. On the basis of Weiner’s theory, the study employed the questionnaire survey method. The respondents consisted of 310 secondary school form two students in Kuala Lumpur. The findings show that the Malay Literature textbooks do not reflect the multi-ethnic society in Malaysia. Furthermore, the teachers were struggling to stimulate the interests among the students, and the interest of the latter to learn Malay literature was low. Inferential analysis indicated significant differences in unity literature education based on the ethnicities [F (2.307) = 34.573; p < 0.05] and SES [F (3.306) = 5.109; p < 0.05]. In conclusion, Malay literature education plays its unique role to instil the sentiment of unity among the students in the school setting. Therefore, teachers should come up with interesting teaching methods to cultivate students’ interest in learning the unity-themed literature and grant them a better understanding of other ethics in the effort to boost national integration. Abstract:
The Chinese government has proposed the rural vitalization strategy in its poverty reduction, aiming at narrowing the discrepancies in economic levels between urban and rural areas. Under this development blueprint, poverty alleviation through education, one of the imperative approaches mentioned in this overarching strategy, has attracted attention from all sectors of Chinese society. In Southwest China, however, the urban-rural gap in compulsory education is still concerning, especially in English teaching and learning. This has lowered the overall quality of English education in these areas, whereas only a few studies have looked into this issue. Therefore, under the guidance of the rural vitalization strategy, the present study intends to offer a response by calling for more attention on the problems in rural English teaching in various aspects. Furthermore, this study explores the corresponding strategies adopted to solve these problems and discusses their effectiveness of English teaching. It is hoped that the study can develop a theoretical framework about the current issues of English teaching in rural areas under the rural vitalization and can provide practical suggestions for policymakers and educational practitioners.

Abstract:
Abstract Religious Culture and Ethics (RCE), a compulsory course in Turkish primary and secondary schools, is a highly debated issue with respect to education on religion. Discussions focus on whether the class is “religious education” with a confessional approach or “religious culture and ethics teaching” that adopts a non-confessional view. Following a short history of religious education courses in Turkish primary and secondary education, this study analyses the curriculum and the content of the RCE course from the perspective of two Islamic sects (madhhab) and religious education approaches to discuss the principal educational approach applied in the country. The study also analyses the argument that holds that RCE is a non-confessional lesson in terms of both content and application; and that, accordingly, there is no problem with its presence among compulsory courses in primary education. It is rather concluded that, since its inclusion within the primary and secondary education curricula as a compulsory lesson, RCE has never been non-confessional in terms of including other religions and beliefs as well as other sects within Islam. An examination of the sectarian sources of information on worship provided in these courses reveals that the current textbooks are explicitly grounded in the Hanafi School with regard to issues of Muslim obligations.

Abstract:
This study centers around virtual teaching assistants (“VTA”) and the potential application of VTAs to reduce the burden on teachers across secondary schools in China exacerbated by the Double Reduction Policy. It seeks to understand how VTAs could be implemented in the classroom while ensuring student and teacher well-being, success, and happiness. Through interviews with fourteen different experts spanning industry, academia, and education, combined with extensive review of the existing literature and ecosystem of VTAs, research shows that VTAs are potentially a major aid in the context of exam review, after school tutoring, automated grading, and student performance reporting. However, they need to be created carefully with an attentive eye towards student support to ensure that the learning experience is not diminished. It must be clearly communicated to all stakeholders that the goal of a VTA is not to replace teachers, but rather to support them such that they can spend more time with students and less time on mundane tasks.

Abstract:
Significant effort has been made to support pre-service and novice teacher learning abroad; however, not enough attention has been paid to promoting pre-service and novice teacher learning via collaboration with peer teachers and more expert educators at secondary education level in the context of mainland China. In order to facilitate this type of teacher collaboration and provide necessary support for pre-service and novice English language teachers in high schools in the southern part of China, a micro-teaching program has been incorporated into the pre-service training for these novice teachers. The micro-teaching program aims at equipping novice teachers with relevant teaching skills and behaviors through practice of teaching under controlled conditions. The purpose of this paper is to trace the developmental trajectories of the novice teachers participating in this program and examine the effect of formal assessment on the development of novice teachers. This study reveals that the program can help teachers share teaching strategies and solve practical problems in teaching, thus novice teachers acquire teaching skills and gain confidence in teaching. It is recommended the faculty should incorporate the program not only in pre-training service for novice teachers but also in service for teachers to improve their teaching routine.

This article discusses the thoughts of the figure Muhammad Naquib al Attas who discusses the concept of thought in Islamic education and is related to its relation to Islamic business ethics. Naquib al Attas's concept related to his thoughts on Islamic education are Islamic education whose terminology is taken from the Arabic words (al-Qur'an) and al-sunnah, for example there are words tarbiyah, ta'lim, and ta'dib and some are even called riyadlah. However, according to al Attas in his study of classical books it turns out that no one uses the term tarbiyah in the meaning of education. Likewise ta'lim which is interpreted by al-Attas as teaching. So, the word ta'lim is narrower than education. On this basis, the relationship between business ethics and Islamic education has a fairly close relationship because education determines what a person's personality is like both in terms of morals and ethics. The methodology used here uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach, and is carried out by gathering supporting literature sources, both primary and secondary sources related to the discourse on the concept of Islamic education Naquib Al Attas and business ethics education.

Abstract:
Finding the features of schools that lead to improved student accomplishment is one of the challenges that educational researchers, legislators, and school reformers face. The task at hand is unambiguous but challenging. Optimism and self-efficacy are a self-regulatory mechanism that influences students' academic behavior in academic settings because it affects how they perceive their own competence for a specific task and their capacity to adjust to and manage future academic demands. Higher self-efficacy students view homework as a task to be met with self-assurance and to put their skills into efficient and responsible practice. In an effort to address these concerns, this paper investigates the connections between students' academic optimism and their performance. Previous studies on academic optimism have been limited by their narrow focus on its defining traits; this approach may help remedy this. The research aims to shed light on the nature of academic optimism and the ways in which it manifests itself to improve teaching and learning and, by extension, to expand human understanding. The researcher selects the Theory of Planned Behavior in order to strengthen and support the entire body of study. The purpose of this article development and suggested framework on academic optimism and its relationship with student achievement in China's schools. The proposed study design is critical for subsequent analysis to confirm that both exogenous factors and endogenous factor were strongly related to the contingency of institutional efficiency can affect student progress.

Abstract:
Educational policy generating 21st-century skills is accelerating, but Chinese education still employs traditional teaching such as memorizing and test-based instructional practices. The pencil and paper tests, no matter how sophisticated, are hard-pressed to measure interpersonal, intrapersonal skills, and the penetration of educational core values into secondary schools internationally, which is weak. This article aims to navigate the secondary school challenges and proposed reforms through analyzing the over 20 years of the author's experience. Findings show that high stakes cause teachers, school principals, parents, and students to disincentivize deeper learning. The exam-oriented teaching and learning approach causes students who might obtain a high score but lower functional performance. Parents' high hopes cause educational inequality and restrict students to develop their skills. Worse, the school principal utilized the power and authority in leading school development and evaluated teachers' performance based on students' test scores that force teachers to demand students to complete the mock practices and test. Because of test-based accountability, the study suggested that secondary school in China necessitates to abolish the "Gaokao" system instead of using a whole-personal assessment. The school leadership needs to shift from bureaucratic management to transformational, Junzi, and adaptive leadership. School principals advocate parents' commitment and deliver a quality of education to secondary school students. Therefore, future research explores how the "Gaokao" system causes inequality and impacts 21st-century skills for secondary school students' academic, emotional, and behavioral development through a comparative mixed research design.

Abstract:
According to a questionnaire and interview survey of 689 students, teachers, and parents from six primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong, China, both public and government-funded schools use traditional Chinese teaching materials and Cantonese as the medium of instruction, while private schools use original English textbooks and English as the medium of instruction. All schools' self-selected teaching materials and teachers have a major colonial education legacy, in that they do not objectively introduce the growth process of Chinese culture and socialism, affecting students' ability to acquire a correct world outlook and ideal. In everyday life, students primarily speak Cantonese, and their Putonghua proficiency is poor. In Hong Kong, the competition for college entrance exams and jobs is fierce, and nearly half of students see no hope and expect to migrate to the mainland for university and employment in order to advance. This study proposed specific reform strategies and implementation methods for language teaching in Hong Kong primary and secondary schools to increase patriotism, university enrolment, and employment rates among Hong Kong students.

Abstract:
While Chinese has been taught as a school subject outside of China for decades, there is little research on how Chinese subjects are taught in secondary schools outside of China’s mainland with regard to the use of active learning and the impact of professional development events on teachers’ professional growth in classroom Chinese teaching. This article explored Thai Chinese teachers’ use of active learning methods at public and private secondary schools in the south of Thailand. It also examined the impact of a government-administered Chinese teaching seminar on their professional development. A sequential mixed-methods explanatory design was employed, involving focus group interviews and pre- and post-tests. The phenomenological approach with thematic analysis was used to analyze the qualitative data from the focus group interviews, while the Wilcoxon test was run to compare the pre- and post-test data. Findings revealed the application of active learning with discussion and role-playing activities involving audio-visual materials. The pedagogy of Thai Chinese secondary schools has shifted from knowledge transmission through lectures to knowledge generation and transformation via dynamic learning activities. After attending the seminar, teachers’ comprehension of active learning methods increased considerably (Z = 3.740, p < 0.001). However, teachers expressed concerns over the lack of innovative teaching techniques for teaching Chinese characters and the problems encountered by both students and teachers during the teaching and learning process. This study recommends that Hanban and the Thai Ministry of Education plan their seminars and workshops in a way that allows Thai Chinese instructors to continuously address their students’ and their own deficiencies while they are engaged in active learning activities, and it calls for additional research on the use of active CFL methods in secondary schools outside of China.

Abstract:
Today, in Ukraine, the issue of religious education remains not less but rather even more debatable and relevant than in the period of 2005, when the order No. 437 "On the study of optional courses on ethics of religion and religious studies in schools" and further regulatory documents were issued, aimed at creating conditions for the all-Ukrainian introduction of subjects of spiritual and moral orientation in general educational institutions. According to the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sport of Ukraine, in the 2011/2012 school year, about 40% of schools (approximately 15% of all schoolchildren) are covered by the teaching process of the relevant subjects. However, a few important issues remain, the solution of which is urgent in order to further improve the situation in educational and educational progress of state initiatives.

Abstract:
IntroductionHyperkalaemia (HK) is a potentially life-threatening electrolyte imbalance associated with several adverse clinical outcomes and is common in patients with kidney failure. However, there is no evidence on the occurrence, recurrence and treatment of HK in patients on haemodialysis (HD) in China. Methods and analysisThe HK Prevalence, Recurrence, and Treatment in Haemodialysis Study is a prospective, multicentre, observational, cohort study being conducted across 15–18 sites in China. Approximately 600 patients with end-stage kidney disease on HD are anticipated to be enrolled and will be followed up for 24 weeks. Patients will be in the long interdialytic interval (LIDI) at enrolment and will receive follow-up care every 4 weeks in LIDI for pre-dialysis and post-dialysis (at enrolment only) serum potassium measurements. To obtain pre-dialysis serum potassium levels in the short interdialytic interval (SIDI), a follow-up visit will be performed in the SIDI during the first week. Information on concomitant medications, blood gas analysis and biochemistry measurements will be obtained at enrolment and at each follow-up visit. The primary endpoint will be the proportion of patients experiencing HK (defined as serum potassium level >5.0 mmol/L) at the study enrolment or during the 24-week follow-up. The key secondary endpoint will be the proportion of patients experiencing HK recurrence (defined as any HK event after the first HK event) within 1–6 months (if applicable) during the 24-week follow-up, including enrolment assessment.Ethics and disseminationThis study has been approved by Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, Renji Hospital Ethics Committee (2020-040). Other participating subcentres must also obtain ethics committee approval prior to the start of the study. The Good Clinical Practice regulations shall be strictly followed during the test implementation. Amendments to the protocol will be reviewed by the ethics committees. Abstract:
Competence of Teaching or Scientific Projects, which include teacher competencies, knowledge, self-image, motivation, and personality traits, distinguishes high-performing teachers from average teachers in school education. The Competence of Teaching or Scientific Projects model is the sum of the competency characteristics required for the specific role of a teacher, and it is a set of characteristics developed in response to the professional performance and task requirements of the teacher. This paper adopts a systematic literature review method to analyze the research results on teachers' research competency in China since the 21st century. Horizontally, the number of literature types first increases and then stabilizes, the publishing journals are concentrated, and the research topics are diverse; vertically, the definition of teacher research competency includes hybrid, behavioral, and trait theory; the cultivation goals of teacher research competency range from breakpoint separation to articulation and integration, the cultivation process ranges from theory acquisition to participation in creation, and the cultivation methods range from primary and secondary schools based to demand-based. The construction of a teacher research competency model helps in teacher recruitment, research competency development, and assessment; the construction methods include qualitative, quantitative, and mixed research; specific strategies involve sample selection, competency indicator determination, and subjective influence control. This study selected high-performing primary and secondary school outstanding teachers as a valid sample, used the event interview method, adopted the classical BEI competency modeling method, analyzed key behavioral events that occurred in teachers’ past teaching work, examined performance behaviors, explored identifying and conceptualizing Competence of Teaching or Scientific Projects characteristics, determined outstanding Competence of Teaching or Scientific Projects criteria through retrospective interview evaluations of graduates, explored key elements of teachers’ long-term impact on students, compared outstanding teachers with ordinary teachers, and constructed a model of primary and secondary school Competence of Teaching or Scientific Projects to provide an effective basis for teacher selection, training, and assessment. Future research needs to increase research perspectives, broaden research themes, and innovate research methods.
